takes place on Eden's prom night. She's 18

I never imagined I'd wear a red dress, waiting for a boy who I really like to go to prom.

"Are you ready?" Daniel asks.

"Yep. Gary should be here soon."

"He better be. I'm bored of waiting. I have stuff I want to do tonight." (Sigh)

"Like what? Hide in your room and play on those video games?"

"Alright, Edie, don't act like you have such a good social life." A smile crosses his face. "You spend half your time at that lab and the other half talking to your Pokémon."

"Dawn is an excellent friend." I look down at the Eevee at my feet. "Look. I put a flower in her hair."

"She doesn't have hair!"

"You put flowers on Evie for your prom. She looked very pretty." I look at his Venusaur. She lowly grunts in appreciation.

"Whatever." He smiles. There's a knock at the door. I answer it. There's Gary, in his tux.

Mom comes through. "Oh, gosh! Look at you two! Let's get a picture of you all."

I pick up Dawn. Gary smiles and releases his Squirtle and puts an arm around my waist.

"Smile!"

We both smile. She takes a number of pictures. "Let's get Eden and Daniel together."

I stand behind Daniel, and wrap my arms around his neck. My mom takes some pictures.

"Oh, lovely. Go on, Danny, take them so I can cry."

Danny smiles. "Come on, guys."

We head out to his car. I sit next to Gary in the back.

"Are you excited?" Gary asks.

"Yeah, I think. Feels a bit weird, to be honest."

"Yeah. But, hey, I think it'll be fun."

I nod and smile. Daniel pulls up at the venue. Gary gets out and I'm about to follow, but my brother stops me.

"Hey, Eden. Enjoy yourself. Please. Really enjoy yourself." He gives me a smile. I nod and give him a quick hug.

"I will. Don't worry." I smile. "Enjoy having no life."

He laughs gently. "Goodbye."

I wave and get out of the car. Gary takes my hand and leads me inside.

All our classmates. They're stood around, looking formal, with their Pokemon. Dawn hops into my arms, and then onto my shoulder.

"Hey. Want a drink?" Gary smiles.

"Sure."

He goes and buys me something very alcoholic and I sit and drink. Any nerves I was feeling wash away.

I'm glad for the drinks as the night goes on. Otherwise, things would have been very boring.

Things start going a bit blurry and my stomach starts churning and I realise I'm gonna vomit everywhere, so I make a mad dash for the ladies and save my dress, shoes, and everyone else just in time. I do feel better after that and I head out. Gary's waiting for me with water.

"Here."

"Oh, I love you." I smile, taking it.

"...really?"

"Sure. Why not?" I smile more and drink the water. He tucks some of my hair out of my face and kisses my forehead.

"Well, I love you too."

I laugh. "Lovely!"

My phone starts ringing and I head outside where it's quieter to take it. It's my dad.

"Hello?" I'm suddenly aware how my voice is slurring.

"Eden... wait, are you drunk?"

"No." I lie.

"Okay. Um... we have some bad news."

"What's that?"

"Daniel's in hospital."
