Chapter 17

*Self Edited

The Wrong One

Raian stepped back into his home, gesturing his arm towards what Vodia assumed to be the living room.  “Make yourself at home, I’ll be right back.”

Nodding, Vodia ducked to enter through the slightly tight doorway, finding himself inside a simple hallway.

Glancing around, he noticed that the walls were bare, nothing there to lead to the assumption that there might be someone living here.

The floor of the boat house swayed gently, giving Vodia a small headache due to the constant movement. Taking deep breaths, he allowed his feet to lead him to the single lazy boy in the small place that Raian had indicated towards and took a seat. Leaning forward with his forearms on his knees, Vodia exhaled. Closing his eyes, he prayed quickly, hoping that he was doing the right thing.

“Lisa, I’ll call you later, come on sweetheart.”

Vodia stood up as he heard two pairs of footsteps rumbling down the miniature hallway.

“Don’t you dare talk to me Raian. We’re through. Do you hear me?”

“Babe, please.”

Vodia’s eyes widened as he saw Lisa pick up her shoe and lob it at Raian’s head, who ducked just in time for the shoe to be lost somewhere behind him.

The front door was slammed shut and silence reigned within the tiny room as Vodia waited for Raian to make the first move towards him.

What was happening here?

Running a hand through his hair, Raian crossed his arms and walked to lean on the doorway that would’ve lead to what Vodia presumed to be the bedroom.

“So, how’s Kayana?”

Vodia worked hard to keep his blood from boiling at this man’s casual inquisition to the woman he loved more than his own life, the very woman whom this man had broken when he had left her.

“Who’s Lisa?”

Vodia saw pain lace his expression but knew that he would not leave his innocent and naïve Kayana in the hands of a man that did not know her true worth.

As soon as the vulnerable expression came, it was gone, replaced with a cold glint in Raian’s eyes.

“No one important. I assume you’re here to talk about Kayana, else you wouldn’t have mentioned her name.” Raian paused as he made his way to a silver trolley behind Vodia, an object his keen eyes wouldn’t have noticed had Raian not brought attention to it. It’s small size was misleading, as Raian brought out two glasses from its cabinet and a bottle of what Vodia assumed to be whiskey. Pouring two glasses, Raian left one on the silver patterned tray and turned around, twirling the one he picked up in his hand.
“So let’s talk.”

Vodia tried not to let his annoyance show in his eyes. He knew how to deal with people like Raian. He was a businessman, dealing with difficult people came with his job description. But he knew he had to be very careful to where he was going with this. He didn’t want to hurt Kayana any more than she already was.

Taking a deep breath,  Vodia straightened his shoulders, readying himself for any reaction he may receive.

“My name is Vodia, I am Kayana’s husband. Her father had her marriage promised to me. If I had known her heart belonged to another, I would never have agreed. Obviously, I did not know, which is why I am here.” It was now or never Vodia realised. If he didn’t get it out now, he may not get this chance again. “I would like to reunite you and Kayana.”

Vodia didn’t have any time to register the falling of the glass to the ground. The glass shattered, but it didn’t seem to matter to a stunned Raian. Vodia continued to stare, waiting for the former to say something.

“You’re willing to do that?”

“Not for you, I’ll admit. But yes. I am.”

Raians face split into a grin, one that most likely was a shadow of who he was when Kayana was his, but was still grateful .

Rushing towards him, Raian held out his hand, and when Vodia extended his, he was pulled out of his seat into a bear hug.

Letting his hands hang limply to his side, Vodia simply waited until the unexpected rush of emotions subsided. Pulling back slightly, Vodia gestured for Raian to take the arm chair, himself leaning against the opposite wall, crossing his ankles over one another.

“Before I let this happen, I need to know three things.”

“Anything.”

“Where is Corin?”

Raian’s face visibly darkened as Vodia brought up his little sister. “With my parents. And after what she did, it’s best she stays there.”

Vodia nodded, continuing.

“Would you love Kayana?” The way I do he added mentally.

“Ofcourse! I loved her, I mean, I do love her.”

“Would she be your number one priority?”

“I’m not letting her go again.” Raian spoke with a sudden veracity that nearly had Vodia believing him.

“Who was Lisa?” “

At this, Raian had the decency to dip his head. “It was a business arrangement.”

Although Vodia would never understand those types of ‘business’ deals, he understood that they did happen, though he wasn’t sure if Kayana would. But, it was not his secret to tell.

“There’ll be no one else?” A threat laced Vodia’s voice at this, but at the moment, he didn’t care.

Raian got the message though, as he echoed Vodia. “There’ll be no one else.”

Pushing himself off the wall, Vodia rammed his hands into his pocket.

“It’s her birthday in three days. I think you should meet then. Until that time,” And here Vodia knew he sounded desperate, but he needed this. “Let me have my moments with her.”

Raian’s mind screamed at him to say no, but his heart won over, resounding with a loud yes, and he nodded. This was the man who was giving him back his Kayana. He would do anything for that.

Vodia, also nodded, a look of finality in his eyes as he took a few steps back into the crammed hallway, stepping off the tiny boat and onto the stable ground. As he continued to walk away, Vodia couldn’t help asking himself. Would Kayana be happy here?

The Wrong One

Authors Note, please read.

Please do not be afraid of telling me anything I've missed out, or even just saying hey. It all adds up :).

Anyway, I'd like to know your thoughts on if Vodia is doing the right thing. Is he acting too 'good' ? Does Raian deserve a second chance?

Tell me what you think :).

Hugs, Shay.
