Chapter 25

We graduated from Mario Kart and now moved onto Super Smash Brothers. That's what we are playing when a deep voice rings from the doorway. Everyone stops what they are doing and turns.

"Jayden." The voice says.

I even feel chills spread through my body as I hear the intimidating voice. I know immediately who it is, but I turn anyway. I confirm my thoughts as I see Alpha Renalds standing at the door. He looks pissed.

I feel Jayden shift under me and I realize that I need to get up as well because I'm still on his lap. I quickly blush from embarrassment. I stand and Jayden follows suit. I whimper internally as he walks away toward his father.

Everyone stays frozen and watches as Jayden crosses the room toward his dad. I feel my heart quicken as I start to get nervous without him near me. I was still using him as a security blanket. He exits the room and follows his dad down the hall.

Everyone relaxes and starts to talk and play games again. I stare off at the door, saddened and worried that Jayden has left.

Suddenly a hand touches my shoulder and I jump, surprised and a bit frightened.

"Relax Sophia it's just me." Vince says.

I turn and look into his eyes. He can probably see that I am somewhat scared because the next thing he does is remove his hand from me and takes a step back, giving me my space. I take a shaky breath and calm myself. I will be fine, just because Jayden isn't here doesn't mean anything. No one will hurt me. It's just Vince.

"Sorry... um what do you think that was about?" I ask.

Vince looks toward the door and shrugs. He plops back onto the couch.

"Who knows, Jayden always gets yelled at for the smallest things. His dad is strict with him. I guess it runs in the family. At least Alpha Renalds is more friendly than his father." Vince says.

I join him on the couch, sitting down where Jayden just was. I wonder what he is getting yelled at for now? I'm confused by their relationship.

"So Jayden's grandfather was strict?" I ask.

Vince snorts and leans up from the couch. "Strict is an understatement. This guy was crazy. I'm surprised Alpha Renalds isn't worse. He is probably able to calm his temper because he has his true mate. The Alpha's father had to be set up in his marriage. That poor woman..."

I stare at him dumbfounded.

"Jayden's grandfather never found his mate?" I ask.

Vince looks at me surprised. "No, he found her. She was just human. We aren't allowed to mate with humans."

Oh trust me, I know that. I huff and lean back onto the couch. That's crazy. So let me get this straight. Jayden's great grandfather made a law that made it illegal to mate with humans. Then his son, Jayden's grandfather, had a mate that was human. That wasn't allowed so he had an arranged marriage. Then his kid got his mate, who was a werewolf. Now Jayden's mate is me. I'm half werewolf, half human.

The thing is... I'm a half breed. That's not against the law. Jayden can mate with me if he wants so I don't see why Alpha Renalds hates me so much. Ugh, I feel like there is so much more to this that I don't know.

"I think I'm going to walk around." I say to Vince.

He looks at me concerned. I show no sign of being anything but confusion so he smiles and nods.

"Alright, see you around kid."

I hop off the couch and make it out of the room. I look around and I remember that I never got a tour of this place and I don't know my way around. That's lovely. I guess I will just wander to clear my head.

I walk around aimlessly. Eventually I make it to a door. It looks familiar and I remember that it is the door that leads to the back yard. This is where the party was held.

I open the door and walk outside. The familiar backyard makes me smile. When the field in the woods is too full, Lexi would take me here to train. We never went inside because we had no need to. I walk past the chairs and other lawn accessories and head toward the woods.

I miss training. Being with the whole pack and learning how to fight in wolf form. Speaking of wolf form, I haven't been in mine in a while. I suppose now wouldn't be the best time. Especially since I can't mind link.

I continue my walk and get to the woods. I make my way through the trees, crunching the dry leaves as I go. I feel the breeze brush along my face. It's soothing. The smells of the woods, the light breeze, the sun, the trees, and the silence of the birds. Wait? Silence?

I look around me and listen. Nothing, no birds. Suddenly I hear a twig snap. It isn't very loud but it is so quiet in the woods that it was obvious. My head snaps in that direction. I see a dark silhouette step out from the trees. I feel my heart sink and I get ready to run.

The silhouette takes a step closer and I'm about to get my ass out of there when I notice something. It looks like a girl. Not just any girl, a very familiar girl.

"Georgia?" I ask.

She finally steps into the light and looks at me. I smile and take a step toward her.

"Georgia! Where did you go? I looked for you but you weren't on the roof anymore."

She looks hesitant for a moment and glances toward the pack house. I question her actions but then realize she is still scared and shaken up.

"It's okay, you are safe here." I say confidently.

She looks at me nervously then says, "I ran away... I saw you fall and Manus, then the black wolf and I ran."

I smile, thankful that she is safe.

"Good, when I didn't see you I thought I had imagined you in my head for a moment. I'm glad you're okay." I look her over.

She looks the same as she did back at Manus's. It looks like she hasn't showered in weeks. Well we can fix that.

"Why don't you come in?" I ask.

Her eyes go wide, "I don't think I'm even allowed to be on this property right now."

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"I'm a rogue, packs don't like having me on their territory. I should leave." She says.

"No! It's okay. I will talk to the Alpha. Just come with me. We will explain to him that you were locked up with me and ask him permission to let you stay. Who knows, if you like it, you might be able to live here." I say excitedly.

She watches me nervously. Geez, what's up with her? She's usually a lot more outgoing than this. What's got her panties in a bunch?

"I suppose we could try that..." She says.

"Come on," I say happily.

I grab her wrist and drag her to the pack house. I remember all the way back to the day I came to the pack house to get instructions for my induction into the pack. I follow that route to the Alpha's office. I'm about to knock on the door when a voice stops me.

"Sophia?" I turn and see the Luna looking at me.

I smile and say, "Hello Luna."

She smiles and says, "I thought I told you to just call me Mrs. Renalds?"

"Oh yeah..."

She laughs and covers her mouth with her hand. Aw, she's so cute!

"Anyway, who is this?" she asks.

I turn and see Georgia practically shaking in her boots. Wow, I guess this must be intimidating when you have been a rogue your whole life.

"Oh this is Georgia... She was being held at Manus's with me. We just met up and she has no where to stay... I was going to ask if she could stay with our pack for a while." I say, explaining my reasoning for being in front of her husband's office.

"Oh, well it's nice to meet you Georgia." She smiles sweetly then turns to me, "Jim is talking to Jayden right now, so now isn't the best time to talk to him... how about you guys hang around the house for a while and I will talk to Jim? Then I will come find you after?"

That's really nice of her. I never knew how sweet she was. I smile and thank her. I drag Georgia to the game room. I tell her to wait here a moment. I run into the room and tap Vince on the shoulder. He turns to look at me and I smile happily.

"Hey, what's up?" he asks.

"Can I borrow your phone?" I ask.

"Sure." He digs into his pocket and pulls out his iPhone. I snatch it from his hands and smile.

"Thanks!"

I walk over to the corner of the room and scroll through his contacts. I find the name I was looking for and press it. The phone rings a couple of times and then they pick up.

"What do you want." She snarls.

"It's me, Sophia." I clarify to my best friend.

"Oh! I'm so sorry Sophie! What's up and why are you calling from Vince's phone?"

"I left my cell at home and could you bring some spare clothes for me? I will explain later, but could you bring them to the pack house ASAP?"

"Uh... Sure."

"Don't forget a sports bra and underwear!" I say, "Meet me at the bathroom upstairs! Bye!" I hang up and return the phone to Vince.

After thanking him, I get back out to the hallway and see Georgia waiting in the same spot I left her. I don't know why but I felt like while I was gone she might disappear, like the time on the roof.

I bring her up stairs and tell her she can shower. She looks excited about it. I show her where the towels are and tell her to leave the door unlocked because I have someone bringing her a spare set of clothes. She thanks me graciously and closes the door.

I take this time to lean against the wall and think.

So many things have happened and its only been one day since I have gotten back. I learned that my mom is hiding a gem somewhere, a gem with powers that is, Georgia was found, and now I know why Lexi hates Vince.

I just hope that Mrs. Renalds is able to convince her husband to let Georgia stay. He seems tense today, I wonder why. I will have to talk to Jayden when they get out of their meeting or whatever it is they are doing.

I hear footsteps come up the stairs followed by a familiar blonde. She smiles at me and hands me a bag, which I'm assuming has all the clothes in it.

"Thanks Lexi!" I say.

I open up the bathroom door and place the bag inside the bathroom then I shut the door. Lexi looks at me like I'm crazy. I laugh.

"I guess I owe you an explanation." I say.

"Uh, yeah." she says.

Well this could take a while...
