# 18 - The Day After
Sheena getting down to greet master wakes Arlene, what will happen today? Right now she's content with a full nights rest. Only the dog, apparently, got into bed with her, tolerance will be given.
Thinking Arlene may be having a harder time with last night I went out in the yard with Sheena; Do a little wet morning walk around the quarry.
Getting too quiet Arlene thought she'd been left alone for the day. Okay with the idea doesn't want to waste a nice day either. Seeing the van out front Arlene scans the property glimpsing Sheena, bounding across the road. The next thought being is this a usual thing for them or a sweet gesture for her. With coffee ready for her hopes there's not problems already.
With a mug in hand she joins the pair outside as they return. "Good morning Rob, Thanks for making the coffee. And good morning to you Sheena thanks for keeping an eye on me while slept."
"Good morning and you're welcome. I trust you slept well."
"I did and you?"
"I'm not sure, I slept right through it." With an idea to share I query. "Do you mind if say something first?"
Wanting too herself, is now curious. "Please do."
"Thanks. Before last night I'd thought maybe I would show you more of the area. But the route I was thinking is an all day thing. I still would, it's why I 'm mentioning it. But could, if you needed some more you time here or out. I can find something to do for a while, even take you some place to explore."
Almost stunned Arlene can't believe what was just said. Look and mannerism the same as before is almost annoying. Thinking she'd have to deal with moony-eyes is a tad disappointed not to see them. Perhaps her own shit, should be the concern. The quiet time would be nice. A day trip would be better and if he's keeping his shit in check, why not. "Oh no. You're not getting out of taking me on a road trip. As long as it's day light and can see, let's go."
"Well, Sheena and I may want to grab a bite first." Pointing to my wet leggings from dewy vegetation. "Change these pants too."
Not wanting to be seen as is. "I should change too."
"No hurry, will be an hour or so before I'm finally ready."
Managing to keep it together myself made the day easier for the both of us. Not feeling any pressure from the moment, Arlene was able to enjoy a simple day of sight seeing. To my delight got to see more of the jovial side of Arlene. Making silly puns and giving the odd jab to the shoulder seeing VW-bugs. Which created a silly disagreement adding to our amusement. Most seem to say 'Punch bug'. Sometimes I think it should be 'Slug a Bug' even though I rarely say it myself.
I drove us northerly to Lighthouse cove, following roads with waterways. Not an exciting place just drove in and out. She wanted to stop, but I said it wasn't good enough for her.
Instead on to Belle River show her the pier, over looking lake St. Clair, still not good enough to stop at.
Into Windsor starting at the water end of Manning road we see some of the nicest homes there. A winding drive following the Detroit river in from Grosse Pointe to the downtowns of both cities.
Down by the riverfront she got to see the casino and waterfront all the way to the bridge. Detroit was reflecting nicely off the river. She wanted to go back gamble and walk the boardwalk. I had other ideas but assured her we would return to catch a show there one night. She hoped since they played London, the Crue but any rockin' night would do.
Briskly slipping through LaSalle headed for something scenic. Content with sights so far she had no problem with waiting to see what was ahead. The drive still containing beautiful homes along the river.
Closing in on Amherstburg we can see two lake freighters passing each other. Asking to pull over to watch let her know we will stop shortly: a small town known for an original British encampment, Fort Malden. South of that, a pretty water front walkway and among the park planters a Hosta garden. The park comes to the old downtown, which resembles some place on the east coast or Britain. Two multi-floored buildings with arched columned balconies over look the water giving a feel of New Orleans.
After a couple hours walking around Amherstburg Arlene was loving the whole place. She couldn't believe what I showed her next. A small ferry crossing that goes to an island most of our generation may recall. Even if they hadn't gone would have seen a commercial for Bob-lo Island amusement park. Oh, she knew, so long ago can only remember smiles and laughs. The island is now developed into expensive homes for both Canadians and Americans.
Of course we have to cross over and take a walk around. The rides gone but the old dance hall, stone washrooms and tower structure remain.
Seeing the overgrown miniature golf course we pretended to play a few holes.
Hungry we ate a late lunch at the restaurant on the island that survives off boaters and those that have homes there. The meal okay we find the scenery was better.
Well worn, Sheena slept the ride back to Leamington while Arlene and I babbled away. Occasionally I'd points out places of interest like where the landlord lives.
Since feeling juvenile figured we should eat dinner that way, stopping for ice cream at the shop on the west side of the point.
Outside the pair of us people watching were paying extra attention to couples. Not wanting to go back to the shack and chance messing around again: Arlene wonders if there's anything else I wanted to do tonight. First thought was the tiny cinema they have or go carts up the road, but needed to watch the funds. Noting the lack of wind and warm temperature suggest a fire and start burning the fallen branches and sticks.
We do. As I get the fire going Arlene finds a couple chairs for us. Gathering up branches Sheena wasn't much help but makes it amusing. For the neighbor's kids peeping out the window as well.
Watching the fire until eleven we finished up the last of the wine. The next hour of a fire ends up being my favorite letting the embers cool down. At first Arlene wondered why until explaining how I see things like tiny villages among the orange and black.
Having a good weekend so far I feel asleep alone but still with a smile. In her dark room she tussled with thoughts before finally succumbing to sleep.
