Chapter 16

*Robin Douglas's POV:

There was an intense pain in my head, like a severe headache.

I moaned in pain as I tried to touch my head to rub it, but I couldn't because my hands were tied behind my back.

I was confused.

"What?!" I thought to myself.

I could hear whimpering and crying next to me. It sounded like Gaia.

I opened my eyes and was in devastation at what I saw.

We were sitting on a bench in the back of a F.E.M.A van.

The room was spinning, and my vision was kind of blurry but I could still clearly see that Shimizu and Beval were sitting on the bench across from us, hands tied behind their backs and their mouths were tapped.

Shimizu looked as if he was sleeping. But then I looked at his arm and saw a tranquilizer bullet. That's when I realized that he was unconscious, a guard must've shot him for trying to fight back.

Beval was grunting, trying to wiggle the rope from his wrist by rubbing them together, but to no avail.

I realized that my mouth was tapped as well. I couldn't speak, all I could do was moan and grunt.

I looked at the window on the back doors of the van and saw that we were on the highway.

I tried to remember how we got in here, but then it finally came to me: Mina and her dad set us up and the F.E.M.A officers took us away. But first, they injected something into us. I didn't know what.

I tried to use my powers to burn off the rope that was keeping my hands tied, but my powers weren't working for some odd reason. It was probably because of what those officers had injected into me.

They didn't want us to use our powers, so they injected an unknown chemical into us so we would be defenseless.

I moaned out Beval's name and he looked at me.

I nodded at the tranquilizer bullet that was injected into Shimizu's arm.

Beval looked at Shimizu's arm and already knew what I wanted him to do.

I figured that if he pulled out the bullet, Shimizu would come back to consciousness.

Beval scooted over and turned his back to face Shimizu so his hand could pull out the tranquilizer bullet.

I looked up at the top corner of the wall and saw a camera looking right at us. I was hoping that they weren't watching us at this moment, but there was a big possibility that they were.

"Hurry Beval" I moaned.

After several long seconds of slowly taking the tranquilizer bullet out of his arm, Beval succeeded and tossed the bullet on the ground.

"Sit down and stay put!" An officer yelled at us after he opened a tiny window from the front of the van.

Beval wasn't taking any chances, so he quickly sat back down without moaning a word.

We watched Shimizu to see if it worked and sure enough, it did.

A minute later, Shimizu regained consciousness, but once he was aware of what was going on, he started panicking.

I tried to calm Shimizu down but because I was tied up, I couldn't do much to calm him down.

He was moaning and grunting like crazy trying to say something to us, but we couldn't make it out.

He looked around the van and at us, that's when he remembered everything that had happened and realized that this was it. He lowered his head in defeat.

We were done for, we were going to die soon, and there was nothing we could do about it, and it was all because of Mina. That bitch!

For the next hour we just sat there, waiting for the worse.

I was thinking about the things I could have done differently, I thought about some of my regrets, my fears, my dreams, my family, my friends, myself.

I thought about how our family would react to my death and how my friends family would react to theirs.

I thought about what would happen to me once I die.

Will that be it?

Will I be reincarnated?

Will I go to heaven?

Will I go to hell?

We just spent the last hour or two in silence, just looking at each other as the van was driving to the extermination camp.

We wanted to give each other one last good look before it was it.

The van suddenly make a sharp right turn.

I looked out of the window a second time and saw that we were passing what looked to be the opening gates of a barbed wire fence that surrounded an area of land.

The F.E.M.A officers that were guarding the front gate had AK47s.

A minute later, the vehicle suddenly stopped moving.

I heard the van doors slam and fast footsteps approach the back of the van.

The back doors of the van opened and the F.E.M.A officers rushed in and grabbed us.

I screamed out in fear; something I usually didn't do, and unsuccessfully tried to wiggle myself out of the guard's arms.

They dragged us out of the van. The sun almost blinded me, but as my sight began to adjust, I realized we were at the Extermination Camp. I could see it from a distance.

I was expecting it to look like a concentration camp, but to my surprise it didn't look anything like one. There was no smoke rising from it, there were no people doing harsh labor work, or anything concentration camp related.

The only thing it had in common with a concentration camp was the fact that a tall barbed wired fence surrounding the place.

It looked like a summer camp, with cabins that looked like little houses.

It looked like a happy place from the outside. But I knew that inside the camp lied something way more sinister.

The officers grabbed us and ripped the tape from our mouths and untied us.

They guided us towards a building. It was the front office of the camp.

The officers kept their guns up and pointing at us, just in case if we try something.

"No! No! I don't wanna die! Please!" Gaia cried and pleaded as she turned towards the guards.

"Shut up!" An officer screamed at Gaia as he shoved her with his gun, which made her fall.

Me and Beval helped her back up and I held her hand.

"It's gonna be alright Gaia. Please, just stay strong guys, don't show any fear" I said her, and to my friends.

There were F.E.M.A guards carrying guns, guarding the doors to the building. They opened the doors for us.

The officers that were guiding us to the office pushed us in with the back of their guns.

There was an old woman sitting at a desk. She had short, curly, grayish- white hair. Her skin was pale and she wore a professional office attire; a navy blue pencil skirt, a white linen long-sleeve top, and black 3 inch heels to match. The diamond eye rings she had on sparkled, but this woman's vibe was far from welcoming.

"Sit down!" one of the guards demanded.

We quickly sat down on the chairs that were right next to the door.

"What happens in this building?" Gaia whispered to us.

"I don't know, but I don't think I want to know either" I answered quietly, keeping my eye on the officers.

"I'm hoping that Danny is still alive and if he is, I wonder if he is at this camp" Shimizu whispered, thinking out loud.

"Shimizu, this isn't the time to be thinking about that right now" I quietly said to him in frustration.

"But maybe he can help us come up with a plan to try to escape" Shimizu responded.

Me, Gaia and Beval looked at the front desk.

The officers and the lady were discussing something that I honestly couldn't make out, probably about what to do with us.

"Wait here! Guards will come to get you!" One of the officers said before they left out the building.

We sat still and looked at each other, I grabbed on to Shimizu's hand, Shimizu grabbed on to Gaia's and Gaia grabbed on to Beval's. We were ready for whatever was about to come.

"I love you guys, you are my best friends and always will be. Because of you, I got out of my comfort zone and started becoming free and more open minded, I started having fun and stopped being so boring" Shimizu disclosed as he busted out in tears.

"If I had never met you guys, I don't know where I would be, you guys keep me going and are the reason why I have faith in life, you guys gave me a reason to live" I revealed as I broke down in tears as well.

This was actually the first time I remembered crying.

"You guys are a blessing to me, I could've never asked for better friends, you guys brought joy and happiness into my life and was always there for me through thick and thin. Shimizu, Gaia and Robin, I am sorry for being so sarcastic to you guys and teasing you guys so much" Beval apologized, trying to hold in tears.

"I'm sorry for threatening and being physical with you guys so much. I was just being an asshole" I apologized as well while wiping tears away.

"It's ok Robin, we didn't take it personally. You were just being Robin. Beval, your sarcasm is what makes you you, and I love you either way. I love all of you guys and when I go on to the afterlife, I hope to see you all there. But if I don't, I will never forget you guys" Gaia said, starting to break down. "No friend could ever replace you guys, just like Beval said: you guys are blessings to my life. Shimizu, we learned so much from you and we learned more about the world because of you. Robin, you have protected us, you taught us how to fight and how to be headstrong. You stood up for us when we couldn't stand up for ourselves. Beval, you added comedy and style to our friendship, even though you were Robin's punching bag. You mean a lot to us, you mean a lot to me, and therefore Beval, there is something I need to confess."

Beval wiped his tears away.

"Yeah?"

"I....I...I lo-"

"Keep quiet!" the lady scowled at us, interrupting Gaia.

Suddenly, we heard a phone ring. The ring was pretty loud and was coming from the front desk.

The lady picked it up.

"Hello? Yes, we have more prisoners down here for you, I know, I know, the camp is getting full I know, but there's only four here, alright, alright, okay bye" the lady at the front desk spoke on the phone before hanging up and glaring at us. Her gray eyes looked into our soul, judging us from a distance.

"Back in the day, life was better when you Super Humans weren't around. It was peaceful and we lived in harmony. We could walk down the street and not have to worry about getting harmed or slaughtered by people like you" The lady said to us in anger, reminiscing on the past. "But once you came along in the 90s, everything changed. The crime rate went up, homicides tripled, and chaos was everywhere. Everywhere you go you kill, steal and destroy. But no, you all want to be accepted, but I'll tell you what: no one will ever accept you. You are the spawns of Satan himself and I hope you four will burn in hell for all of eternity and pay the price for what you have done to humanity."

We sat there, staring at her, flabbergasted.

How could an old woman say such hurtful things? What a hag! She's just mad because she's flabby, wrinkly and looks like Bloodhound in the face.

"What are they going to do with us? I'm scared, I'm so scared" Gaia whimpered as she trembled.

"Don't let them see you afraid, don't let them see you cry" I whispered to Gaia as I grabbed her hand.

We all embraced each other for what felt like forever, knowing that this would probably be the last time we would ever do so.

About two minutes later, eight guards came to the front office, ready to take us to our fate.

"They're over there" the lady at the front desk said as she pointed her wrinkled finger at us.

"Alright, let's take them" one of the guards said, approaching us.

They grabbed us by arms and proceeded to take us to an unknown place.

They took us from the front office into a hallway filled with shut doors. The hallway lights were flickering on and off.

Me and my friends were silent. There was nothing else to say. We had already said everything we needed to say back at the front office.

They took us up the stairs to the next level of the building. It was a long hallway, just like downstairs, but this time, the doors were closed and I could hear muffled screaming of people in pain.

The screams were traumatizing and it stuck with me. It was screams of desperation, screams of pain, screams of hopelessness.

That's when the guards decided to separate me and my friends and put us in separate rooms.

There was no use fighting back, I just looked at my friends one last time.

"Goodbye" I whispered to them.

Before the guards took me inside of the room, I saw a brunette girl being held by her arms as she was taken out of a room next to the room I was going into.

"You good there Officer Colbert?" One of the guards that was holding my arm said.

"Well, she's a fighter, I'll tell you that" Officer Colbert replied with a chuckle, he along with another guard still holding her arms.

She was looking down and her straight brunette bangs were covering her face, so I couldn't tell who she was.

"Really? Well, this one right here is surely submissive" the guard holding my left arm responded as he patted the top of my head.

I growled at him.

I looked at the girl's arm and saw that the number "50" was branded into it.

Officer Colbert, the other officer and the girl began heading their way. The guard held the girl's arm tighter, she whimpered in pain.

She flipped her hair out of her face and that's when I realized she actually looked familiar.

She looked back at me and that's when I realized who it was.

"Kimberly?" I shouted out at her.

Once she realized it was me, her eyes got wide.

"Robin?!" she yelled back in shock.

If it wasn't for Kimberly, I would've never met Shimizu. Even though I beat her up for messing with him, I was still extremely glad to see her. But why was she at this camp? Was she an experi-baby?!

But before Kimberly or I could say anything else, the guards yanked me inside the room.

"Looks like you two know each other. Well lucky you, you'll have a nice friend in cabin 50 until it's your time to be exterminated" one of the guards laughed before shutting the door.

"Wait, I'm not going to die?!" I asked.

"Not yet you aren't, you're just going to get branded with the number of the cabin that you will be staying in" one of the guards told me.

"The average time a prisoner between the ages of 6-22 spends here is about two weeks. Children 5 years old and under are exterminated immediately once they come to this camp. Enjoy these two weeks while you can, haha" the other officer cruelly laughed.

I couldn't believe how cruel these people were, it's like human life didn't matter anymore. It was like it was disposable and useless. Those poor babies, those poor toddlers.

I looked at their tags. The names of the guards were Officer Charles and Officer Davis.

Officer Charles was a Hispanic guy who looked to be in his middle thirties. He was really tall, muscular and had Carmel skin, practically bald and always had an intimidating look, as if he knew everything you were thinking.

Officer Davis was a Caucasian guy with blonde thinning hair, pale skin and had rough features, he looked to be in his late thirties. He was short, muscular and had tons of tattoos.

In the room we were in, the walls were white. There was some hospital equipment, a grill with a fire coming from it, and no windows. But what stood out was the wooden table in the middle of the room that had straps for the hands and feet.

"Lay down on the top" Officer Charles demanded as he pointed.

I slowly crawled on top and laid down on the wooden table.

Officer Davis trapped my ankles and my wrist tightly so I wouldn't be able to move.

Even though I was trembling in fear, I had to be brave, I had to toughen up and take it like a girl, it could've been worse after all. I had to show no fear but instead numbness, I couldn't let them see me panic, it was just pain after all. Nothing more, nothing less.

Officer Charles took the branding iron out of a fire and shook it a little. The branding iron was shaped like the number fifty and was red hot, it was bright, sizzling, and smoke was rising from it.

Officer Charles had on heat resistant gloves and a rusty metal mask to protect himself. He slowly started to make his way towards me with the branding iron.

Suddenly, I heard a loud scream from another room.

It was Gaia.

Then I heard two others scream.

It was Shimizu and Beval, they were getting branded before me.

That's what broke me, that's when fear overtook me.

I struggled and squirmed and tried
to free myself but I couldn't.

I wasn't strong enough, and even if I manage to free myself, Officer Davis would've shot me dead because he was pointing a gun at me, making sure I didn't try anything.

"No! No! Please no!" I cried about as I wiggled around, trying to do everything in my power to stop this.

"Look little girl, let's make this quick, I don't have all day, so you're going to have to keep still and take it like a man!" Officer Charles scowled at me as the branding iron was only a foot away from my arm. I could feel its intense heat.

"No! No! Stop! Please stop! Stop!" I screamed out in fear.

I scrunched up my face and clenched my fist, prepared to face probably the worst pain a human could ever experience.

Officer Charles quickly placed the branding iron on my arm and pressed down, putting pressure on it.

I screamed, kicked and cried out in pain at the very top of my lungs as the branding iron was burning through my flesh.

That was the worst pain I had ever experienced in my life. It was intense, it was horrid.

For those ten seconds that the branding iron was on my skin, I felt suicidal. I wanted to die at that moment because I knew death would've been better than experiencing that pain.

I will never forget how it felt. Never.

After the branding, Officer Charles took the branding iron and placed it down on a counter.

I was in so much pain, I was whimpering and still crying.

Officer Charles and Davis proceeded to take the straps off of me.

Because of the pain, I couldn't move my right arm very much.

The two officers grabbed me by the arms.

I yelled out in pain as Officer Charles grabbed the arm that I was branded on and took me out of the room into the hallway.

As they were taking me down the hallway, I saw Gaia and two guards leave a room.

I turned around and looked at her.

Gaia looked like she was in so much pain. She was whimpering and groaning.

On her left arm was a bloody, burnt number forty-five.

Gaia slowly made eye contact with me.

She and two guards that were with her were following me and Officer Charles and Davis.

Seconds later, once we reached the near end of the hallway, I saw Shimizu and Beval along with the guards that were with them leave the rooms that they were in.

They looked like they were in more pain that Gaia.

Beval was grunted in pain and Shimizu was just silent, trembling.

I could see their branding marks.

Beval's said twenty-three.

Shimizu's said ten.

"Turn back around!" Officer Davis yelled at me as he slapped my neck.

I flinched in pain and turned back without hesitation. I started to wonder where were they taking us.

"Were they taking us to our Cabins? If so, what will we do? Will we just wait until it's our time to die?" I thought to myself.

I had so many questions that I honestly did not want to be answered.
