Chapter 5: Rival (edited)
I awoke with the sound of steady drumming and my cheek pressed against bare skin, my glasses were uncomfortably positioned on my face. With a yawn I opened my eyes and stared at the window across from me, pale light illuminated through the thin curtains and my head rose and fell steadily a hand ran through my messy hair, I gasped and quickly sat up to see Victor bare-chested flashing me his amazing smile. "Good morning Yuuri~"
I blushed and scrambled off the bed. "V-Victor! Ah, I'm sorry!" I apologized and turned away about to leave until he grasped onto my wrist and pulled me back, I landed with my back against his chest. "Now where do you think you're going?" He whispered seductively in my ear causing a shiver to run up my spine, I wearily turned away feeling his hot breath reach the nape of my neck.
I pulled away from the embrace and turned to him he still kept a tight grip on my wrist. "Now Yuuri, we need to talk about your 'problem'." He said quickly taking me by surprise. "The pills...your anxiety." He continued on, my heart dropped, what kind of wake up call is this!? This was not what I wanted to wake up to. "R-right about that.." I mumbled and looked down at our hands, he was shaking. I looked at him and placed my free hand on his cheek this time catching him by surprise. "I've never told anyone about this so please keep this for yourself." I pleaded desperately looking into his wide teal blue eyes.
He nodded without uttering a word I sighed and dropped my hand on my lap, I took a shaky breath and started. "I've always had anxiety attacks, I guess it was due to a traumatic event in childhood." My eyes wandered away from his eyes as I spoke. "It got so bad one time I was rushed to the hospital.." I shivered at the word 'hospital' the place where I experienced the most trauma. "..after that, I was ordered to take pills if I felt too anxious to avoid getting another attack." I was surprised that I had allowed myself to speak to Victor about my problem.
I released the breath I hadn't even known I was holding in and looked back up at Victor. "That's all. I feel better thanks to you..am I allowed to skate now?" I asked. "Hmm well, little piggy we have to do something about that gut of yours." He poked the layers underneath my thick sweater. I was sweating buckets under the clothes. "Thank you for telling me though Yuuri, I want you to keep on trusting me." He loosened his grasp on my wrist and brought my hand to his lips.
I looked up at him, my heart beating so fast and hard I literally thought I would pass out any minute. He chuckled and released my hand. "Let's get ready for some early morning exercises and then head to the rink. Go eat breakfast I'll meet you there in a bit." He winked at me, I got up from the bed and walked toward the door freezing at the doorway. "Victor..thank you so much for everything." With that, I left.
I dashed to my room slipping off my clothes that were sweaty and icky, I grabbed changed into a pair of sweatpants and a thin sweater throwing my blue jacket over it. With a sigh, I trudged over to the kitchen to see my mom already setting down breakfast. "Oh! Good morning Yuuri, I made Tamagoyaki for breakfast." My heart ached with guilt knowing that I would never be able to eat the fantastic meals she made.
Victor arrived soon, I was standing at the doorway slipping on my shoes. "Hm? Yuuri did you have breakfast already?" He asked with a frown. "Uhm..yes?" The statement came out more like a question. "Then why is there an extra plate on the table?" He asked. "It's a for..for..m-my father!" I stated quickly. "Alright, I'll meet you later then. Please be careful." My heart fluttered as he flashed me his beautiful smile. "..I will." I nodded and grabbed my pack before heading out.
The ground was slick and slippery from the rain last night, the air was still ice cold sending sharp pains in my lungs with each breath I took, I jogged by the man who always fished on the docks and gave him a quick greeting. Stopping at the stairs that lead to the Hasetsu castle I took a couple of breaths and took out my phone to check up on Instagram.
With shaky breathes I scrolled through the many posts until one, in particular, caught my eye
I blushed deeply wondering how in the world he got this picture and when most of the comments were mostly of Phichit fanboying (Ex: OMG MY OTP!! Akgdinjbdlfi! Ermagherd XD) I turned off my phone and shoved it back in my pocket. With my cheeks flushed with embarrassment I continued with my exercises the cold wind causing more pain in my lungs and sending shivers down my spine, this was the first time I had gone out without having all the layers of clothes to hide the figure and shape of my body.
Once again reaching the top of the flight of stairs my phone buzzed, I took it out of my pocket and looked at the screen to see that Victor was calling. I answered it breathlessly. "Yuuri!~ I'm at the ice rink, if you don't arrive within three minutes I won't be coaching you today." He warned with a playful tone. "W-wait what!?" I yelled frantically. "The clock is ticking Yuuri." With those final words, he ended the call leaving the other line with obnoxious ringing.
I panicked and ran down the stairs almost tripping over my own feet, my heartbeat quickened and fear trickled throughout my veins and invaded my bloodstream. I pushed myself over the limit running until I could no longer feel my legs or face due to the cold wind, my lungs hurt like hell though. I smiled when I arrived at the steps of Ice Castle, a crowd of people surrounded the entrance.
I ignored it knowing that people must've taken notice of Victor's arrival to Hasetsu. "Finally! Please let Victor be in a good mood to coach me!" I muttered to myself pushing past the many fangirls and boys and reporters, I reached the glass doors only to have my jacket tugged on by one of Yuuko's daughters, the triplets were trying hard to hold back the massive crowd.
"Uhm Yuuri you might want to-" I quickly cut her off with an apologetic tone. "Look I'm so sorry I'm in a hurry, let's talk la-" A huge impact made contact with my back which sent me flying, I flew through the doors and painfully slammed against the counter in the lobby. I groaned in pain and opened my eyes that I shut due to the sudden act, I was met with the familiar frown, blonde hair, and emerald green eyes. "Well if it isn't the fat pig!" He spat.
I gasped and quickly stood up from the ground. "Y-Yuri Plisetsky..what are you doing here!?" I asked frantically. "I'm here to make sure that stupid Victor keeps his promise." He muttered angrily. "I seriously don't understand what he sees in you," he continued but then smirked mischievously. "But I bet if he were to know about your little break down after your last final he would want to leave." I shuddered at the horrible memory.
I frowned. "look it's not like I dragged him all the way over here, he's the one who came." I stated and walked toward the rink, Victor was gracefully skating on the ice and from the moment I looked at him I couldn't tear my eyes away from him. It was so beautiful and amazing. My feet moved on their own and I leaned against the wall of the rink. "Hose were some of his moves he was planning to use for this years season," Yuri explained as he stood by me.
I gaped in awe. "But since he decided to belittle piggy's babysitter I wonder if he'll let me have them, he's not as motivated anymore anyways." I quickly looked at him. "What do you mean not as motivated?" I asked he glared at me. "People aren't as surprised now to see Victor, they want something different something new..I could be that person if he just gave me a chance." He turned his attention back to Victor. "Hey, Victor let's have a chat!!" He yelled loudly, his voice echoed and bounced off the walls.
Victor turned and smiled. "Oh, Yuri it's nice to see you! Does Yakov know you're here?" He asked with a smile. "Shut up! I'm here for a reason and one reason only!" Yuri's face was red. "Oh let me guess, I didn't do something that I said I would?" Victor asked innocently. "You son of a-" A growl emitted from Yuri's throat, his teeth were grit and his hands were balled up into tight fists. "Uh oh, now that's not a happy face." Victor chuckled.
Yuri somewhat calmed down. "This is enough! Time to stop playing coach, I'm taking you back to Russia." He exclaimed in a demanding tone, my heart dropped at his words, would Victor really leave? Victor skated toward us and hummed in thought. "That won't work...ah! I know, how about a competition?" He suggested. A competition? Did that mean he really didn't care who he stayed with? Was our kiss nothing to him?
I looked at Yuri, a look of hatred was thrown to me. "You want me to choreograph with the pig? Yeah right!" He spat. "It's that or nothing," Victor stated. "...alright, I'm in." I nodded reluctantly. "Hmm...gah fine!" Yuri growled. I frowned knowing that today's practice would not happen, after regulating when and where we would hold the competition Victor and Yuri both chatted, Yuri even skated for a bit and the look on Victor's face as he watched him was absolutely heartbreaking to me.
I looked down, maybe Victor really didn't care about me, and that kiss probably didn't mean anything. Nor did the embraces or smiles, I felt a hand on my shoulder breaking me free from my shackles of thoughts. "Yuuri? Are you okay?" Victor asked worriedly. "Yes I'm fine, don't worry about it." I forced a smile, a bit of uneasiness rested at the bottom of my stomach.
I'm not okay.
He smiled and released my shoulder. "Do you think we can cancel today's practice? I have to show Yuri around the place." My heart faltered at his words. "Yeah, sure."
I feel sick.
I nodded and grabbed my belongings from the bench behind me. My skates felt like boulders now in my bag almost taking me down, I could hear Victor's smile as he called for Yuri. He really sounded and looked happy.
Oh dear god, I'm definitely not okay.
After pushing my way through the large crowd of people from the lobby and entrance I trudged back home, my parents and Mari were now busy handling the springs since Victor and Yuri had attracted millions of people so the only person to accompany me was Makkachin who I was happy to be with.
-------------------
Soon enough Yuri decided to stay here, after taking a bath my mother served us all pork cutlet bowls, of course, I had to eat something 'healthier' since Victor demanded it. When Mari arrived with a tray of dirty dishes she squealed when she spotted Yuri stating that he looked like her favorite character from a band or show she liked. "His name is also Yuri, now that's quite something." My father laughed. "What? Eww, that'll be too weird and confusing."
She hummed in thought. "Oh, I got it! You'll be Yurio!" She exclaimed proudly. "What! No way!" He growled. "Where will Yurio be staying Yuuri?" she asked. "Umma small room...was it the closet or the attic?" I frowned in thought. "What!? There's no way he'll be sleeping in there, I'll go clean up a room..you're coming with me." She pointed to me and walked off. "What, wait for Mari!" I chased after her.
I instantly froze at the sound of Victor's laughter. "Looks like you've made a friend Yurio." He said teasingly. "Shut up! Don't call me that!" Yuri exclaimed which only amused Victor more, my heart once again dropped as I finally realized something. I was such an idiot. I headed out telling my mom I would be out for a while, Makkachin was right behind me with his tail wagging happily.
And as I ran out I couldn't help but feel hopeless, the ice rink seemed like the only thing to calm me but I felt glum at the thought of leaving Makkachin. So I changed my route a bit my mind thinking back to Victor, my chest always tightened and my heart fluttered every time I looked at him. I...I think. I really am in love with my coach. I'm in love with Victor Nikiforov!!
