The real world

The trip home was longer than I expected. Eliza had been a delight in the twenty-one hour car ride we had. We had to make several restroom breaks, food stops, and had to rotate drivers.

Caroline decided to tag along to help smooth over Kai's return with Bonnie and Damon. We'd made it in at midnight last night, and the four oldest promptly crashed. Kai and Caroline on our worn couches, and my siblings and I in our beds.

Surprisingly, the young blonde vampire had managed to convince her soulmate to let her go to Mystic Falls alone, Caroline can be scary when she wants to be.

I quietly made my way around the kitchen, brewing coffee for the group, my internal clock hadn't changed much during my time in the prison world.

Leaning against the counter, I thought about our situation. I liked the Mikaelsons and Caroline has proved to be a good friend and someone I could trust with my siblings. However, we were safe where we were, our life was set up here.

I didn't just want to uproot Adam and Eliza, but there were people in this town that threaten both my family and Kai.

"Good morning" Kai's quiet voice startled me, he kissed my cheek, wrapping his arms around me for a moment, before grabbing the coffee pot from the counter and pouring some into a random lone mug.

"Morning to you too" I replied with a small chuckle. "How're you adjusting?"

He shrugged, sipping his coffee. "I miss us being the only ones"

"Why? because you want me all to yourself?" I joked lightly.

Kai shrugged again, looking at the wall.

"Wait, Kai, is that really how you feel?" I put my hand on his cheek, guiding his gaze back to me. "Hey, you'll always have me"

"I don't want to lose you" he set his mug on the counter, not even half finished. Refusing to look at me as he said it.

"Kai" I gently took his left arm, pushing his sleeve up to reveal the Sagittarius tattoo. "This means you won't lose me, as soon as we met, I felt the pull of the bond, the more I got to know you, the stronger it's weight"

"I don't want you to feel like I'm a burden, like you have to love me" he whispered.

"I don't have to do anything Kai Parker, I love you" I pointed at his chest. "It took me a while, but I've never been so sure of something before"

The way he looked at me then was like I was the most perfect thing in the world, his eyes shone slightly, and he didn't speak for a few moments, instead he just held my hand.

Kai gently took my face in both hands, leaning in slowly, and closing his eyes, I closed mine, but just as he was about to kiss me, a throat clearing startled the both of us.

I looked to my right and there stood Adam who had his arms crossed and an eyebrow raised. "Am I interrupting something?"

"No, not at all" Kai backed off, causally grabbing his mug and walking to the couch after sending me a playful wink. I wanted nothing more than to strangle my little brother. I know he doesn't approve of Kai, but does he have to ruin a moment.

"Do you need something Adam?" I questioned as I poured my own coffee into my mug.

"Just wondering what the plan is.." he trailed off.

"I'm probably gonna take Eliza to the park, Kai and I are need talk some stuff over" I leaned against the counter, taking a sip of my coffee.

"We do?" Kai asked from his couch, Caroline startled slightly from the sudden noise, waking up from her sleep.

"And what are Caroline and I going to be doing?" Adam walked over, pouring some coffee for himself too.

"I was hoping the two of you would keep our favorite gang from killing Kai while we're here" I paused, giving Adam my best puppy eyed look "please"

He sighed "I don't know how I feel about leaving Eliza and you alone with him" Adam leaned closer, whispering so Kai couldn't hear.

I nodded "I know, but I was alone with him for three months, and I don't think he'd hurt me" then I put my hand on his shoulder, saying the words loud enough for Kai to hear "and if he hurt Eliza, I'd personally murder him"

Kai leaned over to Caroline, saying in a mock whisper "is it bad that I thought that was hot?"

The girl shrugged in turn "I think it's a soulmate thing"

"Anyways, it'll be fun" I smiled, sending a look to Kai "I think I'll go get dressed and then I'll get Eliza up"
