Chapter 14

*Gaia King's POV:

I couldn't sleep, too much had been going on for me to be able to sleep, everybody was dozing off instead of me.

It was two in the morning and I was sitting down on the floor in front of the bed watching the show "The Big Bang Theory". I never really got in to the show that much, but it was kind of funny.

It was really cold down here, so I was shivering like crazy. It had to be about sixty-five degrees. If somebody was going to catch a cold, it was probably going to be me.

I didn't want to sleep on the bed, mainly because Robin's sleeping was just as wild as her personality, but also because I wasn't used to sharing a bed, therefore, my idea was to sleep on the floor, good thing the floor was carpet.

Because there was only one blanket and my friends were using it, I had to use my coat as a blanket, and yes, it sucked.

After the show went off, I turned off the TV and laid down on the floor, placing my coat over me.

As I was preparing to doze off, I was thinking about everything that happened, from the time we met Shimizu to now.

From the coach class, to the sleepover, to the upper-class restaurant, to meeting Danny, to Mina's party, to me being honest with myself about my crush on Beval, these pass few months had just been crazy.

I don't really remember how these feelings for Beval came to be, all I knew was that I couldn't tell Robin, Shimizu, or even Beval himself about it because I felt like it would cause awkwardness between our friendship.

But then I had to think to myself, we were best friends till the end, and nothing could change that, not even a secret like that.

Robin and Beval knew everything about me, Shimizu was still in the process of that.

Robin and Beval knew almost every secret except for this one, and unfortunately, I didn't think I was going to tell them about it any time soon. I didn't want to risk my friendship with Beval over a secret.

Even though I felt emotionally better when I confessed to myself , I still condemned myself for feeling that way. I felt like it was wrong, he was my best friend, not my secret admirer, well, he kind of was, but it was still wrong.

He liked Mina. He would never like me, he saw me as a best friend, not a girlfriend. I was honestly better off not knowing my feelings, even though back then, I was suffering emotionally.

This feeling the psychologist called "romantic love" was so weird and taboo. He was my best friend, I wasn't supposed to love him in that way. Out of all people, why him? They say you can't help who you fall in love with, but why him? Why at this particular time?

Before I could fully shut my eyes, I felt a tap on my arm. It was random so it scared me a little, come to find out, it was only Robin.

"Hey, Gaia, why are you laying down here?" she asked as she peeked down at me from the bed.

"Because you're a wild sleeper" I looked up at her and said bluntly.

"Gee, I can't be that bad to the point of you sleeping on the floor."

"Are you sure about that? I mean, you were laying on top of Shimizu and Beval" I pointed.

Robin looked down and saw that she was sitting on them.

"Robin if you don't get your heavy ass off of me! You're hurting my back!" Beval scowled as he woke up.

He pushed Robin off of him, resulting in her falling off the bed.

Robin grunted in pain and started growling as she gave Beval a death glare.

That's when I though to myself: "Uh oh, this can't be good"

And it wasn't.

Robin quickly got back up and grabbed Beval's hair while he was completely off guard and dragged him out of the bed. The two started fighting.

All of the commotion woke Shimizu up. He quickly turned on the light and wiggled his glasses on his face.

"What on earth is going on here?!" he asked before getting out of bed.

"Robin and Beval are fighting, as usual" I said to him as I was trying to break it up.

"For best friends, they sure do fight a lot."

"They have been this way since 1st grade, it's their way of showing how much they care for one another. It's called tough love" I said to Shimizu as I struggled to get Robin off of Beval.

"Really?" Shimizu responded as he placed his hands on his hips and watched.

"Can I get a little help here?!" I asked Shimizu, grunting as I tried to pull Robin off Beval.

"Oh sure!" He said, snapping out of his gaze and running over to help.

After about several tiring seconds, me and Shimizu finally manage to break up the fight.

"Guys, please calm down" I pleaded, trying to hold Robin back.

"Look, this isn't the time to fight, we have more important things to worry about than ripping each others hair out!" Shimizu yelled in frustration as he held Beval back.

"Mizu is right, we all just need to chill out and go back to sleep. We had enough craziness for a day" I grunted as I struggled to hold Robin back.

It took a while, but moments later, Robin and Beval finally calmed down.

"Whatever" Robin mumbled as she stormed towards the bed without saying another word. She was obviously upset.

She gave Beval an evil look and laid back down.

"I'll apologize to her in the morning" Beval sighed and mumbled. He stretched his back and groaned. "That was my fault. I should've never pushed her off the bed like that" he continued as he as he ran his fingers through his beautiful, wavy, shoulder-length hair.

I just smiled at him in response.

"Well, now that that's over, I'm going back to bed", Shimizu yawned as he walked over to the bed. But before he laid down, he made up his mind to check on Robin.

"Hey, hey Robin, are you okay?" he asked as he poked Robin's cheek, only to get his hand slapped.

"Don't touch me Mizzo, I'm not in the mood" Robin scowled.

"Geez, sorry. I was just seeing if you were okay."

"I'm fine. Thanks."

Shimizu sighed and awkwardly laid down next to Robin.

"Night guys" Shimizu said before turning off the light, leaving us in the dark.

"Goodnight" we replied.

It was just me and Beval that were the only ones awake now. It was a little creepy because we were standing in the middle of the room in the pitch dark, so I decided to bring about some type of light.

I went and sat on the floor and turned back on the TV.

Beval followed me and sat down next to me.

I didn't bother to say anything to Beval. I just stayed quiet as I watched Disney channel, and yet I glanced at him.

He was resting his arms on his knees, focused on the show that was on.

Even if he wasn't staring directly at me, I could still see the sparkle in his purple eyes. He took his contacts off before bed like the rest of us. I must say, his purple eyes looked much better on him than the hazel-colored contacts he wore.

He noticed that I was staring at him and stared back. I quickly looked away.

"You okay?" he asked.

"Oh yeah, I'm fine," I said as I made a fake smile as I stared straight at the TV.

"You sure? I saw you staring at me," Beval responded as he slouched back against the bottom of the bed.

"Oh, I was just looking at you. You were pretty quiet."

I had a nerve talking about someone being quiet.

"Really? You were pretty quiet too."

"Yeah, you're right. So, umm, what'cha doing?" I smiled as I playfully poked Beval in his stomach.

"Nothing really. Just watching "Phineas and Ferb" with you," he chuckled as he furrowed his eyebrows, wondering why I asked such a stupid question.

"Oh, of course, hahaha," I giggled, kind of embarrassed that I asked that.

"My scalp kind of hurts. Robin really pulled my hair. Jesus, that girl is a madman. A psycho. But I still love her though," Beval said as he rubbed his scalp.

"Uhh, what do you mean by "love her"?" I asked, afraid of the answer.

"Huh? You know, as a best friend," he replied.

"Oh yea," I said back with a dorky smile, rubbing the back of my head.

I was relived, but at the same time I had to think about it. If Beval and Robin were to ever date, which they'll probably never will, it would result in a crime scene, a literal crime scene. Beval would've did or said something Robin disliked or didn't agree with and she would've tortured the poor guy.

He continued talking.

"I love Shimizu as a best friend too. I also love you."

I blanked out for a second when he said that. I knew he met it as a friend, but it still gave me butterflies hearing it.

I continued watching "Phineas and Ferb". In that episode, Isabella tried to get some alone time with Phineas on her birthday.

I could totally relate to Isabella. Having a crush on your best friend was pretty frustrating and irritating, especially if they were oblivious to it.

But Beval wasn't oblivious to my feelings because I never gave him signs that I liked him. Well, I don't think I have.

I know the feeling Isabella from "Phineas and Ferb" had. That feeling of liking your best friend and doubting that they will ever like you back.

I doubted Beval would. I wasn't that pretty like Mina was. I was average in my opinion. The only thing I thought was pretty about me was my personality.

I was a Caribbean black girl with chocolate-colored skin, dimples on my cheeks and glowing, forest green eyes. My hair was in tight curls. The kinks reached a little pass my shoulders. I didn't have wavy, shiny, flowing hair like Mina.

I had a colorful and casual sense of fashion, I didn't have trendy, expensive clothes like Mina.

I was skinny like a toothpick, I didn't have an hourglass figure like Mina. She was gorgeous, I was just...me. I wasn't special, I was just...normal. My self esteem is low but to be honest, seeing Mina made it even lower. She had it all, why wouldn't he want her?! Why would he ever want me?

"So, why are you laying down here?" he asked.

I snapped out of my thoughts.

"Oh, because Robin sleeps weird, but I'm also not used to sharing a bed with people."

"I understand, but you're just gonna sleep on the floor?" Beval asked me with a cocked eyebrow.

"Yes, yes I am. Now if you'll excuse me, I will be heading to sleep. Here, take the remote, watch whatever you want, but no Naruto. I hate that show," I said as I laid down.

Beval snapped.

"What?! How could you hate Naruto?!

"It's not my cup of tea," I replied in boredom.

"That's the best anime series ever created! It is better than "Dragon Ball Z" , "One Piece", "Cowboy Beepbop" and-"

"Shut up about that stupid show! People are trying to sleep! Freaking Weeb!" Robin yelled at Beval, interrupting him as she threw an empty can of Pepsi at him.

"I'm not a weeb," Beval scowled at Robin as he glared at her while rubbing his head.

I quietly laughed. He looked back at me and laughed as well.

"But in all seriousness watch whatever you want," I stated.

"Yeah, thanks."

"Yea. Well, goodnight Beval."

"Goodnight. Hey! Matter of fact, I'm gonna sleep down on the floor with you."

I paused before fully laying down.

"Wait, what?"

"Robin might try to slit my throat while I sleep," Beval said jokingly while eyeing Robin.

"Oh, uh, sure, why not?" I said with a nervous smile.

Beval walked over to his suitcase and took out a big blanket.

"Wait a minute? You had an extra blanket this whole time?!" I asked in shock as I watched him come over with a huge, furry brown blanket.

"Yeah, this is my emergency blanket, you'll never know when it might come in handy," he told me with a wink. "Plus, you shouldn't be using your coat as a blanket you know. It won't make you warm."

"Yeah, I'm pretty aware of that" I said before making a mischievous smile. "That's why I'm gonna take your blanket."

I snatched the blanket away from him and stuck out my tongue, playfully.

"Give it back" Beval giggled as he tugged on the blanket.

Next thing you know, it was a playful game of tug-of-war, and I was losing.

I ended up getting a carpet burn on my knee, so the horse-playing had to stop right then and there. Beval ran over to his bag to get a Band-Aid.

"Here, this should help" Beval said as he crouched down and placed the Band-Aid on my knee. "I am really sorry I caused your carpet burn. God, I'm such a jerk," Beval grunted as he face-palmed himself.

"How? It's just a carpet burn" I shrugged.

"It's not just that, it's the fact that I can be jerky and selfish sometimes. I say things that'll come off as mean, and other times I can come off as just being a jerk or a snob. There were times when I only thought about myself and not others, and there were times when I made offensive jokes towards you guys, not to mention that I did push Robin off the bed and gave you a carpet burn. I was always sassy towards my parents, and been kind of an asshole towards my older sister and-"

I tilted his head up by his chin and my green eyes looked deeply into his purple eyes.

"Beval, you are not a jerk. You are sweet, charming and funny. You can make our day with your amazing cooking and can warm our hearts with your smile and laughter. So what if you have flaws and things you need to work on?! We all do. But overall, even if you're being selfish and self-centered at times, you're still a blessing to your family and to us. You are just being a typical teenage boy, that's all. You mean a lot to us. You mean a lot to me. You mean a lot to Mina. She likes you for you. We love you for you," I explained, trying to cheer him up.

He looked down and smiled, then looked back into my eyes. His purple eyes were piercing through my soul. We stared at each other, which felt like forever.

Was this the right moment to tell him? Should I wait? Should I just kiss him? Should I keep staring into his eyes?

"Beval..." I quietly called out.

"Yeah?" he answered.

"I love you bestie," I said, meaning it in a romantic way, but hiding the true meaning.

"I love you too, best friend," he smiled before he looked away, ending our staring session. He took the remote, turned off the TV and got under the blanket.

I looked up at the ceiling, staring up into the darkness.

"Goodnight Beval" I whispered to him.

"Night Gaia" he replied.

I knew he didn't mean "I love you too" in a romantic way, but it was still good to hear it. It was still good to dream about if he did say it in that way. It was still good to fantasize about us one day becoming more than friends.
