New day, New me
Chapter 2: New day, New me
I woke up early that day. I was scared and excited at the same time. I stood up and felt pain in my leg. I guess I forgot I had an injury. I sat back down and saw that there were more kids but they were all the way down and they were still asleep. I managed to get outside and saw that the sun was barely rising. I walked (I guess you could call it that) down to the beach and stayed there for a while. Listening to the beach calmed me down and reminded me of when I used to live in California when I was little. I sat there with my eyes closed and my good leg buried under the sand.
"Marrisa!" said a voice that I'm positive belonged to Annabeth. I opened my eyes and turned around. "We've been looking everywhere for you, we thought you left and were in trouble." she said looking mad and also relieved. She sighed "What matters is that you're okay, c'mon before Chiron finds out." She helped me get to the Big House and once we arrived she left to go train.
"Marissa, due to your accident you won't be doing anything with weapons, you'll stay most of the day studying Greek and sharpening weapons and delivering them." Chiron said. He looked very strange in centaur form but I figured I had to get used to it. I went down to the library and found a boy. "Um, is this where we study Greek?" I don't know what the class was called because Chiron didn't say. "Yes, I'm Malcom." he said offering a hand. I gladly shook it. He made sure that I could understand it and I did, it was so clear. From that we moved onto the history. I learned about all the Greek gods and goddesses and the Greek heroes plus the monsters. He made me take a pop quiz afterwards and I passed with a 100. Our alarm clock sounded. I had to leave. "Bye Malcom." I said grabbing my new books that I had to take and study. I tripped over my feet and landed on top of Malcom. I felt my face heat up instantly because of the position were in. "He-" Annabeth said entering the room. She looked shocked and then she smiled clearly amused. "Well, I'll get out you two lovebirds can continue." she teased.
I got out and grabbed her arm. "It wasn't like that I swear. I just tripped." I said. "Yeah, okay." she said clearly not convinced. "Then ask Malcom." I whisper yelled. "Later," We arrived at a red cabin with a wire fence and a boar's head at the top. "Welcome to the Ares cabin, since they're the offspring of the god of war so I recommend staying on their good side." Annabeth commented as she left once again.
I limped up to the door and knocked lightly. A girl opened the door. "You're Marrisa?" she asked. "Yes." I said looking her in the eye. "Would you mind telling me what I have to do exactly?" she looked down shaking her head. "Can't believe wise girl forgot" she muttered to herself. She looked back up. "So you are supposed to come here and pick up all the weapons that people brought us take it to that cabin over there with the gears," she said pointing to a cabin with a door made of metal and gears. "When they're done you bring 'em back, simple." she opened the door and motioned for me to follow. She handed me a lot of weapons, mostly swords. She gave me a bucket like one for clothes except made of metal. I walked over to the Hephaestus cabin and I gave them the bucket. When Annabeth told me about this I thought we were washing them and sharpening them but no we were melting them and pouring them in molds and it was really hot here, not even two minutes and I was already sweating.
-Timeskip-
I was walking up to the Hermes cabin because I still wasn't claimed and I had to leave the infermary. I got one space on the floor and lucky for me I brought nothing so I would lose nothing.
-two weeks later-
I went down to the infermary to get my medicine if my ankle started to hurt. No more bandages I could walk with my weight on my leg again. Which ment today I could go sword fighting. That is the only thing that changed. I was still in the Hermes cabin because I still haven't been claimed. I went straight down to the arena. I felt a bit sad because I wouldn't be working with Malcom, Clarisse and the Hephaestus cabin anymore but I guess in my free time I'd help them out.
I got snapped out of my thoughts when I bumped into a door. "Ow" I said while rubbing my forehead. I opened the wooden door to find a lot of people. Probably half the camp or maybe a bit less. I didn't who I was working with so I stayed put. As I watched I noticed that they were all fighting in patterns. I found that sort of dumb. I mean what if the opponent was fighting but also noticed their every move and found out the pattern, he could use it as an advantage right? "Hey." said Annabeth. This time she was wearing a camp Half-Blood t-shirt and shorts unlike last time. "Pick one." she said leading me to a wall with weapons all over it. I was looking for a sword because spears are too heavy and daggers feel too light in my hand. I found one that looked okay. I tried it and it was really light and then I went to another one that was heavy. None of them felt right, either too light or too heavy. "Marissa, its okay just pick one that is close to being perfect for you " Annabeth advised. I ended up picking the light one that I tried the first time.
First Annabeth showed me how to hold it properly then she moved onto showing me how to dodge and still slash at it. After a while she stood up "Okay, I think you are good. Now for the real thing, you against me." she said walking over to an open area. "Um, but aren't you like one of the best at camp?" I said getting nervous. "I'll go easy on you." I know that was a nice gesture but it made feel like she was saying that I was terrible and that is what made me want to go. "Alright." I said smiling. I positioned myself infront of her. "Okay, just don't really try an kill me." Annabeth said. We were circling each other and then we started coming closer until I heard our weapons clash together. She was always going up,right, left, right then she went to my arm and then she repeats. Since I figured out how she fights I started blocking her strikes which were hard because she moves very fast. I then remembered that we could do anything necessary to win. I used to be in dance so we did plenty of stretching and for one session we (the girls) had to do the splits. She went for my head and then I went all the way down then I got back up and hit my hand hard against hers and her dagger went flying out of her reach. She had her mouth open and then she looked down at her arm and she was bleeding. "Oh gods Annabeth I'm so sorry." I said shocked that I forgot my sword was still in my hand when I hit her and my sword must have cut her. She closed her mouth "It's okay, it's not that deep." she turned around and went to retrieve her dagger. "You should still get it bandaged because I don't want you to get it infected." At that she smiled. We walked to the infermary together.
Once we got out Percy came and stopped in the middle of his sentence and grabbed Annabeth's hand. "Who did this to you I'll ki-" Percy started. "Its okay Marissa did it on accident," she started walking away."Also she beat me in the arena!" she said her back towards us. I went to the Hermes' cabin.
When I came back everyone was already in bed and the lights were off. I quietly went to my sleeping bag. "Psst, Marissa." someone whispered. I guess I'm imagining things. "Marissa" the voice whisper yelled. "What." I replied. "Is it true you beat Annabeth in a fight?" they said. "Yes, is it hard to believe?" I said hurt that nobody thought I could beat her. "No offense but yes it's hard to believe." I could see the person talking to me, it was Travis. I sat up and slapped his arm. "Ouch." he said even though it was light.
-the next day-
(Monday)
It was my break and I decided to stay and help Malcom today. I made a schedule and I help Malcom every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and I help Clarisse and the Hephaestus cabin every other day. Right now I was putting books back on their shelves. "Uh-oh" I said to myself. I broke my nail and I was bleeding, this isn't the first time so I was used to the slight pain. "Hey Malcom, do you have a bathroom here?" I asked. He pointed to a door that had a 'Staff Only' sign on it. I went in and washed my hand then looked around for an aid kit and there was one by the fire extinguisher. I removed the broken part and put a bandage. I put everything back and grabbed my cart.
It was made of a material that reflected like if it were a mirror. I was rolling the cart towards the storage closet when a pink light caught my eye, then it turned gold and I closes my eyes because it was too bright. I opened my eyes and just continued my task. Maybe it was my imagination. "Thanks Marissa..." Malcom dropped his books and stood there expression-less then the edges of his mouth turned up. "No way." he said to himself. "What?" I asked feeling self-conscience. I looked down and found myseld wearing a white toga with gold and a V-neck. I raced to the bathroom once again. I saw that my hair was in a braided bun with some curls and I had blush, eyeliner, mascara, and cherry red lips. I looked down to find myseld wearing sandals instead of my usual black boots. "What does this mean?" I asked Malcom when I got out of the bathroom. I have to admit I actually liked it. "It means you are a daughter of Aphrodite," he said smiling. "We should tell Chiron."
