Chapter two
This ship was going to be the death of her, Persephone decided. With the engine blowing up every five minutes and the oars grinding every ten, she was sure the thing was going to fall apart.
Festus, her old buddy, was the masthead for the Argo II. When she'd seen the dragon awake, for the first time since he crashed, Persephone may have let out a few tears. Of course, she'd never admit that... no matter how much Leo liked to tease her about it.
Piper and Jason had been helping wherever they can, as had the entire cabin of Hephaestus; but the work mainly fell onto Persephone and Leo. More so Leo, as Persephone wasn't fireproof.
Today was the day. The day the ship set sail for Camp Jupiter. Jason's previous home, and Percy's current one; a camp full of Romans.
Now, Persephone wasn't judgemental or anything about where people came from, she'd experienced that enough herself, being the daughter of Hades, but there was always some sort of bad feeling she got when she thought about the place.
"We need to tell Percy before we fly a Greek warship into a Roman camp. From what Jason has told us, they won't hesitate to shoot us down." Persephone told the cabin counsellors, gathered in the blue house. "Leo's been working at something to tell him, all we need to do is tell him the message and deliver it to him, then we can leave for Camp Jupiter."
Since she'd gotten her memories back, Persephone had volunteered herself as one of the leaders, keeping everyone up to date with the plans for the Argo II and Camp Jupiter. Of course, no one disagreed with this, as she'd had as much experience as Annabeth and Jason... and Percy if he was there. Besides, she was at camp a whole lot more than Nico was.
"When can we leave?" Jason asked her. She turned to Leo, who cleared his throat and stood up.
"In a few hours, tops. Persephone and I are heading to the bunker after this, to run the last few checks and send the message." He promised. This was new information to the girl. Annabeth looked to Persephone, awaiting confirmation. Leo looked at her, eyes like a puppy. She sighed.
"Yeah. Besides, Leo's the captain of the ship, right? He should be the one to tell Percy about his ship.
Chiron nodded at the two. "I fear you may have to begin your quest once you arrive at Camp Jupiter." He says. "Make sure you have everything you need; you will not be coming back anytime soon."
With that happy note, Chiron let the meeting end. Leo wasted no time in dragging Persephone to the bunker. His eyes held an excited glint in them, something he always had when he'd made something new. The very same look Persephone had first seen when she'd awoken on that bus to the Grand Canyon.
"It's over here, look!"
He pulled out a piece of parchment and unrolled it.
"Ta-da!"
Persephone stared. Then raised a brow, looking at Leo, unimpressed. He rolled his eyes at her, motioning her to follow him as he walked over to the warship and started to climb. He led her through the corridors, after yelling a quick greeting to Festus.
"This is my room." He told her, opening the door. "I'll show you yours later. But first-"
He set the scroll down in front of him and sat on the floor, as she watched from the door.
"What are you doing, Leo?"
"I'm sending Percy a message. Are you joining me, Hermosa?" She blushed at the nickname.
"We're still using that?" He motioned her to shush, while he was fiddling with something on the parchment.
"Hey!" Leo began, staring at the parchment. "Greetings from your friends at Camp Half-blood, et cetera. This is Leo. I'm the..." He trailed off, looking at Persephone, who was off screen. "What's my title? Am I like admiral, or captain, or-"
"Repair boy."
"Very funny, Sephy." He grumbled. She winked at him. He turned back to his recording. "So yeah, I'm... ah... supreme commander of the Argo II. Yeah, I like that! Anyway, we're gonna be sailing towards you in about, I dunno, an hour in this big mother warship. We'd appreciate it if you'd not, like, blow us out of the sky or anything. So okay! If you could tell the Romans that. See you soon. Yours in demigodishness, and all that. Peace out." He stopped the recording.
"Demigodishness?" Persephone laughed.
"It makes sense! It's a word, I just coined it. Trademarked an all," He defends. "But I'll let you use it, if you kiss me on the cheek." He winked, teasing.
Persephone rolled her eyes at his comment, walking over to him and reaching over to pick up the parchment, rolling it up. She clutched it tightly in her hands. Leo nearly freaked out.
"Hey! Careful, don't crease it." He told her. When he looked up at her face, he saw the fear in her eyes. "Hey, what's wrong?"
"Is it wrong to say that I'm scared?" She whispered. He stood up.
"What are you scared about?" He asked her, matching her voice.
"I'm seeing Percy for the first time in months. What if he's different now that he's been in Camp Jupiter. What if he likes that place more than here? What if something goes wrong and the Romans hate us?" She rambled.
"It'll be fine. Percy will still be Percy; he's probably pumped to see you and Annabeth. Besides, Jason's from Camp Jupiter and he's okay. And you may like the camp, too." Leo placed his hands on her shoulders. "And nothing will go wrong, we'll just sail into the Roman Camp, tell them what's up and begin the quest. Simple."
"Being a demigod is never that simple, Valdez." He grinned.
"When you're with me, everything is simple. Everything will be fine." He promised. "Let's go get this scroll to Percy Jackson."
