Chapter 7

A/N: As soon as I post this chapter, I'm going to post a part that discusses the future of this story, so please be sure to read it. Anyways, enjoy Chapter 7!

Sabre yelled as the ground rushed up to meet him. Just a moment ago, he had been sprinting towards the staircase when the ground beneath his feet evaporated into thin air. The resulting impact with the ground resulted in him losing several hearts. His real heart was racing as he regained his bearings. Falling from a height this tall was always nerve racking in normal Minecraft on the PC, but in VR, the experience was ten times worse because it tricked the player into thinking that they were actually falling.

He looked up, noticing Galaxy Steve, Blue Steve, and Mind Steve all hovering in the air. Seeing Mind Steve flying was surprising because out of the original colored Steves, he had only previously seen Red, Blue, and Green Steves have the ability to fly. He searched for Purple Steve and Yellow Steve, spotting the two on the ground battling their respective targets. Because of Steves' ability to not take fall damage, they must not have been shaken by the fall and got right to attacking their opponents.

Purple Steve spared a glance in Sabre's direction. "Go, Sabre!"

Sabre took off, heading away from the battle before hiding in the shade of a building. "Sorry that I haven't been commentating," he apologized to the viewers he knew would be watching in the future. "There's just been so much going on and so many Steves surrounding me. Only Rainbow Steve knows about me making YouTube videos for you all, the Sky People. If I tried narrating, they would have thought that I was crazy, just like what happened earlier in Blue Steve's office when I pointed out that Purple Steve talks in chat."

"I really wish that I could just stand around and watch this fight like I usually do. Whenever Steves fight like this, I'm there most of the time only for moral support because there's nothing else for me to do. But now, I actually have a job, and a really important one at that. Of course I get one when a really epic battle between several Steves occurs." He peered around the corner of the building, noticing the results already being produced by the chaotic battle. "Looks like there's slime, probably Plague Steve's doing. The water's Blue Steve. Obsidian... is that what Galaxy Steve can do?! He didn't ever explain his powers after he got his memories back."

Sabre shook his head slightly. "No, I need to get back on track. I have to be focused on destroying the Plague Shrine." He surveyed the town while also trying to remember the layout he noticed when first approaching Stevetopia. "From what I can recall, Stevetopia has tall watchtowers in each of the four corners of the walls. Maybe I'll be able to see the Plague Shrine from there."

Sabre looked around and was just barely able to see the parapets of the walls peeking over the buildings. He ran in that direction, making his way past the terrified Steves of the town hanging out in the pathways, all of them unsure if they should get out of the town or help defeat the intruders. Eventually, the town walls came into view, towering over the player rushing towards them.

Sabre finally made it to the base of the wall closest to him. He stopped for a moment and observed the area around him. "It looks like the closest watchtower to me is the one on the right." He ran in that direction, making it to the watchtower and running up the spiral staircase inside. Once he made it to the top, he scanned the horizon, looking for any sign of mossy cobblestone or bright green slime.

"If only Optifine was compatible with VR," Sabre sighed. "It would make it so much easier to spot the shrine from a distance." He surveyed the land for a small bit longer before coming to the conclusion that the Plague Shrine wasn't on this side of the town. He turned around and ran across the wall to the next tower, observing the land out on that side. Sabre groaned, not seeing anything for the second time. "Next tower!" he exclaimed, running along the next wall-walk.

As he approached the third tower, Sabre noticed that one of the battles had drifted away from the center of town and now resided close to the wall he was currently running across. Uncomfortably close. He was literally right next to the place where Galaxy Steve and Void Steve were duking it out. "Please don't notice me, please don't notice me!" he muttered under his breath. All of a sudden, there was a huge sphere-shaped gap in the wall that had taken out some of the ground as well. Sabre ground to a halt before he could run off the edge. "...He definitely noticed me."

Sabre considered his options. He could try to build across the gap, but it was very likely that Void Steve would destroy his bridge before he could make it across. It would be so much easier if he could just summon a pathway, but he had no way of doing so. Or did he? He looked over to where Galaxy Steve was, who was trying to take advantage of the fact that Void Steve was distracted by the player. "Galaxy Steve! A little help, please?"

Galaxy Steve glanced his way. "Sure thing, Sabre!" A ball of obsidian appeared out of nowhere to patch the hole in the wall, and Galaxy Steve turned back to his opponent. Void Steve looked like he was going to destroy the obsidian as well, so Galaxy Steve did the only thing he could think of.

"Hey, Void Steve! Stop being such an angsty teen and take your hood off for once in your life!"

Void Steve snarled in frustration and briefly refocused his attention back on the sandwich-obsessed Steve. Sabre took the opportunity and ran across the ball of obsidian, reaching the other side safely and continuing on. By the time Void Steve thought to look back, the player was long gone.

Sabre was at the third watchtower, scanning the land for any hint of a Plague Shrine, when he heard a ton of lightning. "He must have noticed that I left," he commented. "I better hurry before Galaxy Steve loses his attention." Sabre sighed. "I can't see anything from here. Onto the next tower!"

He began his journey to the last tower. This part of the wall he was running on was close enough to one of the other battles that he could watch it as he went by. From the slime blocks appearing everywhere, Sabre could tell that it was Plague Steve. He tamped down on his temptation to taunt the evil Steve, as he wouldn't want another repeat of what happened with Void Steve slowing him down.

After Sabre got to the tower, he scanned the land outside of the wall. Not noticing anything of note, he was about to turn around and figure out a Plan B when he noticed something out of the corner of his eye. Something neon green.

Sabre looked out over the land again. His eyes hadn't deceived him. Something neon green was decently far away, in a clearing in the middle of the surrounding forest. "Guys, that looks like slime blocks! That has to be where the Plague Shrine is!"

He ran down the watchtower's spiral staircase, bursting out through the door it had at ground level. He went up to the wall and ran alongside it until there was a gap caused by one of four gates the town had. Sabre went through the archway and almost ran into a Green Steve that was standing there, but he managed to stop himself. Confused, he looked around and saw that there was a crowd of Steves milling about. Curious as to the cause, he jumped, trying to see over the gathered Steves. He didn't see anything strange...

Wait.

That was the problem.

He didn't see anything!

There was supposed to be a bridge there. Sabre remembered that there were four grand bridges that went above the moat and served as the entrances to the town, but there was nothing here. "Void Steve must have destroyed the bridge," Sabre muttered to himself, conscious of all the Steves nearby. "I'll need to build across."

Sabre pushed his way through the crowd, apologizing as he went. When he had finally made it through the gathering to the other side, he was about five blocks away from the edge of the moat. Standing there at the very edge was a Blue Steve who seemed to be standing guard. He noticed Sabre's approach and spoke. "Turn back, the bridge is destroyed, there's no way to cross."

Sabre showed off some cobble that was in his inventory. "I can build across, trust me."

The Blue Steve seemed to hesitate for a second, then relented. "Fine, but be careful. It's a long fall." He stepped back to give Sabre room and disappeared into the crowd.

Sabre walked up to the edge and crouched, placing a block on the edge as he did so. "It's just like Bed Wars," he joked as he slowly made his way across the moat. "Now I just have to look out for fireballs."

The process was slow because, unlike many other Minecraft YouTubers, Sabre didn't know how to speedbridge, especially while he was in VR. But he eventually made his way across and stepped on land once again. He looked up to see all the Steves on the other side and waved his arm, signaling that it was safe to come across. He then turned and entered the forest, the thick and tightly packed trees blocking out much of the light.

"I think the shrine was in this direction?" Sabre said as he walked, unsure if the direction he chose was the right one. "If I have trouble finding it for some reason, I can just build up and look around, though that may not be the smartest idea. Someone could see me."

After about two minutes, more light began filtering through the trees. "The clearing must be right here!" Sabre exclaimed, beginning to sprint as he did so. As he cleared the line of trees, however, he ground to a halt before quickly ducking behind one of them.

He had managed to find the clearing the shrine was in.

But he also managed to find twenty infected Steves guarding it.
