Chapter 5: The Most Awkward Confession Ever

Heart still beating fast, I wash my hands, whistling a tune. I'm super happy that Dan likes me. How he likes me? I don't even know. But he does, and that's what's important.

I then hear Arin's voice say, "Dan, can I tell you something now?"

"Sure," Dan says. "What is it?"

   Arin pauses. "Actually...never mind..."

Dan sighs with disappointment. "Come on, man. Tell me!"

"Well...it's not exactly my information to tell," Arin says.

And now I know what he was about to say. And I think Dan might get it out of him. I mean, now that I know that Dan likes me, it wouldn't be terrible for Arin to spill the beans that I like Dan back, but that's information I wanna tell him myself.

So I burst back into the living room dramatically, saying, "I'm baaaack~!"

Dan and Arin look at me and smile. "How was your bathroom break?" Dan asks, still red from his confession.

I shrug. "Like any other, I suppose." I sit down on the couch next to Arin and, just because I wanna be mean, ask, "So, what conversation topics were touched on while I was away?"

Dan turns an even darker shade of red and begins to stutter. "U-uh...n-normal things...like..." he trails off, not knowing what to say.

Arin looks at me with a look that says "you know what we were talking about, don't you?"

I respond with a small and subtle nod.

Arin smirks. "This is getting juicy," he mouths, licking his lips.

I nod once more. How Dan doesn't see this, I don't know.

"You know, I'm gonna have some fun with this one," Arin mouths. "Hey, Dan!" he calls.

"Y-yeah?" Dan stammers, smiling as normally as he can.

"(Y/N) knows what we were talking about!" Arin says with a smirk.

Dan turns a dark shade of red. "O-oh..," he mutters, looking down and fidgeting with his hands awkwardly. "I-is that true, (Y/N)?"

Poor Dan. I feel so bad for him. Now he knows what it's like to have Arin make a fool out of him. He doesn't deserve this...

I decide to put Dan's mind at ease, even if it means I have to lie.

"What? How could I have heard you when I was in the bathroom?" I ask.

I can see Dan's tense body relax a little. He still seems suspicious though. "But...why would Arin say you did know, then?"

"Because she does!" Arin says. "She just told me she knows!"

"Arin, I didn't even say anything about what you guys were talking about!" I say. Well, it's not a lie. I didn't say anything. I just nodded.

"You told me with your nod!" Arin says, getting annoyed now.

"I didn't see her nod," Dan points out.

"Because I didn't!" I say convincingly. I don't understand how I can flawlessly lie sometimes but completely freeze up other times.

Arin sighs with frustration and crosses his arms. "You did and you know it," Arin grumbles to me.

I shrug. "Maybe my head had a spasm. Because I don't remember doing that."

Dan completely relaxes now, sighing with relief. I'm about to say "why so relieved?" but think better of it, since that's putting him in an awkward position. I decide to just leave it be for now.

Arin smirks. "Well...(Y/N) was telling me something interesting as well," he says.

I sigh. "Here we go..." Like I said, Arin telling Dan of my crush on him wouldn't be too traumatic for me, so I don't try to stop him. Although, it would be nice if I could tell my own crush of my own feelings. Thanks, Arin.

"(Y/N) has a crush on you!" Arin says, looking at me with a devilish smirk. I shrug in response. "And (Y/N), just in case your head did have a spasm, Dan has a crush on you too. Yayyyy! Cue the confetti! Okay, kiss now." Arin props his head up with his hand and stares dreamily at us.

Dan ignores Arin and stares at me quizzically. "Really? You have a crush on me?"

There's really no point in hiding it now. The beans have already been spilt. I nod, smiling. "Yeah. You seem awesome and like a good partner. I know I just met you today, which is why we should get to know each other better before getting together or something like that."

"Yeah...we should. And in case you didn't believe Arin, (Y/N), I'm starting to have a crush on you too," Dan says with a nervous smile.

I smile back.

Me and Dan keep exchanging awkward smiles. Now what? Like, do we kiss, do we play video games? I've never been the romantic type, so I'm at a loss of what to do now.

I decide I'm not ready for any romantic advancements, since, again, I just met the boi today. I wanna get to know Dan first before smooching. So I look around for an object that can break the awkward tension. My face lights up as I spot a bag of Sour Patch Kids on the couch. Dan loves those. I know from the phone call I had with Arin and from how much he was eating them earlier today. I yeet the bag at him.

Dan catches it with a smile. "You've read my mind, girl," he laughed, grabbing a handful of the sour children and popping them into his mouth. "Thanks."

I nod, smiling back.

Arin looks disappointed that there was no kissing or date proposals involved. He sighs but smiles afterwards. "You guys will be cute together," he says sincerely. "I'm not implying that you guys have to get together, but if you guys do, you'll make a good couple."

Well, at least I have Arin's blessing for the future. I smile. "Thanks..."

Dan responds to Arin's statement with an awkward smile and a nod of thanks.

More awkward silence. Damn, I guess the Sour Patch Kids weren't enough. And that's surprising, since those babies are miracle workers.

This time, Arin's the one to save the day. He takes the Mega Man disc out of his Wii. (Idk if Mega Man 3 is on the Wii, but let's just pretend that it is.) He then puts Super Smash Bros into the Wii, smirking. "Guys, if you can beat me and my boi Kirby, then I'll for real give you each twenty bucks."

And just like that, the tension dissipates.

My head perks up at the mention of money, and so does Dan's. "That'll be easy peasy," I said with a smirk. "You and your boi Kirby have no skills whatsoever."

"That's a hard statement," Arin says, "for someone who's never actually seen me play."

"True. But you're bad at everything else. Why would Smash Bros be the exception?" I ask with a smirk.

Arin scoffs and tosses me a Wii remote. "All right, big shot. Let's see if that smirk's still on your face when my boi Kirby kicks you into the stratosphere."

I catch it, the smirk on my face still there. It'll never leave, because I'll never lose.

"Arin, hook me up with a Wii remote!" Dan says, excited to battle.

Arin smiles and tosses Dan one too. He then grabs one for himself and sits down next to me. "All right, let's choose our battlers!" he says.

Arin chooses Kirby, Dan chooses Yoshi, and I choose Jigglypuff. (If you don't like Jigglypuff then you can change it.)

"Arin, be prepared to give me twenty bucks!" Dan says confidently.

Arin scoffs. "I won't need to give you the money, Danny. Because Kirby and I are gonna strike Yoshi down! And Jigglypuff!"

"Guys, stop. Jigglypuff and I are gonna strike your characters down! We all know that Jigglypuff is stronger than Yoshi and Kirby combined!" I say as Arin selects a course.

"Pfft, Kirby's way stronger than Jigglypuff. Especially in terms of mouth strength. How he can inhale people is nuts!" Arin says as the battle starts.

We all go silent, focusing on smashing each other.

Then Dan starts humming something as he works, and Arin laughs, recognizing the melody. He begins to hum along, leaving me clueless. I have no idea what they're humming, but the tune is catchy. "What are you guys humming?" I ask.

Dan smiles. "Just a song me, Arin, and my friend Brian wrote. It's called 'Smash!', and it's about this very game."

I smile as well. "I'll have to check it out later."

Then, Arin and I enter a sudden death, meaning we're tied for first place. I smirk and make Jigglypuff run up to Kirby. Jigglypuff then punches Kirby into the stratosphere, and Kirby screams as he soars away.

"Yaaaayy!" I cheer. I then lean in real close to the pouting Arin and whisper, "Hey. Hey Arin."

"WHAT?" he snaps.

I don't jump or move away. I don't even get scared. He's yelled suddenly at me so many times that I'm desensitized do it. "I'm gonna need twenty dollars," I say.

Dan laughs and pats Arin's head.

Arin sighs. "Let it be said that I'm a man of my word." He then reaches in his back pocket, pulls out his wallet, roots around in it for a bit, then hands me a crisp twenty dollar bill. "Here."

I smile, stuffing it into my own back pocket. "Thanks, bro~" I say in a sing-song voice.

"Hold on," Dan says. "I want a rematch. I know that my wonderful Yoshi and beat your Jigglypuff. I'll also give you twenty dollars if you're able to beat me a second time. Oh, and Arin, if I beat you, you'd better give that twenty dollars, dude."

"Okay! I will. Geez," Arin mumbles.

"You're on!" I say.

We then play a second game, and I'm crushing Dan. It stays like that throughout the entire game, and I end up winning again. Surprise, surprise.

I smirk and hold my hand out for Dan's money. "Your money, good sir," I smirk.

Dan sighs. He takes out his wallet and hands me a twenty.

"Yay!" I celebrate as I pocket that twenty too. "Anyway, I think it's safe to say that the champion of Super Smash Bros is named (Y/N) Hanson."

"Yeah, you're probably right," Dan says as he smiles at me.

"Hold on, I bet I can beat her!" Arin says like the stubborn person he is. "Rematch!"

"All right. It's Kirby's funeral," I say with a shrug.

We then play another game. I win. And another. I win. And another. I win. And another. I win. And another. Guess what? I win.

"Rematch!" Arin declares once more.

"Okay..," I say, happy that I'm having fun with my brother and an awesome, curly-haired God.

You know, I think this visit is gonna be pretty fun. And who knows? Maybe I'll even leave with a boyfriend.

~~~
How'd you guys like that chapter? The part where they're playing Super Smash Bros was super fun to write! What's a story without a salty brother?
