(29) Our End (Final)

                       Nick's POV
There was a distant ringing in my ears, and a painful throbbing in my head as I slowly awoke. I groaned, my lungs burning from dust as I inhaled deeply. I let out a cough, slowly opening my eyes. My vision was blurry, but once it cleared, I scanned the area around me. My eyes widened as I saw that I was surrounded by heavy rubble, some of which had piled onto my foot, sending fresh waves of pain spiraling up my leg. I clenched my teeth, pulling my leg slightly, only to gasp in pain.

I let out a quietly growl as I began shoving the rubble above me, trying to free myself. I grunted as the rubble above me shifted slightly, causing debris to sprinkle lightly onto my raven-black hair. I clenched my teeth, pushing harder against the rubble, but soon found it to be a worthless waste of energy. I was weak and tired, and the rubble was heavy and stiff, it was near impossible for me too free myself. I quietly cleared my throat, then I hoarsely called out, "Hello?" I got no answer, "Hello!?" I called out louder, and this time, I got an answer.

"Nick!?" A familiar, muffled voice called from above me. "Cory! Down here!" I called, pushing on some of the rubble above me once more. "Okay, one second, we'll get you out of there, Nick!" Cory called down too me. I smiled slightly, and I heard Cory call out to someone, then some muffled shuffling. Then, a moment later, I was blinded by a bright light, causing my eyes to close. I blinked a few times, my eyes adjusting to the unfamilar light. I looked up, seeing Cory and Dawn standing above me, they were bleeding, and had some cuts on them, but they seemed relieved.

Then, I noticed the bright blue sky, and the shining sun. My eyes lit up, it's been so long since I'd seen it. Cory walked down too me, holding his hand out to me. I smiled, taking it, and he pulled me too my feet. Though, as soon as my foot hit the ground, I gasped, nearly falling. Cory grabbed me, keeping me upright as I clentched my teeth in pain. "You're foot's hurt?" Cory questioned. I nodded slightly, "Yeah, I think it's broken..." I admitted through gritted teeth. Cory nodded in understanding, helping me over too a nearby, barely standing, wall. I carefully leaned against it, and slowly slid down it's cracked surface, sitting against it tiredly. Dawn glanced at me, his headphones cracked and barely staying on.

"Tell us if you here anyone, please..." Dawn said before turning away, and continuing to dig through the rubble. I frowned, feeling uselss. I tried getting up, but once again fell down. I let out an annoyed grumble, then I paused, a strange noise reaching my ears. It sounded like rubble shifting and cracking. I looked over, and few feet beside me I saw the rubble shufting, as if someone was pushing on it. I heard some quiet grumbles, and the rubbled was shived again, but this time, I watched as it collapsed more onto the person.

I quickly looked over in Cory and Dawns direction, "Guys!" I called. "Nick?" A muffled voice near me questioned, and I looked over towards the pile of rubble, "Tommy??" I questioned. Then, I looked back forward, seeing that Dawn and Cory were running over too me. "Find someone?" Cory asked hopefully, and I nodded, pointing at the area that I had heard Tommy. "Tom's in there..." I said, and Dawn and Cory looked at each other, before running over and helping each other lift the rubble off of Tommy. As soon as the rubble was gone, Tommy crawled out of the hole with a relieved cough. He panted a bit, before looking at us, "Thanks guys..." He said. His mask was cracked, and he had a deep cut in his cheek.

He stood up, a bit shaky, "Where are the others?" He questioned. Cory sighed, "Still buried in rubble...We're trying to find them, but Nick can't walk, and Dawn and I can only do so much..." He admitted. Tommy looked around,  taking his mask off, revealing his sparkling, determined blue eyes. "I'll help. We've been through too much for it too end here. This will not be our end." Tommy said. Then, coughing filled the air, and we looked over just in time too see a large piece of rubble get pushed over, and Jon and Ashlie crawled out. Everyone, except me, immediantly ran too their aid. I clentched my teeth, slowly attempting to stand, using the wall for support. I glanced at the ground near me, seeing a short pole on the rubble. I smiled a bit, carefully reaching down and grabbing it.

I used it as a walking stick, painfully making my way over to my injured friends. Jon was coughing lightly, while Ashlie held a hand to her head. She slowly looked around at us, "Where's Uni...?" She questioned, and Jon looked around nervously aswell. "We....Haven't found him yet..." Cory admitted. Ashlie shakily made her way to her feet immediantley, "W-We have to find him!" She exclaimed, helping Jon up. We all agreed, spreading out to try to find our injured friend.

We searched for what felt like an hour, finding many bodies of creatures, which we set aside. Then, finally, "Uni!" Tommy exclaimed, and I looked over immediantly, just in time to see Tommy carefully pulling an unconcious Uni from the rubble. We all ran over, well, limped, in my case, to Uni and Tommy. Tommy carefully laid Uni on the ground, and I noticed that blood was dripping heavily down his face. "It looks like he got hit in the head pretty hard..." Ashlie said, then, too our suprise, Uni shifted with a groan.

                           Uni's POV
There was a quiet ringing in my ears, and my body had a heavy, numb feeling. I felt a strong, radiating pain, but I couldn't place it's origin. Everything was black, but I could bareky make out a feeling, as though I was being dragged somewhere, then everything was still again. "....looks....h...hit...head...hard..." I was able to make out through my eradic, phasing, muffled hearing. Are they talking about me? I wondered. Seems like it. Another voice answered, and I stiffened a bit. Duni...? I wondered, suddenly growing a painful headache. I'm here too! Another familiar voice added, yeah, sadly enough. Another voice teased. I shifted slightly, groaning as my headache and confusion grew.

G-Guys...? I questioned in my head. Yep! We're back! Yeah, I guess something happened. Ricky said. Now Uni, you need to wake up...You're friends are worried... Uni~Chan ordered, and I took her advice. I slowly forced my eyes open, blinking in the bright light. "Uni...?" Cory's voice questioned, "Can you hear me?" He asked. I nodded weakly, opening my eyes again, seeing his face through blurry, slowly clearing, vision. When my vision cleared completly, I saw Cory smiling softly at me. He pulled me into a hug, "I thought I lost you again..." He whispered, and I smiled, hugging softly back. "I'm not going anywhere..." I retorted softly. "Guys...Look." Nick suddenly said, making me look in his direction slowly. He was pointing at something, and when I slowly followed his gaze, my eyes lit up. The outside... Uni~Chan voiced my thoughts. There was a large hole in one of the walls, and out lf the hole, we could see blue sky and green trees. Cory helped me up, and we all slowly walked to the opening. We paused when we got too it, assuring that it wasn't just a sick truck of our minds. "Freedom..." Tommy said with a smile, slowly walking through the hole, and we all followed. We looked around, savoring the sweet, colorful sights that we'd all missed so much.

We walked around for a few minutes, before I heard a familar sound...A car engine. Actually, many car engines. "Someone's coming..." Dawn said quietly. "No-dip." Cory retorted sarcastically. We all nervously watched the road that ran from the trees. Then, my geart sank as I saw several police cars, and big, white, Asylum vans driving through the woods. They were here to bring us to another Asylum. We knew there was no point in running, and as the cars parked, and police got out, aiming their loaded guns at us, I fought Duni back, standing strongly. The police men glared at us, "No sudden movements!" One ordered. Then, they noticed Dawn. "We have a captive!" One yelled, and Dawns eyes widened, "I'm not-" He began, but he cut himsekf off, looking at the ground. The police officers cocked theur guns, "Release the captive, or we will shoot!" They screamed, and I glanced beside me, seeing that some of the police officers were inspecting the Asylums remains. "Now!" The police oficer yelled again, but what broke my heart, is how Dawn wasn't even standing up for us. He was just staying silent, "You have until the count of 3!" He yelled. "1...2..." We all shuffled asude, allowing Dawn to slowly, carefully walk away from us. Traitor... Duni hissed, making my heart sink. Dawn walked uo to the police officers, and one quickly grabbed him, asking him questions.

"Sir! There are serveral dead bodies! It seems like many of them were killed before the building collapsed!" One police officer from behind us reported. The offucer glared at us, "You filthy sickos!" He spat. "It's not what it looks like-" I began, but I was cut off by an officer, "SILENCE!" He yelled, then he looked at the other officers. "You know what to do." He said, and the others nodded, rushing towards us. We were eached grabbed by an officer, who proceeded to put cuffs around our wrists, and drag us towards the laege, white Asylum trucks. "We just saved your sorry butts, believe it or not!" Tommy screamed, but the ifficers ignored him. "They'll be taken too the nearest Asylum location." One of the police officers said. We all struggled against the officers, and for a split second, I made eyes contact with Dawn, who was getting into police car. His eyes were large, and sad, but as soon as ge made contanct, he broke it, looking at the ground. One by one we were each thrown into the back of the large truck.

As soon as we were all in the truck, an officer slammed the door, and we heard the click of the lock being put into place. Cory immediantly slammed into the door with a growl, then pulled away, slamming inti it again, the cuffs still around his wrists. He continued with his fruitless attempts of escape, and I heard Tommy sigh. "Cory...Just stop..." He saud quietly, but Cory didn't listen, he just continued with his attempt. "Cory. Stop." Tommy said louder, but ince again, Cory ignored him. "CORY, STOP! CAN'T YOU SEE IT'S USELESS!" Tommy screamed hopelessly, making Cory stop and look at tje older boy in suprise. Tommy paused for a moment, looking down at the ground, "It's over...They got us..." He sighed. Everyone became silent, and the air grew thick with tension. We felt the truck lurch as it began driving, and we all glanced at each other. "Well...Since these are our last hours together...How about we make the most of it...?" Jon questioned, and we all glanced at each other. I smiled softly, "Alright..."

                        3rd Person POV
As the group rode together towards their inevitable torture and separation....They cried together, they laughed together, they joked around, and they cherished each others company. Because even through all the laughs, giggles, and jokes, none of them could forget about that one simple fact ...That they would never see each other again... This was destined to be the last moments that the group would share together. And as the tires to the truck screeched, and the car lurched as they stopped at the new Asylum...The group all enchanged cries, showing their unending faith and bondages to one another. And as they were each pulled away from one another, they all fought. They fought to stay together,  to be free together, to not be alone, to savor every last detail of each other. And as the helpless cries of their friends names faded into nothingness,  the Asylum was filled with a new atmosphere of grief and sadness...
