I made a dumb little story of my Abused!AU

And in this AU they aren't royalty, they're just normal people having a normal life k?

Also, this involves themes of violence and abuse. You've been warned.

Scribbling away at his paper, Cody grinned. He was working on something for his parents. Picking up his artwork, he almost tripped as he ran to his parents room.

He stopped directly outside the door, as he heard some screaming coming from inside.

"He's inherited my Atlantean Energy and that's how it is!"

"Maybe he's inherited my wings!"

That's right, Cody's mother was a hybrid between a human and a bird, having black wings. His brother, Joe, took after his father, having Atlantean Energy while Cody took after his mother, as he had the same black coloured feathers as her hair, almost the exact same shade.

"What are you doing, Cody?" The 7 year old chicken behind him asked. "Waiting for mommy and daddy to finish... whatever that is."

"Cody, you can show them later, Alright? Wanna play with me for a while?" He grinned as his brother nodded and walked towards him.

~ 4 years later ~

A scream rang through the once quiet house, as the brothers both emerged from their room. Without looking at eachother, they ran to where the source of the noise came from.

At this current point of time, Cody had been revealed to have his mothers black wings. But he usually kept them folded on his back, unlike his mother who kept them spread out.

They heard a large bang, and Joe pushed the door open.

There lay his mother, bruised on the floor. Standing over her was their father, raising his fist. Without hesitation, Joe ran over to his mother.

Poseidon frowned. He didn't say anything, he only raised his fist. Cody, seeing this, darted forwards, standing between Joe and their father.

"Dad, stop!" It didn't make a difference as he swung his fist back, and hit Cody, sending him to the ground. Grumbling, he slammed out of the room, and they all heard the door shut. He was gone.

Their mother stood up. She ran over to Cody, not minding her own wounds. The penguin lay on the ground, clearly knocked out due to the force of the attack.

"Joe, get ready. We're going on a trip, Alright?" Joe nodded. Cerebia smiles before picking up Cody, pulling him as close as he could to her chest. "We're going to get a divorce, me and your father. We'll start fresh."

~ In Court ~

"Well, Poseidon. Which child will you take custody of?"

"Which child? Your honour, he has beaten me and now started on the youngest-" Cerebia pleaded.

"You'll be smart enough as to not interrupt me. Well, what is your answer?"

"I'll be taking Cody." A wicked grin formed on his face.

"Then it is decided."

"Boys, you both need to say goodbye to eachother."

The brothers looked at eachother, Joe holding his bag. He would be leaving with their mother, while Cody would be staying. Cody's eyes filled with tears. Joe, seeing this, smiled. "Don't worry. When we're both old enough, we can both meet up somewhere! We'll see eachother again, I know it!"

They pulled eachother into a hug, and Cerebia planted a kiss on Cody's head, before they both went out of the door. Cody felt his fathers grip tighten on his shoulder as tears formed in his eyes.

Joe sighed. It was a slow day at the shop and the only people who came in were a few older people looking for knitting stuff and a family looking for the toilets. He was about ready to shut up shop, as his shift was about to end, when someone else walked in.

Joe slightly recognised this penguin, as he walked to the drinks section and picked up a few bottles of beer. Wasn't he too young to be drinking? And come to think of it, Joe could've sworn he's seen this guy before. Yes, every week he comes here to pick up a few more bottle of beer.

As he turned around to put the bottles in the basket he had, Joe got a better look at his back, where he could faintly see the outline of two wings. He was proven correct when they sprung out slightly, moving slowly at first, until the guy decided to fold them back in again.

Joe only knew one penguin with those wings. He shook it off, may just be someone else.

They slowly walked over to where Joe was, the checkout line, and flicked his head back to move his hair from his eyes, which were brown.

Everything started to add up, the habit of flicking his hair back, the wings, the eyes...

Suddenly, something rushed back to Joe.

The 3 year old sat outside, waiting for the doctors to let him in. As the door cranked open, he saw the smiling face of a doctor. "You can see your mother now."

As Joe walked in, he saw his mother sitting up in the bed, holding a blue blanket. She smiled at him, before speaking. "Come over here Joe."

Joe walked over slowly, and he looked in the blanket. Inside it lay a very tiny penguin, much smaller than Joe when he was born. He shifted in his blanket as he opened his eyes, chocolate brown meeting blue.

"He's your brother, Joe. This is Cody."

"He looks like a potato."

"JoeBuz!"

"He looks like a potato with hair?"

"That's better." Cerebia chuckled slightly. "Joe, will you be a good brother to Cody?"

The chicken nodded, as Cody reached up one of his small fists to Joe, a look of confusion crossing his features.

"I'm your big brother, Joe. I'll take care of you, Cody!"

That's where he recognised him from! Just before he scanned the items, he asked. "Hey, is your name Cody?"

The penguin looked taken aback, but nodded shyly, his head tilted to one side.

Joe sighed. "You don't remember me? Joe? Does that ring a bell?"

A smile crossed his face as Cody nodded, a smile mirroring Joe's. "How have you been?"

Cody's smile fell. Joe knew he hit a nerve. "Oh... well..." The atmosphere started to feel a little awkward. No one was saying anything. "So, hows dad been treating you?" No reply. Cody just looked down. "Your not going to speak?"

He didn't reply. Joe understood. "He hasn't been treating you well at all... has he?"

A shake of the head was all he needed. "I'm not letting you go back to that monster. I only just found you, I'm not losing you again. Your coming back to my house, I still live with mum."

At the thought of seeing his mother, Cody's eyes seemed to get a little bit brighter.

"Hey mum! I'm back! And I brought someone with me!" Joe looked back, where his brother stood, arms behind his back. His eyes seemed to try and see behind him, although he was standing the wrong direction.

"Yes Joe, who have you brought home..." Cerebia froze when she saw Cody. She almost dropped the plate she was holding, placed it down on the side before she did so, and walked towards them.

"Cody...?" At the mention of his name, Cody looked up and nodded, his eyes brimming with tears. His mother's did the same, engulfing him in a big hug.

"I've missed you... You've grown up so much!" Cerebia looked him up and down, smiling.

They both didn't realise Joe had gone to fetch some paper and a pen. As he handed it to Cody, Cerebia gave him a look. "He doesn't talk anymore. I think it was dad..."

Cody started scribbling at the paper.

'He put a muzzle on me. He said it was to shut me up, and that he hated my voice. He didn't take it off for 2 years.'

"Your safe now, Cody." Joe looked at him in sympathy. "What else did he do to you?"

'He barely fed me, and sometimes locked me in my room for days at a time. Other days he would bring his friends around and then make me go out to get them stuff.'

"You didn't go to school? Gosh... well, we can enroll you in Joe's school, if you'd like." Cody nodded at his mothers offer, smiling.

A while later, he was ready to go to this new school. "Remember, Cody, if anyone gives you crap, just... punch em. Or come to me. They probably won't understand what you've been through, but if they don't leave you alone, I'll beat the crap outta them."

Cody grinned at his brother's humour, but still glanced nervously at the large building.

"See you in a bit, bro. Stay safe." Joe smiled at Cody before walking over to his friends. The penguin's smile faltered as he turned towards the school. He sighed, before walking towards it.

Opening the door and looking around, there were a few obvious cliches there. A group of girls gossiping, a few people wearing glasses that had braces, all of that stuff. Cody wasn't surprised, in the small amount of free time he had away from his father, he'd read about this sort of stuff.

He looked down at his schedule, and realised his first class was science. He was too busy looking down at the ground as he started walking, and ended up crashing into someone.

"Watch were your going!" It was obviously a Male, but Cody blushed and looked up. A guy wearing a green sweater sat, although they were both sat down, he was obviously taller than him. He wore glasses, but after pulling himself up, he reached a hand down to Cody.

"Aren't you gonna speak?" Cody searched around quickly in his bag, before pulling out a notebook and pen and hastily scribbling into it.

'Sorry, I don't talk. I'm sorry'

Pikalus glanced at the notebook before smiling. "It's fine, I don't really mind if you talk or not. My names Pikalus."

Cody took a few moments to write down his name.

"Nice to meet you Cody."

"Pikalus, What's taking so long?" A girl with blonde hair walked up to them. Her eyes met with Cody's. "Who's he?"

"His names Cody. He doesn't talk." The girl nodded. "Well, I'm Selena. I have English, everyone wants to know what your first class is Pikalus. I can tell them if you tell me."

"Oh, I have Science." Selena nodded, before turning back to Cody. "Keep an eye out for me and Pikalus at lunch. We'll save you a space so you can meet with everyone else. See ya around!" And with that, she darted off.

"So, what do you have?"

Cody wrote down:

'The same as you'

Pikalus nodded, before offering to walk with him. Cody nodded, and both started heading towards their class.

Cody had to stay after a class for a while to talk to him for some things. The English teacher told him that his writing that they had to do for the day was outstanding, and told him he had great potential. The reason probably being Cody only wrote in a notebook for communication.

Pikalus had left already for lunch, so Cody went to the lunch hall. He didn't even know if his new friends would want him to sit next to them. Instead of looking for them, he wandered over to a table with no one on it, and sat down.

"Cody!" A female voice rang out, drawing the attention of multiple students. He looked up and saw Selena waving to him. "Come sit over here!"

Blushing at the attention most of the room was giving him, he stood up and walked over to their table, and sat down on the seat Selena was patting, and on the other side sat Pikalus.

He looked across the table and saw 4 more people.

"This is Cannibal, Kraken, his brother, Blooper, and my sister, Sam." Selena gestured to them all in order.

They all said hello to him as Cody smiled slightly. They asked him questions about himself and waited patiently as he answered in his notebook, all except Kraken who seemed to be suspicious.

Then, Kraken asked a question.

"Hey, why don't you talk? It's kinda weird... Have you just got an annoying voice?"

Everyone glared at him, and Selena kicked him under the table. Cody stopped writing as his vision faded in and out.

"Cody? Are you alright?"

"Is.... Alright, do we.... call a nurse?"

Cody could barely hear them anymore. Tears welled in his eyes as a memory resurfaced.

"I'm sorry, father!"

"Your a disappointment! It's your fault they left us! You little sh*t!" ( AN: I had to censor it >~< )

Cody ducked to avoid the blow Poseidon threw at him.

"I-I... I'm sorry! Stop please!"

"Ugh, your pathetic voice... it gives me a headache!" He walked towards the drawer, which he pulled open, and took out a muzzle.

"Please! I'll shut up! Your scaring me..." tears came to Cody's eyes.

His father paid him no mind as he slammed him into the door. Holding him so his arms were by his side, he shoved the muzzle on his beak. It fit perfectly, so Cody could only open his mouth a tiny bit. As he clamped it on, he dropped Cody.

Cody was crying at this point, not being able to open his mouth fully to draw in air. Poseidon only laughed.

"Let's see you talk now... now get up those stairs! I'm sick of you and your smart-ass little mouth!"

As Cody felt a weight on his shoulder, he turned to see Pikalus had his hand on his shoulder. He knew this was meant to be a calming gesture, but even so, he panicked.

"I'm sorry! Please don't hurt me!" He scrambled out of his chair and grabbed his bag, darting out of the room.

He only stopped outside bathroom doors, and he slid down against the wall next to it. He heard footsteps.

"Cody?"

It was Joe! The chicken sat down in front of him, concerned. "What happened?" Just then, Pikalus and Selena rounded the corner.

"Cody, are you alright?!" Pikalus stopped as he and Joe made eye contact. "Uhh... hi? I'm Pikalus."

"Joe. I'm Cody's brother. May I ask what happened?"

Pikalus explained the long, and boring, story to Joe, who sighed. "I don't think he told you this... but when we were young, Cody and I had an abusive father. Me and mom left but he kept custody of Cody. I only found him a few weeks ago, so please don't bring up any topics about violence, or our father."

Pikalus and Selena nodded. "It was our friend Kraken. He's not usually afraid to speak his mind and we get into these situations..."

Pikalus knelt down to Cody's level, like Joe was. "I'm sorry about Kraken... Are you okay now?"

Cody sighed, and nodded. "Good to know you guys are okay. I gotta get back to class. See you after school Cody!" And with that, Joe left, but not before giving Cody a big hug.

"By the way... that was the first time I heard you speak. Your voice is kinda cute..." Both Pikalus and Cody blushed after he said that.

"I mean- uh... There's no saving that is there?"

Cody grinned and shook his head. Selena smirked. "I sense a ship!"

"Selena, please!"

Cody rolled his eyes and smiled. When they got back to the others, Kraken apologised for what happened. Cody smiled at him and nodded and they got on with their day.

Cody looks back on this day as the best day in his life.

The day his life got brighter.
