TASK FOUR ENTRIES!!!
District 1 Female. - Emerald. (@anniecrestadistrict4.)
I wake up with a jolt, as I hear a soft crackle of the loud speaker. "This year, the feasts hall be brought forward most of you need something desperately-" Firein starts his voice echoing out of the speaker, but I don't listen. I am already standing up, grabbing at the weapons that I have carefully concealed. I shall be the first in, I shall be the one to get what I need most, but what do I need? What is it I need. I think to myself. I have food, water, weapons even medicine what more could I need. I shrug my shoulders and keep walking. Hoping to get there before everyone else.
I do, as I reach the designated area at the top of the volcano. I see I am first there, my pack is calling yo me begging me to come take it, so I do. I sneak over one of the rope bridges and grab at my bag. Quickly making sure no one else is there I run, clutching my bag tight to my chest I run, praying I won't be caught praying I won't be hurt. Praying there Is something useful in the bag.
I run until I can't run anymore, making sure I am camouflaged I carefully open my bag to see what is inside. I look inside the bag, it is full of makeup. Lipsticks, foundations eye shadows.
"Yeah I soo needed this" I yell at the closest camera. But as I look closer I see that the products could easily be used off camouflage, well if they are applied properly, so that is what I do. I apply the makeup, camouflaging myself into the background smiling slightly as I do it. I send I silent thank you to the Capitol and fall asleep, I am awoken by a loud bang and the Capitol anthem. Fluff faces appear up in the sky, bug i do nog recognise one of them. I shrug my shoulders and go back to a blissful sleep.
District 2 Male. - Caleb Red. (@merthurisawesome.)
I hadn't expected the feast to be so soon. What had made the gamemakers bring it forward? There's only 8 of us left, and we're all tired and injured. I still wonder to myself how i got this far. The lonely saddo from district 2 that no one liked - not even my own parents. If i die today, then i'll die happy knowing i got this far.
I looked solemnly down at my leg and stopped at the point where my Fergus had stabbed me. It had worsened considerably since the tubes. The skin around the wound was red and inflamed, my trouser looked like it had been dunked into a bucket if blood. Every gentle touch brought searing pain that ricketed up my body and made me feel sick. I needed medicine.
I was standing by a tall, wide oak tree. I saw 8 packs sitting innocently on a raised table, un aware of the onslaught which was soon to begin. I needed to think of a gameplan, it would be suicide to do so otherwise. I knew i didn't want to be the first to make a move, i calculated the speed i'd be able to run - which isn't very fast due to my injury. Once i grab my pack i will need to run into the forest and find a stream for some water and some cover like a cave so that i could recover in safety.
The adrenelin was pumping through my vains, it was a nervewracking wait. A figure rushing out from the trees caught my eye: Calypso Arvin. I squinted and i could just make out a broken nose, she ran up and grabbed her pack, which looked like food. As she turned her back a slim wooden arrow flew through the sky, and embedded itself into Calypso's neck. I grimaced as she fell the ground.
Jonas retrieved his bow and grabbed his pack and crouched on the table, arrows at the ready. I watched in horror as Emryselle soon had her life taken by Jonas. This was indeed a sick reminder of what this game was about. Although i smiled as i saw a group of tributes sneak past, they must be all allies.
I was left, and Jonas knew it. He was waiting patiently for me to come out of hiding and into his horrid trap. Jonas had always had it out for me since the day i met him. I shuddered at the experience. I patted my pockets to see what weapons i had. One small blunt rock, a larger sharper rock, 2 poision darts, a penknife and the knife Fergus used to stab me with. I placed the knife in my sock so that the blade was resting on my leg. I grasped the smaller stone and edged closer. With all of my might i lobbed the stone and it flew past Jonas's head and landed 8 metres in front of him. Such a great warrior but so gulliable. Curiously he jumped down off the table and headed towards the sound. I took my chance, i speed walked towards my pack , pushing my leg to the limit. It was within reaching distance and i grabbed it and grinned, now for the get away.
"So you really do have a brain. You're not just skin and bones." taunted Jonas. I slowly turnt around, clutching my pack for all it's worth.
"I have more of a brain than you." i stated, protecting my pride.
"You're just a useless waste of space, i don't know how you lasted this long." replied Jonas
"Neither do i." i said bluntly and clenched my fist and punched him on the steeple. He reeled backwards from the force. His cold eyes stared at me in disgust. His hand soon connected to my face and i felt the burn on my face. He was a lot better trained in martial arts than me, complicated punches and kicks were sent my way. I must be able to beat him.. when all seems lost hope remains. Suddenly a foot plummeted into my chest. I was badly winded and i staggered backwards and tripped over my own feet. Jonas laughed wickedly. Jonas came and pinned down my arms, i tried to lift my arms, but there was no avail. He looked down to my wound and then back up to me "You're going to suffer, then die." he said. As quick as a flash he grabbed and arrow and plunged it into my wound. I howled in agony, my face twisted in pain, he plunged it deeped and twisted it. "Pl-pl-please stop!" i begged, hoping for mercy. My stomach twisted in knots and i wanted it to end. No, i will carry on! Quick think, think Caleb!
Here goes nothing, i began to feel myself pass out, i headbutted Jonas hard and he shot up. I grabbed the knife from my sock and chucked it. I crossed my fingers and hoped it met my target... I stabbed right into his heart, blood gushed from the wound and he fell to the floor. He was dead. I stood up and gasped in pain, i looked down and the sight of the wound made me feel sick. I limped over to his body and shut his eyes. I had survived!
I opened the pack and felt like jumping for joy. It was a cream for my wound, it was like heaven in a pot. My life depended on getting this pack and i did it! I succeeded in something, i felt myself welling in pride. I couldm't wait any longer, i felt like i was going to faint any moment from pain. I opened the tub and it contained a light yellow cream and i read the card which said "Apply Generously" I scooped it up and smothered it on my woumd. It stung momentarily, and made my eyes water but a soothing feeling soon took over. It helped almost instantly. Satisfied i leavt the packs and made my way into the forest in search for shelter.

A feast? Need something desperately? What do I need? For a moment I fooled myself into thinking I was fine but the sudden swimming of my vision reminds me that I’m definitely not. Maybe it was the smoke in that tube or maybe it’s something else, but I haven’t been feeling too good. Nausea, dizziness, headaches and persistent coughing fits have made it increasingly hard to do anything, I can’t sleep at night because I feel too ill and every time we try to hunt I scare the prey away with my coughing which also alerts the other tributes to our whereabouts. Ok, so maybe a feast wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Feasts are dangerous, I know that, but I need to get help. If I stay like this I will die, there’s no doubting that. So I’m going, that’s settled. I could very easily get injured or die there, after all these things are designed to draw us in when the show is getting a bit boring, but I’m probably going to die in here anyway so I might as well go down fighting for life.
“What do we need?” Calypso asks.
“Well I don’t know about you, but I need medicine” I say, trying to fight the urge to cough again and being rewarded with an urge to be sick instead which I fight back. There is little enough food in my stomach already, I’m not going to risk losing it. Understanding dawns on Calypso’s face as she realises I’m right.
“What time is it?” I say, looking up at the sky.
“Morning, that’s all I know”
“And this thing’s at midday. We better get moving if we are going to make it in time. The sooner we get there the better, hopefully we can just grab our pack and go before too many other tributes are there”
We grab our few belongings and head off towards the Cornucopia. The sun rises quickly here and even though we seek the shelter of the trees it is still sweltering and I find myself staring longingly into the inky water that surrounds us in here. We have been sticking fairly close to the beach.
Even though it is dark and no doubt full of plenty of dangers the GameMakers have dreamt up for us, it is still the closest we have to a the sea here and it feels a little bit like home. But we put our backs to the water now, heading further inland towards the volcano where the Cornucopia is situated. We don’t speak which is just as well, I don’t think I’m up to talking right now. My stomach is churning and my throat feels tight and my whole body is trembling slightly. I’m scared. I’m only 15, why should I be hear? I guess I always knew it would come to this when I volunteered for John but I can’t say I’m looking forward to dying. Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to fight, I’m going to fight as hard as I can, but I know that the odds aren’t exactly in my favour. I don’t want to die. It’s simple, the simplest thing in the world, I simply don’t want to die. I want to see my family again. Mum, dad, Lily, John. No! Don’t think about it! Don’t think about them! I feel tears in my eyes and my stomach churns even more. I blink fiercely and wipe my hand across my eyes, pretending to be wiping the sweat from my forehead.
We’ve left the patch of trees we were in now and before us is a desert dotted with boulders and scrubby bushes. For someone who has grown up next to the sea, this barren wasteland is distressing to say the least.
“Depressing, isn’t it?” Calypso says.
“Just a little bit” I reply. We take a moment to gaze out at the dead space in front of us before bringing ourselves to head out into the heat. One foot in front of the other, that’s all I know for the next however long it takes to reach the Cornucopia. Left, right, left, right, left, right, stumble, left right. The landscape is featureless and I can’t tell if we have just gone 100 meters or a mile. Left, right, left, right. After what seems like forever but at the same time seems like far too soon, we can see the Cornucopia.
“I guess now would be good time to start trying to be inconspicuous” I say, ducking behind a bush. Calypso follows. We make the rest of the way to the Cornucopia dodging from cover to cover, hiding behind boulders and bushes until we are within sprinting distance of the Cornucopia, and the packs. At the sight of the modest pack marked 4 I feel suddenly aware of the urge to cough and the slight dizziness I’m feeling. I shake my head to clear it and swallow. I glance over a Calypso and give her an encouraging smile which she returns.
“Ready?” I whisper and she nods her head.
“You grab the pack, I’ll cover you” she says.
“Ok” I brace myself to run “On three. One… Two……..” I slow my breathing, picturing my run to the pack. I loosen my sword in its scabbard, closing my fingers around the steel handle.
“Three”
I leap from the bush we were hiding and run as fast as my legs can carry me towards the table in front of me, hurtling towards the pack. I hear feet behind me and without thinking I pull my sword from its scabbard and swing it in an arc as I turn on my heels. I take a second to take in the person behind me. It’s the female tribute from district 9, Emryselle Hawke. I keep my sword swinging and close my eyes as the blade makes contact with her skull. It produces a sickening crack. I don’t even look, just turn around and keep running. There are more footsteps behind me and I turn to see who it is but Calypso is yelling at me to keep going, telling me she has it under control. I spin back towards the table and start running again. Finally I reach it, laying my hands on the rough fabric of the pack. I don’t pause, just grab it and turn back, swinging it over my shoulders as I do. I see the body of Indigo Night slumped on the floor with Calypso standing over her, panting. I’m just starting to hope we will get out of this when I feel an impact slamming into me, knocking all of the air out of my lungs.
I don’t have time to get it back however because a knife is coming down towards my head, guided by Caleb Red, district 2. I quickly move my head to one side as the blade hits the ground where I just was. I role over onto my front and clamber to my feet as quickly as I can, ducking his next blow as I do so. I see my sword lying on the ground a couple of meters away and I know there isn’t time to get it so instead I draw one of my knives and throw it. I can’t say I’m very good with throwing knives but at this range it’s hard to miss. The knife slams into his chest, causing him to gasp and fall to the floor. I let him keep the knife, I don’t really want to retrieve it. I run, grabbing my sword as I pass it, leaving Caleb gasping on the floor and the lying still. As I reach Calypso I turn back for a final look, seeing two tributes fighting by the table. One of them falls and I quickly identify her as Angela Kopperstone falls to the floor. Calypso tugs my arm and we set off running again, desperately trying to get as far away from there as possible.
Only once we reach the cover of the trees again do we stop. We slump on the floor in the shade and I shrug the pack off my shoulders. I close my eyes for a moment, trying to regain some energy. Calypso takes the bag from my hands and opens it. I open my eyes as she removes a small loaf of bread and a small bottle of clear liquid with a label which says “Drink up”.
“I think this is for you” she says, handing me the bottle.
“Thanks” I say, taking it. I unscrew the lid and take a sniff. It certainly smells strongly of medicine. I close my eyes and down the medicine in one mouthful. It tastes foul but after a moment of coughing I feel it starting to sooth my raw throat and the headache I have had non-stop since my encounter with the fire begins to fade.
I sigh contentedly and lean back against the tree as Calypso breaks off a bit of bread and passes it to me.
Well I think to myself at least I’m not dead.

“Calypso? Calypso?” A voice calls, drifting slowly into my dream. It’s a male voice…and that accent…it sounds…it sounds so like him, so like my brother. I open my eyes, tears already beginning to fill them. I try to focus on the person next to me, trying to work out what is going on. “It’s Jason…” He says quietly and slowly the name registers as the full horrors of yesterday come flooding back in a tidal wave that almost knocks the air out of me. “Are you alright?” He asks gently, reaching out a hand to me but I shy away.
“I’m fine.” I say, slightly more sternly than I intended, as I quickly wipe my eyes and turn my face away. However I soon come to the conclusion this is not the best of ideas, for all I know this guy is going to kill me at any moment. As he sets about cooking what looks like some rabbit over the fire I check through my pack to find everything still there…including the knife. Well, it’s nothing more than a penknife really…but it could finish him off…it would be like gutting a fish…well…sort of.
“I don’t mean to harm you Calypso and I hope that you will mean me none in return.” He says, somehow sensing my thoughts even though my back is turned. I sigh, why was I even considering it? What’s the point in winning anyway? Maybe Serena and Percy would be better off without me; anyone connected with me seems to get grief for it…maybe it would be better if I never went back.
“Here, eat up.” He says, passing me a leg of rabbit. I take it slowly, gazing at the meat for a few moments before hunger kicks in and I being to rip of hunks of flesh like a wild beast. Jason just sits there, slowly eating his rabbit leg, watching me.
When I have finished eating I place the bone down on the grass in front of me, suddenly feeling awkward as he stares at me in silence. All of a sudden a great booming voice comes from above, like some almighty god. The voice tells of a feast at the cornucopia at noon, where something we ‘desperately’ need is awaiting us. A small part of me is grateful to the voice for breaking the awkward silence. Jason looks at me,
“A feast already, the capitol must be getting bored.” He says and I nod.
“But I’m not going, there is nothing I need.” I say and he gives me a questioning look.
“What about your arm?” He asks, and I look down at the blood-stained fabric bandaging the cut on my arm I got from the boy at the cornucopia.
“It’s nothing, it will be fine.” I say in all honesty, I have learnt a lot about cuts and bruise over the years of raising Serena.
“Are you sure? It looked pretty deep.” He says,
“It’s fine! Honestly! Why are you so desperate to get me to go to this feast are you trying-” I suddenly trail off as I realise what he just said. “What do you mean ‘It looked pretty deep’? You’ve never seen it…unless…it was you. You pull him off me…it was you who saved my life.” I say, realisation dawning on me. He looks almost sheepish as his eyes fall down to the floor. “Why?” I ask and he shrugs.
“I owed you.” He says, looking up at me for a moment before getting to his feet.
“Come on, I don’t know about you but I need weapons, food, water, anything that could be useful. I think we should go and weigh out our chances.” He says.
“Since when was it ‘we’ and ‘our’?” I ask, staying put.
“Safety in numbers” He says, “And, to be honest, I would do with the company, it won’t look so strange when I talk to myself if you’re there.” He says with a small smile and I sigh, getting to my feet and picking up my small pack.
“Fine, just talk quietly when you do it, ok?” I say and he smiles and nods,
“Of course m’lady.” He says and I roll my eyes at him before walking off in the direction of the mountain, my new ally close behind. We walk for what feels like hours, Jason mumbles to himself every now and again but other than that we remain silent. As the sun begins to get closer and closer to the centre of the sky we begin to near the cornucopia. Keeping to the shadows, we slowly climb up towards the huge metal horn, almost blinded by the intense sunlight reflecting off the smooth golden surface.
“What now?” I hiss to Jason and he shrugs,
“Now we do the smart thing…let someone else try first.” He says, repositioning himself behind the rock we are crouching behind. I glance up at the sky; the sun is now directly above us.
“It’s midday…but I don’t see anyone.” I whisper,
“That’s because they are not stupid, they will be doing the same as us, we just have to wait for one of them to crack.” He says, his eyes fixed on the table just inside the mouth of the cornucopia and the packs on it and at the blue pack labelled ‘4’.
Suddenly movement catches my eye as a girl with long black hair – a little like my own - darts out from nowhere. She sprints towards the cornucopia and is only feet from the table when something dark and thin flies through the air and collides with her. My eyes dart over to where the arrow came from, trying to spot the girl’s killer.
“Told you, always let someone else go first.” Jason whispers.
“Yeh well what do we do now?” I ask.
“Now we sterilise the threat.” He says and I stare blankly and he sighs. “Now we take out whoever is taking them out.” He says, “Come on. We slowly slink round towards where the arrow came from, keeping well hidden as we do. Suddenly Jason holds out a hand, stopping me from going any further. Silently he points a little ahead of us to where a girl with straight brown hair sits in hiding, her bow in her hand, an arrow already strung, ready to fire. We slowly slip into hiding and wait, watching her as she raising her bow again. Slowly, Jason raises his sword and begins to creep forwards towards her. I poke my head out of my hiding place to watch as she lets the arrow fly and a few seconds later it has hit home. Jason quickly slips behind a rock as she looks round and I duck away, my heart pounding. Suddenly the sound of voices comes drifting through the air.
“Good shot, for a miner’s daughter.” A girl’s voice says and I clamp a hand over my mouth to stifle my breathing as the owner of the voice stops just in front of my hiding place. I hear an arrow being left fly and then the clunk as it hits metal. “Aww you wanna play soldiers? Good, so do we.” She says and I hear another arrow fly and again deflected and a boy laugh before a girls shrieks of agony. “Oh, I think that means we win.” The girl says laughing,
“Come on Emerald.” The boy says as he turns to leave.
“Wait!” The girl suddenly cries, and the boy stops, looking right at Jason’s hiding place. I can just see his face; he looks frightened but tries to look calm when he spots me. “Can’t you hear it?” She asks her ally and he shrugs. She smiles, turning to stare towards Jason. “Come out, come out whoever you are.” She whispers in a twisted, singsong voice. Jason looks at me, then towards the cornucopia and then back to me and nods. I gulp, realising what he is saying but slowly nod. Then he closes his eyes, his head nodding once, twice, three times before he pushes off from the rock, his sword in his hand and he leaves his hiding place.
“Catch me if you can!” He calls, waving at them before turning and running off.
“Get him!” The girl yells as they race off after him, unable to resist a hunt. As soon as they are gone I rush out from my hiding place and begin to run towards the cornucopia. My heart pounds in my chest as I grow nearer and nearer. I don’t even know what is in the pack, I don’t even care, I don’t care about winning anymore, but something keeps me running for it like it’s the only thing in the world that matters. I guess the reason is simple, Jason wants it, and I owe him this, he saved my life, technically twice, I can’t let him down.
Suddenly, I skid to a halt in front of the table, grabbing the blue pack marked ‘4’ by the string that pulls the top shut. Then I turn and begin to run again, run away from the cornucopia, away from the feast, away from the other tributes and away from the murder.
I finally arrive at the stream where Jason and I agreed to meet if we were split up, completely out of breath and sweating like crazy but the pack still safely in my grasp. “What took you so long?” Jason asks with a smirk from where he sits by the water’s edge.
“Wh-at? I ran-all-the way!” I pant. “Do you-know-how far-that- is?!” I say between breathes and he smiles.
“Just joking, come on then, what’s in the pack?” He asks but I fall to my knees by the little, pure stream and cup the crystal clear water in my hands before lapping it up like a dog. Jason sits watching me, an amused look on his face.
“What?” I ask as I sit back on my heels once I have finished.
“Nothing.” He says with a grin and I roll my eyes.
“You’re so annoying.” I sigh and he frowns.
“No I’m not! Who saved your life? Who lead the careers away? Who is too handsome for his own good?” Jason asks and I roll my eyes.
“As I said, annoying.” I say and he smiles.
“So it’s annoying I saved your life and lead the deadly duo away from you?” He asks
“Yes! It was stupid! You shouldn’t have put yourself in danger! You want to go home!” I cry before suddenly realising what I have said, how I said it.
“What do you mean? Of course I want to go home, don’t you?” He asks.
“Of course I do.” I mumble, looking down, “It’s just…” It’s just everyone would be better off if I didn’t. “…It doesn’t matter.” I say with a sigh. Jason looks hard at me for a few more moments before breaking his gaze and looking down at the pack on the ground.
“Well then, I think it’s time to open this little beauty” He says picking the pack up, “The tension is killing me.” He says with a smile and I nod.
“Ok.” I say, moving in to look as Jason pulls off the string and the top of the bag opens. Suddenly in a haze of feathers and a flutter of wings a small bird flies out of the top and flies off. I gaze up at it, watching it go.
“It’s bread, from home.” Jason says, distracting me from the bird. “Look.” He says, passing it to me. I look down at the fish shaped bread with a slightly green tint in my hand and suddenly tears begin to well up in my eyes. “A bird and some bread…why send us that?” Jason asks and I look back up at the sky, to the distance shape of the bird flying off towards the sun.
“A swallow.” I say quietly.
“What?” Jason asks.
“It’s a swallow.” I say, “They are meant to guide people home.” I say with a small smile. “And this is not just bread from home; this is bread from my home, from my little sister. She always said that the fish looked unhappy, it had no eye or mouth, so she would give it seed eye and seaweed mouth.” I say, looking down at the bread, the fish smiling up at me.
“Oh…but…why?” Jason asks and I smile, looking up at him, new hope filling my heart.
“To remind us what we are fighting for.”

HAS EXTRA TIME!!!!
District 7 Female. - Aaliyah Rivers. (@ArizonaWestwood)
I was woken up by the sound of Firein's voice booming throughout the arena. I nearly fell out of the tree I'd been sleeping in but thankfully I'd remembered to tie myself to the tree the night before. Firein was making an announcement...
"Attention tributes! This year the feast shall be brought forward, each of you needs something desperately - and it is our duty to supply it..." 'Medicine' I thought "...Whether it is medicine, food, water or weapons, it will be awaiting you at the Cornucopia at midday. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favour!"
"I need that medicine" I mumbled to myself.
My reaction to the announcement was shock. They'd never brought the feast forward so early in the games before and since the Capital were providing us all with something we needed desperately I knew there must be a catch. The injury to my shoulder had gotten worse too. I'd been hit with a poison tipped arrow by the girl from district 8. I was surprised I'd survived so long.
I knew what would be in my pack straight away. Medicine. I was in constant pain and since I could barely move my shoulder it prohibited me from doing much hunting for food. I was so desperate for the pain to go away that when I'd heard Firein's announcement I could almost feel the relief of pain in my shoulder that the medicine would give me.
I knew it would be extremely dangerous since all the other tributes would be there but I knew I had to go. Otherwise I would die, and never get home.
I looked up at the sky. It wouldn't be long before midday and the feast would begin. I decided to set off since I didn't want to be the last one there and my pack be gone.
I untied myself from the tree I'd been sleeping in and collected the rope. Then I carefully climbed down to the ground.
I started walking in the direction of the volcano where the Cornucopia was. I had an arrow loaded in my bow in case I ran into any of the other tributes.
After only a couple of kilometres the found started to become steep and I knew I would eventually have to climb up the volcano. And that wasn't going to be easy with my shoulder being in so much pain.
I finally reached the bottom of the volcano. I knew it was going to be a long walk up and it wasn't very long until midday. Plus, the likes where that there was other tributes about.
I put my backpack with my rope and some food on my back and I loaded my bow with an arrow and had my knife close to hand. I started to walk up to the Cornucopia.
I'd only been walking for about ten minutes when another tribute appeared in my view. It was the girl from district 1. She was walking up to the Cornucopia. I tried to make my way around the volcano a bit to try and avoid being seen but as soon as I'd started moving she spotted me! I saw her pick up one of her knives and she threw one at me. It missed me by an inch. Then she leaped towards me and I shot an arrow straight at her. She dropped down...dead.
The district 1 girl was the first tribute I'd killed. It wasn't exactly a great feeling. But I had to shake it off. I picked up my bow and I set off for the Cornucopia again.
Thankfully there weren't any more complications on the way to the Cornucopia. Once I got there I could see several packs each with a district number. My eyes were instantly drawn to the only pack with a number 7 on it.
I stayed at the edge of the bridges that led to the centre of the Cornucopia. I didn't want to be seen so I held back for a while.
After only a few minutes the district 9 girl run towards the Cornucopia and grab her pack. She was starting to run away when the boy from district 2 crept up be hind her and held his knife to her throat. The girl started screaming and dropped her pack into the lava below. She kept struggling and trying to wriggle from the boy's grip. Then the girl from district 9 fell backwards and so did the boy from district 2. They fell. Fell into the lava below. I could hear their screams. But I blocked them out.
After the screaming finally stopped I took a look around me. The coast seemed to be clear. So I ran straight over the bridge and to the Cornucopia. I grabbed my pack from the table and started running back over the bridge so I could find somewhere relatively safe to sleep for the night. And apply the medicine to my shoulder.
Just as I was about to step off the bridge and onto solid ground I was tackled to the ground. I managed to stand up and in front of me was the girl from district 4. She lunged at me again but I managed to dodge her that time. She got out a knife from her belt and threw it straight at me. It left a deep gash on my legs and I could feel the bottom of my trousers become soaked with my own blood. I was struggling to stand but I knew I had to stay standing if I was going to get away from the Cornucopia alive.
The district 4 girl ran towards me with another knife and aimed it at my had. I was tackled to the ground again.
After a lot of struggling I managed to kick the knife from the district 4 girl's hand and just as she was about to get up I grabbed an arrow from my pouch and thrust it into her throat. She fell to the ground. And her body lay still on the bridge.
I considered stealing the other tributes' packs but I decided against it when I heard shouting coming from the opposite side of the Cornucopia. I ran back across the bridge. If you could call it running. I limped. I limped as fast as I could in search of a tree to hide myself in.

Always with the fanfare! This is the noisiest games we've ever had in history! In the past, you could go two or three days with just your fear, other tributes, and the gamemaker ploys to contend with. -those being unannounced ploys. Katniss' ongoing revolution was obviously making Mr. Magwhite sweat.
Now, every time someone is resting, they get the rude awakening of the Panem fanfare and MORE announcements!
Shaking with cold and anger, Emryselle turned her attention to the sky. The headache from the hallucinogen induced panic trip yesterday and the self-inflicted bloody nose was absolutely horrendous. -Pounding through her skull like an army on the move. What could Magwhite possibly want right now?
As his face appeared in the sky, Magwhite began his prepared speech without preamble. Emryselle thought this was certainly odd because he truly loved to give a good performance. Right now, he almost seemed... rushed?
"This year the feast shall be brought forward. Each of you needs something desparately- and it is our duty to supply it. Whether it be food, medicine, or weapons; it will be waiting for you at the cornucopia at midday. Good luck! -and may the odds be ever in your favor!" And with that, the sudden announcement was over.
As the anthem faded away into the silence, Emryselle began to gather her things. This was certainly a trap. Historically the second highest death rate in the Hunger Games occurred at the feast, but she had to go. It was true, she had not eatten in so long that her vision was spotty and her tongue felt swollen to the roof of her mouth. She knew she would get food there, but most importantly, her hunger had created within her a dead-pool of emotion. She no longer cared if it was her to do the killing, she just wanted this games to be over. -And, she wanted to live. The feast was the perfect chance to end this or be ended as far as she was concerned.
Pulling out the knife that Ronan had given her at the cornucopia, she fingered the edge. She could see her reflection in the blade, but she didn't recognize the girl in the reflection. The girls, Ronan, dad, Emryselle just couldn't let them down. Tucking the blade back into her belt she started to jog.
Darting from tree to tree and shimmying around obstacles, Emryselle kept her ears tuned for the sound of others. Suddenly before her was the lava-field. The trees at the edge still smoked and smoldered, creating their own little version of hell in this space. Not a soul was in sight, but as she looked, a figure streaked out of the woods and was frantically trying to reach the mountain.
Looking closely as she could through her hunger-ridden eyes, Emryselle though it might be the girl from 12, Angela. 'If she makes it to the cornucopia, she could sit there and wait for the rest to show up, pick them off one by one,' Emryselle thought. She'd seen the district 12 girl with a sword and bow during training- absolutely lethal, Emryselle blanched as the sun caught and reflected back off of something in Angela's hand... it was a sword.
"Too much to hope that she'd be injured and unarmed," Emryselle mumbled. Ryan, watching his sponsored tribute on the live feed ran a nervous hand through his blue hair. To his left, Magwhite giggled, actually GIGGLED. Ryan had made sure that the shield had been transfered into the labyrinth with Emryselle. He'd argued against setting the forrest on fire, that had been done two years ago. Until the feast, he was not allowed to offer any tangible objects to his tribute, but he could still rig the game in her favor. It was his game. He wouldn't lose.
'Injured and unarmed, coming right up.' Ryan thought to himself as he programmed some strings into the mainframe.
Emryselle watched as Angela came face to face with a sudden volcanic vent. The blast sent the crust of hardened lava up and it slammed into Angela's right shoulder. Had she been able to swirve she'd be ok, but it gave no warning. One second, hardened swirls and eddies of lava, the next a 3 foot wide hole. Emryselle could see that while the large piece crushed into her shoulder, it wasn't the only piece that hit her.
Angela dropped the sword and clutched her arm to her body. She pushed forward obstinately, perhaps she had made the mountain a personal goal? -she'd die if she faced 7 tributes unarmed! Emryselle looked around quickly and dashed out of her hiding place. Not even a full minute ago, she'd wished to herself that Angela be injured and unarmed, but now that she was, Emryselle found that she couldn't bear it.
It wasn't easy, and once or twice she nearly fell overboard, but finally she made it across and launched herself at the bag labled with a big red "9" on it. Not bothering to open it, she swiped up the district 12 bag as well as the district 4 bag and made a run for it. There was one other tribute living and Emryselle was not going to wait around for her to show up. Glancing over at the table again, she noticed that the district 6 bag was still there.... at break-neck speed, Emryselle ran for her life.
Employing the same tactic as before with her shield, she careened wildly down the slope of the volcano nearly bull-dozing the figure climbing up. There was a flash of black hair and white teeth and a scream and then Emryselle was past. She did not stop to catch her breath at the bottom but left her shield where it lay and ran as fast as she could as far as she could before opening the packs she'd grabbed.
First, her own, and she tucked into the food like a ravenous wolf, barely chewing before pouring the water down her throat. She choked a few times before she slowed down and began to eat sensibly. When she was done she checked the other packs, arrows, knives (hand-held and throwing), rope, darts, and more food. Transferring the knives, rope, and food into her own pack along with the tokens she'd retrieved from her comrades, she hid the remaining supplies under the roots of a tree and then climbed up into it where she used the rope to strap herself to the trunk and promptly fell asleep.
Ryan clapped his hands together and called out to his sister... "I will always win! -only 2 tributes left and my tribute is one of them!"
On the other side of the room Magwhite chuckled darkly. This was just too much fun!
