( GHOST SHIP )
The last victim's house has become a crime scene. Bela, impersonating a reporter, is interviewing a distraught man who is the victim's brother. "No. Police said that he drowned, but I don't u-understand how..." Mr Warren says.
"I am so sorry for your loss, Mr. Warren. Now, if you could just tell me one more time about the ship your brother saw." Bella says.
Dean, Elena and Sam approach, wearing their fancier clothes and flashing badges. "Ma'am, I think this man's been through quite enough. You should go." Dean says.
"But I just have a few more questions." Bella says.
"No, you don't." Elena says.
"Thank you for your time." Bela says and leaves.
"Sorry you had to deal with that. They're like roaches." Dean says.
"So, we heard you say your brother saw a ship." Sam says.
"Yeah, that's right." Mr Warren says.
"Did he tell you what it looked like?" Asks Elena.
"It was, uh... like the old Yankee clippers. A smuggling vessel. The rakish topsail, a barkentine rigging. Angel figurehead on the bow."
"That's a lot of detail for a ship your brother saw." Elena points out.
"My brother and I were night diving. I saw the ship, too."
On the other side of the parking lot, Bela is talking to the real uniforms and pointing in Dean, Elena and Sam's direction. Sam notices first and nudges Dean. They wrap up.
"All right. Well, we'll be in touch." Dean says.
"Thank you." Sam says.
WOODS
[ ☼ ]
Dean and Sam are loading shotguns at the trunk of the Impala while stands by. Bela approaches from behind. "I see you got your car back." She says.
"You really want to come near me when I got a loaded gun in my hands?" Dean asks.
"Now, now. Mind your blood pressure. Why are you even still here? You have enough to I.D. the boat." Says Bela.
"That guy back there saw the ship." Elena says.
"Yeah? And?" Bella asks.
"And he's going to die, so we have to save him." Elena says.
"How sweet." Bela says.
"You think this is funny?" Dean asks.
"He's cannon fodder. He can't be saved in time, and you know it." Says Bela.
"Yeah, well, see, we have souls, so we're gonna try." Dean says.
"Well, I'm actually going to find the ship and put an end to this. But you have fun."
"Hey, Bela, how'd you get like this, huh? What, did daddy not give you enough hugs or something?"
"I don't know. Your daddy give you enough?" Bela says. "Don't you dare look down your nose at me. You're not better than I am."
"We help people." Elena says.
"Come on. You do this out of vengeance and obsession. You're a stone's throw from being a serial killer." Says Bela. "Whereas I, on the other hand, I get paid to do a job and I do it. So, you tell me-which is healthier?"
"Bela, why don't you just leave? We've got work to do." Sam says.
"Yeah. You're 0 for 2. Bang-up job so far." She leaves.
WARREN HOUSE
[ ☾]
Sam, Elena and Dean are staking out the home of Peter Warren, the victim's brother. Sam is doing research. "Anything good?" Dean asks.
"No, not really. I mean, both brothers are Duke University grads. No criminal record. I mean, a few speeding tickets. They inherited their father's real estate fortune six years ago." Sam says.
"How much?" Elena asks.
"$112 million."
Dean whistles. "Nice life." He says.
"Yeah. I mean, nice, clean, aboveboard." Sam says. "So why did they see the ship? Why Sheila, too? What do they all have in common?"
"Maybe nothing." Dean says.
"No. There's always something."
Peter spots them. "Hey, you!" He yells.
"I think we've been made." Dean says and they get out of the car and approach him.
"What are you guys doing?! You watching me?" Peter yells.
"Sir, calm down. Please." Sam says.
"You guys aren't cops! Not dressed like that. Not – not in that crappy car."
"Whoa, hey. No need to get nasty." Dean says.
"We are cops, okay? We're undercover. We're here because we think you're in danger." Sam says.
"From who?!"
"If you just settle down, we'll talk about it." Says Sam.
"Look, you guys just stay away from me!" Peter yells.
"Wait." Elena says.
"Hey, you moron! We're trying to help you!" Dean says.
Peter runs to his car and gets in, starts to drive off. Before he makes it to the gate, the car shudders and dies. "That can't be good." Elena says.
"No. Get the salt gun." Sam says. Dean runs back to the Impala as Sam dashes to help.
Inside Peter's car, a spirit dressed in old seaman's clothes and a navy coat, his long hair dripping into his eyes, appears in the passenger's seat. It turns to Peter and glares, then reaches out to touch his cheek.
Peter convulses, choking on water that spills out of his mouth and struggling to get a breath. He scrabbles for the door, which locks itself, and he slumps over. Sam arrives at the car.
"Peter!" Sam yells.
Peter doesn't respond, but the spirit glares straight at Sam. Dean arrives on the other side and aims the salt gun at the spirit. "Sam!"
Sam ducks as Dean fires. The spirit disappears, and Sam yanks the door open. He pulls Peter back and checks for a pulse, but after a few seconds his shoulders slump and he shakes his head at Dean. Dean kicks the door in frustration.
Sam, Elena and Dean are driving along in the Impala with the radio going, talking about the incoming weather. "Do you wanna say it or should I?" Dean asks as he turns the radio off.
"What?" Sam asks.
"You can't save everybody, Sam."
"Yeah, right, so – so what, you feel better now or what?" Sam says.
"No, not really."
"Me neither." Says Sam.
"You gotta understa–" Dean starts.
"It's just lately, I feel like I can't save anybody." Eerie music followed by a view of the Impala speeding along.
Outside the house Sam, Elena and Dean are staying in, Sam is reading, Dean on his phone. A knock is heard at the door and Dean checks the door and sees that it is Bela.
Sam and Dean share a long look before Dean opens the door. "Dear God, are you actually squatting? So how'd things go last night with Peter?" Bela asks. Sam and Dean don't respond. "That well, huh?"
"If you say 'I told you so', I swear to God I'll start swinging." Dean says.
"Look, I think the four of us should have a heart to heart." Says Bela.
"That's assuming that you have a heart." Dean says.
"Dean, please...I'm sorry about what I said before, ok? I come bearing gifts." Bela says.
"Such as?" Elena asks.
"I've ID'd the ship." Bela says. "It's the Espirito Santo, a merchant sailing vessel, quite a colourful history. In 1859 a sailor was accused of treason. He was tried aboard a ship in a kangaroo court and hanged. He was 37."
"Which would explain the 37 year cycle." Sam says.
"Aren't you a sharp tack?" Bela says. "I have a photo of his somewhere...here."
Dean looks at it closely. "Isn't that the customer we saw last night?" He asks Sam and Elena.
"You saw him?" Bela asks.
"Yeah, that's him, except he was missing a hand." Elena says.
"His right hand?" Says Bela.
"How'd you know?" Sam asks.
"The sailor's body was cremated, but not before they cut off his hand to make a hand of glory."
"A hand of glory-I think I got one of those at the end of my Thai massage last week." Dean laughs.
"Dean, the right hand of a hanged man is a serious cult object and is very powerful." Sam says.
"So they say." Says Bela.
"And officially counts as remains." Dean says.
"But still, none of this explains why the ghost is choosing these victims." Elena says.
"I'll tell you why, who cares. Find the hand, burn it and stop the bloody thing." Bela says.
"I don't get it. Why are you telling us all of this?" Dean asks.
"Because I know exactly where the hand is."
"Where?" Sam asks.
"At the Sea Pines Museum. It's a carp bit of maritime history. But I need help." Bela says.
"What kind of help?"
Later on, Bela is waiting in the living room of Sam and Dean's house; no one else is around. "What is taking so long? Sam's already halfway there...with his date and Elena is heading there now."
"So not okay with this!" Dean yells.
"What are you, a woman? Come down already." Bela says.
James Bond theme tune as Dean descends the stairs. "Alright, get it out – I look ridiculous." He says.
"Not exactly the word I'd use." Bela says as she checks him out.
"What?" Dean asks.
"You know, when this is over, we should really have angry sex."
Dean looks stunned. "Don't objectify me." He says. "Let's go."
