I woke up to a cool hand on my forehead, and Zane looking anxiously down at me. "Hi," I said, in a daze, gazing at him with a stupid grin on my stupid face.
"Hello," he replied. "Do you feel very faint or light-headed?"
"Uhh," I thought for a moment. "A little. But I'm fine."
He nodded, seemingly ignoring me. "What is your name?"
"Anna."
"What is your favorite color, Anna?"
"Blue. Look, I'm fine." I tried to sit up but he put a gentle hand on my shoulder to stop me.
"You had just passed out, and certain precautions must be taken to ensure that no further physical damage ensues."
"Well thanks, but no thanks. I'm good now."
He shook his head. "Do you faint often?"
I would have been annoyed if it was about anyone else, but it was Zane, and my heart melted. "Not often, but I have."
"And do you have any pets?"
"No. Why are you here?" I was more curious than annoyed.
"We... do not know. Our apologies. Did we frighten you?"
"Yes- I mean, no," I sighed and looked at them, all staring down at me. They're all so beautiful. "Am I having a dream?" I looked into his eyes as I ask him.
"No," he shook his head puzzledly.
"Hehe..." I started to sweat. "There's no way this is real."
"We are real, if that is what you mean," he said. "What do you mean?"
"You guys are..." my voice trailed off, "all I've ever wanted," I whispered so they can't hear.
"Huh?" Kai said.
"I'm a big fan."
"Of course," he rolled his eyes.
I was confused by his reaction. "What?"
"Oh, nothing, it just seems like everyone we meet is... crazy about us," Kai sighed.
"Well trust me, most people around here are not," I said. "Not in a bad way. Anyway I promise I won't be annoying. Well, try not to be," I grinned again.
"Well, you can't be much more annoying than me. Hahaha," Jay said.
"You're not that annoying," Cole mumbled to Jay. Did he mean I was more annoying?
"No, he's definitely that annoying," Kai said.
"So... how did you all get here?" I asked.
"That's what we're wondering," Cole said.
"Nope, we just poofed and were here," Jay says. "Well, we were sleeping, then we just woke up- yeah. Wait, are we in a dream?" he turns to the others.
"No," Zane shakes his head. "That would be impossible."
"We already covered this," Kai glared at Jay.
"I wasn't sleeping," Cole stated. "I was there one second, and the next I was here."
"Well we're very sorry, we did not at all mean to intrude," Zane apologized.
"It's totally fine," I say, casually shooing my hand at them.
"Where are we exactly?" Zane asked, helping me stand up and putting his arm around my back to support me.
"Umm..." I tried processing the question but was distracted by the feeling of his arm around me. "We are in Nashville," I finally said.
"Where's that?" Jay asked, and then I realized that I wasn't sure how to keep it from them that they weren't real.
"I have no record of that name in my databases," Zane had to say.
"Well we're really far away from Ninjago, and this is a really... unimportant town, so I figured you haven't heard of it. But that's okay."
"Oh. Ok," Jay said.
"Hm," Cole hummed.
Zane blinked and looked like he was thinking. "How far away are we from Ninjago?" Great. Just the question I needed.
"Well, actually... kind of on the other side of the world." Which was the truth, if we were saying it's in Japan or somewhere.
"Oh," they all said at once.
"Yeah," I said nervously, biting my lip.
"Do we even have money for airplane tickets?" Jay asked.
"No," Zane and Cole said simultaneously. Kai groaned.
"Well, I can help you get back," I said. "I mean, I can help pay for the tickets."
"Really?" Jay asked and all their faces lit up.
"I can try," I shrugged. Well, I could at least try to figure out how they got... here. I swallowed back tears.
"Thank you," Zane said, Jay nodded, and Cole smiled gratefully.
"No problem. And you guys aren't on a mission right now, are you?"
"Fortunately, no," Zane said.
"So... can we hang out?" I asked, hands fidgeting, one leg pointing behind the other. "Please?"
"As long as you can help us get back to Ninjago, then sure," Kai replied. "What do you have in mind?"
"Maybe... get dinner? My treat," I offered.
"Yeah!"
"Sure."
"Yay food! I'm hungry."
"Then could we... maybe, like, see a movieafterwardsorsomething?" I suggest.
"Why not," Kai shrugged.
"I guess," Cole sighed. Nods from the other two.
"Well only if you guys want to." I looked from one face to the next, trying to read their emotions.
"No, it's fine," Cole said.
"Yeah, it sounds fun. Let's go," Jay smiled.
"Let's go." We headed to my car and got in, but as soon as I put my hands on the wheel I figured I would be too excited to drive safely. "Actually, Zane, can you drive?" I ask him. "I don't think I can right now."
"Of course," he replied with a slight smile. I returned a grateful one as he took my seat. I got in the passenger seat even though I really wanted to sit between two of them in the back. Obviously. But I need to be able to give Zane directions best.
"So where do you guys want to eat?" I asked, turning to look at the three crammed in the back row.
"Noodles?" Kai said.
"Pizza!" Jay said.
"I don't care," Cole said.
"Umm, Zane?" I turned to him, hoping for a tiebreaker.
"I do not have a preference. What do you want to eat?"
Then I realized people should not see Zane because he is made of metal. "I don't really care, I'm not that hungry, but let's just go through a drive-thru, does someone else want to drive?" I said very quickly.
"Why? I can drive." Zane said.
"I know, it's just... people that don't know about you won't know what to think that you're a robot," I explained. "We don't have robots here."
"Oh. Well in that case, who else will drive?" he turned to the back row.
"I can," Cole said as he unbuckled and opened the door.
"Yayy!" I tried not to sound too excited to have Cole next to me. I gave him the directions to Red Panda and we headed for town.
"So... are you guys allowed to tell me your most recent mission?"
"That is classified information," Zane replied.
"Poo," I said with a huff. Then an idea struck me. "It didn't have to do with orange snakes and time travel, now would it?"
"Uhh how'd you know?" Jay asked, and Kai slapped a hand over his mouth to silence him.
"Ha. Knew it. Don't worry, I'm not gonna tell anybody," I told them playfully, then laughed to myself. Any Ninjago fan knew that. Hands of Time was the latest season.
"How'd you know?" Jay whispered loudly as he leaned forward to me.
"I mean who doesn't?" I laughed.
Kai and Zane exchanged a look behind Jay's back, and Kai shrugged.
Then I remembered what movie was coming out today and it seemed like the fates had aligned.
"I think I know what movie we should see," I told them excitedly.
"Which one?" Jay asked with the same high energy.
"The Lego Ninjago Movie," I spat out before doubling over laughing, tears streaming down my face. I kept laughing and it briefly turned into sobbing before I finally sat up, wiping my face.
"You good?" Cole asked, looking at me.
"Yeah, I'm good now. Just emotional breakdown," I shrugged sarcastically.
"Oh, ok." He still looked at me, concerned.
I wanted to tell him I love him and I almost did.
"What about this movie?" Jay asked.
"Oh, that. Yeah it's out today and we should totally see it!" Hopefully it's a good idea.
"What's 'lego'?" Jay asked
"A branch of toys people overuse to make money, and they're using you with it for that purpose."
"Oh," Cole sighed.
"Yeah..."
So we decided to go to the movie and see how it is; hope nothing bad happens. Finally we got to the drive thru and the best thing was watching them order and then getting to pay for them.
I love them so much.
And I wanted to hug them, but sadly that would be too weird, so I was just trying to build a relationship with them so maybe they'd like me (as a friend- well, except Cole).
