Chapter 1
"Ordinary People"
Flashback
10th Century
I used to be different when I was human. I was kind and a troublemaker. I loved to prank people and trick them into making deals with me. That was one of the traits that followed me through my transformation into this new and dreadful creature.
But when I was human. There was not a lot of pain
I used to walk along the village I lived with my father's brother. My father had been killed by the men beasts when I was five and my mother died at childbirth. I had taken my red hair from her as almost everyone of my paternal Family had either brown or blonde hair.
I was close with my cousin, Henrik. We were the same age and I loved to tease him with Merida, one of our neighbors and his little crush.
I looked at Henrik who was my company as I delivered some flowers I had picked up on the forest as entertainment. I always tricked him into thinking it was a job.
"Oh come on, hurry up, Klary!" Henrik complained. I tilted my head, raising my eyebrows "You're too slow, I would've finished already"
"Alrighty then" I told him, giving him the basket of flowers
Henrik looked down to see the different flowers inside it, "What's this?"
I placed my hands in my hips, "You can do it, Mr. I'm better than you. Just remember each flower belongs to certain person and if you do it right, you won't have any problem"
Henrik paused, eyeing all the flowers, starting to consider if it was a good idea to prove himself "Wait. So, you know which flowers belongs to everyone in the village?"
I smiled smugly, "Yes"
Henrik silently handed me back the basket of flowers, "You know what? We can just go to your own pace, and I'll stop complaining"
I giggled, "Come on"
We walked toward Rebekah who was washing some clothes
"Don't you have to deliver those flowers?" Henrik asked in confusion.
Rebekah looked up in amusement, "Not really, Henrik. There's no such a thing as her selling flowers, she does it because she likes it"
I playfully hit Rebekah in her arm making her laugh
Henrik gave me an offended look "Wait. You made me walk the entire village only for something you like to do?" I shrugged innocently. "You tricked me!"
"That's what she does" Rebekah replied, smiling
"Not fair" Henrik told us, "I was going to spend time with Merida this afternoon but you made me go with you to a job you supposedly had to do"
I exchanged a teasing look with Rebekah
"Merida, huh?" I teased, wriggling my eyebrows.
Henrik pursed his lips, looking down with a blush "She's just a friend. Not what you think"
Rebekah laughed softly, "Oh, it's exactly what we think Henrik and trust me, it's not bad that you like her"
"But I'm your cousin, Hen" I told him sweetly "I'm first than her"
"You should've told me" Henrik replied "I wouldn't had let you be alone if you asked me to go with you but you tricked me"
I looked down with a smile
Rebekah chuckled "You're not the only one she has tricked, Henrik. You should know by now her playful personality" I laughed slightly. Henry shook his head in amusement "But I have to give it to you. You're the first one of the family to be tricked"
"I was bored" I defended myself, "Besides they have learned to not trust me when I'm near them, somehow they know I'll trick them or something"
Henrik and Rebekah laughed
"You have that look in your eyes when you're about to do something wicked" Rebekah told me
Henry nodded in agreement
I chuckled.
Behind us, I heard the sound of swords fighting
Rebekah's eyes lit up "Come on, Klary, Henrik. Our brothers are fighting again"
Rebekah ran up to them
I exchanged a look with Henry smiling, following after Rebekah, finding Klaus and Elijah fighting with swords
"Oh, look" Elijah told him "Sister's arrived to watch my fast-approaching victory"
I stood between Henry and Rebekah watching with an amused smile
"On the contrary, Elijah" Klaus replied in amusement
They continued fighting. Klaus broke Elijah's belt, making us laugh.
Uncle Michael and Aunt Esther were watching as well
Uncle Mikael approached Klaus and Elijah, taking Elijah's sword.
Our smiles faded.
I looked at Rebekah and Henrik in worry as we watched silently
Uncle Mikael looked at Klaus "Why don't you teach me that trick, young warrior?"
Klaus lowered his sword, watching his father with fear "Father, we were just having fun"
"We fight for our survival" Uncle Mikael told him, angrily "And you find time for fun?! I want to have fun! Teach me. Come on!"
Klaus bowed his head "Father, it was nothing"
They started to fight. Uncle Mikael removed Klaus' sword with his own, pushing him to the ground, raising the swears above him.
I cringed, looking away
Henrik squeezed my hand tightly
"You are foolish and impulsive, my boy" Uncle Mikael told him "What? No more laughter?"
"You've made your point, Mikael" Aunt Esther told him
Uncle Mikael put down he sword next to Klaus' face "Some days, it's a miracle you're still alive... Boy"
Uncle Mikael stood, walking away
The only thing to fear about being human was being helpless, not being able to help who needed it. Some part of me, was glad for this change. I was finally able to help who needed it, not like the weak human part of me.
