Part 3 - Different

It was like a night over at my place, both my friends were here to stay with me because we had a plan to catch the creepy stranger that was sending me such weird notes.

At the moment we were seated in my house watching some movie, Tanvi and I were concentrating on it while Arnav was concentrating more on his phone and he had this stupid smile on his face that won't go away.

"You aren't supposed to flirt with girls when you are with us." I threw the pillow I had been holding at him.

"Not my fault, I'm a sexy man, girls can't resist my charm." He smirked proudly.

"Jerk." Tanvi and I rolled our eyes at him and once again he was back to texting whoever he had been texting.

"So antisocial." Tanvi said.

"He isn't getting dinner if he keeps ignoring us, he better go get one from the girl he's texting." I laughed.

"Fine you win, I will stop texting." He rolled his eyes as he finally put his phone away.

"Seriously though, why don't you just get a serious girlfriend and stick to her?" Tanvi asked.

"Darling, you know I fear commitment, it's the one thing I can never do."

"What if someday you fall in love with a girl? Like actual love?" I asked as I looked at him curiously, of course I had grown up with Arnav, I knew he feared commitments, I just wondered what would happen when he got deep feelings for some girl.

"Who said I haven't been in love." He smirked. This guy would never take anything seriously, I wondered how he was going to spend life in the future once we were done with college and got job and it was finally time to settle down and get married. Was he ever going to get married?

Sometimes I worried about him too much, I had seen him go through a lot of problems, I had seen a lot in his life and I just worried if my best friend was ever going to settle in life, I just wanted for him to be happy and be with someone who actually loved him and cared for him.

"Arnie on a serious note, don't you ever want to get married? I mean marriage is a bigger commitment than a relationship." I said.

"I don't know Shona, it's just scary, I never think of it." He sighed.

"Don't worry, maybe someday when you meet a girl that you fall for, you'll want to spend your life with her, Khushi and I will find you that girl." Tanvi giggled.

"Yes, we'll start a mission, find Arnav the love of his life." I agreed as we both teased him and he just rolled his eyes at us.

We watched the movie for a while and then decided to have dinner, after which we decided to sleep in the hall, the three of us set an alarm for 2.50 am in our phones so we would be prepared to catch the stalker or whoever this person was.

We fell asleep in no time talking about random stuff and as always Tanvi and I pulling Arnav's legs, it was always fun to watch the expressions on his face.

*****

I woke up before the alarm rang, it was like my mind knew it was time to wake up, so I turned off the alarm setting on my phone and walked towards the window near the door and peeped outside hoping I would see the person.

I stood there for a couple of minutes when I heard the Alarms ring on Arnav and Tanvi's phone, the both woke up at the same time, but Tanvi just turned off the alarm and fell asleep, she was a sleepy head like me, Arnav turned his off and looked around for me until he saw me standing near the window.

He stood up immediately and rushed towards me, grabbed my hand and pulled me towards him, I crashed on his chest and looked at him immediately.

"What are you doing Shona, you can't peep from there like that, whoever this person is seems very clever, they might know someone is peeping." He said to me.

At this moment, I wasn't even thinking about the stalker or what Arnav just said to me, my mind was somehow stuck in the way he was holding me, and the way I was feeling about being so close to him currently.

Arnav and I had been close, obviously we had such situations a lot of time, and I hadn't ever felt differently about it, I don't know why today, out of nowhere, this touch was giving me goosebumps, it felt different, not like before and for some reason I couldn't stop staring at him.

"I know I'm hot Shona, stop staring, we have a stalker to catch." He smirked proudly.

"Nope not hot for me." I rolled my eyes as I pulled myself back, wow that was a strange feeling. Did I feel this way because something in me had changed or maybe Arnav had held me in a different manner than usual today?

"So where are we supposed to peep from then?" I whisper shouted at him.

"From here." He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the door, we bent down and looked through the keyhole, we could see quite a lot from there actually.

As the clock struck three o'clock, the doorbell did ring, and we immediately opened the door, but we couldn't find anyone out there. We dint even see someone coming here and leaving anything at the door but when we opened the door, there was a card on the floor.

"Shit, I'm sorry I slept, I was supposed to wake up." Tanvi said as she stood up and rushed towards us quickly, the alarm couldn't wake her up but the doorbell did.

"Did you get him?" She asked as she looked around, Arnav nodded negatively as I bent down and picked up the car.

"Is it possible that this was left here earlier and the doorbell was pressed in some different way, maybe the person did something to your doorbell and they can control it through a phone or computer?" Arnav asked.

"I don't think that's possible." I shrugged as I headed inside, instead of following me in though, Arnav headed outside trying to find the stalker, Tanvi followed him too.

I sat down on the sofa as I looked at the card.

"Out with the secret darling!" those were the only words on it. Seriously, who the hell was this person? And how did they managed to leave the card at my door step and ring the doorbell without being seen? How was that even possible?

"There's no one outside, even the watchman says he dint see anyone, dint even hear a thing." Arnav said as he walked back in.

"You okay Khushi?" Tanvi looked at me worried, she sat beside me and hugged me tightly. I did want to be okay, but this person wasn't letting me be okay. Why would anyone ever do something like this to me? What had I done to anyone seriously?

"Don't worry Shona, I'll stay here with you until we get this person." Arnav sounded so seriously, he really did want to find out who this person was, and so did I. this was becoming scarier by each passing day.

"Yea Khushi, don't worry we won't be at peace until we find out who's doing this." Tanvi assured me.

"I am scared Tanvi." I said as I held on to her tightly, I was really scared, actually I was scared of the secret coming out more than the stalker, if it came out, everything was going to be ruined.

Arnav locked the door and walked back towards us, he sat beside me and cupped my face making me look him into the eyes.

"Is there any secret Shona?" He asked.

"No... I don't have any secrets." I lied immediately, with time I had gotten better with lying.

"Then why are you so worried, this person won't be able to do anything to you, relax okay? Tanu and I are here for you." He assured me as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder trying to make me feel better and all it ended up doing was give me goosebumps.

Seriously why was his touch feeling different all over a sudden? Wasn't this stalker enough that now I had to get strange feelings about my best friend holding me.

God please, one problem at a time.

"Relax, if not today, we'll catch this person tomorrow, I promise." Arnav assured him, I just nodded as I hugged him, I hoped we would catch the person before the secret was out though.

"Yeah, let's head back to sleep, tomorrow we'll make a new plan, like maybe get a camera installed outside so we can see who leaves the card, even if it's at another time and not the time when the doorbell rings." Tanvi said.

"That's actually a great idea, how didn't we think of it in the first place?" Arnav said.

"Because you are stupid." I laughed at him.

"At least I am smart." Tanvi smirked proudly and this time Arnav and I rolled our eyes at her.

"Come I'll sing you a lullaby." Arnav smirked as he grabbed my arm and pulled me along, we all lied down on the mattresses that we were sleeping he, before, he was sleeping in the corner but this time he decided to sleep in between Tanvi and I and he actually sang lullaby, in a very horrible tone though, Tanvi and I just ended up making fun of his singing instead of sleeping.
