Jimin's POV

Once I ended the call with Taehyung, right away I called JiHye's sister JiWon, and she answered in a few seconds.
"Hi, Jimin...how have you been?" She asked cheerfully.

"I've been good, JiWon. Listen, I need some information from you," I told her, not wanting to beat around the bush.

"I'll tell you what I know. What's it about?" She asked, suddenly sounding more attentive.

"You remember the profiling we got done for Taehyung a few weeks ago? That was originally done six years back, and the report was not what you told us now," I informed her, and she let out a small gasp.

"What? But I told you what was generated. I didn't make it up. I promise," her voice came out in a worried manner.

"Hey, relax...I know that. But I think the old report was made up by someone. We need to know who did it," I explained to her.

"Ahh... okay... I get it. Can I check who signed the report?" She asked.

"Umm... Is it possible to check that on your system?" I asked her, nervously running a hand through my hair, wondering if there was any other possible way since I wasn't sure if the original report was still with Taehyung. I had seen it many years ago, but I obviously didn't even notice who had signed it.

JiWon gave a negative hum.
"No, Jimin. Signing is done after the report is printed out. So it has to be checked on the actual printed old report. I hope you still have it... because we destroy our archived paper reports which are older than two years," she said, and I suddenly felt all the lights of hope going off.

What if the original report is not available anymore?

"Uh...mmm... I think Taehyung does. Is there no other way?" I asked, my voice reflecting the state of panic within my mind like a mirror.

"I guess no. Because the report can be edited and printed out by anyone with admin privileges without saving the changes. So it will be the actual correct one in the system, whereas there could be changes in the printed one. You understand what I'm telling?" She explained, and my shoulders dropped in defeat.

"Ohh... I understand, JiWon. I'll talk to Taehyung and get back to you. Thank you for this information," I thanked her, feeling hopeless anyway.

"You're most welcome," she said, and we ended the call.

The next moment, I called Taehyung.
"Taeh-"

"Did you call her?" He asked impatiently, not even letting me breathe in peace.

Sighing, I nodded my head.
"I did. She wants to see who signed the report. Do you have the old report with you?" I was curious.

"What? I don't have it. I gave it to Amy. Why does she need that though?" He sounded flustered, the tone of his voice coming out higher and louder than usual.

"Because that's the only way to find out," I informed him, and he groaned in disappointment.

"Aisssh!!! How do I get it from Amy? What if she has thrown it away already?" Taehyung panicked, mirroring my own panicked state.

I truly want the best for him and Amy, and without proving the foulplay in the original report, there is no way that they would get back to their old lives.

"There's no way to find out then. That's what she said," I said, feeling remorseful, wishing there was some other way to help mend their lives.

There was a long pause with neither of us speaking anything.

"Okay, I'll ask Amy..." Taehyung ended the pause and said calmly.

"Okay. We'll try our best. Don't worry. Even if we can't find out, you still have Amy and MinJun with you. So relax," I comforted him, knowing fully well that my words made no sense. But at that moment, I felt helpless and clueless, and I had no choice but to tell him that.

"Whoever did that, had done it on purpose for sure. And they might try to get back and ruin our lives. I don't want anyone coming between us anymore," he said clearly, and I couldn't help but nod in agreement.

"But as long as you both are strong and committed, no one can do anything to your relationship." I protested, trying to convince him not to set his expectations about finding the old report too high and end up getting disappointed. Because he said that he had given the report to Amy, and I couldn't even guess if she would still have it safe or destroyed it already.

"I know that, Jimin ah... Anyway, I'll try my best to get the old report," Taehyung's tone oozed confidence and positivity.

Letting out a tired sigh, I replied,
"Okay...call me when you get it." I said, and we ended the call.

Taehyung's POV

How do I ask her? If I bring up the topic once again, she will surely look down upon me and feel irritated and probably even stop talking to me forever.

But I really want to know how the mistake happened in the first place.

Although not entirely the fault of the report alone, our relationship practically tore apart for six whole years because of the content that it delivered to us back then.

Should I look in her shelves? Would I be a creep?

I thought hard massaging my nose bridge, and after a long while, I decided it was the only way to go about it. Amy was at work. She wouldn't be back until 3:30. I had more than four hours to sieve through the entire house, and there weren't even too many places to look in.

I walked into her room first and scanned the interior. There were three cupboards, and I decided to rake through them one by one and locate the report myself.

Opening the first cupboard, I saw that it was huge and had all of Amy's and MinJun's neatly folded clothes, all smelling of mild fabric softener. I moved each piece of cloth aside and checked it thoroughly. Snuck away behind her clothes were three gift bags of varying sizes. Grinning to myself, I put them back in place. Nothing else was there in that shelf.

I put everything back exactly how it was and moved to the second cupboard. It had her handbags, coats, jackets and other long clothes of the two of them hung in hangers, and their shoes and boots were kept below. There were no racks or drawers to keep anything else. I closed the cupboard.

Only one more was left.

What if she already destroyed and discarded the report?

I panicked, and despite the cold weather, my forehead broke into a sweat. Chewing my lips out of nervousness, I opened the last cupboard only to discover that it was fairly empty. There were all of her skin care and makeup products and other accessories, and there were also four drawers. I opened them one by one.

One of the drawers held her inner garments. Another one had all of Minjun's batman and doraemon printed underwear, and the other two were empty.

My shoulders slouched in defeat and disappointment.

So the report isn't here. But none of her medical records or MinJun's medical records are here too. Does she keep them elsewhere?

I closed the cupboard and sat on her bed trying to think of where else it could be.

Opening the bedside table in a hopeless attempt to locate the report there, I found that she had kept only some emergency medicines and a couple of books which she read, and hidden and buried deep behind everything was the snow globe that she gifted me at Jeju.

I took it out and shook the snow globe. The glittery snowflakes swirled around before settling down around me and her and the beautiful warm snow cottage with the 'I love you' plaque.

I smiled even as my tears welled.

I put it back in place.

On the bedside table was a photo of Amy and MinJun that was taken on the day of her delivery. I figured it out since she had the hospital gown on and the name band on her wrist.

I have been looking at it every day since I came here.

MinJun looked like a tiny baby polar bear in that photo. He was so cute, tiny and cuddly with his wrinkly newborn skin and all. Amy looked exhausted but happy. I ran my fingers over the picture, pain and sadness piercing my heart and ripping it apart.

I should have been in this picture too.

My heart ached, and my anger raged.

I will find out who did it to us.

Clenching my fists and pursing my lips, I put the photo back on the table, I decided to look in the shelves in my room with some kind of sudden renewed energy and motivation.

There were four cupboards in my room, and I stood with hands planted on my hips as I assessed which shelf to check out first.

I used one of them, the first one. It was completely empty before I started using it.

The second cupboard stored MinJun's books and toys, and the third one had his stationery and craft supplies. By now, I was fully familiar with MinJun's shelves. So I decided to start with the last one which no one used.

It had two big drawers inside. The other racks had neatly folded bed linen and table linen stacked one on top of each other.

I opened the first drawer and saw that it had many files inside it. Taking the whole bunch out, I placed them on the bed, and I sat down on the bed too and started browsing through them one by one.

Bingo!

The first file had all of MinJun's health records from the day of his birth till today, neatly arranged in chronological order. I flipped through them and saw that Amy delivered MinJun vaginally and his birth weight was 3.5kg. He had the same blood type as mine, AB+

I put it aside.

The second file held Amy's medical reports from Jeju. My pulse quickened as I flipped through them and read the report from which I first found out that we were going to be parents. The corners of my lips curved up into a small smile and tears rose inside my eyes thinking of our beautiful dreamlike days together at Jeju and how I revealed the news to her amongst our tears and smiles.

It still feels like yesterday.

Sniffing my tears back, I checked the next file, and much to my relief, it had Amy's pregnancy records. I flipped through the familiar first few records and test reports since we got them all done together, and almost towards the end was the DNA profiling report.

The wretched report!

My hands became cold when I spotted that haunted report. I flipped straight to the end of it and saw who had signed it.

It read Dr. Jung Mae Joon.

Who is this person?

Removing the report from the file, I clicked a picture of it and then put all the files back in their original place and closed the cupboard.

I crashed on the bed and sent the picture to Jimin. Once he saw it, I called him.

"Jimin ah... did you see the report?" I asked.

"I did... but who is this Jung MaeJoon? And how did you get the report so soon?" He was surprised.

"I searched for it myself, and I have no clue who he is... maybe ask JiHye's sister?" I suggested, already plotting murder within my head.

"You searched on your own? You're such a creep. Anyway, I will do it right away," Jimin said, and I okayed it before ending the call.

Who the hell is he? Why did he do this to us?

I was trying to recollect any person that I had come across with that name in the past, and I could think of none. In about ten minutes, Jimin called back, and I answered his call at once.

"Taehyung ah... JiWon said that Dr. Jung was the senior there, and he retired last year," he said, making me bolt upright in my seat.

"Huh? How do we find out who he is and where he is now?" I asked as I repeatedly raked my fingers through my hair, ruffling and shuffling it.

He spoke calmly.
"Don't worry. I got his address and contact number from her. We can find out who the hell he is," I bet he gritted his teeth when he said that.

My mind and heart that had lost all hope suddenly fluffed up upon hearing his words.
"That's great! Can we do it right away?" I asked impatiently.

"I'm free today. Come over. We'll plan it out," he said, and I agreed.

We ended the call, and I wore my coat and mask, took the report with me and drove straight to Jimin's house where he showed me the address and contact number he had noted down.

"Do we go here directly?" I asked him.

"Why not?" He raised his eyebrows.

"Let's go then," I declared, and in a few more minutes, Jimin was driving us both straight to the address on the paper guided by the GPS locator. We arrived at a huge mansion with tall gates, and there were no security guards at the gate.

So I got down and opened the gates, and we walked up to the house and rang the doorbell. An old lady opened the door.

"Ahjumma, we're here to meet Dr. Jung MaeJoon. Is he at home?" Jimin asked her politely with his eye smile.

Casting curious glances our way, she reluctantly nodded.
"Please come in," she stepped aside and let us in.

"Wait here. I will inform him," she said and ushered us into the library. It was rustic and classy with all wood decor, and the place smelled of fine rosewood. We sat on the plush seating and looked around while we waited.

"Taehyung ah!" Jimin panicked suddenly, making me turn around and raise my eyebrows at him asking him what it was.

He pointed to a framed photo on the large desk in front of us, and the moment my eyes fell on the photograph, my jaw dropped to the floor and my breath hitched in my throat.

It was a picture of Ah Ra and an older man who appeared to be her father.

Was this Jung MaeJoon? Jung MaeJoon is connected to Jung Ah Ra? Jung Ah Ra again? Did she do this to us again?

My blood boiled, my hands balled into fists, and my jaw clenched tight.

Sensing the tension coursing through my body and making me go rigid, Jimin patted my thigh and said, "Calm down, Taehyung. We'll find out soon."

Nodding, I leaned back in my seat, but my shoulders still wouldn't relax.

A few minutes later, a man who appeared to be around sixty years of age—the same man in the photo on the table—walked in to the library, eyeing us suspiciously.

"You're here to see me?" He asked us doubtfully as he sat down on his chair that was across the desk.

"Yes," said Jimin plainly while I just glared at the old man.

The old man nodded.
"What's this about? Do we know each other?" He asked again, adjusting his eyeglasses.

"We have to introduce ourselves," Jimin said with a sly smile.

He adjusted his glasses once again and leaned back in his seat, crossing his legs.

"We've come here directly from the DNA screening center just to meet you," Jimin spoke calmly, and the old man nodded.

"We need an explanation for this," Jimin continued and pushed a copy of the old report to Dr. Jung. The original was safe inside my car, and we took a few copies just to be safe.

Dr. Jung furrowed his eyebrows in doubt as he took the papers in his hands and flipped through them.

I didn't let my eyes wander away from him, and I watched keenly as his expression grew grim, and his forehead broke into a sweat as he skimmed through the report. He was clearly getting very nervous.

"What do you need to know about this?" He threw the report across the table and creased his eyebrows in annoyance.

"You've signed the report. But it doesn't say the correct results. Did you know that it was the wrong report when you attested it?" Jimin did all the talking, his voice an octave lower than usual.

"Does this concern any of you? If not, you may get out of here now!" He ordered in an irritated tone.

I let out a breath to calm my nerves.
"It does concern me," I spoke in a composed manner despite the anger that was raging within me.

"Who the hell are you?" He raised an eyebrow at me.

He doesn't even know who I am!

I leaned forward and rested my arms on the table and said in a deep voice,
"Kim Taehyung."

Dr. Jung's eyes widened, and he mopped his forehead with his kerchief.

"Why did you do this?" I demanded, and he remained quiet, miserably failing to maintain eye contact, fear and guilt painted brightly across his face.

"SPEAK UP!" I banged my palms on the table and yelled at the top of my voice, my baritone shaking him up a bit and echoing in the otherwise silent library.

"What do you want to know?" He asked, slightly taken aback by my loudness.

"Why did you do this? Why did you change the result?" I demanded once again through gritted teeth.

"Do you know who I am?" He looked at me through the top of his glasses and asked, his tone laced with pride and sarcasm.

I slammed the framed photo on his table and scowled at him although I wasn't exactly sure how they both were related to each other.

"Oh... so you've seen already?" He let out a sarcastic chuckle and continued,
"Yes, Ah Ra is my daughter, and I did this because she wanted to get back at you. What can you do about it?" He cocked his head to the side and said unempathetically, and the sarcasm and mockery in his tone made me want to kill him with my bare hands.

The audacity!

I got up and dashed to him and pulled him up by the collar of his shirt and spoke through gritted teeth,
"We settled things long ago. Why the hell did she want you to do this? Tell me the truth NOW!" I angrily searched his panic-stricken eyes for an answer.

My anger was getting out of control. It usually never does, but now I couldn't hold back.

The old lady peeped in from the doorway and gasped. Jimin crossed his legs and leaned back in his seat and watched us. Looking all cool and calm, he nodded at me. He knew I wouldn't hurt the old man physically, but still his vile action which caused so much damage to three lives and the fact that he gave a damn about it was irritating my nerve cells.

Averting my gaze to the old man, I tightened my grip on his collar making him choke and splutter before he gave in.

He spoke finally.
