Chapter 2
*Robin Douglas's POV:
In my last class of the day in English, I made the decision to stay after school for coach class in algebra 1 to get some help with homework.
I was finally out of out-of-school suspension. Kimberly was back from in-school suspension and kept giving me dirty looks all throughout the day.
I didn't pay her any attention though, she could get this butt whooping again if she wanted to.
But anyways, I had a decent day. Nobody really said anything to me, which is pretty usual.
My two best friends Beval and Gaia were the only ones who associated with me in this school.
Most of the people at school saw me as an intimidating monster.
Many people were afraid of me, not only because of my power, but also because I was tough, aggressive and had a serious facial expression. My attitude was pretty terrible as well and I had a tendency to stay in fights. I didn't take shit from anyone.
To the bullies in the school, I was seen as an arch enemy.
To the others, I was seen as a monster.
What's crazy was that even though I defended the lower class of the school against bullies, they still feared me.
So I did all of it for nothing...well, if you think about it, it wasn't just for nothing. Either way, if the victims were scared of me or not, bullying was wrong and it shouldn't happen to anyone. Not even bullies themselves.
But to get back on topic, English was a long, boring period. We were currently reading "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare.
I swear, that book was so cheesy it's not even funny. What makes it worse was that Juliet was actually 13 and Romeo was 18. But that was the norm back then. A gross one.
As I was dozing off while the teacher was reading from the book out loud to the class, the bell rang for dismissal.
It kind of scared me out of my slumber, but I was still happy to hear it.
"Yes!" I cheered as I closed the book and placed it back on the shelf with the rest of the books.
I grabbed my things, rushed out of the classroom and approached my locker, which was literally right across the hall from my English classroom.
"Hey Robin!" my best friend Gaia shouted as she skipped over to me.
"Hey Gi Gi" I smiled.
"Are you staying for coach class in algebra? I am."
"Yeah, I was going to. I need help with my homework" I replied before taking out my book bag and slamming the locker shut.
"I need help with the topic we're learning about. I scored a 50% on the test. I'm usually great at math, but not this unit. Yay me" Gaia frowned.
We began making our way to Ms. Belowski's class.
As we made our way, the students as they were walking, moved to the far other side of the hallway, scared to be near us.
"Hey, where is Beval? He is usually always with you" I asked Gaia, not paying the students any mind.
"Oh I don't know. I didn't see him by his locker. He must've went straight home" Gaia shrugged.
"Dang, he probably had to help his parents out with the restura-"
"Hey girls, wait up!"
We stopped in our tracks, turned around and saw Beval running over to us.
His hair was flowing, his braces shinned as he smiled.
Many of the female students that were passing by us went from scared to in love within several seconds. Some were staring at him in awe, others were whispering to their friends and giggling.
"Where are you two fools going?" he sneered as he caught up to us.
"I don't know, away from you" I replied with an eye roll as I began walking again.
"Ha-ha-haa, wow that was so funny, I forgot to laugh" Beval said to me with a blank stare as he wrapped his arms around us.
"I wasn't trying to be funny" I snapped back.
"But seriously, where are you guys going?"
"We are headed to coach class in algebra 1" Gaia answered with a proud smile.
"Really? I'll come along."
"Why?! You're good at math. You don't need coach class" I stated as I furrowed my eyebrows at him.
"I don't wanna walk home alone. Plus, why not practice something you're already good at?"
"Well, hm, you gotta point" I said back to him as I stroked my chin.
"The more, the merrier" Gaia smiled as she began skipping.
"Oh my gosh, he is so cute" I heard a girl whisper to another, talking about Beval.
"I know, but he was experimented on though. I can't date an experimented person. I'm scared of those freaks. They might destroy the school or something" the other girl responded.
I made a death glare at the two girls as I made a warning flame come from my palm, my orange eyes lit up in the process.
My glare along with the flame, scared them out of their sandals. They ran away, shrieking in fear.
"Hey Val, it seems like most of the female students in our grade are absolutely head over heels in love with you" I stated to Beval, elbowing him continuously, pretending my encounter with the girls never happened.
What I said didn't affect him in any way.
"Yeah I know, I don't really find most of them attractive though. The only girl I actually like in this school is Mina."
"Why don't you just talk to her? Maybe she will like you. With your looks, you just might sweep her off her feet" Gaia said with a twirl.
He looked at her.
"I don't know Gaia. She might get freaked out by me. My eye color might scare her awa-"
As we were about to turn the corner into another hallway, another girl came from that hallway and accidentally bumped into Beval.
Her books dropped and scattered all over the floor.
Me, Gaia and Beval, crouched down and helped her pick up her things.
"I'm really sorry, I've should've been watching where I was going" Beval apologized as we stood back up to hand her her things...only to find out that the girl was Mina.
"Oh it's alright, really. I should've been watching where I was going instead of looking down at my phone, texting" she giggled. "I'm such a clutz."
I along with Gaia just acted normal. To us, she was just a regular girl, who so happened to be popular.
But Beval, man, he was sweating. He was looking down, his heart was racing and he was stuttering words.
Mina looked at him as if he was crazy.
"Ummm, is he okay?" she asked me and Gaia, refusing to look away from Beval.
I could tell she was beyond uncomfortable.
"Yeah he's fine, he's just tired. It's been a pretty long day. We have to hurry now, we have coach class" Gaia explained quickly as she grabbed Beval's arm and tried to yank him away.
"Oh okay, thanks for the help" she waved.
"Mina! Over here!" a girl, along with another waved.
"Coming!" she yelled out.
She turned back to us.
"Nice meeting you three. Bye" she waved once more before running over to her friends.
"No problem" Gaia smiled with a wave.
As Mina proceeded to walk away with her friends, I could've sworn that one of the girls asked her: "Mina, why were you talking to those freaks? They could kill you."
I swear, I should've ripped her blonde extensions out right from her scalp. Snoobish bimbo.
Once Mina was out of sight, me and Gaia both looked at Beval.
"That could've been your chance, you idiot!" I yelled at him, slapping him on his arm, cutting him out of his trance.
"Oww, what did I do?!" Beval yelled as he rubbed his arm.
"You could have made your move right then and there" I said.
"I was scared. I didn't know what to say or do and I-ugghhhh. Now she probably thinks I'm a weirdo" Beval grunted as he face-palmed himself.
"Well if you think about it, you kind of are a weirdo" Gaia claimed, trying to cheer him up.
Beval gave her the side eye.
"You're...not...helping" he responded. "I'll talk to her once I get a chance."
"You've been saying that for the last three years now" I groaned. "Her friends are straight garbage! Who are they to ask her why she was talking to us?! She can do what she wants! She isn't their puppet!" I ranted.
Beval placed his hands into his pockets.
"It was surprising though, Mina was so nice. Most people would've probably ran away from us once they found out that we were the ones helping them with their stuff" Beval said as he looked down at the ground.
"True, but maybe she was just being nice for the moment" Gaia shrugged.
"Yea, I guess you're right" Beval sighed as he ruffled through his wavy brown hair.
"Guys, let's hurry up and get to coach class, I don't want to be stuck in this New York style human traffic" I insisted as I began walking.
Gaia and Beval followed along.
Even though it was about seven minutes after the bell rung, the hallways were still crowded with students trying to leave, so it took us a good amount of time to make it to Ms. Belowski's room on the third floor.
We walked into her room and placed our things down on the desks. We sat down on the left side of the room near the back.
Ms. Belowski was pacing around the room, getting things organized.
"Is everything okay Ms. Belowski?" Gaia asked her.
"Uh, yeah, uh, everything is fine. I'm just getting everything back in order, the last class tore the room apart, haha" she laughed nervously.
"We can help you if you'd like" Beval insisted.
"No, no, I'm fine, really."
I could tell she was overwhelmed, being a teacher in a school like this was probably hard.
One thing I will never ever be is a teacher. I'll just stick to being a fashion designer or a professional soccer player.
Being a teacher just sounds straight boring and stressful. You deal with kids who cut class, are misbehaved, and who are as dumb as door knobs and still won't understand something even after the 15th time you explained it.
I might've ended up having a panic attack.
"Hey Robin" Gaia called out, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah?"
"Remember the boy you told us about? The one you stood up for about three days ago?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Did you ever find him or seen him around the school after that?"
"No. Today was my first day back from suspension and I haven't seen him at all today. It's just that I can't stop thinking about his eyes."
Beval gave me a look.
"Yeah I know, you probably think that he just had on contacts, but something is telling me that they were 100% natural. Maybe we aren't the only ones that were experimented on at this school, maybe he too was experimented on. But even better, what if he can control an element like we can? Most of the experimented do not have an unusual eye color for their power, so there's evidence he might can control an element like us" I stated as I rested my head on my hands.
"There's a possibility. Think about it, if he had an unusual eye color, then it is possible that he was experimented on as a baby" Beval explained.
"I didn't even get his name sadly, he was pretty cute."
"You, Robin? Calling someone cute? Now that's a start" Gaia said as she rapidly blinked her eyes in disbelief. She began taking out a capri-sun from her book bag.
"Oh shut up Gaia, I have feelings in case you didn't know" I said in a serious tone as I crossed my arms and legs.
"Robin, you're tough, impetuous and a huge tomboy, so I would never guess you would be the one calling a boy-"
Gaia stopped talking as soon as she saw that I was mocking her movements.
"Uh, do you mind?!" Gaia asked, trying to be serious but accidentally let out a giggle.
"DO yOu MiNd?!" I mocked.
"Kids, I will be right back, I am going to the teacher's lounge" Ms. Belowski told us as she grabbed some things.
"Okay" we said to her.
"Sooooo, what's the moves for this weekend?" Gaia asked.
"I don't know, do you want to go to my house and play GTA?" I suggested.
"No, we did that last weekend. Oh! How about we chill near the shore of the bay tonight and watch the pretty lights glow from the Golden Gate Bridge?" Gaia suggested.
"Nah, that doesn't really sound like fun. We'll just decide what to do later" Beval insisted as he laid back on his chair.
I blew my breath and started drawing on my binder. There was nothing else to talk about, so the three of us stayed silent for several moments.
"Soooo, I like dogs" Gaia stated randomly with a goofy smile.
We looked at her.
"Okay?" I said in confusion.
"I was just trying to start a conversation."
"But why dogs?" Beval giggled.
"I don't know, it just came to mind" Gaia responded as she crossed her arms and pouted.
"Alrighty then, well I like the color red" I said proudly.
"Nahhh, green is the way to go" Gaia protested.
"Ha! Yea right, everyone knows purple is the best color out there" Beval spoke up.
Next thing you know, we were arguing about what colors were the best. I know, it was a stupid argument, but it wasn't like we had anything else better to do while we were waiting on the teacher.
As we were arguing, the classroom door opened and a black haired boy came in. I didn't really pay much attention to him though.
Me and my friends continued to argue and debate, until I felt eyes on me several moments later.
I looked over at the boy and saw that he was staring dead at me.
I stared back at him.
That's when I realized something.
"It's him, it's the guy from the other day" I thought to myself.
My friends notice I was staring at him and looked back at him.
His eyes were deep, yet calming. They were an ocean blue color.
A blue that wasn't common in most people that had blue eyes.
The color was unnatural and but somehow natural. Like I said before, I was almost 100% sure he didn't have contacts on.
It was a pretty ocean blue, as if it might've drowned if I kept looking into them.
He was a slender East Asian guy with short, straight black hair and tan skin. He had on a dark blue and yellow striped shirt with black skinny jeans and dark blue sneakers. He had an awkward vibe to him.
After about a few moments of staring at one another, the boy spoke up.
"Uhh....hi" he smiled in a wimpy tone of voice.
"Hello" I replied with a monotone voice as I looked him up and down.
Out of the blue, Gaia called him over to sit with us.
"Why are you sitting all the way over there? Come sit with us!" she smiled, her dimples forming in her cheeks.
She was kind, even to the people who didn't like her, so I honestly wasn't surprised when she did that. But at the same time, I really wasn't in the mood to engage in conversation with a stranger.
