Is This How I Die

Before you threw yourself into the forever going galaxy, you had a thought.

"Is this how I die? Is this how I'll be remembered, by sacrificing myself for a man whom I've just met?"

You threw the thoughts out of your head, swinging yourself towards him. You managed to swing him to the pole you were grappled onto, but left yourself with nothing, but air to latch to.

You heard the faint sounds of Keith yelling your name, but when you tried to respond, your mouth opened, but nothing came out. You were barely strong enough to keep your eyes open long enough for someone to come for you. You were helpless. The communicators in your helmet were piercing your ears, as you heard everyone urging you to answer them, ensuring that you were okay, but again, you couldn't answer.

You suddenly felt a weird feeling in your chest, but you couldn't exactly pinpoint what it was. You went to grab your chest, but felt your necklace instead. Then, he popped into your head, your brother. What would he think if you just gave up, if you went down without a fight. He'd hate you more than you'd hated yourself for letting go. You grasped the gem, and hid it within your fist. Once you looked down, it began glowing again.

It had done this once before, when you became flustered by Keith's compliment. And once again, after you were thrown into space to save your teammate, Keith. Was Keith the key to this gem? What connection did this mysterious man you'd met a few days ago, have to do with a gem you had treasured for years?

The tears began to sting your eyes, before your couldn't hold them back anymore. Without making a sound, you let the tears flow silently down your cheeks. They were able to somewhat subside the pain of your wounds, but not completely. The pain would come in excruciating waves of agony. Until, you couldn't keep your eyes open anymore, you were about to drift off into an unconscious state, before something appeared out of thin air. You opened your eyes as much as the remaining amount of strength you had would allow. The sight before you was breathtaking.

It was there, right in front of you, the lion. It hovered about you, staring a bit before it enlarged it's mechanical mouth, taking you in. You weren't able to move, but you didn't know if it was because of the shock, or because of the pain. The lion had set you in a white, leather seat, which was pushed up to a control panel. It looked almost identical to the interior of that of the blue lion.

You groaned as you straightened yourself up in the seat. Suddenly, every sense was coming back to you.

"(Y/N)! (Y/N)! Please, answer us!" Lance cried out through the communicators. His face popped up as holographs above your control board.

"The suit didn't hold up very well," you weakly chuckled. Suddenly everyone face popped up, each letting out a massive sigh of relief. Lance even looked like he was crying. Although his helmet hid his face fairly well, you could see Keith's mile long smile.

"Nice to have you back (Y/N)," Shiro remarked. "I assume this means both you and Keith were able to get your lions."

"You know it," you chuckled. "Well, let's get back to the castle," you coughed out. All the lions came beside you.

"Are you sure your good?" Hunk worried. You looked down to your stomach wounds, which were oozing blood onto your lap, you could only imagine how bad the wound on your back must have looked.

"Yeah, let's just get back to the castle," you plastered a smile to hide the pain of the cuts. Everyone agreed and made their way back to Allura and Coran.

Once you made it back to the castle, six pods opened in front of the castle, you each stopped, none of you knew what to do.

"Don't worry Paladins, these are the pods where your lions will be kept, just fly them in and you'll be good," remarked Coran, one by one, you each flew your lions into their separate pods. You landed yours and were soon ready to head back to the princess. Once you stood up, you instantly fell over, cupping your stomach as you groaned. You looked at the chair you'd sat on, and saw a pool of blood on the back of the seat where you'd laid your back. You attemped standing up again, but this time, leaned on the wall until you were outside the pod room.

Once you stepped out the door, you collapsed. You held onto your wounds, but blood continued to seep out. Before you were going to try dragging yourself to your room, you heard footsteps.

"Hey (Y/N), how was-- (Y/N)!" Lance exclaimed as he began sprinting to your aid.

"I'm fine," you winced as he began to pick you up in a bridal style fashion.

"By the expression on your face, you're not in the least bit fine," he looked down, showing a mix of worry and fear. "Shiro! Princess! Coran! Someone!" Lance yelled, his voice echoed throughout the halls. Shiro was the first to arrive from Lance's call.

"I heard you yell, what's wro--," Shiro asked. He paused once he saw you cradled within Lance's arms. "(Y/N), what happened!" He placed his hand on your stomach, you let out a pained groan and curled closer to Lance's body. "Get her to the lounge, that's where I last saw Coran and the princess, they'll be able to help, I promise," he pushed your hair behind your ear, and guided Lance to Allura, hoping she would have someway to heal the pain.

"Princess! Princess!" Lance yelped as he carried you through the lounge door. You wearily opened your eyes to see everyone chatting away on the sofas. They all stopped talking and stared silently at your limp body that laid itself in Lance's arms. Keith's face became white in terror, not realizing how wounded you actually were when you fell into space.

"Paladins! What happened!" Coran rushed to your side. You tried to mutter what happened, but it all became a blur. You were only able to remember bits and pieces of what had happened. You were able to recall being placed in the center of the room and everyone huddling around you, inspecting your stomach, and holding you up to see your back, every time they moved you, a slight yelp of pain was able to escape your lips.

The last thing you were able to remember was water falling onto your cheeks, but once your eyes revealed themselves, you saw it wasn't just water, but tears that escaped Keith's violet eyes. He laid his lips upon your forehead, and with that, you closed your eyes, not knowing the next time they'd open.
