Chapter 22: Home alone, what shall I do?
What did Max mean by that? Why was he warning me about Louis? Why does he even care about me? Maybe he has a crush on me, ha! Yeah right and I can play the clarinet. It's so strange though- a car horn honked startling my thoughts I literally jumped out of my left shoe while crossing the street. "Sh@t," I muttered scared letting out a shaky breath I grabbed it quickly off the road.
Luck was on my side when it stopped an inch to my knees. Moving to the curb I wore my shoe kneeling on the pavement. "I'm so sorry! I was texting and-" she started out frantically. "Oh, it's you." My head snapped up to Lucy's bored face.
"Yes, me. Thanks for not running me over," I gave her a fake smile and stood up straight, brushing dirt off my jeans.
"You are welcome, shame though," I rolled my eyes at her sarcasm and turned away.
"Hey," her voice halted me.
"What do you want, Lucy?"
"I see you're getting real into Louis. The whole school's talking about it."
"Scared I might steal the attention from you?"
"The attention will always be on me, I'm dating one of the hottest guys."
"Who's my friend and you thought that he was gay."
"Ex-friend. He's better off without you; he told me he's so much happier with me."
"You probably brainwashed him to say that," I muttered to her.
"What?" She asked with an haughty tone.
"Nothing, Luce. Is there a point to this?"
"Just thinking why a guy a like Louis would like a girl like you? He could have any girl at the school." She crossed her arms. I did the same wondering why.
"Maybe he likes a girl with substance, you know with layers. Not superficial and just wants him for show."
"What are you saying?"
"It's all for show for you and Seth, I bet you don't even like him."
"Do I have to like him? I need arm candy and Charlie wasn't interested for some reason."
I had a blank expression on my face, "wow, you're something else."
"That's why I'm the most popular girl in school and I'm not gonna let some loser take that away from me," Lucy snobbily said with her hand on her chest proud.
"Why would I want to do that?" I raised my eyebrows curious.
"I'm watching you," she narrowed her eyes at me before stomping to enter her car. I moved out the way so she doesn't run over my toes, I glared at the back of her car, driving off to turn a corner shaking my head and began walking home.
Opening the front door, I saw the living room empty again. Where's my uncle? I dropped my bag by the door, closing it and then went to the kitchen to see if he was there but he wasn't. Heading upstairs, the guest room door cracked open and him on the bed on his phone. "Hi, uncle." I stood by the doorway.
"Hey, Hannah how was school?" He asked with interest.
"It was okay," I responded raising my shoulder.
"That's good. Any homework?"
"One worksheet." He nodded and then muttered some words on the phone then hung up, he stood up from the bed, "I talked to your parents today and they said they might have to stay another week there until the case is over."
I sighed in disappointment, because I thought it would be sooner. They already have been gone for almost a month, now they have to stay longer. Well, it's their job and it has to be done. "All right," I said simply.
"I'm gonna head out for a couple of hours. You good alone?"
"Yeah, drive safe." He ruffled my hair playfully and I scrunched my nose, hearing the front door slam shut notifying that he left. I puffed out my cheeks and exited the room and into mine. Home alone, what shall I do? Binge 'Girls' season two or 'The Newsroom' season two? Or maybe I can watch the whole first season of 'PLL', it was one of my fave seasons. So I decided to watch PLL and then 'Girls'. then I pull out my laptop to my Netflix account and start up the first episode of 'Pretty Little Liars', but I needed some food while I watch.
Heading downstairs to find something edible I settled for a turkey sandwich with mayonnaise, tomato, lettuce. Adding some chips, a pudding cup and a bottle of Arizona mango tea my phone began vibrating in my pocket I pulled it out. The caller ID reading 'Louis' hesitant to pick up and press the decline icon but I pressed accept instead. "Hey."
"Hi, are you doing anything right now? I could come over or pick you up to hang out," he suggested.
"Actually, I have a lot of homework and my uncle doesn't want me to leave the house," lying easily but I really didn't feel like seeing anyone tonight.
"Okay well, I was just wondering if you changed your mind about the dance. I would love for you to come with me." Should I risk it? Charlie said he might go with Madeline and I can't take my chances if he denied an idea of us going together.
"Yes, I would like to," I answered finally.
"Awesome! I can't wait. See you at school," he said excitedly.
"Okay," we both hang up. I texted Linda that I said yes to him and she texted me back a bunch of smiling emojis. Logging into my Netflix and started to enjoy my show with my meal. I think in the middle of the tenth or twelfth episode of 'Pretty Little Liars' I fell asleep, my plates and trash were on my dresser. I woke up wiping the drool off my chin and looked at the time, it's almost eleven pm. I took out my phone if anyone called me. Reading the notifications that Charlie called three times I pocketed my phone, deciding not to call him back since I was too tired for an argument. I'll talk to him tomorrow. I walked into my bathroom to take a quick shower, got into my pjs, did the dishes and went to bed early.
