They Were Roommates .1.

Sirius Pov.

Perched atop a tree drenched in sunlight, I surveyed my homeland. Towering trees stretched for miles, mountains embraced the terrain, and at its heart was a vast, warm lake, home to a tiny tribe of water fairies.

The anticipation of returning to school for my final year alongside my roommate was exhilarating, rivaling the excitement of completing my PhD. After earning my bachelor's degree in my sophomore year, I started my PhD studies ahead of schedule. My clinicals were a breeze, thanks to years of assisting my father. Though some might call me a child prodigy, I see myself as merely driven by passion. My happiness stems from helping people of all races, not just my own.

Settled on the edge of a sturdy branch, I shifted around the tree to find a more comfortable spot as the sun moved across the sky. With closed eyes, I reflected on my roommate, a thought that tempered my earlier enthusiasm. It was our final year as roommates; he would soon leave to lead his pack.

Raven has shared my living space for the past three years. At first, I found him unbearable and wrote him off as a simpleton. However, as time passed and we continued to share a room, I began to perceive the depth beyond his Alpha and warrior exterior. This insight stirred a longing within me; a wish to transcend the bounds of mere cohabitation. Despite this, I recognized that his eventual pairing with a mate would relegate me to a distant memory. Thus, I've silently nurtured an unspoken affection for two years.

To me, Raven always seems so beautiful and majestic, especially when bathed in sunlight. I knew that romance was off-limits, as he was a werewolf and I an albino snake, yet dreaming remained accessible to me. With my eyes closed, all things appeared achievable. In that realm, love, desire, and acceptance were tangible.

Every year, as we returned to school, it was reassuring to know he remained without a mate. Unfortunately, not all species were fortunate enough to form a mate bond. My species did not practice monogamy, which I understood made me an outlier in my family, not counting my albinism.

As a member of the esteemed Black Mambas, one of the most respected Snake clans, I am expected to uphold our reputation as royalty among our kind. This entails consistently demonstrating superiority over others, a requirement that subjects me to considerable pressure to achieve high standards.

I was expected to behave and not cause trouble, despite not being the successor to lead our den. That responsibility fell to my uncle, my father's brother, who was the current den leader and part of the direct lineage, indicating that my cousin would eventually assume leadership. My uncle also served on the council, making tough decisions. My father, a doctor in our den, has set a path for me to follow in his professional footsteps. To which I accepted faultlessly.

"Sirius," my father's voice called from below. As I opened my eyes, the setting sun greeted me. With a yawn, I began my descent from the tree, eager to meet my father in his hybrid form. Upon reaching the ground, I transformed into my half-human, half-snake form to greet him.

"Hello, Father," I greeted, yawning again, uncertain whether it was from hunger or sleepiness.

"It's time to hit the road. Did you have a good nap?" he inquired, as we headed towards our home.

Rubbing my eyes, I nodded and said, "I did," as I slowly followed behind him.

"Good, when we get back to the house, I want you to grab your things. We need to head to the teleportation gate posthaste," he stated. Nodding, I followed close behind him when someone grabbed my arm.

Glancing down, I recognized my younger sister Olivia. She was quite the spitfire, always managing to give our dad a headache with her wild and spontaneous antics. True to our mother's spirit, I thought with a smile. Bending down, I scooped her into my arms as she giggled, holding her close as we stepped into the clearing.

Suddenly, the path opened into a wide clearing where my dad's Red Jeep Wrangler was parked at the entrance. I opened the car door and helped my sister inside as she reverted to her human form. Slipping my oversized shirt over her head, I kissed her forehead, eliciting a giggle from her. After changing back myself, I donned my sweatpants and climbed into the car beside my sister. Olivia had become very attached to me since our mom passed away. My father, while a good man, often struggled to express his emotions. This left me to care for her while I finished school and assisted my father with his work.

He started the car and pulled out onto the gravel road, making his way back into town. Soon, I could see numerous houses and small homes, along with a diverse array of little shops as we delved deeper into the town. Many people stopped to wave at the sight of my dad's Jeep, and he waved back at them. As I soothingly rubbed Olivia's back, I gazed out the window, imagining Raven was here with me.

Raven's sun-kissed skin, jet black hair, and deep lavender eyes create a mesmerizing image before me. It has been three long months, and I yearn to see him, to feel his hand in mine, to taste his lips... and explore further. Oh, my mind wanders, imagining the delightful sensation of licking his abs, making him giggle before I slide down and...

"Sirius," my father yelled, snapping me out of my trance.

"Yes, Father," I replied politely.

"We're home," he announced, stepping out of the Jeep. As I peered outside, it was evident that we had indeed returned to the house where many other young adults my age anxiously waited for the gate to open. Gently picking up my sleeping sister, I opened the car door and followed my father into the den. Our Den, situated on the side of a mountain, was constructed several miles up its steep face. It was specifically designed for individuals with royal lineage, so it was sparsely inhabited, and its depths were limited. However, one had to tread cautiously; it was all too easy to become disoriented and meet a tragic fate. Sadly, a few of our guests had experienced that very outcome.

I navigated through the myriad of corridors and pathways until I arrived at my bedroom and swung the door open. Gently, I laid my sleeping sister on my bed and tucked her in, offering her a sad smile. It has been three months since our mother passed away, and she hasn't spoken a word since. Her usual spark has been extinguished by our mother's death. Only recently has she begun to show some expression, yet she still won't speak to anyone, not even to me.

As I pull down my sweatpants, I quickly change into my boxers followed by slipping into my worn jeans. Next, I put on my black shirt and hoodie, ensuring that my wallet and phone are securely tucked into my pockets. I eagerly slip into my brand-new Air Jordan 4 Retro SE shoes. Before leaving, I plant a final kiss on my sister's forehead, making sure she has her phone and the surprise necklace I recently purchased for her. Finally, I grab my duffel bag and head out the door.

As I hurried down the corridor, my attention elsewhere, I collided with someone. "Shit," I muttered, extending my hand to help them up, but upon recognizing the person, I retracted my hand as though scorched by a flame.

"There's no need for rudeness, babe," Dakota chuckled, rising to his feet and dusting off his clothes as if shedding invisible dirt. I shot him a piercing glare, feeling my power begin to stir within. With a concerted effort, I swallowed hard, reined in my burgeoning ability, and mustered a smile for my cousin.

"Sorry," I muttered, sidestepping him. I had no desire to spend another minute in this jerk's presence.

"Hey," he hissed, pulling me roughly to his side.

As his tongue shot out to lick my ear, he muttered, "Show a little respect, why don't you." A shiver of pure hatred ran down my spine. "Your dad sent me to come and get you."

Striking him in the stomach forced him to release me as he doubled over, gasping for air. I sprinted down the corridors, a shiver of revulsion coursing through me from his touch, his lick. Moments later, the sound of shoes pounding the floor echoed behind me. Just as I sensed him close on my heels, I reached the entrance of the Den where my father was waiting, and a wave of relief flooded over me.

With a forced smile, I moved to stand beside my father, glancing back to see Dakota a few steps behind. He was visibly angry, his eyes burning with fury, but then, unexpectedly, he smirked at me as my father pulled me away from the Den. Relieved to be away from him, my father escorted me to the portal along with the others; we had only ten minutes remaining before the gate would open. Thankfully, Dakota had graduated the previous year, so my final year promised to be blissful without him there.

"Excited." my father questioned, as we waited. Turning to look at him I smiled. "I am really excited." I admitted watching the timer count down the minutes until I could see Raven again.

"This is your final year, and when you return, I want to hand over my position as the Den doctor to you," my father declared, leaving me astonished. I had anticipated this moment would come, but not this swiftly. "I wish to dedicate my time to your sister; I've been distant, and it's impacting her adversely. Remember, you can always seek my help if needed. You're aware of that, aren't you?" As I turned to face him, I smiled and nodded in agreement.

"See you soon," he said, departing from the group with thirty seconds to spare. As I bounced on the tips of my toes, my heart immediately started pounding in my chest like a war drum. As the portal instantly opened, I stepped inside with a permanent smile soon spreading across my face.

Good evening,

It's me! I realize it's been quite a while, but I'm eager to give this another shot. I've had a story brewing in my mind for the past few weeks and I'm keen to bring it to life. I'll be submitting chapters weekly, every Saturday at midnight.

Thank you!
