Chapter 4
"The Five"
There was only one person besides us who knew the Five as well. We knew Rebekah had some of their secrets before they literally stabbed us in our sleep and we had to know what they knew.
I had to so I could stop them. Shame Klaus had a different agenda.
We were at the Grill, sitting at the bar, watching Matt, knowing Rebekah was bound to come to him. She was as predictable as that.
I sensed her before even looking at her.
Rebekah placed a bunch of keys on the counter
"What's that?" Matt asked
"The key to your new truck" Rebekah answered "It's parked outside, paid for, insured, everything but a big red bow"
"If that's your idea of an apology" Matt told her, "You should probably give it to Elena. She's the one you killed"
Klaus and I watched in amusement as she stood there, watching Matt go, disappointed
"You're trying to hard, Bek" I told her, sipping my drink.
Rebekah turned to us, frowning. "Last I heard, you were leaving town forever"
I lowered my glass slowly
"Well, I was" Klaus admitted "But then I thought to myself, how can I when my sister, clearly so desperate for love and affection, is left here bribing the help?"
"I'm here keeping the lonely brother company" I explained, smirking, raising my glass in a mock toast "And this town hasn't bothered me yet"
Klaus looked at me amused.
Rebekah sighed, glaring at Klaus "What do you want, Nik? I thought I was dead to you"
I raised my eyebrows at him, waiting for his response
"Things change, Rebekah" Klaus replied "We've stumbled upon something I think might be of interest to you"
"Doubt that" Rebekah spat
"No?" Klaus asked, smirking "Well, what if I told you the brotherhood of the five still existed?"
"What?" Rebekah asked in shock, glancing at me for confirmation
I nodded, "You heard right"
"You see?" Klaus smiled "And like that, bygones. Come on, love. Work to do"
"We don't have anything to do" Rebekah told him "There is no 'we'. I don't care about the five, and I don't care about you"
I placed a hand in my cheek in boredom, leaning against the counter
"As you wish" Klaus replied, walking away, looking at me from the door "C'mon, Klary, let's go"
"Now that I think about it, I'll stay here for a while" I replied, watching him with a smirk. Klaus rolled his eyes, walking away. I looked at the bartender, "Can you give me another drink, love?" The bartender looked at me warily, unmoving. I snapped, placing my empty glass on the counter, leanin forward to compel him "Give me another glass and for your hesitation, it'll be on the house"
The Bartender blinked, serving me another glass without a second thought.
I smiled sarcastically, mocking a toast, drinking it, sighing happily

When I arrived Klaus' mansion, Stefan was there asking about the Five
I walked closer, "So many questions, don't you think Nik?"
They looked at me.
I smirked
Stefan sighed "It's a good thing I have nothing to do today except get answers out of you"
I raised an eyebrow, looking at Klaus
Klaus shrugged, gesturing at me
"The brotherhood of the five was a group of highly skilled vampire hunters" I told him walking past them "We crossed paths with them in the twelfth century. Rebekah knows more about them though"
Klaus tilted his head, "What do you think, love? Will he be useful into getting Rebekah cooperate with us?" I didn't answer, giving him a 'don't you dare' look. Klaus smiled, "I think he will. Anyway. My siblings, Klary and I had followed the Normans as they conquered the South. Feeding, turning people as we went" Klaus explained how we had come across the hunters in Italy 1114, exposing vampires to people, and how Rebekah met Alexander, one of the Five, "But with the bloodshed came exposure"
"So these hunters have been around for 900 years?" Stefan asked
"Apparently" Klaus answered. "Well, our friend in the other room is the first I've seen since then"
"Kind of makes you wonder what they've been up to all these years" I told them thoughtfully
"And Rebekah had a thing with one of them?" Stefan asked
"Oh, she didn't just have a thing" I told him, smiling "She fell in love with him"
"He told her all his secrets" Klaus told him "Which I will gladly share with you. Provided you do one thing for me"
I shot him a look
"And what's that?" Stefan asked
"Get Rebekah over here" Klaus answered. "She's being stubborn. And hateful. I need to make peace with her. I want her to give me some very important information about the hunter, which she won't do unless she believes we've made up"
"And what's in it for me?" Stefan asked
"Just get her here and I'll tell you" Klaus told him "Oh, and Stefan. Trust me when I say this, that hunter in there holds the answer to all your prayers"
I glared at him. No, it wasn't. It was the receipt for more trouble. "And I won't be here when she gets here. I don't want to be in the middle of a sibling fight, it may be entertaining, but it's also annoying"
I walked away

Commotion on the first floor made me walk down the stairs, frowning in annoyance, seeing one of Klaus' hybrids walking inside the mansion with a struggling Jeremy in his grip.
I followed them toward the living room in curiosity, seeing Stefan rush toward Jeremy in alarm but Klaus got there first, chuckling
"I wouldn't" Klaus told him "Lucky for us, young Jeremy here is a bit of an artist"
I looked at Jeremy in realization, smiling in amusement
"I'm not helping you with anything" Jeremy told him
Klaus smirked "I'm afraid you are"
I crossed my arms, looking between them "Tone it down a bit, would you? Someone's trying to do homework"

Klaus had Jeremy talking to Connor so he could draw the tattoo we couldn't see. The tattoo was a map. A map leading to, according to Klaus, Stefan's solution of his problems.
I had threatened the hybrid guarding the door to leave, leaning against the door, listening to them talking
"You set me up at the hospital" Connor told him. "Led me to a trap. Why?"
"You were trying to hurt people who are important to me" Jeremy answered
"Important to you?" Connor repeated incredulously "That vampire just threatened to kill you. I don't understand how you could see the tattoo if you're a sympathizer"
"What exactly do you understand?" Jeremy asked "'Cause a couple days ago, you seemed to have all the answers and now you're no jack. Where did this tattoo come from? Why am I the only one who can see it?"
"Years ago, I met someone with a mark" Connor explained "Claimed he had this intense desire to kill vampires. Like it was ingrained in his DNA. Told me the same thing I told you if I could see the mark, I was a potential"
I raised my eyebrows in curiosity, trying to ignore Stefan, Klaus and Rebekah's conversation about what happened in Italy when the hunters daggered us because of Rebekah
"Who was he?" Jeremy asked
"Just a guy I served in Iraq with" Connor answered. "I lost track of him, and then one day... The tattoo just showed up on me. It started on my hand, but the more vampires I killed, the more it spread, like- like it was trying to tell me something. I just-I just don't know what"
I smirked knowingly

I was at the living room, reading a book when Jeremy and a hybrid walked in.
"Did Klaus get what he wanted?" I asked without looking up
"I'm not sure" The hybrid answered, "But he wants you to take him to his home"
I looked up warily, closing the book. "Klaus is confiding me that?" I asked, pointing at Jeremy. Jeremy tilted his head, sarcastically. I chuckled "That's a first. It makes me believe he thinks he's lucky Kol isn't around for me to screw up this"
Jeremy scoffed "Classic"
I flashed him an innocent smile, standing up "Come on, then. Let's get you home" I grabbed Jeremy's arm, dragging him out of Klaus' home. Jeremy pulled away from my grip. "I know you don't trust me but I don't want you getting hurt"
I threw him his magical ring
"What?" Jeremy frowned in surprise, looking at the ring "How did you get this?"
"I'm sneaky when I want to be" I answered, shrugging "Klaus won't suspect I took it"
I walked toward my car, opening the passenger door for him, looking at him expectantly.
Jeremy hesitated, looking between me and my car and his ring, sighing in defeat, getting inside the car.
I smiled, walking around the car, getting into the driver's seat, driving away once he closed his door.

I was driving. Jeremy was in the passenger seat.
The silence was bothering me, starting to tap the wheel awkwardly "Believe it or not. You can trust me" I told him, glancing at him, turning around in his street "I don't want innocent blood spilled"
"You're a vampire" Jeremy replied, opening the door "An original at that"
I parked in front of his house, turning to face him "So what?" I asked, laughing bitterly "That doesn't mean I don't care about human lives" Jeremy stayed silent. I looked away, leaning my head against the glass window "I know you'll do a good job in protecting them, I can tell"
Jeremy paused, staring at me but I didn't turn to face him, "What's that supposed to mean?"
I didn't answer, "Goodnight, Jeremy. Send Bonnie my greetings"
Jeremy scoffed, getting out of the car, closing the door
I drove away, without looking back
