Chapter 13

"I think we should leave, and head to the Black Tooth pack early," Karano said as they all met in the main room of he suite before heading down to breakfast.

"I thought we were staying for the symposium thingies?" Eliza reminded her. She didn't mind heading out early, but it was confusing that her moms wanted to after they talked about needing money to help the pack.

"As nice as that would be to attend, I think we're going to join you at the new pack, and we'll figure out how to make money another time," Hazel said with a smile. "You're our kid, and I know Jack already wants to come up after we talked to him last night, and we can't bear to not have you both around. Lucia would be upset to not see her siblings too. Wesley is seeing who else might want to join us, since we have a couple other pack members that came down from there."

"Oh! I can help with the finances!" Kenzie said quickly as Eliza tried not to break down in tears at the thought of everyone joining them. "They never let the women in the pack fight, but we run all the investments and know all the tricks because the men never cared for that kind of stuff. We can help out your pack with that for sure."

That brought a sigh of relief from everyone except Emerson and Esther who were rubbing sleep out of their eyes. "Can we eat soon? We're hungry." The young teen asked. "I bet the bacon is so yummy!"

"Yeah, we'll go get some food," Eliza promised. "Then we can figure out how to get everyone up to the pack. I don't think we can fit everyone into our rental."

"I still have my key to Rodney's suite. I bet the keys to the SUV we drove down here are in there, and we could take it. It belongs to the pack anyway." Kenzie flashed a smile when she thought about Rodney being gone, as morbid as it might have been.

"Damn, you're full of solutions today, love!" Eliza pulled her close and gave her a noisy kiss. "I bet we could drive up with the kids, and then you three could follow us. We can get the key on the way to get breakfast."

Hazel and Karano both nodded at that solution. "That sounds perfect. We'll get a few clothes for Melashka on the way to the buffet and meet you there."

Melashka nodded happily. "I can't remember the last time I wore clean clothes."

"We should probably do the same for Emerson and Esther," Kenzie asked as she looked at Eliza. "I bet they have no clothes either."

"Yeah, we can do that," agreed Eliza. "We'll all meet you at the buffet after we get everyone settled with clothes and the car."

The plan went without a hitch, though it was a little creepy to be in Rodney's suite and looting the rooms that he and Jackson had stayed in. Once they went through his things, they were happy though. But just as Kenzie had said, the keys were there, as were several thousand dollars in cash between the two. That would certainly help them load the kids up with new clothes!

The gift shop was just what they needed, though there wasn't a huge variety of things to choose from as almost everything was branded with the logo of the resort. But each kid got a few tee shirts with different local wild animals on them, as well as a few hoodies and sweatshirts. The little store even had underwear, just for those people who hadn't packed everything. The little band quickly went back to the suite to drop everything off, and let the kids change into some of the new outfits. They were so happy to be in new clothes, they were almost skipping down the hallway to breakfast a few minutes later.

When the group arrived at breakfast, Melashka was bouncing her leg in anticipation of eating, and then raced for the buffet with the two little ones. "It's going to take weeks for them to get back to normal eating," Hazel giggled as she watched Melashka help to load up the younger siblings with eggs, bacon, and sausages. "They obviously didn't eat much while they were being held in Alaska."

"That is another reason to leave early," Karano mentioned. "We don't need to be around Gavin, because he might stir people up against us. We really don't need another duel."

"He might anyway," Eliza pointed out. "But maybe it won't be as bad if he doesn't see us. He's the one that lied just to prove how tough he is, and now he has to live with his choices."

"But that doesn't mean there won't be others that share his viewpoint." Karano headed to the buffet, with Eliza, Kenzie, and Hazel following along. They were hungry too, though not nearly as famished as the newly freed prisoners.

It wasn't long before the seven of them were sitting happily around both sides of their table eating their food. Melashka, Emerson, and Esther had already gone back for seconds, and every member of the group was feeling better about life.

"I don't think I've ever eaten this well," Melashka groaned in her Russian accent. "I wish I could bring my mother and sister here."

"Maybe we can do that," Hazel suggested. "Once things are all settled down, I bet we could come back if there isn't another conclave. It might be nice to just be here for a vacation." Everyone seemed happy with that suggestion and concentrated on eating the food. The sooner they could get on the road, the better.

"Are we all settled then?" Karano asked.

"Can we take a plate to go?" Melashka wondered. Everyone laughed, but she was completely serious, and only Hazel asking at the front got them four containers to load up. Each of the kids got one, and Melashka took two. She was a growing tiger after all! With the food sorted, it was time to drive. They all said goodbye to Nicholas, who understood them wanting to leave early, and then headed out to the cars.

Rodney had driven down in a blacked out Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Eliza quickly slid behind the wheel because Kenzie didn't have her license yet. But she did know where they were going, so she was the perfect navigator. In the other car, Karano drove over to the Jeep so they could follow them easily enough.

"Okay, who's ready to go meet our new pack?" Eliza asked the two younger teens.

"Yeah! Let's go!" Having a pack where the Alpha would support them felt great to the pair. Evidently their parents had been on the move for years, and they couldn't even remember their original pack. But they already loved the way they were treated by the women who'd rescued them, and knew this was going to be better. They only wished their parents were still around to go with them.

Kenzie was nervous about the fallout of Rodney's death back at the camp, but Eliza assured her over and over that they could handle it. With Karano and Hazel there to help, it would be even safer. "It's going to be tense when we first get there," she explained to Eliza. We'll have to deal with Ryan first, he'll be the angriest for sure. Most of the other males are younger ones who haven't found their mates. The pack barely practiced fighting any more unless it was a friend of Rodney's and got lessons. He never wanted anyone to be able to stand up to him. There were a few times where rogues got in and stole things, and we didn't have enough guards to do anything. I know you have a lot of good rogues in your pack, but they're not all that way. Or maybe they just didn't like Rodney, which would also make sense."

Eliza thought about that for a bit. She wasn't foolish to think that all rogues had a heart of gold, but many were just trying to get by. With a pack leader like Rodney, it would make sense that rogues would be in the area. Some of them might have fled his pack, and then realized they could live off them, while others might know they were easy prey. He was lucky a large band of rogues hadn't just taken them over. Honestly, in the old days, a rival pack would have taken them over. But with the numbers of packs and wolves dwindling, there were fewer large wars like that.

"We'll see if we can track down the rogues to see what their motivation is. I don't want to be their target, but we won't kill them out of hand."

Kenzie smiled over at her mate, nodding in agreement. She could already feel herself falling for her, which wasn't surprising after getting to know each other as kids and then knowing they would be life partners regardless. But when she heard her discussing a solid rogue solution that might benefit everyone, she knew that the moon goddess had given her a mate who was as wise as she was powerful and sexy. She'd hit the jackpot.

Back in the car that was following them, there was a very different conversation happening. "Where exactly is your camp again?" Hazel wondered as she looked at the map of Russia on her phone.

"It is to the southwest of the Verkhoyansk mountains in northeast Russia. I don't know the closest town, but if we can get close, I will be able to find it from scent alone."

"We just have to get there." Karano was at a loss as to how to get all the way to Russia. She and Hazel could fly, but Melashka didn't even exist when it came to global governments and had no identification at all. None of the people in the pack did. They could go the reverse way that Melashka had, but that seemed risky and slow.

Melashka snarled from the back seat. "I had a way to get help, a whistle that would summon Selkies, but it was stolen by Gavin. I don't know where it is now."

"Selkies?" Hazel wondered aloud. "What is that?"

"They're supernatural beings like us, but they're a human that can take the form of a seal. But, not a were-seal, because they have to remove a skin. It's pretty cool, and they really helped me get to America when I was on my way here. I think they could help us get back too, but we'll have to get lucky enough to meet them," Melashka explained.

"Or get your whistle back," pointed out Karano. "Maybe we'll need to pay Gavin's pack a visit and retrieve it, then see if we can get the help that we need to rescue your family.

"I can't see him being all too happy to see you," Hazel commented.

"But I bet he won't want to lose another arm either," Karano pointed out with a grin. "Then we go get the rest of our new pack."

In the back seat, Melashka felt a new surge of excitement. She was finally going to get her family to safety!
