Chapter III

After landing in New York, Jack and I were confused and tired. Logan had explained everything he could about why he had come on the flight. We had gone from eight at night to three in the afternoon and I had the feeling we were both going to be seriously jetlagged. Logan led us outside to the crowded parking lot after stopping to get a violin to hide my shining silver violin.

"So how exactly are we going to get to this... school of yours?" Jack asked, yawning.

"I called someone to pick us up," Logan said, leading us into an alley close to the airport.

A young woman was leaned against the wall studying the ground. She wore a black leather jacket and black pants. Her black hair hung over her shoulders. She looked up when Logan got within a couple feet of her. She narrowed her piercing blue eyes at him but said nothing.

"Hey Lucky Girl," Logan said. "You ready to go?"

The woman shot him a glare and hooked her thumbs together, spreading her other fingers.

"Uh, no. You're carrying three, you need something bigger," Logan said.

Jack and I shared confused looks. Neither of us knew what Logan was doing or who this weird lady was.

The woman gave Logan a questioning look, then looked at us. Jack moved closer to me protectively. The woman noticed and held her hands out in front of her, spreading her fingers wide.

"Calm down, bub," Logan said. "Jack, Gallia, this is Luck. Luck, this is Jack and Gallia."

Luck smiled kindly at us, still saying nothing. She nodded to each of us in turn, then looked back at Logan.

"Are we going or what?" Logan asked.

Luck rolled her eyes and took a couple steps away from us. She grew smoothly, black scales covering her arms as they grew longer and thicker. In less than a minute, a black dragon stood in front of us. A silver patch of scales in the perfect shape of a four-leafed clover shone between her shoulders.

Logan climbed on and waved to us. "Come on."

Jack grinned like a little kid and jumped up behind Logan. "Come on, Gallia!"

I hesitated. I knew nothing about Luck, but Logan trusted her. Jack trusted her too, but he trusted everyone. I decided that it was probably the only way to get to where we needed to go, so I walked up to Luck and climbed onto her back.

Her scales were smooth like glass. I sat behind Jack and wrapped my arms around him. "Don't let me fall off okay?"

Jack looked over his shoulder at me. "I won't. I promise."

Luck spread her wings and took to the sky. I squeezed my eyes shut and focused on not thinking about how high up we were.

We landed in front of a huge building. I slid off of Luck's back, landing harder than I meant to on the ground. I almost tripped over my feet as Jack and Logan landed next to me.

Jack put a hand on my shoulder to steady me and laughed. "Careful."

   I grinned. "Thanks, mate."

Luck walked past us, in human form now. She didn't give any of us a second look as she headed into the garden toward a person standing with their back to us.

Logan tapped my shoulder. "Come on, we go this way."

He led the way to the mansion and knocked on the door. A young man opened the door slightly and poked his head out. He looked at us through his glasses. "Um, hi."

"We have to talk to the professor," Logan said.

The man looked at Logan suspiciously. "He's not a professor anymore, you'll have to go."

I frowned. "I thought you said he was Logan," I whispered.

Logan shot me a look that clearly meant 'shut up'. He looked back at the man and pushed the door open. "Beast right? You and I are going to be great friends. You just don't know it yet."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" the man said. "I'm not Beast, I'm Hank. You can't just barge in here!"

Jack and I followed behind Logan, ignoring Hank's protests. Logan looked around the huge entrance hall, down the hallways to the left and right and up the stairs at the back of the room.

"What's all the racket?" a man's voice shouted.

We all looked at the stairs. A man with shoulder length brown hair was making his way down the stairs. He glared at us. A blonde woman stood at the top of the stairs, watching the man with an annoyed expression.

   Logan's mouth dropped open. "Professor?"

"I'm no professor," the man said. "Not anymore."

"What's the surprise for?" Jack asked Logan quietly. "He's just a guy."

Logan looked at Jack harshly. "He's paralyzed from the waist down."

NYEH HEH HEH! Hope you guys liked this chapter. I know it took absolutely forever, but you know how that goes. This is normal for me.

I'm adding another couple characters, not that I need to. For example, Luck, Kate (the woman at the top of the stairs), and Will (the guy that Luck walked to).

May the speed force be with you! Stay determined. . .
