Phone Call
You stayed in the rain not caring that you were soaking wet. You were staring to get cold, your teeth were chattering and the wind was blowing your wet hair into your face. It stung like needles on your features. But still, you curled yourself up tight and leaned against the willow that made you dream of better days.
You were so caught up in your thoughts and sadness that you didn't hear the footsteps. "Hey? _____?"
You lifted your head up and came face to face with a very concerned Allen. Some of his hair dye was running down his face so he put up his hoodie. "Hi." You said quietly.
"What are you doing out here? It's raining." He asked, crouching down to meet you at your eye level.
"Yeah I know." Was all you mustered yourself up to say. Your throat was dry and scratchy from all the crying.
"Don't you want to go back to your dorm?" Allen asked, voice soft and smooth like butter.
You shook your head. "Not really. Erza will just bug me." It was true, she saw you crying and you knew she wouldn't let it go.
"Well.. Want to come back to mine?"
You shook your head once more, this time vigorously. You couldn't go back there. You couldn't see Alfred. "No! I mean.. No. No thanks."
He raised a suspicious brow. "Uh.. Okay.. Let's go to the cafeteria. My friend works there and I think you'll really like him." Allen grinned and wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
You couldn't help but let a small giggle out. "...sure." It did sound good, and you just realized how hungry you were. Allen extended his hand and you gladly took it. He lifted you off the ground and ruffled your hair.
"There see?" He chuckled when you went to fix your hair because it was in your eyes. "Whatever you do... Just don't eat the cupcakes." He warned.
"What? Why?"
"Just don't!"
...
His name was Oliver and he reminded you so much or Erza. The hair, the fluffy aprons, everything. They had to have met before considering that they were basically the same person. But Oliver was a little strange, that much you could tell. His aura seemed almost psychotic. He also reminded you a lot of Arthur; the same haircut, thick eyebrows, it was strange. "Hello poppet~!!" He smiled widely and walked out of the kitchen when he saw you. "You must be _____, right?"
You nodded, stuck in confusion. "Yeah."
"I'm Oliver! It's lovely to meet you,~!" He chirped happily. Then he wrapped his arms around you and gave you a tight squeeze. He didn't look that strong so his strength surprised you.
Allen chuckled softly. "Don't kill her Oliver."
The Brit let go of you and dusted off his apron. "I do apologize poppet."
You smiled warmly, regaining your breath. "No worries."
He walked back into the kitchen and opened the freezer. "Would you care for some ice cream? I just convinced the campus to purchase it."
Once again you nodded. "Yes please." He handed you a bowl of (fav flavor) with a pink spoon with a bow on the end of it. You couldn't help but giggle. Where in earth could he buy such a thing.
Oliver noticed you were looking at the spoon and laughed. "It's edible too. It's made out of candy."
You rolled your eyes. He was a little too fluffy for your taste but he was good company. "Oh." You took a bite of the ice cream and smiled. It was so creamy and delicious. You kept eating quietly, not knowing what to talk about.
Oliver looked at you sadly as he ate spoonfuls of his strawberry ice cream. "I'm so sorry poppet."
You raised a brow. "For what?"
"Alfred."
The candy spoon fell out of your hand and swirled around in the bowl before stopping. You stared into the distance, not saying a word. What could you say?
"_____? Poppet?" Oliver said quietly, trying to get your attention. He looked over at Allen who looked perplexed. He still didn't understand why that name, every time it was spoken, would make you freeze like a deer in the headlights.
"Doll face?" He placed a hand in your shoulder and you snapped out of it. You looked down at your hands. "What's wrong?"
You shook your head. "It's nothing." It wasn't necessarily a lie, to you, it was nothing. You and him were nothing.
"It's obviously not." Allen scoffed. "You've been like this ever since I met you. What's eating at cha?"
You kept staring at you hands. They were slightly cracked from the cold. "I..." You started to speak but bit your lip and started over. "It's a long story..." You sighed. "Too long of a story."
"Sum it up?" Oliver asked hopefully. He had already finished his ice cream and had sticky pink splotches on his face.
You hadn't told anyone about what had happened with you and Alfred. You kept the story locked up tight as if it was some forbidden fairytale. Only this fairytale didn't have a happy ending. You were about to open your mouth to speak, to tell them everything that had happened, when your phone rang. You looked down at the caller ID and saw it was and unknown number.
You mouthed a little 'sorry' and picked up the phone, wondering who it was. The voice on the other end made you smile widely.
"____~!!! Bella!!"
"Feli?! Oh my gosh! Feliciano!"
"Ciao bella~! How are you?" Feliciano asked happily from the other side of the phone.
"Good. What about you, how's Roma?" Of course you had to ask about his brother. They were both such good friends.
"Wanna talk to him~?... ROMANO!! BIG BROTHER~!" You giggled as you heard a very grumpy, "What do you want?" From the other end. It was soft but you knew who it was. "Ciao."
"Hi Romano!" You smiled once more.
"Sí _____! Ciao! How are you?" You weren't really shocked that he sounded happy. You knew Romano could get like that.
"Alright I guess. And you? I see your brother wouldn't leave you." You laughed softly.
"Sí, sí... That's true. But we're both getting our culinary degrees so... It's inevitable that he follows me. He can be an obnoxious bastard though..." You heard Romano laugh quietly. "I'm sure you heard about... You know..."
"Yeah... I saw him.."
"Sí. Me too. I'm guessing he didn't remember you? Because that's what happened to me. Dumb jerk."
"Yeah..."
"Well... I have to go... We should meet up and have lunch or something. Over break? We'll get everyone together just like old times?"
"Just like old times. Ciao Roma."
"Bye bella..."
You hung up the phone. You wished it could be like old times. Hanging out with Elizabeta on the bleachers outside, talking to Arthur about the latest books and Doctor Who episodes, even scolding Gilbert and Mathias for 'kidnapping' you and laughing as Liz chased them around with her frying pan. You had so many good memories, it was a shame that the bad over weighed the good.
