ThayyalPadhivu-Epporul
Thanks to IzhMagal for starting this and tagging me.
Thirukkural is a classic Tamil Sangam treatise on the art of living. Much respect to Thiruvalluvar 🙏 for giving this Ulaga Pothumarai for the human kind.
This is a pure attempt to relive the good learning times from school/college and a random log of thoughts around the kural.
This being a linked log, I would like to start with the reference kural log of IzhMagal
பொருட்பால்- கேள்வி - 411
'செல்வத்துள் செல்வம் செவிச்செல்வம் அச்செல்வம் செல்வத்துள் எல்லாம் தலை'
Please visit IzhMagalz pathivu to read her take.
I am referring this to draw parallel and take a lighter dig at a real world scenario. Take this light hearted. With due credits to the author and others.
There are different ways of learning, but one of the most effective one is by experiencing.
The one that all of us can connect to instinctly, is the college time exam scenario😜
Most of us might have managed to learn a 50 to 60 percent( sometimes even lesser) of the semester portions and try and listen to our friends who have managed to learn the rest of the portions.
The most effective one or two hours of listening before the exam is when we learn the most and then the rest is history for each of us.
So no wonder the effectiveness of 'learning by listening' is being cited as the paramount of all means of learning.
There is another important aspect of thirukkural, while the meaning of each kural can be relished as is, the essence or rasa of the life lessons emerge by relating the lessons learnt from one kural to another related kural.
There is a beautiful explanation on how we need to perceive and pursue the connectivity between Arathupal, Porutpal and Inbathupal (Pls read Izhmagal's explanation.)
In relation to this connectivity, there is another kural that I recollect,
அறிவுடைமை- குறள்- 423
"எப்பொருள் யார் யார் வாய்க் கேட்பினும் அப்பொருள் மெய் பொருள் காண்ப தறிவு"
"To discern the truth in every thing by whomsoever spoken is wisdom"
In the first verse the poet spoke about the importance of learning by listening and subsequently in the above verse he imposes the importance of understanding the truth in everything we hear and warns us not to fall prey to the fallicies of the words.
In real world, judging people and forming perceptions on what we hear is persistent.
It is important not to arrive at conclusions and spread negativity. Being concious about the truth and not making false perceptions can make us little more wise.
Every little detail from the kural is a life goal🙏🙏
Happy to have tried a log on thirukural and I wish the thaiyalpathivu s keep progressing. I would like to nominate a few authors (leaving those that izhmagal has nominated ) who can take their dig at this
