Chapter 33

"I can't believe I don't remember any of that." Jayden says flabbergasted after listening to me explain everything to him.

"I can't believe you said you love Ashley." I state.

He shivers in disgust, "you're telling me. I'm disgusted with myself."

I laugh, "I was kidding Jayden, don't be too hard on yourself. You were obviously under some kind of trance, I noticed your wolf was trying hard to fight whatever kind of spell you were under."

He gives me an odd look, "So my wolf knew what was going on?"

I nod my head as we make our way back to the camp grounds. "Yeah. And what's also strange is the fact that a voice popped into my head telling me to not listen to Ashley and 'don't give up on us'. The voice even told me that something was making you act strange." I shrug.

He looks down at me, "the voice said to not give up on us?" I nod and he ponders the idea for a moment. Finally he says, "was the voice deep and a little raspy?"

I think about it, "actually yeah it was. How did you know?"

He smirks, "Cause that voice is in my head all the time. That was my wolf. I don't know how, but he must have talked to you."

My jaw drops. "You're wolf managed to communicate with me? Is that even possible?"

He shrugs and I can see the camp getting closer. "Who knows. Probably. I mean we can mind link so I don't see why he can't find a way to contact you."

"Impressive. So how did you end up with Ashley anyway? What's the last thing you remember?"

We enter the camp grounds near Jayden's tent. We stop there and continue our conversation.

"I remember finishing setting up my tent and throwing my stuff into it. Then Ashley came over. I was about to tell her off, but once we made eye contact I just don't remember anything."

I growl lightly, still pissed at her for putting Jayden in a trance. Especially a trance where he acted like he loved her. How messed up in the head do you have to be in order to manipulate someone into loving you? The other guy was so willing to obey her as well. Oh. Hold on a second. I'm starting to put two and two together.

"Wait Jayden. I think the guy that took me was under her control as well. I still don't know how, but she must have manipulated him too. His eyes were dilated and empty, just like yours were. But you put up a fight, the other boy was deep in the trance."

"What was his name again?" He asks.

"Aaron I think."

"Aaron. Really?" I nod. "I'm going to talk to him." He turns to head toward the camp fire.

I reach my hand out and grab his large bicep. "Wait!"

He looks down at me. "What's wrong?"

"You're not going to get mad at him right? I'm pretty sure he was under her control."

He sighs, "I might be pissed that he dragged you off like that, but I'm not irrational. I just want to talk to him to see if he can remember anything. We need to get to the bottom of this and figure out how she was able to control us."

I nod in agreement. "Okay sounds good. But one last question. What are we going to do about Ashley? We can't let her get away with this."

He lets out a cold laugh. "Oh trust me, she won't. When we get back from this trip I will talk to my dad. There is no way he is going to take this lightly."

"Do you think he will believe me?"

"You mean believe us. Of course he will. He may not like our relationship, but he would hate someone manipulating my head even more. Who knows, maybe this will even get my dad to stop pestering me into dating Ashley."

I smile, knowing that Jayden is on my side completely. I don't know how Ashley was able to manipulate Jayden into going against his will, but she is going to pay for doing it.

"That would be nice, maybe he would even be willing to give our relationship a chance once he understands how crazy Ashley is." I add.

Jayden smiles and leans down to give me a peck on the lips. "We can only hope for the best. Let's go to the campfire so that way I can talk to Aaron."

I nod in agreement.

We head over to the fire. At this point in the night, practically everyone is out here roasting marshmallows and making smores. Jayden knows everyone in the pack, so he knows exactly what Aaron looks like. He is sitting across the fire next to a blonde chick and a couple of other boys. They are all laughing and having a good time. Jayden wanders over there and taps on Aaron's shoulder. Aaron looks up confused. Jayden motions to the side asking Aaron to go and talk with him. Aaron agrees and they go off together. I notice the blonde and the boys Aaron was sitting with snicker as he goes, thinking that he is going to get in trouble.

I take the time to look around for Lexi. Glancing around the campfire I see people crowded all around. A couple sits on a long log, the boy has his arm draped around his girlfriend and she nuzzles up to him. Next to them are a group of friends who are surrounding a girl with a guitar. Together they sing along to campfire songs and laugh. Behind them is a table with snacks and refreshments. Lexi stands there and hands out the crackers and chocolate for smores.

I make my way over to the table as she is handing a guy some chocolate pieces and gram crackers. She notices me approaching and smiles.

"Hey girl, it's about time you showed up. Where have you been this whole time?" she asks, giving a girl some smores materials.

"Long story, but I went looking for Jayden."

She gives me a strange look. "I feel like there is something you're not telling me." She points out.

I laugh, "You can always read me, can't you?"

She smirks victoriously. "Spill it."

I glance around. There are a ton of people. It's not something I should bring up to the public just yet. We need to let the Alpha handle the situation before rumors start spreading.

"It's not something I can bring up with everyone around. How about I tell you later tonight when we go to bed?" I suggest. It's not like I don't want to tell her, this just isn't the best place for it.

She sighs as she picks up an empty gram cracker box and breaks it down. "I suppose that will do. Is this a good or bad thing?"

I think for a moment, "Bad, I suppose?"

She shakes her head, "Am I going to have to beat someone up? Is Jayden being a jerk again?"

I laugh. "No Jayden isn't being a jerk again. And no you don't need to beat anyone up. I think I've got this one handled."

She chucks the folded up box onto the ground with other boxes and opens up a new one. She smiles at my comment. "Okay but if you ever need someone to do your dirty work, I'll be here for you."

"Oh trust me," I say to her. "I know." I glance around and see everyone having a great time, yet Lexi is stuck here passing stuff out. "Are you going to be off duty soon, or will you be handling this all night?" I ask.

She smiles, "I was actually doing this to pass the time. Want to make a smore with me?"

I nod and she gathers the crackers and chocolate. I go over to the next table to get two sticks and two marshmallows. We meet near the campfire and start assembling the marshmallows onto the sticks. I give Lexi hers and she gives me my crackers and chocolate.

As we roast the marshmallows, we listen to the campfire songs and the sounds of everyone laughing and having a good time. I rotate my marshmallow in the flames, allowing it to cook evenly, trying to get that perfect golden brown color I've seen on Pinterest. I'm concentrating hard when suddenly arms wrap around my waist from behind. I jump a bit. Then I feel the tingles and sparks crash through my body in waves. I lean back and relax, feeling a broad and defined chest on my back. I smile as Jayden lowers his head down to my ear.

"You started making me a smore? How nice of you." He comments.

I snicker at this, "Good try, but this one is mine. You're allowed to have a bite if you want, but I'm not giving you the whole thing."

He sighs, "Fine, I suppose a bite will suffice. But you owe me later."

A cough sounds from beside us. I turn to my left to see Lexi looking at us with a raised eyebrow. "I know you two are happy and all, but lets try to keep the PDA to a minimum."

I look around and notice some people looking at us and I feel my cheeks blaze red. I was so absorbed in how good Jayden's presence made me feel that I forgot that we were in public. Jayden sighs and releases me from his embrace. I whimper in my head, but in a sense I'm sort of glad. People start to look away now that he's let go of me. I'm starting to calm down a bit.

"Lexi you sure know how to ruin a guy's night." Jayden comments sadly.

She giggles, "Oh pish posh. You will be fine." She looks back at the fire, "Sophia your marshmallow!" She comments loudly.

I turn my head to the fire to find my marshmallow engulfed in flames. "Oh no!" I pull it out of the fire quickly and start blowing on it. The fire extinguishes in a matter of seconds, but that doesn't save the marshmallow from being completely burnt. I sigh, disappointed that I burnt my first marshmallow. I go to put it into the gram cracker when Jayden stops me.

"Woah, woah, woah. Don't tell me our going to use that thing to make a smore?" He asks, completely baffled by my action.

"Well obviously. It's the only marshmallow I have."

He shakes his head, "Come on even Vince could make a better marshmallow than that."

A voice booms from behind me, "Hey man, that's rude. I'm known for my good marshmallow making skills."

Vince comes up next to me with two sticks and a bag of marshmallows in his hands. Jayden raises an eyebrow at him.

"There is no way you can beat me in a smores competition." Jayden comments.

Vince snickers at that comment, "Oh yeah? Why are you so sure of yourself? Let's settle this right now."

Jayden smirks, "Bring it."

Vince hands him a stick and a marshmallow. Lexi decides to stick around too, even though Vince is here. She wants to watch the competition play out. We laugh for the rest of the night as the two boys continue to dish out smores after smores. They run around the camp asking random people to judge. In the end, Jayden wins.

At this point, the fire is practically dead and everyone has returned to their tents to sleep. The only stragglers are the four of us and a few couples who are still flirting with their significant others. Lexi, Vince, Jayden and myself laugh with each other as Jayden teases Vince about losing.

"Okay, okay, okay. That's enough from you. You totally didn't win fair and square. No one wanted to tell the son of the Alpha that his smores sucked so they had to say you were better. It's a respect thing, totally not fair." Vince complains as he stands from the log.

Jayden laughs, "It was totally fair, you just suck at making smores, point blank kid."

Vince rolls his eyes, "Think it's fair all you want. But it totally isn't. Whatever man, I'm going to bed. Night guys." He waves as he walks away, sulking.

"Night!" Jayden and I shout as he goes. Lexi just ignores him. Dang, and here I was thinking we made progress. Guess I was wrong.

"Ready for bed?" Lexi asks me as Vince gets out of sight.

I yawn and nod my head, "Sure thing. I'm pretty tired."

We stand but Jayden grabs my wrist. I look down at him questioningly. He turns to Lexi, "Mind if I still her for a little while longer?"

My face flushes at his question. He took me by surprise on this one.

Lexi smirks devilishly, "Sure. Don't keep her out too late." She comments with a wink.

"No promises." He fires back at her and my face flames even more than before. I know he is kidding but it's still embarrassing.

Lexi giggles and waves to us, "Night guys. Soph, this doesn't mean I'm letting you off the hook with your secret, you still need to tell me later."

I smile to her and waves good night as I say, "Don't worry I will tell you all about it later. Good night Lexi."

As she heads off to our tent, Jayden stands up from the log. I look up at him. His dark hair shines, reflecting the remaining flames that are in the fire. I watch as he turns his head my way and looks down at me. His emerald eyes glow. They look into me and I feel a pull toward him.

"So what did you need me for?" I ask.

He smirks. Reaching up, he tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. "What, a guy can't want to spend time with his mate?"

I laugh as his fingers trail down my ear and my neck, tickling me as they go. "I mean that's completely fine but I know there is something else going on."

He smiles, "You know me too well." His fingers slide down my arm and connect with my hand. "I talked to Aaron, and I think you're right. He says he doesn't know what he did tonight, he remembers talking to his friends and then he went to go to the bathroom in the woods. He met Ashley there and that's the last thing he remembered until he found himself walking back to the camp from the woods."

I grunt, "I'm so confused though. How could she manipulate people? Is she a witch or something?"

He laughs, "oh come on Sophia, we know witches don't exist."

I roll my eyes. "How do you know that? Werewolves exist."

"Yeah but witches are so unrealistic."

I sigh, "Whatever. I'm just saying, we need to be ready for anything with this girl. She's stronger than we can imagine."

"How come she didn't manipulate you?" He asks suddenly.

"Hold on." I think for a moment. That would have made it so much easier for her. "That's a good point."

He smirks, "I'm not all looks you know. I've got some brains too."

I laugh and gently pat his chest. "I never doubted you." He smirks down at me and I resist the urge to kiss that sexy smirk right off his face. "But you're right, it would have been so much easier for her to just manipulate me. That way everything could go her way. There must be something preventing her from manipulating me, you know, a reason she can't get me under her control."

"Well I was thinking about it, and do you remember a couple of weeks ago when we were at the waterfall with everyone?" He asks.

I raise an eyebrow skeptically at him. "And you threw me off the cliff? Uh, yeah, I remember that."

He gives me a sheepish smile, "yeah sorry about that." He squeezes my hand gently. "But that's not what I'm referring to. I'm talking about after that, when all the male werewolves tackled you."

"Oh yeah, I remember that. I still can't believe they all snapped like that, it was weird."

"Not only was it weird, but they barley remember doing it. And think about it, they jumped at you when you started to hurt Ashley. Coincidence?" He asks me.

My eyes widen, "So all the people around her were influenced and places under a spell?"

"Exactly."

My eyes widen, "and the only people not affected were Lexi and me. The only difference between all of us, are our genders. Do you think she can only manipulate guys?"

He shrugs. "That's what it's starting to look like."

I place my fingers onto my chin. I ponder everything for a moment but nothing comes to mind. Now we know Ashley can manipulate guys, but we still don't know how she can. None of it makes sense. There must be something we are missing.

"Let's not think about it too much. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow, and I'm pretty sure Lexi is going to kill me if I keep you out too late. We should head to bed." Jayden states looking down at me.

I pout out my bottom lip, disappointed that our alone time is over. He smiles. Reaching up with his hand he tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. Sparks follow where his fingers trail. I close my eyes at the wonderful feeling as his hand travels down my neck slowly and tediously. I try and memorize every second of his touch, imprinting it in my memory. As his fingers pass the small of my neck, a weird yet pleasing sensation passes through my body, causing me to moan quietly and unconsciously. My eyes slowly, open to see Jayden watching me hungrily. His eyes darken and my body shudders wonderfully under his stare.

"I changed my mind, I'm not returning you to Lexi yet." His voice is low and hungry.

I blink my eyes twice before I say, "huh?"

In the next moments my feet are swiped off the ground. I'm cradled in Jayden's arms, princess style. My heart beats fast by the suddenness. When I look up, I notice we are already heading toward Jayden's tent. Can't say I'm not excited.

I wrap my arms around his neck and rest my head on his strong chest. I close my eyes as I hear his heart beat, steady and rhythmically. It's only a few minutes when Jayden leans down and kisses my forehead, causing me to open my eyes and look up into his emerald ones. They shine in the moonlight and I find myself captivated.

"We're here." He announces quietly.

I smile as he places my feet to the floor and helps me balance. He grabs the zipper on the tent and opens it. He hops in and pulls me in after him. I giggle as I sit in the large tent on top of the sleeping bag. It's even larger than the tent that Lexi and I have. I watch as he zips the tent back up.

When he turns around I comment, "you know Lexi is going to kill you if I don't return, right?"

He joins me on the sleeping bag. He raises an eyebrow at my comment and gently pushes me down, so that I'm lying on my back. He leans over me so that way his body is between my legs and his arms are on either side of my head holding himself up. Butterflies spread giddily through my entire body.

"She can kill me all she wants tomorrow but nothing's stopping me from being with you right now."

My face flushes at his comment. His hand caresses my cheek and my eyes wander down to his lips. He doesn't hesitate as he crushes his lips to my own. Our mouths move in sync, feverishly. He slips his tongue into my mouth. I moan as his one hand travels down my side and under my shirt. Tingles spread with ever touch he makes, filling my body with joy.

Oh boy. I could make out with Jayden forever.

We continue or passionate entanglement until will grow tired a drift off into sleep.
