Prologue
I dashed as quickly as I could into the forest. "Stop! Stop!" I cried helplessly as I ran.
The guards pushed forward through the dense thicket. "This one," one of them grunted, pushing a branch out of his way. "Is much smarter than the last."
"Agreed," the other one said, tearing a spider web off his giant clunky metal armor. "The last one committed suicide on the first day. Didn't even try, that coward."
"What was the name, Dan? Don?" the first guard asked. "Doesn't matter anymore. Oof!" he sputtered, toppling onto a giant puddle.
I focused on getting myself across the ravine. As soon as I reached the other side, the guards wouldn't dare follow.
Across the ravine was an ancient forest in which held countless dangers. They wouldn't dare follow me there.
I tore a vine away from a tree and hurled it back at them.
It missed, and gently fluttered to the ground.
"Shoot." I muttered.
I glanced over my shoulder at the guards, like a mouse running from a cat.
A click.
A boom.
Nothing.
