I Hope U Dance
"Why don't I just go to the store and you stay with the girls?" I desperately plead as I watch her slip on her jacket and shoes.
"Jung Hoseok, you are over reacting," she says with a roll of her eyes. "I'll only be gone a few hours, plus Little Jelly is already fed and asleep. All you have to do is watch Arabella, it will be cake," she leans over and gives me a quick peck.
"But its two of them! What if they are both crying at the same time?"
"Hoseok, it will be fine. Just feed Arabella, change her, give her a bottle and she should lay down for a nap. I'll be back by the time they both wake up, okay?" I nervously nod and she smiles happily.
She ruffles Arabella's hair, gives me another kiss and rushes out the door to do her errands.
"Looks like it's just you and me, my Little Sun Drop," I squat down in front of Arabella and she instantly raises her pudgy arms waiting for me to pick her up.
"Gosh, you sure are getting heavy," I laugh as she babbles.
I take her into the kitchen with me and sit her into her high chair to keep me company while I prepare our lunch. I continue to talk to her about anything that comes to my mind as I make some grilled cheese sandwiches, when suddenly she screams.
I jump in fright dropping one of the sandwiches. "God, you scared me!" I clutch my chest and watch as she smiles happily, before she starts to scream over and over enjoying the sound of her own voice.
"You're gonna have to keep it down or you'll wake up Angelica," I playfully scold as I place small pieces of the grilled cheese on her tray.
I lean against the counter and munch on my sandwich. She sure ate like her daddy, with both of her tiny fists clutching pieces of her food. Her little fat rolls on her arms and legs made me laugh every time I saw them and her small round face smeared with food just melted my heart.
I could see so much of my two best friends in her. Her eyes were all Kookie, they were two large pools of chocolate, always looking around with amazement and her little button nose sat cutely in the middle of her chubby face. But her smile was all Jelly's, the way it completely transformed her face and made you want to smile back. Her ears poked out just like her mom's and the two little pigtails that sat at the top of her head were almost the same shade of her mom's hair.
I could feel myself tearing up and quickly wiped my face. I missed my friend, but I wouldn't continue to let our memories make me sad. They were happy and loving and that's how I would remember her forever.
Once we finish lunch, I scoop up Arabella and clean her up, give her a change and feed her a bottle. I'm laid with her on the couch and she just refuses to sleep, she fights my hold until I finally set her down in the playpen.
Angelica wakes up and I'm able to change her and feed her while Arabella peacefully plays. By the time little Jelly finishes her bottle, she's back to sleep in my arms, soft little hums leaving her parted lips. I cuddle her giving her soft kisses before laying her back in her crib.
When I waltz back into the living room, Arabella is no longer playing, instead she's standing. Holding the edge of the playpen and screaming again, only to laugh after each yelp.
After an hour of trying to get her to nap, I'm stressed. She keeps screaming, but she's not upset and won't lay down. I've tried to call Dani, but she hasn't answered any of my calls. At my wit's end, I finally dial Kookie.
"Oh my god, what's wrong? What happened?" Kookie rushes out not even saying hi as soon as he answers the phone.
"Nothing's wrong man, I just have a question," I say and hear him exhale a breath.
"Sorry, I was scared. It's just been one thing after another and I got scared..." I instantly feel bad for worrying him.
"No, no it's okay! I've already done everything I can do with Arabella and she just won't go to nap, what am I supposed to do? Just, like, hang out with her?" I anxiously wait for an answer.
The silence does nothing to soothe my nerves, I even check the phone to see if the call was disconnected, but nope, it's still going.
"Kookie?" suddenly his laugh burst through the other side of the phone.
"I mean, yeah, hang out with her man. She sleeps a lot less now. Do something that will make her tired, take her outside or paint with her or something," he says between fits of giggles.
"I've really got to go, I'm about to meet up with the lawyer with Joon. I'll be there to get her right after, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, I've got this. Good luck, see you soon," I say hanging up the phone.
I look back down at Arabella who's clinging to my pant leg as she holds herself up.
Hmm, Kookie suggested painting. I've got some lying around the house.
I quickly veto that idea, Dani would kill me if we made a mess with it. Instead, I pull out my phone to start playing some music through the home speakers. As soon as the bass gets going, Arabella starts to bounce, tugging my pants down slightly.
I grab her tiny hands and sit down in front of her, holding her up as I help her wiggle her tiny body to the rhythm. She laughs and smiles griping my fingers tightly.
"You know, my Little Sun Drop, your mom absolutely hated dancing. She had two left feet and was just as clumsy as Joon when she danced," I laugh remembering the first few of our meets and how angry she was when I tried to teach her new moves.
"But you have natural ability and I'm so going to nurture this!" I laugh scooping her up into my arms as we sway and bounce around the room.
When the song ends, I notice she's slumped against my chest, finally asleep. I take her into Angelica's room and lay her in the playpen.
Lying on the plush rug in the middle of the room, I pull out my phone to look for tumbling classes. Jelly couldn't dance to save her life, but I would make sure the hobby transferred over to Arabella. I could do it with both my girls.
