(10) Cannibalistic Orgins
Jon's POV
I was chatting with the others when the door suddenly opened and MW walked in with Tommy. Tommy looked a little embarrassed as he walked into the room and stood next to Nick. MW looked at a of us, then her eyes landed on me. She smiled, "Your turn." She said, and I hesitantly walked towards her. She smiled kindly and began walking down the hall. I followed her quickly down the hall, and we soon arrived at a room, which she walked into and sat on a chest across from the bed. I walked in, cracking the door closed behind me and I sat on the bed across from her.
She cleared her throat, then she began, "So, Jon, why are you here?" She began. I looked down, "I'm a cannibal." I said simply. She seemed hesitant to answer, but then she smiled softly. "I suppose that isn't TOO bad." She said comfortingly. I shrugged, "Compared to some people here, it seems like nothing." I replied quietly. She cleared her throat again, "So Jon, do you have any fears?" She questioned. I thought for a moment, "I'm scared of the dark, and being alone..." I murmured. She nodded in understanding, "Why the dark?" She questioned.
I hesitated, "Well, when I was younger..." I trailed off, and it took me a moment to realize how close I was to crying at the thought of my bitter past. MW gave me a sympathetic look, noticing my emotions. She thought for a moment, then she spoke, "Why loneliness?" She questioned. I was quiet for a moment, "I was alone for awhile when I was younger, and it was....Traumatizing, to say the least." I said simply. MW nodded, "I'm sorry to hear that..." She said sympathetically. She opened her mouth to ask something, but she seemed hesitant to ask it. Then she asked the question that I had been dreading.
"What caused these cannibalistic habits?" She questioned, and I stiffened. "W-what do you mean?" I questioned, playing dumb. She looked let in the eyes, and I felt her gaze pierce my soul. "You know, how did you become a cannibal?" She questioned. As I thought about the answer to the question, I felt a warm liquid drip down my cheeks, and I was surprised when I realized that I was crying. MW noticed this immediantly, and she gasped, "Oh Jon, I'm so sorry, is that a sensitive subject?" She asked worriedly. I nodded a bit, "You don't have to tell mean if you don't feel comfortable-" She began, but I cut her off. "No, I want to tell you..." I said softly, "I've never told anyone before..." I whispered. She nodded in understanding, "Are you sure?" She questioned, and I nodded. She leaned back, "Take all the time you need..." She said comfortingly. I nodded, taking a deep breath before beginning. "It all started when I was 9, and I still lived with my parents..."
*Flashback*
(This is gonna be really messed up and kinda gross, so if you don't like that kind of stuff, then skip the italics...And don't say I didn't warn you...)
I stood by the stove with my mother, she was showing how to cook the most perfect cookies that I had ever tasted. I was none, and my parents were very popular around the town, mainly for their excellent dishes, and the small restaurant that they owned downtown. It was called, 'The Jesters Hat'. My parents always told me that one day the restaurant would be mine, and I was SO excited. I LOVE cooking! My mom looked down at me with a soft smile, "Okay my little jester, now you take the cookies out of the stove." She exclaimed, and I nodded in understanding, grabbing my oversized ovenmits and putting them on. My mother opened the oven, and I reached in, pulling out a tray of fresh, steaming cookies. I smiled as I smelled their sweet smell, and my mother giggled at my delighted expression.
I sat the cookies on the counter to cool, then I heard the front door open. I looked and my father walked in, he sniffed the air and an excited grin spread across his face. "I smell cookies!" He exclaimed, and I giggled. He joined my mother and I in the kitchen, and as he walked past me, he ruffled my green hair, making me giggle. He walked to my mother and kissed her on the lips, then looked at the cookies. "Ooh, those look amazing!" He exclaimed. I smiled, "Jon helped mean make them." My mother said, making me smile brighter. My dad looked at meeting proudly, "You're getying better at cooking! Keep it up!" He said. I smiled, nodding. My mother smiled brightly at us, then she glanced at the cookies. "Let's let these cool down." She said, and she began walking out if the kitchen, and I nodded, following her. She walked to the living room of our small, brick home and sat down on our small couch. I sat next to her, and my dad sat next to me.
After a few moments, the house suddenly began to shake a bit. I looked around in confusion, and so did my parents. The light shaking began to escalate quickly, soon becoming rapid, strong shakes. I jumped to my feet, but the earth lurched beneath me, causing me to fall. My parents jumped the their feet, only to fall aswell, right next to me. I cried out in fear as peices of ceiling began to fall around me. The earth roared as the earthquake began to grow stronger. I made it to my feet and began quickly running to the door, stumbling as the earth moved beneath me. "Jon!" My parents cried, but I didn't stop. Fear overran my mind, and I couldn't get myself to stop. My parents steadied themselves on their feet, and began to run towards me. I froze as I heard a loud crack fill the air, and my mother screaming, "JON!" was the last thing I heard before everything went black.
Ringing filled my ears as I began to regain consciousness. My head hurt, and so did my body. I took in a deep breath, but immediantly began coughing as the dust-filled air reached my lungs. I gasped and coughed, and my lungs burned. I coughed one last time, then I decieded to open my eyes. I slowly opened my eyes, and the world around me was dark, and my vision was blurry, and thick dust swirled in the air around me, burning my eyes. I blinked a few times, and as my vision cleared, my body stiffened at my surroundings.
It was dark, and dusty, but the most noticable thing was that I was surrounded by rubble...The rubble of my house. Large piles of brick and rock laid around me, along with wood from my roof. Large pieces of the brick wall surrounded me, trapping me in a small area, much like a pyramid. Small holes in the rubble let in small bits of sunlight. It wasn't a lot of light, but it allowed me to see my surroundings better. I sat up, which sent a wave of pain crashing through my head. I groaned and brought my hand to my head. Then, I felt a warm liquid drip down my forehead, and I wiped it with my fingers, bringing them down to investigate. When I looked at my fingers, my heart seemed to skip a beat. A familiar crimson liquid stained my dust-covered, pale fingers. I stared at it, wondering what to do. Mom would know what to do... I thought, then my heart sped up. Mom! Dad! I suddenly thought, remembering what had happened earlier. I looked around frantically, feeling tears prick my eyes. Then, my eyes landed on something horrifying....
Two familiar figures laid a few feet away from me, blood trickled down their bodies, and I gasped, crawling painfully towards them. My eyes widened at the gruesome scene infront of me. The top half of my father's body was crushed by a large piece of rubble, blood ran in a thin trail from under the rubble. I reached out to touch his body, and I felt tears run down my cheeks as I felt his cold, lifeless skin. "D-Dad...?" I stuttered, in shock. Just then, I heard a weak cough near me. My head shot in the direction, and I saw my mom, her legs were trapped beneath the same rubble that had killed my father. Her eyes were opened slightly, and I felt tears flow faster down my face. "J-Jon...?" She suddenly stuttered, coughing. I crawled to her side, and grabbed her hand. "M-Mom...." I cried. Her head slowly turned in my direction, and I saw a soft smile on her lips, confusing me. She looked at me, "J-Jon...I-I love you...." She stuttered, taking in a shaky breath. I gripped her hand, "I-I love you too..." I murmured through tears. She lifted up her other hand, shakily wiping my tears away. "I'll always be with you..." She murmured, her voice trailing off. Her eyes glazed over, and her arm fell limp beside her. I stared at her, "M-Mom...?" I questioned, nudging her body. She didn't move. "M-MOM!?" I screamed, squeezing her hand, but I got no response. Blood began to drip out of her nose, and I felt the warmth beggining to escape her body.
I reached out a shaky hand and shut her eyes. Tears streamed down my face as I stared at my parents corpses. My body began to shake more out of fear and shock. "It's all my fault!" I wailed. "I never should have ran! I'm so sorry!!!" I wailed, but I got no answer, only the soft sound of silence. I shakily crawled to my mom's side, curling up beside her lifeless body. Tears streamed down my face as I sobbed guiltily. "I'm sorry...I'm sorry...I'm sorry...." I whispered repeatedly before falling into a rough, restless sleep.
When I woke up, it was dark, and cold. I shivered, leaning closer to my mother's body, though it no longer held its comforting warmness....All that was left was a frigid, lifeless, guilt reviving corpse. I cried more at the thought that I'd lost everything in one day. My home, my parents, and possibly my life. I curled up in a hopeless ball, sobbing until I fell asleep once more.
Okay...I thought to myself, I can do it.... I stared at the fallen brick wall that trapped me in this prison of stone. I pushed the wall once more, pushing with all my might in hopes to free myself. Some debris sprinkled down into my green hair, but the wall didn't move. I huffed as I gave up, sitting back down on the dirty floor. I had only been in here a little more that a dat, but I was already feeling the walls closing in on me. The air was heavy and hard to breath, and the darkness was unsettling. Not to mention the fact that the corpses of my beloved parents would start to stink soon... I huffed, screaming in anger, sadness, and hopelessness. I fell back onto my back with a sigh, and I began crying again. I'm so weak....I thought. I'm just a stupid murderer.... I deserve to die...I thought bitterly, sobbing harder. I felt my stomach growl, Well, that's just great... I thought darkly.
I had been in here for what felt like days now, from what I've come to understand, It's been around 3 days..And I was SO hungry, and SO thirsty. My tongue was dry from all the dust in the air, but there was nothing to help me quench my thirst. I looked once more at my parents corpses. They were turning a sickly green color, and a stink was escaping from them as the rotted. I saw blood on the ground, and I licked my lips. "Maybe..." I whispered, but then I gasped at my sickening thoughts. I looked down at my hands. I could feel my sanity slipping away more and more each day. I was left in complete silence, alone with my toxic thoughts. All I could think about was how it was my fault. I sighed, being this alone sure sucked.
I laughed airily, scratching at the ground. I had been in here for 6 days, and I knew I was losing my sanity. I was starving, dehydrated, and alone. And now, I was going insane. I couldn't stop laughing eveey so often, even though nothing was funny. I was tearing away the ground, and scratching at my wrists every so often. My stomach growled loudly, and I gripped it, laughing. "I-Im...So...Hungry!!" Is said between maniacal laughed. It stank of rotting flesh, but it didn't stump my unending hunger. I stared at my parents rotting corpses yearningly. I then looked away, gripping my head and pulling at my hair. "I can't lose myself now...."
I was curled up in a ball on the ground today marked the ninth day that I was trapped in this HELL. My body twitched, my sanity was practically gone by now. I was starving, I tried to eat rocks a few minutes before, but it didn't stunt my hunger at all. I laughed quietly, and the laughter grew louder and louder until it was full out maniacal laughter. I sat up, running my hand through my hair. "I'm gonna die!" I laughed, "I'M GONNA DIE!!!"" I continued, still laughing. "I'm gonna STARVE!" I laughed, just then, my eyes landed on my parents rotting corpses. A maniacal grin crossed my face, and I began to crawl towards them. I sat infront of them, staring at them for a moment. "Food..." I whispered, and I couldn't stop myself. Insanity gripped my mind, and it was like I was a different person. I began grabbing their rotten flesh with my hands, pulling the meat into my mouth. I began devouring their corpses hungrily. I laughed as I ate, my mind snapping as I watched myself rip my loving parents bodies apart.
Two days later....Two days later was when it happened....I was sitting in the corner of the small area I was confined to. My body was twitching and spasming. I stank of rotting flesh and bodies, matching the stench of my little area. My parents corpses were comely demolished, and a horrible mess of bones, flesh, and meat covered the ground. I was covered in darkened, sticky, stinking blood...Yet I was smiling. It wasn't the kind of smile that you would want to see...It was a maniacal smile, due to my now broken mind. I wasn't happy, but I couldn't stop smiling or laughing. My mind was filled with a dark-spirited, artificial happiness...And though I seemed happy...On the inside...I was terrified...Terrified of my future...And if myself.
I was still against the wall wgen I heard something that I hadn't heard in 11 days...Voices. I wondered if they were coming from my head, but then I heard the footsteps...I felt something that I hadn't felt in many days...Hope. I crawled to the nearest opening, and began to call out, "Help!" I cried, my voice hoarse from dehydration and lack of use. I heard the footsteps pause, "Did you hear that?" Someone questioned. "What?" Another voice asked. "It sounded like...A voice." The man said. "Another survivor!? I thought we found them all!" The men exclaimed.
"Please!" I cried out, and I heard the footsteps approaching, until they seemed right above me. "Hello?" He questioned. "In here!" I cried, and I heard then gasp. "GUYS, WE HAVE A SURVIVOR!!!" One screamed, and I heard more footsteps approaching. I sat crawled back to the corner, and watched as the large piece of rubble by my parents corpses was removed. I blinked at the sun shone into my dark little area. I blinked a few times and smiled brightly as I looked forward and saw four men in rescue gear staring at me in suprise and horror.
I smiled brighter, though my eyes still shone with insanity. I began to chuckle, which soon turned into full on laughter. "I-I'm free....I'M FINALLY FREE!!!!" I exclaimed, shakily making my way to my weak feet. One of the men ran towards me, jumping over what was left of my parents. He ran to my side, in case I fell. I looked around, seeing my whole house destroyed....But the clearest area was the area around the couch, where my parents and I had been sitting before I had started running. I felt a chill go through me at the though, than I looked around a little farther. I stiffened as I saw that my whole town was gone, and it was all replaced by rubble and broken houses. I stared down the street, seeing a familiar pile of rubble. 'The Jesters Hat' sign sat atop the rubble, and that's when I seemed to lose it all. I felt a soft hand touch my arm, and my heart beat sped up, and before I even knew what was happening...I attacked the man next to me. He screamed as I bit a chunk out of his arm. I began to rip at his flesh as his friends screamed from behind me. "HE'S GONE INSANE!" One screamed, "HE'S GONE CANNIBALISTIC!" Another screamed. I felt something hard hit to back of my head, and my legs went limp, and I fell to the group, hitting the rubble with a thump. My head hurt, but before I passed out, I heard one man say, "Poor boy..." Then I was gone.
*Flashback end*
"And when I woke up, I was at the asylum..." I finished sadly.
