No Regrets

"Can we talk?" I stand in front of Jamie nervously, hoping she'll hear me out. She looks up from her book in surprise, but once she recognizes it's me, her brows furrow, and a small frown tugs on her lips.

I've been texting and calling her for weeks only to receive radio silence. I know it's my fault, I lashed out at her when she didn't deserve any of it. This was my last chance. I would say my piece and if at the end of it she still chose to ignore me, I'd respect her choice, but if by any chance she let me in again, I'd hold on to her and never let her go again.

"Please?" I plead.

Her features soften and she nods motioning for the armchair across from her. I quickly sit down in case she changes her mind, my palms are sweaty and she hasn't said a word, just watches me waiting for me to talk. It was one of my favorite things about her, she would always just listen to me without interruption. Then offer her thoughts, not advice, just her own musings, but right now I hated it.

"How have you been?" I ask wiping my hands on my pants, trying to get rid of the clammy feeling.

"Good," she says bluntly, closing her book and placing it on the coffee table between us.

"Would you like your usual?" she stares at me and reaches for her cup, showing she's already got one.

The awkward silence stretches out between us before I hear her puff out a breath. "What do you want to talk about, Yoongi?"

Fuck, she's not going to make this easy. I'm just gonna have to spit it out!

"I'm sorry for what happened last time we saw each other."

After a few heartbeats, she nods her head, stands from her chair, grabs her book, and makes her way to leave. Just before passing me, she stops and places a hand on my shoulder.

"Thanks for apologizing, Yoongi. I hope you're doing better now," she offers me a tight-lipped smile before walking out of the cafe.

Aww, you really like her!

I hear Jellybean's teasing voice in my head.

I do. I'm sure you will really like her too, Jillian.

That conversation feels like it happened ages ago. And I never did get to let them meet. I was so scared trying to find the right moment that it all just slipped out of my hands before I could grab it.

I bolt from my chair and rush out of the cafe looking around for Jamie. I have no idea which way she could have gone, so I just decide to head towards the campus, calling her phone over and over.

That's when I hear it. The Harry Potter ringtone I know oh so well. I push my legs to move faster and I find her sitting on a bench under a lone tree, looking at her phone.

"Jamie, just wait! Let me finish," I gasp out, huffing and puffing as I try to catch my breath.

"Yoongi, there's nothing left to say. I get it. I know losing Jillian wrecked you. I forgive you, I just think it's better-"

"No, you don't get it! I was so lost finding out she died. I hadn't been in that headspace in so long, but it's not an excuse," I step in front of Jamie and tilt her chin up so she can look at me.

"I'm sorry, Jamie, truly. I'm so sorry for the words I said to you. I didn't mean it, none of it was your fault.

I was so angry at myself for not being there for Jillian that I blamed you, it wasn't right. She would be so angry at me for letting it get this far."

"You hurt me, Yoongi," Jamie says softly as the tears glisten in her eyes.

My heart clenches at her words and I have no idea how I can ease the hurt I've caused.

"I'm an idiot, Jamie. I'm brash and too honest for my own good. I let my anger get to me more often than not and have a hard time admitting I'm wrong.

But I was wrong, Jamie for it all. I miss you..." surprise is written all over her face and I finally take my chance. I pull her up off the bench and into my arms tightly.

"I miss you so much. This whole situation has just opened my eyes to how things can change in an instant. I don't want to waste any of our time. I miss our late-night chats, you correcting my writing and all of your baked goods," she laughs against my chest at my last statement and pulls away from me slightly.

"You just miss my cheesecake," she teases.

I shake my head and gently cup her face. "I miss you, Jamie. I'm sorry, please forgive me."

"I forgive you, Yoongi. I've missed you too," her hand cups mine and she leans in closer.

Just as I'm about to lean in, a horn honks and startles the both of us. Some teens pass by with their music blaring a Christmas song I know all too well.

Even as a ghost she's a damn troll.

I start laughing and Jamie looks at me confused.

"It's a great song," I grab her hand and pick up her book from the bench as I pull her along with me to my car.

"The hippopotamus song?"

"It was Jillian's favorite," I shrug and Jamie finally gives me one of her bright beautiful smiles.

"I wish I could have met her," Jamie says as I open the car door for her.

Me too.

I climb into the driver's seat nervously tapping on the wheel as I wait for the car to warm up. Jamie reaches over and stops my nervous habit.

"What are you thinking?"

"Do you want to come and meet my family on Christmas?"

A nervous giggle leaves her lips. "Uh, don't you think that's a little fast?"

I lace her fingers with mine and lean over the center console getting close. "Who cares? We have known each other for over a year."

Her breath hitches and her eyes flutter closed.

"Are you at least gonna kiss me first?" she asks breathlessly.

There's nothing I want to do more, but properly, not like this. So I lean closer and kiss her forehead. Her eyes open and I smile at her confused expression.

"I need to take you on a date first."

"You're doing everything out of order, Yoongi. Meeting your family before we have even had a date. What if I decide it didn't go well?" She giggles and gets comfy in her seat as I pull us out of the parking lot.

"Then I'll just have to keep taking you on them until you change your mind," I say with a grin I can't keep hidden.

"Sounds like a plan to me."

Okay, little coconuts. Here's a lil PSA from yours truly.

Yoongi has by far been my favorite character in this whole series, but sadly this will probably be the last chapter where we will follow his storyline for the rest of the book.

But don't be sad, I have big plans for him and once this book is finished I'd like to do a spin-off following Yoongi's life.
