Chapter 17

I hate to be that girl whose life is revolved around a guy, but seriously not seeing Jayden for four whole days is starting to give me a headache. Sure we sometimes mind link one another, but it's not enough. I feel like I'm in a long distance relationship, yet he is so close that I feel ridiculous missing him so much. I'm craving him physically. I need his body near my own or else I will never start thinking straight. I haven't been able to get a good night's sleep for the past four nights. I never knew how much lack of sleep affects the body until now.

"Sofia!" Mom shouts, abruptly snapping me out of my daze. "I need you for a second, please come down stairs!" I push myself up from my bed lazily and follow my mom's orders.

When I reach the living room, I notice my mom and Will sitting on the love couch. I drag myself over and plop down onto the big sofa, trying not to get too comfortable, knowing this talk won't be long.

"What's up mom?" I ask her. Maybe she's going to ask why I look so run down lately... Crap, what am I going to say? Jayden and I need to be stealthy about keeping our relationship a secret.

Mom cuts off my hurried thoughts, "Well honey, Will and I were invited to attend a ball tonight and I completely forgot about it, I was going to go grocery shopping and clean but since we already said we would go, we can't miss it. It's an all night thing so we won't be back until tomorrow, possibly late in the day, so I was wondering if you could do the grocery shopping for me tonight?" She asks me timidly. I guess it would be best for me to get out of the house and do something other than trying to sleep; so I nod my head in agreement.

"Sure thing mom, just give me the list and I will take care of everything." A smile stretches across her face as she jumps up from the couch. Walking over to me, I know she wants to give me a hug so I stand as she embraces me.

"Thank you so much Sofia, you're a life saver." She shouts in my ear. I cringe for a moment from the high pitch sound of her voice. I hug her back tightly.

Quickly releasing me, she reaches back for Will's arm and drags him up the stairs. I follow but go to my room and lie on my bed.

It takes them about an hour to finish getting ready and leave for their ball. Who throws balls anymore? Aren't they just called parties now? How strange... Then again my mom was never the normal type of person, so I can see her enjoying things like balls.

I tap my foot in the air as boredom creeps over me. I really don't feel like going to the store yet. After hearing them rushing around downstairs I finally hear, "Okay we are leaving now Sophia. See you tomorrow, we love you!"

"Love you too!" I shout as they shut the door behind themselves.

Then the idea hits me. My mom just told me she was going to be out for the whole night! That means that Jayden can come over without anyone knowing. A smile creeps onto my face.

'Hey' I send to Jayden through mind link in a giddy tone.

A few moments later I hear 'Hey Soph, what's up?'

He sounds kind of distant for some reason, 'Are you busy? I can just talk to you later.' I add hurriedly.

'I'm just in a meeting with my dad, so I need to act like I'm paying attention. We can still talk though.' he says adding, 'how have you been?'

'Well I was doing okay, but I just got news that my mom and Will are going to a ball tonight and won't be back until tomorrow! So I was wondering if maybe you wanted to come over since no one would be here?' I ask excitedly. I really want to see him, my body is literally aching for his touch.

To my dismay, I hear a sulky sigh. Well that's never a good sign....

'Soph, that sounds amazing... but unfortunately that ball is our ally pack's ball-'

'Meaning you are required to go because you're the Alpha's son....'

'Exactly.'

I sigh, 'Who else is required to go?'

'The Beta, Will, and a few of my dad's advisers.'

'Does that mean Ashley is going...?' I add quickly, without thinking.

There is a pause for a moment, then I hear, 'Yes.'

In that moment I feel my heart break a bit. Not only did he not tell me about the ball, but he wasn't going to tell me that Ashely was going to it. What is the use of hiding that from me? It's just going to make me more worried that he is hiding these things rather than telling me. Does he not trust me with pack matters?

'Sophia?' He asks nervously.

'What.' I say kind of snippy.

'You're mad?' He asks.

I growl, 'A little. I didn't realize I was such a nuisance that couldn't be trusted.' I snap.

'Sophia that's not-'

I quickly block his thoughts from mine. I don't want to hear it. My body is boiling with anger. Why doesn't he tell me anything? How can we be mates when he wont even tell me about simple pack matters or more importantly, about crazy a ex-girlfriend that is attending the same ball as him? It's infuriating. Angrily I hop off of my bed.

I swipe my keys and the list mom gave me off of the counter, then head out to my car. Anger still boiling my blood, I realize that I haven't been to the grocery store here and I have no idea where I'm going...

I take out my phone and try to find the directions to the closest grocery store. I begin to drive and follow my GPS's directions. I arrive at a Stop & Shop and hurry inside to grab my mom's items.

---------

I hate grocery stores! They are always so crowded and they get me mad. People are always so rude. Especially that woman who fought me for the last orange juice carton! I literally had my hand on the carton when she tried to take it from my hand, so naturally I bitched her out and we got into this massive argument. The freaking security had to tell the women to just act her age and give me the orange juice so ha. I win!

As I pull back into the gates of my house, something feels slightly off, but I just can't put my finger on it. Hmm, well I can't think of anything that I might have forgotten, so I drop the odd feeling and park my car in its normal spot. I'm still upset about the Jayden thing, but maybe I did over react a bit. I sigh as I grab a couple of bags and walk into my house. Once I reach the kitchen I place the bags down and put away the milk and eggs.

I mean he was probably just trying to stop me from worrying and that's why he didn't tell me. After all I can trust him around her. Right?

Bump.

I look up quickly and turn my head to either side. What was that? It sounded like a thud coming from upstairs. Well I mean this house is so big it's bound to creek sometimes. Calm down Sofia, you're just lacking sleep... I walk back out to my car and grab the rest of the groceries and put them away. As I finish I let out a sigh of relief, I hate groceries, they are a huge pai-

Bump.

My thoughts are interrupted by another thud coming from upstairs. Okay now I'm starting to get weirded out. I slowly creep to my staircase and look up them. Nothing so far, so I continue, as I creep up more I hear the tussling come to a sudden stop, then I freeze. There's something up there. My heart begins to race and I feel sweat begin to form on my forehead, I take a deep breath in through my nose to calm myself and that's when I realize it. There's a stench lingering in the air. One that I have never smelt before and know that it doesn't belong in my house. That's when I begin to freak out. I slowly step down the stairs. I need to get out and fast.

Creek.

Shit! I stepped on the one loose stair that makes noise. I freeze. Terror rises in me, and I hear someone walking toward the staircase from upstairs. Oh no. It's now or never. I run as fast as I can down the steps and try making it to the front door.

The next thing happens so fast, a blur comes rushing from my left side and tackles me before I can reach the door. I scream out and thrash around, but the tackler covers my mouth and mutes my sounds. Before I can look at the person who threw me to the ground, I begin to feel light headed and dizzy. The next thing I see is darkness...

*******

My head is pounding. I groggily lean up a bit. Where am I? But when I open my eyes I can't see anything. What the hell? Am I blind? I frantically look around again and to my relief I see a little tiny light coming in from behind me. It must be a tiny hole in the wall or something. I sigh in relief and begin to calm down.

Okay so my eyes are fine, but realistically that doesn't help me at all, where the hell am I?

I notice the heavy weight pressed on my ankles and wrists. Hmm, this is a weird feeling. I try moving my left arm and with a little bit of effort I am able to, but when I do move it, a sound of metal scrapping the ground surrounds me. That can only mean one thing... I'm trapped and they, whoever 'they' are, have me constrained by metal, and judging by the feel of it, it's extremely thick metal.

I let out a frustrated sigh. "Well this is annoying." I say quietly under my breath.

"Oh you're awake."

Hold up. Did something just talk to me? No, no. I'm definitely hallucinating right now.

"Excuse me I heard you talk, I know you are awake. Please answer me." The voice says pleadingly.

"Um, yeah I'm awake." I say to the strange voice. "Uh, two questions. One, where the hell are we? And two, who are you?" I ask.

I hear a sigh.

"Well to answer your second question, I am Georgia Nunez. And to answer your first question, I'm not really sure. I just know that I have been here for about two days." Two days?

"Are you chained up too?" I ask and pull at my chains again to hear the metal scrapping.

"Unfortunately." She says. She tugs on her chains and I hear them clank against the cold floor. "I've only seen what the room looks like a few times. The only time I see light is when they drop off food, and when they let you into the room. Let me tell you, it's not pretty in here..." she says and trails off into her thoughts.

"Do you know why they have us locked up in here?" I ask.

I hear a gentle sigh come from the girl. "I mean I'm not sure why they have you in here but I'm pretty sure I know why they have me in here."

"And that is?" I ask curiously. I don't mean to sound rude, it's just we need to share as much information with each other as possible.

"Well... I think it's because of the resistance."

"The resistance? Resistance from what?"

I hear a small laugh, "You haven't lived here long have you?"

"Uh, no." I say.

"I'm assuming you're a half breed or your mate is a human."

"I'm a half breed. Why would you assume that?" I ask.

How did she know that? What is this resistance and why am I here? I'm not even part of a resistance.

"Oh that explains why you don't know about the resistance then. You're parents are probably part of it, that explains why you are here..."

"Okay well my mom is not part of a resistance, she would have told me. Could you please explain to me what this 'resistance' is? I'm pretty confused and frustrated right now. They have the wrong person if they are looking for a resistant party member because I'm not in it." I complain loudly.

"Shh!" She hisses at me. "Keep you're voice down. I'm sure they have guards waiting outside the door, if you talk to loud they will heard us." She scolds.

I sigh and lean back onto the cold hard wall.

'Jayden. Are you there? I really need you.' I mind link to him. Our earlier conversation pops into my head and suddenly my heart throbs. Shit I was so mean, he probably blocked me.

I wait a few moment but I hear nothing. Why was I such an ass? I really need him right now. Worry floods my system and I wonder when I will ever get out of here.

Suddenly I hear a clicking sound and the door begins to creep open. I watch as light floods into the room and for the first time I get to see my surroundings. My body trembles in fear as I see dried blood scraped along the floor.

I look over at Georgia and gasp. She has bruises all along her body, and her clothes are torn and cut. A small line of blood drips from the corner of her mouth.

I had no idea she was that bent out of shape. She never even let on that she was hurt or hurting.

My eyes quickly look at the intruder who opened up the door. It's a man with dark brown hair that has streaks of gray faded into it. He has a big build and judging by his scent, he is a werewolf. I think he is trying to dress younger than his age as well. He is wearing a black v-neck t-shirt with jean pants that he is wearing a little low. To complete his look he has a single earring with a large jewel in the middle.

His dark eyes hover in my direction and he frowns. He makes his way over to me and squats down to my level. He reaches his hand out and grabs a stray piece of my hair and twirls it in his fingers.

"Well look what the cat dragged in." He says. "Not exactly what I was expecting but you will have to do."

Show no fear, creeps love fear. I gather up all the courage in my system and glare into his eyes.

"Who are you and why am I here." I demand rather than ask.

I hear a deep laugh and he lets go of my hair and trails his finger down my neck and to my shoulders, skimming over my exposed skin. I shudder in disgust but never turn away from his eyes.

"You look just like your mother." He states.

He knows my mother? I'm a bit curious but I can't get off track. I need to find out why I'm here and who he is.

"You still haven't answered me." I say.

He laughs, "You even have the same stubborn personality. Which, I'm sorry to say, won't help you at all in the situation you just got yourself in."

I glare deeper into his eyes, "I want answers."

A spark of enjoyment shines in his eyes. He must be a sick man. Here I am tied up and he is enjoying it.

"Oh if I didn't know any better, I would think you were your mother."

He brings up his hand to my chin and runs his finger lightly over my lips. He stares at me in adoration and I shiver in disgust. What sort of sick pleasures is he getting out of this?

"Unfortunately your eyes give you away. Besides that, you could be twins." He says.

My mom and I? Twins? I guess people do comment on our similarities sometimes but never have we been compared as twins. My mom's eyes are beautiful and blue and mine are dark brown like my father's. I guess because of that, people don't see us as being too similar.

"You keep avoiding my questions." I finally state.

He laughs. "I suppose you deserve some answers." He says and glances down at the chains holding me in place. He smirks to himself. "You see Sofia, as you may or may not know, you're father was a human."

I raise an eyebrow. Of course I know that, but what is he getting at here? I'm starting to get impatient.

"You're mother was stupid. She broke many, many laws. I tried to help her, honest, but she didn't want my help. She was just like you. Stubborn. It got to a certain point where she began to lose herself. She betrayed her pack and her kind. After that point, there was no helping her. She created her own group, a group of outsiders and rogues that she called The Opposition.

"Now this group wasn't a pack, no it was more of... an agreement, an alliance actually. They banned together to oppose us, their own kind. The only problem was, we knew not who was in this group, nor did we even know it existed at the time.

"Werewolves were starting to mate illegally with humans and the order was going completely out of whack. Simple minded humans were learning of our existence. So we had to crack down on our laws, become more strict than before.

"Sure, we lost a couple dozen of our own kind during this time, but it was all for the best. They were defected, they believed that we could 'coexist' with the scum we call humans."

He shakes his head in disappointment. He reaches out to me again and caresses my cheek with his hand. He gazes at me with something in his eyes, love maybe? Fear? I just can't tell.

"Then there was a big problem. A problem I wanted to see none of. My biggest dread." He looks at me and his eyes snap into anger. "Half-breeds."

He releases me and stands abruptly. He looks at me with disgust and shakes his head.

"You are able to completely fool anyone into believing you're either human or werewolf. Being able to live both lives so easily. It sickens me."

Then his eyes begin to calm down and I see his body relax a bit. His eyes look at me apologetically, no, sympathetically.

"You're life would have been so much easier, if only you were mine."

His? What does he mean? Does he wan't me as a mate? What the hell is happening? I am so confused. I just know I don't want to be here anymore.

He shakes his head and turns away from me, "Feed them and let them use the restroom, then bring them right back. I will be back tomorrow to check on them."

With that he is out the door, leaving Georgia and me behind. My mind is scrambling to comprehend everything that has just happened. Since I'm going to be here for a while, I am going to have to scrounge up as much information as possible. Looks like my mom isn't as innocent as I always believed her to be.
