•imagine if you will- emile picani never died, rachel croft was never an arse, and the high school the first generation of the story attended never had any murder scandals. here's a dose of that.

/Beep Beep Beep B-/
A pillow smacked Logan in the face from above and he let out a tired groan, reaching out to his alarm, but the noise stopped before he could turn it off himself. He held the pillow to his face for a moment before removing it and coming face to face with the unthinkable.
"Get up, loser."
Remy. But that last phrase was a lie, his twin brother hanging upside-down from the top of their shared bunk bed was something he was faced with any morning his brother decided to drag his ass out of bed. Logan threw the pillow back, and Remy caught it, then throwing it back up to where it belonged.
"Good morning to you, too."
Remy jumped down. "Get dressed. Big day today."
It certainly was, in some aspects. It was the first day of their senior year of high school, which meant this time next year they'd most certainly be in college, or at least close to it. School now on the mind, Logan hauled his own ass out of bed as well, with a small laugh. "I think you're just excited to see your boyfriend for an entire day, aren't you?"
He scoffed. "Uhm. No shit. But I bet you're excited to see yours, too."
"Patton and I are not dating."
"Yet~..."
With a shared laugh Remy grabbed a pair of clothing they'd laid out last night and started to the bathroom, Logan beginning to get dressed right there. He took a moment to look around his bedroom- pretty cluttered in some aspects, whether it was through decor or the laundry Remy consistently neglected- and wondered what his living situation would be like in college, since that was still fresh in thought. Of course his brother would be with dorming his boyfriend, that wasn't even a question, so perhaps Logan could ask Patton to be his roommate, but who knows what may come from that? Of course, he could always opt to be alone, but he'd rather be with a friend.
After slipping on some sort of space-themed t-shirt Logan made his way downstairs just to be graced with the sight of his brother sprawled out on the couch with a slice of toast in hand, along with both of his parents in the kitchen, preparing breakfast for both their sons and themselves. Logan walked into the kitchen and took a slice of toast. A tub of butter was pushed his way. His mother called out into the living room.
"Remy, are you sure you don't want butter on that? It's gotta be dry, hon."
"I'm going vegan," Remy replied, mouth full. Logan rolled his eyes.
"You went vegan last week."
"I'm serious this time. D'you know what they're gonna have for lunch at school?"
"Probably burgers. Unless you want to eat from the salad bar."
"Ew, no. Fuck that. Nevermind." They proceeded to snap a photo of themselves, likely to send to their boyfriend about their new record of healthy eating. With a sigh, Logan joined him on the couch, finishing off his breakfast quickly and then double-checking he had everything in his bag. Just on time a knock was heard at the door.
"Is that Patton?" Logan and Remy's dad asked from the kitchen. There were noises of agreement from everyone else. It usually went that Patton would show up at the two brothers' house so all three could walk to school together, of course accompanied by Remy's boyfriend once they passed his house as well.
"Well, alright, have fun, you two!" The brothers passed the kitchen and weren't able to escape their mother's hugs, but both only faked a groan through both before being on their way to the door again.
"Remind us to get photos of you after dinner since it's your first day," their dad then called out. Logan opened the front door right after, and right there as he always seemed to be stood Patton.
"Morning!" He said, chipperly, to both of the brothers as they entered his sight line. The two Crofts exited the house with one last wave to their parents.
"Morning, Patton."
"G'morning."
And thus began their walk to school. Logan found that these always seemed to go differently, often depending on the moods of all of them but mostly depending on the mood of Remy. Being the loudest out of their friend group, he did naturally dominate conversation, and if something was on his mind he was going to say it.
"So. Y'all know when homecoming is?"
Ah. And apparently they'd decided to go the shipping-my-brother-and-his-crush-is-literally-the-funniest-thing-in-the-world route today.
"It's usually late October, yeah?" Patton wondered aloud. "Why d'you ask? We have a bit to buy our outfits."
"Eh. We just gotta make it a good one, it'll be our last."
"That's true. But we also have prom for that," Logan nodded along. "We don't have to think about that now, though, really. Who do you guys think will be the first teacher to give out homework?"
Patton laughed. "I have my bets on-"
"I'm probably gonna take Em to both of the dances, what about you guys?"
Remy was clearly not done. The brothers shot each other a look of varying degrees. Patton just stared at them.
"Oh. I've never taken anyone, Remy, I'm not worried about that."
"Me neither."
"Sucks to suck. Imagine being single. And there's my boyfriend's house, right on cue."
The three stopped in front of a house that looked identical to all the other suburban ones on the block, save for some of the lawn decorations and the very distinct pink curtains in one of the second-floor windows. Remy walked up to the front door and knocked, and a moment later Emile was standing in its place. They kissed briefly before Remy dragged the other by the hand back to the group.
They were a bit of an odd group, all in all. Of course, it had started with Logan and Remy, since the two were brothers they'd been close all their life- and strangely so, too, they hardly ever fought. At some point in elementary school the two met Emile, and in middle school began Remy and Emile's six or seven year relationship, one which had started with them saying they loved each other because that's just what couples did to realizing they did legitimately love each other. And though it started out as a sixth-grade relationship, Logan could tell especially through the late night FaceTime calls he'd overheard that nothing was ever happening to separate them. Eventually, once they were in 10th grade a new student got seated next to Remy and through teachers beginning to believe the student and Emile were twins but not Remy and Logan, Patton joined their group. Of course the four had other friends here and there such as Virgil and Roman and his twin Remus, et cetera, but mainly it was only the four.
Once they were at school they did join up with the other three mentioned and began chatting with them before they had to make it to their first period classes. Apparently, as it had been for Logan that morning, college was on everyone's mind.
"I'm still reeling that we're all gonna be legally adults soon enough," Virgil was the first one to speak of it. His boyfriend nodded along.
"The drama department at college is gonna be so new, too! I swear, all of you are the only reason I'm not going off to New York for college."
"Like you could make it to Broadway," Remus snickered. Roman punched him in the arm.
"Are we all planning on going to the same place?" Remy asked.
"I think so," Emile was swinging their hands back and forth, gently. "I'm excited! Though after we get our undergrads I guess I'll be alone for a bit, since I'm going for the doctorate."
"I literally have no idea what I'm gonna major in, what the fuck?" Remy looked at him. Emile laughed.
"You said last week you might be an English major."
"Uhm. Who do you think I am, John Mulaney?"
"No, my dear."
"Mhm," Remy pointed absent-mindedly. "Exactly."
"Well, Emile, perhaps you won't be too alone for now if we're all minoring in the same thing," Logan added.
"That's true. Other colleges in the country have things like Gender and Sexuality Studies for minors but Women's Studies is a good one, too. Wait- what are you majoring in?"
"Education, most likely. Or- well, also astronomy."
"I'm doing education too," Patton smiled. Logan then blushed a bit, feeling Patton's hands come up to his shirt, beginning to fiddle with a safety pin he had stuck there that morning.
"Right, I remember you saying that."
"Yeah. This is fun, too."
"The safety pin?" Emile laughed a bit.
"Yes, duh. I'll major in that, too."
The group laughed a bit. Patton's fingers continued twiddling with it, until Logan gulped.
"Uhm, you... you can keep that, if you want."
A light gasp. "Really?"
"Yes. I have more at home."
"Awe, thank you, Logan! That's sweet."
"You're welcome."
Remy shot him a look, and Logan briefly rolled his eyes. Who could blame him for pining so publicly?
Goodness. If the two of them did end up being roommates Logan might not be able to bare it. He should really ask him out sometime.
The bell announcing that class would be starting in five minutes rang just then, and so the group dispersed, mostly going in different directions, save for the people that had first period together. This included Logan and Remy, and perhaps that was a good thing, Logan needed someone to ask the advice of. Who better than someone who was currently in an ongoing and surprisingly healthy relationship?
They sat down in their seats for the class, next to each other, due to their last names being identical. Logan hummed, fiddling with his shirt in the place that Patton had taken his safety pin.
"Remy?"
"Uh-huh?"
"How might I go about asking someone out?"
Remy laughed, checking the clock- which was thankfully digital, he most likely could not read a normal clock- briefly to see how long they had to talk. "God. That's funny."
"Why is it?"
"Don't know. It's Patton, yeah?"
"Who else would it be?"
"Just double-checking. Mm. Well, he obviously likes you, I'd say you just gotta go for it. Y'know?"
"I... don't know, Remy," he corrected, matter-of-fact like.
"Like- just, next chance you get, pull him aside and ask him on a date. Literally not that hard."
"I suppose that might work, it's just nerve-wracking, which you clearly don't understand."
A chuckle. "Mhm. I'm serious, though, like, just call him pretty or something and ask if he wants to hang out sometime."
Logan hummed once more, and then he sighed, leaning back in his chair a bit. "Alright. I don't know what else I could possibly do."
"Great. Good luck."
"Thank you."
The bell rang.
•~~~~•
The bell kept ringing, throughout the day, of course, until Logan's last period was up and he was able to make his way to the front of the school to meet up with his friends as he always did in past years. It had been a boring day for the most part, since it was the first and they hardly did anything, the school letting the seniors have at least one chill day in the entire year.
But it was simple. They walked to school together, they walked home from school together. A perfect quadruple of friends, or whatever else it may be called.
They began walking, the four of them chatting idly about their day, Remy and Emile's hands laced together and Patton sporting a new safety pin on the pocket of his shirt. As he became more aware of Patton's existence as time went on Logan switched from talking to listening, not having much to say about his own day anyways, since the other three always seemed so much more interesting.
They reached Emile's house first, soon enough, and Remy shot Logan a look that was similar to the one he'd given him before first period. Logan considered it, and then Remy began walking Emile up to his door, leaving the other two alone, for just a moment.
Well. Perhaps it would be easy. If he just went ahead and... did it.
Logan looked over at Patton, who was fiddling with his new safety pin.
"Uhm... if you want more of those I can always get you some," he offered. Patton looked up, a small smile gracing his lips.
"Oh, Lo, you don't have to do that. I'm sure there's some lying around at my house somewhere. I've seen my brother wear some too, he's kinda punk, or whatever it is that... he is. Y'know?"
A small laugh from both of them. "Well, I, I'll save you from having to look. Or steal any."
"I promise you I don't need any more."
"No, it's alright, I like giving you things."
Patton flushed pink, eyes and smile both widening just a bit. "Well, alright, then."
Another shared laugh. Logan glanced up at where his brother was, and he could tell they were stalling- both them and Emile, really. Which, it wasn't an uncommon occurrence since both enjoyed hanging out with each other but Logan knew it was for different reasons this time.
"Er... how booked up is your schedule, then?" Logan decided on asking. He couldn't bare to take his brother's advice and start by calling Patton pretty, even if he was.
"Oh, well none of the extracurriculars have started up yet so I'm free, like, always. Uh, why?"
"I was just..." right, spit it out, "...just wanting to take you on a date sometime, if you'd- if that would be alright. With you."
A few blinks from both of them, and a familiar feeling of nervousness coming from saying something you thought you might never say surfaced within Logan. Patton let out a breath. "A- a date?"
"Yes."
"Oh, wow," he laughed, "y'know, I was getting so sick of waiting, I might've asked you in a week or two."
Oh, thank god. Both of them began laughing once more, slightly awkwardly, and Logan was sure he was blushing at this point, too. "That's a yes, then?"
"Absolutely."
"Alright."
Remy finally made his way back to the two of them, though a bit slowly, assessing the situation. Both then turned to look at him, and Remy stared at their blushed faces for a moment before smirking.
"So?"
"So..?" Patton questioned.
"It went well," Logan rolled his eyes. Remy let out a whoop, and the three began to walk forward.
"Fucking hell, glad that's over. He literally asked me, Patton, he literally asked me in first period, all prissy and proper, how might i go about asking someone out?," Remy mocked, sending a jolt of embarrassment down Logan's spine yet causing a giggle to emerge from Patton.
"Really?"
"Uh-huh. He's insufferable. Gotta love him for that."
Remy proceeded to force the two to hold hands for the remainder of their walk, and upon arriving at the twin's home Patton did give Logan a small peck on the cheek, but other than that nothing more was talked about concerning the two of them. Upon getting in the front door Remy did make sure to make the date known to their parents, though, of course.
"You didn't have to tell them that," was the first thing to come out of Logan's mouth.
"Awe, no, that's cute," his mom said from the living room, husband on the couch next to her. "Are you gonna bring him over for thanksgiving like Remy did with Emile last year?"
Logan shrugged, a bit flustered-ly. "I'm sure he already has plans, he has a big family. We're not official or anything either yet, mom. His brother is also terrifying."
"Got that last bit right," Remy said. "'M going upstairs."
"I'll follow."
The two made it to their room and Logan sat down on his bottom-bunk bed, setting his backpack down on the floor, Remy leaned against a wall for a moment, looking around, not sure what they wanted to do with their free time. Or perhaps they were pondering something else.
"Damn... maybe I am gonna be an English major," he muttered. Logan chuckled.
"Emile was right?"
"I guess. What else could I major in if I wanna write a book someday?"
"Something to do with the book's topic? Some professional authors just don't go to college, I'm sure, as well."
"Eh. If mom and dad are paying for our college I'm not gonna pass up the opportunity, though. Plus, Emile needs a roommate."
Remy made his way over to Logan and sat down next to him. Logan sighed. "I'm probably going to room with Patton. That might've been the only reason I sucked it up and asked him out today."
"You could've. Would've been funny, seeing you pine over him for four years. He'd probably sleep in your bed some nights too just for the sake of friendship. Hell, I'd write a book on that."
Logan leaned against his brother, sighing once more. "Good lord, I am gay."
"Mhm."
Remy's phone went off in his pocket just then, and he pulled it out, Logan glancing over and seeing a text from a number labeled as iPad kid💞, which he knew to be Emile. Logan brought his head up, Remy texting back yes to the text, which was a request to FaceTime.
The call went through, and Emile's face appeared on the screen a moment later, him holding the phone above his head as he laid in bed.
"Hi," Emile said, simply.
"Hey. Say hi to the nerd," the camera was pushed over to Logan for a moment. He waved, and Emile waved back, smiling.
"What do you want, then?" Remy then asked.
"I'm bored. Wanna come over?"
"Absolutely," Remy said without hesitation, standing up. Logan scoffed a bit.
"It's a school night, you know that?" He questioned.
"You think I care?" Remy glanced back at him. "Go text your new boyfriend and see if he wants to hang out with you. Go have your first date. Better tell me how it goes."
Logan sighed. He felt around for his phone in his pocket. "I will, I will."
"Good." Remy turned back to the FaceTime call. "Right, be there in ten. Love you."
"Love you, too," both hung up the call after that. Remy began packing, and Logan wondered whether he was actually planning on staying the night or not. He probably was, good heavens.
Remy said goodbye to Logan and then was out the door, so the latter decided he might as well take his advice yet again. He got out his phone.
Pat
15:33
Hey, are you busy?>
<Noooo, why?
Remy just left to hang out
with Emile and I'm bored now>
<Lol wanna come over?
Should we make
that our first date?>
<Sure:)
Alright, I'll be there
in 15 minutes or so>
Logan wasn't planning on staying the night himself since it was still a school night, so he didn't bother bringing anything but himself and whatever else he carried on him at all times when leaving the house. He said goodbye to his parents and then was on his way, the walk being decently short but worth it either way.
He got to the door and knocked, and of course it was only there he remembered one horrifying thing, which was that Patton's brother's college didn't go back until next week. So it was him who answered the door, and not Patton.
"Logan Croft? What might you be here for?"
Janus wasn't even that terrifying, as had been said by Patton, but it was hard not to be scared of someone so menacing and stoic. He was only a few inches taller than Logan, who stood at 5'10, yet he was definitely the tallest in the Foster family. And who knew where the scar on his face had come from?
"Oh, hi, Janus. Uhm, Patton invited me over." Janus was pretty protective of his brother sometimes too, perhaps Logan should've just lied. Thankfully, Patton's voice was the one he heard next, coming down the stairs in the background.
"Ah- sorry, Jan, should've told you he was coming-" Patton squeezed in front of Janus, looking up and Logan for a moment before smiling, "-Hi, Logan."
"Hi, Patton." Logan smiled a bit as well.
"...Something's going on between you too but I won't ask."
A sigh from both of them. Patton invited Logan in, and the two quickly escaped to the former's room, finding comfort on his bed. Before they had a chance to talk to each other or anything, though, Logan's phone made a noise, and Remy was FaceTiming him. With a sigh he hit the answer button, Patton looking over at the screen.
"Yes?" Logan asked as soon as the call went through.
"Hey, nerd. Just wanted to make sure you made it to your date's house and didn't chicken out."
"Hah- no, I'm here, Remy." Patton got into frame then and waved.
"Hi, Patton!" Emile waved from the side, enthusiastically.
"Hey, Pat. Good work, L. I'll leave you two alone now."
"Thank you."
The call clicked off, and Logan shoved his phone back into his pocket. The two were silent for a moment.
"So... what do you wanna do?" Patton asked, soon enough.
"It's up to you. It's your house."
"That's true. We could play something, I have a Nintendo Switch now!"
"Oh, right, that works." A small smile from both.
Patton went ahead and got it, connecting it to the small TV he had sitting opposite his bed. Both took a joystick from the controller and began playing Snipperclips since Patton had it and it seemed fitting to play it as a first date. Eventually they did end up getting stuck on a level, which they definitely had coming. Logan put his controller down for a moment when Patton started trying to map out how they could easily solve it, and staring at him for a second gave him enough confidence to wrap an arm around his shoulders, which slowly de-railed Patton's thought process until they were staring at each other and Patton admitted defeat over the level. Thus caused laughter from the both of them, so they put the game away and ended up watching tik toks together on Patton's phone. Patton ended up laying his head on Logan's chest, and so they laid down to cuddle a bit as this happened, and Logan decided he'd made the right decision, asking him out that afternoon.
They scrolled on. Patton pressed another kiss to Logan's cheek. Yes, indeed, it had been a good decision.
•~~~~•
