Chapter 9

"After School Special"

Damon and I were the ones in charge of Jeremy's training the past few days. He was a fast learner as I watched him and Matt -who volunteered to help and make sure we didn't hurt the boy- train together. Damon was a little far away listening to his voicemails, his presence tested my patience but I had given Jeremy my word I wouldn't kill the people helping him.

I was starting to regret it.

"Go ahead" Jeremy told Matt, ready for another round. I watched close by, leaning against a tree, my arms crossed over my chest, "Make a move"

"I drove up here to be your wingman" Matt replied. I smirked in amusement "Not kick your ass" Still, Matt tried to make a move. Jeremy dodged, throwing him on the ground, starting to strangle him. "Okay!" Matt gasped, "I get it. I get it. You're a badass"

I chuckled.

Jeremy released him, looking between Damon and me "Did you see that?"

"Couldn't miss it" Damon told him in boredom "It was in slow motion"

Jeremy frowned, "Then teach me something useful. We've been here for days, and so far all you've done is bark orders"

Jeremy looked at me.

I sighed

Damon rolled his eyes "Okay. Take a seat at the bench, quarterback. Karate kid wants a shot at the tiger"

I held a hand to stop Damon, "Allow me"

Damon raised his eyebrows, looking between us warily.

I looked at Jeremy, smirking, picking up a stake.

Matt looked between me and Jeremy worriedly. He still doesn't trust me. Great.

"Jeremy, you're not ready for this" Matt told him

"I trust her" Jeremy replied.

I slowed down slightly surprised, meeting his eyes. It was still weird how much he trusted me. Jeremy gave me a small smile. I looked away from his eyes, throwing him the stake. Jeremy caught it. I nodded for him to attack. Jeremy lunged at me but I was faster, spinning around him, strangling him from behind.

"Now, all I have to do is apply a little pressure under your jaw" I told him smugly.

Jeremy struggled in my grip, making my smirk grow.

A pizza delivery car arrived.

Damon looked annoyed. "Really? Again?"

Jeremy took my moment of distraction, grabbing my arms, flipping me over his shoulder to the ground making me groan as my back made contact with the ground as he hovered the stake over my heart, smirking at me "Gotcha"

I couldn't help a tiny smirk, "Cheater"

Jeremy smiled, putting away the stake, offering his hand to me. After a moment of hesitation I took it, letting him help me up.

"Double pepperoni 3 days in a row" A girl walked closer, holding a pizza box "You guys eat anything else?"

"Why?" Damon asked, smirking "Are you offering?" Damon paid the pizza, "A little something extra cut off the pizza pipeline for a couple days. No matter how much they beg, don't come back"

The girl looked at the boys apologetically "Sorry, guys"

The girl walked away.

"You're gonna starve us now?" Jeremy asked incredulously

"If that's what it takes to make you a hunter" Damon replied, shrugging "Now run around the lake, twice"

Jeremy glanced at me

I bit my lip, holding back a smile, raising my eyebrows at him.

Jeremy sighed in frustration, rolling his eyes, starting to run toward the lake

I looked at Matt, "Why don't you keep him company?" Matt frowned. I nodded toward Damon "I'll make sure Mr. Grumpy-pants doesn't eat your food"

Matt sighed, "Fine"

Matt turned around, running after Jeremy

I turned to Damon smugly, "And that's how you convince a boy who doesn't like you. Through food"

"And one who does batting your eyelashes" Damon told me sarcastically.

I ignored his comment about me and Jeremy. It wasn't the first time Damon had been vocal of how flirty we were to each other. It wasn't true and I wasn't going to let him get ideas inside Jeremy's head either. I didn't like him, I just wanted him to be a good hunter. I couldn't like him.

"Whatever" I rolled my eyes, starting my way to the cabin. Damon stopped in front of me. I fixed him with a cold look, "Move, darling. Just because I haven't hurt you yet doesn't mean I like you or tolerate you. You tried to kill me. I hate you"

"Then why you haven't killed me, Red?" Damon asked sarcastically "Oh, I get it, you can't"

I narrowed my eyes, gripping his throat tightly. Damon struggled against my grip but it was no use. I slammed him against a tree making him groan in pain. "I made a deal with two people already I wasn't going to kill your sorry arse. If you remember correctly, I keep my word" I squeezed his throat harder, making him gasp for air, crawling at my hand. "However, those deals talk about not killing you. It doesn't say anything about hurting you, so don't think for a second I won't torture you slowly and painfully if you annoy me or make my day harder"

I released my grip on Damon, harshly throwing him to the ground. Damon coughed, getting oxygen to his lungs. I gave him one more glare before walking toward the cabin.

A few hours later, we began working with weapons.

Jeremy was loading a gun.

I was twirling around some stakes, swiftly maneuvering them between my fingers, throwing one in the air and catching it with the other hand, mentally using them as twin daggers.

Jeremy finished loaded his gun, showing it to Damon.

"Good" Damon told him "Now do it like your life depends on it 'cause it does"

I looked at them, lowering my stakes, walking closer to them.

Jeremy dropped a stake "Don't act like you care about my life. You care about the hunter's mark and curing Elena so she's not sired to your ass"

I chuckled, putting down the stakes and picking up gun, loading it with stakes.

"Both require you to be alive, which is why I've updated our relationship status to 'it's complicated'." Damon replied "You talked to her at all? Elena?"

"Maybe" Jeremy answered, shrugging "Why? Running out of voicemails to listen to?"

Jeremy exchanged a smug look with me

Klaus walked closer, "I'm sorry. Did I interrupt play time?"

I pursed my lips, my grip on the gun tightening. He was the reason Rebekah was daggered. Again. To say I was tempted on using this gun on him was an understatement.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Jeremy asked, glaring at my cousin

"I'm simply appreciating the sights and smells of nature, neither of which presently include rotting vampire flesh, so I'm a bit concerned" Klaus answered "How many vampires has he killed?" He looked between me and Damon "Love, Klary give me a hand"

I raised an eyebrow, unmoving.

"If we throw Jeremy out into the world right now, he's chum" Damon told him.

"Now, see, that's not a number" Klaus told him "12 that's a number. That's how many of my hybrids I slaughtered with my sword. 3 that's how many days it took to quell the urge to kill your brother, after he knowingly watched as I walked into a death trap. One. That's the number of purposes you serve. You are here to grow Jeremy's mark, so I ask again..." He looked between us, tone going dark and dangerous. It didn't scare me "How many vampires has he killed since he's been here?"

I rolled my eyes "Zero"

Klaus hummed "That's a pity. I'm going to need that cure sooner rather than later, hybrid shortage and all" He smiled innocently "How can I help?"

"You know..." I narrowed my eyes, walking forward, the stake gun dangling between my fingers, a smirk playing at the corner of my lips "Now that you mention it, Jeremy...Watch and learn" I pointed the gun at Klaus, shooting at him six times, "That's for daggering Rebekah again"

Klaus breathed heavily in pain, struggling to get the stakes out.

Jeremy looked at me impressed

I smiled, raising the stake gun, blowing air at it and resting it on my shoulder, feeling much better for that.

Later on, the boys took some kind of break. I was at the living room inside the cabin, flipping a phot Album of Jeremy's family, a small smile playing on my lips as I noticed how happy his family looked like. Even Elena looked more innocent and happy. Human Elena reminded me of Tatia. Innocent and kind. I made a face,  realizing how much the supernatural had screwed Elena's life. Yet she was making it all about herself. Also, maybe I was a little biased because of Rebekah's hatred.

A knock in the front door pulled me out of my thoughts, looking up, seeing the pizza delivery girl outside as Matt opened the door.

"Don't tell me he ordered another pizza" I asked Matt in annoyance and amusement

Matt shrugged, looking at the girl

The girl shook her head "No, I'm just an idiot. I ran out of gas and my phone's dead. Think I could use yours?"

"Yeah, come on in" Matt told her, stepping back, going upstairs. "I'll run upstairs and grab my cell"

The girl remained outside. I narrowed my eyes at her

Jeremy walked in, "What are you doing here?"

"Car drama" The girl answered "Your friend just went to go get his phone"

Jeremy nodded, glancing at me, seeing album in my hands, grimacing.

I smirked at him, wriggling my eyebrows.

Jeremy bit his lip, looking at the girl "Well, I'm about to go take a shower, but you're more than welcome to wait inside"

The girl smiled, walking inside the cabin. "Thanks"

I tilted my head aside, finding it odd she didn't walked in when Matt invited her. I frowned

"Klary" Jeremy told me. I looked at him, forgetting about how suspicious the girl acted, "Stay away from my family's photos"

I couldn't help but smile at how nervous that made it seem. "Oh, why?" I pressed the album to my chest, smirking "Am I going to find an embarrassing baby Gilbert photo in here?"

Jeremy groaned, "Just stay away from them"

I held back a laugh, chuckling "Not making promises"

Jeremy smiled slightly, walking away.

I turned around, putting the album back to it's place, about to pick another when my phone beeped with a text. I pulled it out, seeing it was from Kol. A small smile played on my lips as it had been a long time since the last time I saw him. My smile faded once I read his text. Looks like I'm not the only one concerned about waking Silas.

"Did you find your phone?" I heard the girl ask from around the house

I paused for a moment, listening. I couldn't heart her heart, only Matt's. My eyes widened in alarm, rushing toward them, witnessing the girl about to bite Matt. I grabbed her before she could, throwing her far away from him, flashing her my vamp face

"Stay away from him" I snapped.

The narrowed her eyes "I figured they wouldn't have been unprotected"

The girl pulled out a stake. I would have laughed but shockingly, she knew what I was. It was an Oak White Stake. I held my breath, eyeing the Oak Stake cautiously. The girl rushed at me, trying to stake me. I dodged her attempts, grabbing her wrist with the stake and her throat, mindful of where I pointed the stake so I wouldn't stab myself. It was difficult as the sight of the Oak Stake shoot fear of dying through me that I wasn't really up to my game.

Suddenly the girl was pried off me, falling to the ground with Jeremy underneath her, struggling against him but Jeremy didn't bulge, staking her in the heart. The girl yelped in pain before her skin began turning grey as she died, her grip on the white oak stake softened, dropping it.

I sighed shakily in relief

Damon walked in

Jeremy looked at him, glancing down at his arm. After a moment, he looked up at me questionably, slowly standing up.

I nodded, glancing down at the Oak Stake.

~8~

Damon went to bury the vampire girl's body.

I sat on the porch of the cabin, twirling slowly the Oak Stake in my hands, my mind whirling trying to figure it out how that girl had found the only thing that could kill me permanently, how she got her hands on one and knew it could kill me.

I heard Jeremy walking closer from behind me, "You okay?"

I didn't turn around, staring at the Oak Stake "Did the mark grow?"

Jeremy sighed, sitting next to me "A little, yes" I could practically feel his eyes burning a hole in the side my face, I rolled my eyes "You saved Matt tonight"

I chuckled, "An error of my part. I keep doing them lately, I don't know why"

"Because of me?" Jeremy suggested.

I glanced at him, frowning "Maybe"

Jeremy smiled slightly, flickering his eyes toward the Oak stake "You almost died"

I stopped whirling the Oak Stake, my voice emotionless "Yeah"

Jeremy glanced up at my face, "Were you scared?"

"No" I lied smoothly. Jeremy opened his mouth but before he could say anything, my phone beeped with a text. I pulled it out, seeing it was from Klaus, "Klaus wants to meet us in a bar"

Jeremy frowned

"Well, this is gonna be fun" Damon's voice made me look up at him suspiciously,

Damon smirked

~8~

Jeremy, Damon, Matt and I arrived at the bar Klaus told us too.

My eyes widened seeing all the dead bodies

Klaus was sitting at the bar, smirking "I was beginning to worry you wouldn't find the place"

Jeremy looked around in shock, "What the hell...?"

"What bloody hell, Nik?" I asked frowning.

"Did you kill all these people?" Matt asked incredulously.

Klaus smiled, shaking his head "Not exactly. They're in transition" I raised my eyebrows. Klaus looked at Jeremy "Killing them is your job"

Matt, Jeremy and I looked at Damon

"You said you were going to convince Klaus to do this another way" Jeremy told him angrily

"Are you insane?" I asked angrily, my accent becoming thicker the more I raised my voice at him "Killing innocent people it's not the way"

Klaus raised his eyebrows in amusement

"I thought about it and then I realized his idea was better" Damon explained. looked at me "It's not like you care, Red, you've kill more than this before"

I glared at him and Klaus, looking at Jeremy and Matt worriedly. He was so not ready for this.

I guess I'm found just about to find if my skills are still intact.
