Amy's POV

My phone vibrated on the bedside table early on a Sunday morning, and I wondered who would be calling me this early.

It was Jimin, and I answered his call.
"Jimin, one minute. MinJun is sleeping. I'll get out of the room," I whispered softly.

"Okay," he whispered back.

Why is he whispering?

Chuckling to myself, I wriggled out of MinJun's limbs and stepped out of the bedroom, trying to tame my bedhead with one hand.

Why did Jimin call me this early?

"Hello," I said on the phone.

"Hi, Amy. Sorry to wake you up early on Sunday. Did MinJun wake up too?" He asked, his melodic voice sporting a hint of worry.

"No, no. It's okay. He's still asleep. What's up?" I quizzed him, curious to know why he called me this early on Sunday.

"Can I take you both for lunch today? I need to talk to you," he said, suddenly sounding a bit excited.

I was surprised and curious as my eyebrows slowly knitted in confusion.
"Umm... What is it, Jimin? Are you sure this can't be discussed over the phone?"

He dismissed it with a negative hum.
"I'm sure this can't be discussed over the phone," he stated confidently.

I let out a tired sigh.
"Okay... alright. We can meet."

"MinJun eats around noon, right? I'll pick you up at 11:30, okay?" He proposed a plan that perfectly aligned with my son's mealtime.

"Okay. We'll be ready," I agreed with a smile, and we ended the call.

I began wondering why he suddenly insisted on meeting and what was it that he wanted to talk about.

What's with Jimin? He does meet us sometimes. But today, he sounded different. What does he want to talk about? Ahhh... I should've asked him. Anyway, I'll know soon.

MinJun would of course be elated to spend this Sunday outside, unlike most other Sundays where we just stayed indoors so that I could get some cleaning done. I took him to spend time with Jay's family sometimes, and at other times we went to the park to play. But I always feel bad for not being able to take him out as often as I wanted to.

Today is an unexpected and welcome change, and given how much MinJun enjoys Jimin's company, he would surely have fun and be happy today.

Jimin's POV

"Did Amy agree to meet?" JiHye was curious.

"Yeah, she did," I nodded, putting my phone away and pulling her into a side hug.

"That's good. Did she ask if it's about Taehyung?" She asked, snuggling onto my side.

I shook my head.
"No, she didn't. But I think she must have guessed."

"Oh... speak cautiously. One wrong move can trigger her emotionally. I really feel so bad for her and MinJun. Taehyung is such an asshole..he's a moron," JiHye sulked, and I stroked her head gently.

I nodded.
"He knows it himself, Ji. But I'm trying not to be too harsh on him too. I just want them to be happy together," I let out the only thing that was on my mind.

JiHye turned to face me and stroked my cheeks softly, her pretty eyes fixed on mine.
"Jimin ah... I'm so proud of you. I'm truly gifted to find someone like you. You're so kind and empathetic. I love you so much," she smiled.

"I love you too, JiHye," I brought my hands to her jaw, stroking it softly.

Our eyes locked in a strong gaze, and then our lips collided in a gentle kiss.

Bidding goodbye to JiHye, I left the house and drove straight to Amy's house. Taehyung doesn't know that she lives here now, and he doesn't know that I'm meeting her today.

I will tell him later or maybe never tell him at all.

Amy's POV

Jimin reached our building and called my phone. MinJun and I went downstairs and got into his car.

"Jimin ahjussi, good morning!" MinJun greeted him cheerfully.

"Morning, honey bun... you look so cute today," Jimin flashed his adorable eye smile and squished and kissed my son's cheeks, and I sat by smiling at them.

"Amy, can we leave?" Jimin asked looking at me, and I nodded, smiling.

Jimin drove us to a posh restaurant, and there, we occupied a private table that he had reserved for us.

MinJun sat next to Jimin, and I sat facing them.

"MinJun ah, what would you like to eat today?" Jimin chirped, flipping through the menu book.

"I want gimbap" MinJun replied instantly, clueless about the wide variety of foods that restaurants offer since he loved eating at home, and he would any day choose the food cooked by me over any other specialty foods.

Jimin laughed, making MinJun pout.
"Gimbap? You can have that anytime. Would you like something special? Like wanja jeon? Or kim pi tang? That's like a kimchi pizza." He said, and MinJun's crestfallen face lit up at once upon hearing the word pizza.

"Kimchi pizza? Pizza yay! Okay, I want pizza. With kimchi," Minjun announced, excitedly bouncing in his seat.

"Okay," Jimin laughed and ruffled his hair and ordered a kimchi pizza for MinJun.

"You wanted to talk?" I asked him softly.

"Let MinJun eat first. Then he can play at the amazing play area they have here," he replied loud enough for MinJun to hear.

"Wow! They have a play area here?" MinJun asked, his voice mirroring the surprise on his face.

Jimin nodded.
"Yeah, right there," he pointed to the glass wall beside us, and on the other side of the wall was an amazing indoor play space.

He really did seem to have picked this place on purpose, and whatever it is that he wants to talk about does seem like an interesting and important topic.

The pizza arrived, and MinJun ate more than half of it. Jimin fed him a little, and then MinJun declared that he was full and rushed to the play area.

I waved to him with a smile and showed thumbs up.

"Amy, how have you been?" Jimin asked me in a voice much deeper than his usual.

"I've been okay. What happened?" I was curious, my brain trying to read any possible hints from his eyes.

"Umm... it's big news," he said excitedly, and my heart began racing, my mind frantically narrowing down the possible reasons for his excitement.

"What's it about?" I arched my eyebrows while nervously taking a sip of my juice, my heart already running a marathon on its own.

Jimin said nothing, instead, he just pushed a set of pinned papers across the table towards me. I didn't know what they were, and my face sported a look of utter confusion.

"What's this?" I asked him as I picked up the papers and started to flip through them.

Despite the silence between us being so loud, I could hear the thumping of my heart in my ears, and my eyes shot up at him as soon as I read the first few lines.

DNA PROFILING REPORT

Tested samples from

Kim Taehyung M/26
Amy Jacob F/32
Fetus 26w3d

My stomach twirled at the cartload of bitter memories, words and images that the dreaded report brought to my mind.

"Jimin, I've already seen this," I tried to shove the papers back to him without daring to look up into his eyes.

The haunted papers which ruined my life.

Jimin's hand stopped the papers from sliding towards him, and my eyes lifted to look at him.
"Read it again," he said leaning forward on the table, his hand thrusting the papers forward in my direction. "Fully." He added.

Letting out a defeated sigh, I grabbed the papers and flipped through to the end, since I wouldn't understand the technical details in between anyway.

Inference: 100% paternal and maternal match.

The words that my eyes were seeing were THE TRUTH, my eyes instantly welled up with tears, and I failed to stop them from spilling out.

This shit of a paper came in 6 years late.

My hands and shoulders shook, and my tears fell uncontrollably, my whimpering causing Jimin to gasp in shock and move to my side.

"Amy," Jimin called out, helplessness and desperation evident in his tone.

"Amy, please don't cry. MinJun might see and feel sad. Please," he pleaded as he sat down beside me, shielding me from MinJun's view.

I usually never cried in Minjun's presence, and Jimin knew it too.

Nodding, I sniffed on a few tissues that he handed me and dried my tears while I clutched the papers tight in my other hand.

Regaining my composure after a few seconds, I turned my head to look at him.
"This is what I've known all along. This is what I've already told him... did he see this?" I asked, tilting my head to one side.

Jimin nodded slowly.
"He wanted to get this done."

What??

Letting out an unamused, sarcastic chuckle, I asked him,
"Oh, and now he believes?" I raised my eyebrows.

Jimin let his head drop, expressing the shame he felt for his friend.
"I know he's horrible. But yeah, he believes now. He is shattered, and he wants to meet you and apologize for everything," he said and looked at me.

My eyes drifted beyond Jimin's frame to look at MinJun happily playing on a climbing frame, completely unaware of the turbulence going on this side of the glass wall.

I sat in silence and pondered for a long time.

"Why did he want to get this done now? After all these years..." I demanded an answer to get a better clarity of the situation.

"He saw you yesterday at the toy store. He happens to know MinJun already, but he saw you after all these years, and he realized that MinJun is your son but looks exactly like him. So he insisted on getting the re-profiling done," Jimin narrated calmly.

I guessed it right. The red hair ahjussi and ahjussi at school were Taehyung indeed

"And how did the report turn out this way? This is not what we got back then," I waved the reports in my hand and quizzed him.

"I suspect foul play. I'll surely find out who did it and why they did this," Jimin stated confidently.

I let out a long breath, unable to give him any immediate answers since my mind was a mess at the moment.
"Jimin, I need to think alone," I looked away from him and looked at my hands resting on my lap instead.

He nodded in understanding.
"I can understand, Amy. I just wanted to tell you this news. Taehyung might try to approach you any time. I didn't want you to be caught off-guard... that's why I decided it's best to let you know first."

My eyes lifted to look at Jimin, who literally looked like an angel. His kindness and empathy were beyond human levels.
"Thank you, Jimin. You're really so kind and considerate," I thanked him wholeheartedly, suppressing the upwelling tears.

"You truly deserve to be happy, Amy," he said with a warm smile and patted my head.

I said nothing and just smiled at him very vaguely.

Our meal arrived just then, and he moved back to his seat, and we ate in total silence. I glanced at MinJun from time to time to make sure he was safe.

After the meal, we left the restaurant, and Jimin dropped us at home and left.
