Chapter 31: I guess I just need a sign part 2

Hannah:

"You look real beautiful, Hannah," Louis said as we swayed to the music.

"Thanks," I muttered to him, looking away shyly on the ground.

"You don't have to be shy around me," he lifted my chin so I could look at his beautiful eyes. If I can't have Charlie, maybe I could start over with Louis. I know our pseudo relationship started as blackmail, but he's been good to me and a real sweetheart. We started to lean in, our noses touched but the microphone echoes real loudly stopping everything.

"Alright guys, I know you're having a good time but I have to interrupt," Lucy's annoying voice erupted in the mic, everyone's attention to her on the stage. She looked elegant: waves of her hair cascading to her shoulders, white strapless flowy dress and black strappy shoes. Linda and Edward came to our side; she looped her arm around me, we both smiled to each other.

"You ok?" she asked.

"I'm with my friends, I love you guys," I told her, appreciating them so much.

"We love you too, group hug!" She cooed and I'm in the middle of the hug as they squished me,

"Ok can't breathe," they let go and we listened to what Lucy has to say. She began to thank the parents for coming in tonight, especially Charlie's parents for the donation of computers. We all turned to them and give them a round of applause. Charlie's in my sight of vision to my right and I glanced at him for a minute, I'm about to look away but we locked eyes immediately. There's no expression on his face, but his eyes said it all: pleading and hopeful. He mouthed to me 'we should talk', gestured his two fingers for two minutes and I nodded in agreement smiling mentally.

"It's time to reveal the king and queen for the Halloween dance." The school does this every year and Lucy always wins with her flavor of the month.

"It's always her, what's the point of it being announced?" Linda said in a hushed voice.

I shrugged and responded "her way of showing that she runs the school," shaking my head as we waited for the winners. I didn't even vote this year, because there's point so I blew it off. It's not mandatory and she's not the president.

"For Autumn king is... Charlie Hepburn!!" Applause filled the room as the spotlight went to him. So much for our talk, I didn't even know he was nominated now I have to watch Lucy and him have their dance. Heading up to the stage to retrieve his crown, a tight smile on his face. I started to clap too and smile because his is so contagious.

"And now for the Autumn queen..." She's taking a real long time to open that letter delicately. Why is she anticipating this, get it over with. "Hannah Miller!" Shocked hearing my name my jaw dropped. I know for a fact that I wasn't in the running. Scattered applause began as the spotlight hit me and blinded my eyesight.

"Congrats girl, you didn't tell me that you were in the running!" Linda screamed as she shook my shoulder, me still in shock feet planted still.

"I wasn't," I simply said frowning.

"You know, I'm so happy for these two right now! They've been together for so long and now it's time for them to celebrate it with the school!" She's the only one clapping as we made eye contact. Wait did she just say what I think she said?! "Charlie has never been the kind to date, especially not me," she cackled "but for him to date someone like Hannah is beyond me. So let them have their spotlight dance, with a photo slide of their relationship," she stepped down and the song 'Fly' by Nicki Minaj and Rhianna played on the stereo. Someone placed the projector on and the crowd watching pictures of me and him, from our first date, me meeting him in his house, him taking me to the janitor's closet, the last time we met in the shack. Oh my God, so they've been watching us all this time.

"Louis you told me that you wouldn't tell anyone!" I turned to him, red faced and angry but he just stood there calmly.

"I didn't but Lucy found out," he defended.

"How?"

"She came over to my house when our parents had dinner and saw the pictures."

"She doesn't even know you."

"She's my cousin." Cousin? My eyes widened in surprise, so he knew her and kept this from me.

"I can't believe you would do this."

"I'm sorry but she paid me."

"What-"

"Han, is this true?" I forgot that Linda was there, seeing all this. her face disappointed and sad.

"Linda, please I can explain-"

"No, you lied to me!" she ran away, I tried to run after but Edward stopped me and said he'll take care of it. People still looking at the slideshow; I started looking for Charlie because he left the dance floor. Pushing Louis with my shoulder, I tried to find where Charlie went. As I reached the hallway, I heard footsteps squeaking the floor.

"How could you?" his was voice behind me, tone outraged.

"What?" I asked outraged too.

"I heard your conversation with Louis. I know you told them about you and me." Charlie said with rage.

"Why would I do that? I would never!"

"Yeah right so how did he find out?" he crossed his arms, waiting for my answer.

"I don't know, I guess we weren't careful enough. Maybe this is a good thing." I said trying to be optimistic.

"Good thing?! It's embarrassing that everyone found out, I don't even know how to explain it to my parents."

"So our relationship is embarrassing? That's what it was?" I asked with tears coming down my eyes.

"That's not what I meant." His face softened.

"Then tell me what you meant."

"It's ruined! I hate the fact that everyone knows my private love life of something so stupid."

"So what we had was stupid?!"

"Don't twist my words Hannah!"

"It's not just you Charlie in this situation It's me too. But you want to know the worst part of it all; people will worship you and look at me as some desperate loser!" I ran my hand down my face, thinking of the consequences. I'm gonna lose my friends, become the joke of the whole school, isolation.

"Hannah that's not gonna happen," he said softly as he reached for my hand but I pulled away.

"Yes it is! And you're just gonna stand there and do nothing! What happened to one day, Charlie?"

"You know what, fine. I'm done!" He threw his hands up and went a different direction. A lump filled in my throat and I couldn't hold it in anymore. I sobbed hysterically, knees falling to the ground and holding my face. People could probably hear me but I didn't care.

"Well, this is sad," I stopped for a moment to turned and look at the person behind that ugly voice.

"How could you do that?" I asked to Lucy with venom in my voice.

"I told you that I was watching. I run this school and you shouldn't have taken Charlie away from me." So that's what this is about, she's so petty.

"You want Charlie, that's what this was?! You just ruined him, you think he will want you now?!"

"Every war has its casualties, plus I could always get someone else. It's over bitch," she shrugged and smirked. My fingers are digging into my palms as I fists are hard as stone. I couldn't help myself, the bigger person should just walk away but the pettiness in me like her wanted revenge. I couldn't let her get away with this as she giggled, pushing her to the side hard she hit her back on the locker "Aww boo hoo!" She mocked as I left the school. Walking down the street, alone, cold and pissed thinking of ways to destroy her. I've been crying for at least ten minutes, the chill drying my eyes. I began to take off my shoes as I see I'm almost to my street. I crossed the road, looking down but I didn't see the car coming. And to think all my life that I've been looking both ways, I didn't this time.
