Cody is Joe's younger brother, and Joe is the King. Cody's fine with this cause he doesn't really like the pressure of being a prince, let alone a king.

But one day, Joe leads his men into a battle and says goodbye to Cody, who's staying with Rasmus. He promises to come back.

But he doesn't.

Joe dies in that battle, only having enough time to tell his men this;

I know I'm going to die. Cody will be the next king. He'll do a better job than me.

When Cody hears this message, he has to deal with the stress of his brother's loss, being a king, and the upcoming revolution that an alliance are holding as they try to overthrow him.
