Chapter 4: At the Roof

Chapter 4

At the Roof

I guess it's time to stay away from Jarred. I fell for him again just because of that stupid dream. I thought everything was going well.

Jarred hurried trying to catch up with me. "Hey, is there something wrong? You're weird today."

Those last phrases reminded me of what he said in my dream. Aren't I being punished enough? Ohgosh! Make this stop. I am not weird for heaven's sake!

I calmed myself down. "Of course there's nothing wrong. I am not weird today. I am perfectly fine. I didn't have any nightmare, or I did. But that nightmare wasn't actually about you that's getting me weirder these days." I uttered fast, sounding defensive. I completely had no idea about what I just said.

"Easy, girlfriend." he said while tapping my back.

"Huh? What? Girlfriend?" I asked quickly, sounding defensive again.

"What? Did I say girlfriend? I said best friend" then he chuckled.

"Ugh!" I let out a heavy sigh. "I guess I'll see you around later."

"But we're on the same class this first period. Let's go!" Without letting me say a word, he grabbed my hand fast dragging me towards the classroom.

He just can't stop doing such things, huh? Though I somehow appreciate it, since he's my best friend.

It's 10:30, I need to get to Trigonometry. I'm doooooooomed! I ran as fast as I could to reach the classroom before Professor Couch.

"OUCH!" I realized I bumped into someone. Woah! Deja vu. Enough of that! My things are scattered all around the floor. Now there's no hope that I'm going to reach the classroom in time. I started picking up my things when one guy approached me.

"I'm sorry. Are you alright?" I looked up for one moment, it was Kirk Calixte, Jarred's best bud.

"Yeah, I'm fine." he helped me pick my things up. "Thank you." I smiled sheepishly.

He chuckled. "Well, aren't you hurrying up for your class or something?"

Darn! I totally forgot about that. I started to get exaggerated. "Uuhh! Yeah, thanks for helping me. I have got to get to Trigonometry before my Professor. Bye." I started running, nearly crying.

I'm not really supposed to fear Professor Couch. But he just hates it when somebody's late. One time, he almost failed my classmate for showing up late for less than three minutes. I looked down at my watch, and it's already 10:42. Darn! My travelling fantasies would be over. I am not taking summer school! I. WILL. NOT! I started running even faster. Wishing that prof. isn't there yet.

*KIRK

Did I just saw tears fell down her eyes? Wow, Trigonometry must be really important to her. Great! There's Jarred. I'm going to his way until I stepped on something. I looked down and saw a book. A Trigonometry book.

"This must be Krystal's." I muttered to myself.

"Hey dude!" Jarred said tapping my back. "Are you coming to the library? We have to do our research, or else we won't be enjoying our summer. C'mmon let's go!"

I have got to get this book to Krystal. Fast! "I'll catch up with you guys later. I... I just need to go... uhm... Somewhere."

"Look, dude. If we don't get to pass our research papers later today, we'll be doomed. Let me repeat, we won't be enjoying our summer partying at clubs all night, instead we'll be stuck here for summer school." Jarred is exaggerating and at the same time serious, I couldn't help but laugh.

"Seriously. I need to go somewhere. I will go to the library, ok? You guys go ahead." hoping they just carry on. And they did. I stared for a minute thinking about where am I supposed to go again? Oh! To Krystal's Trigonometry classroom.

I think I am just in time. I saw Krystal from the outside of the door, excusing with her professor.

"Please Professor! I'm telling the truth, I bumped into someone and all my things fell on the floor. That's why I'm late." I heard Krystal.

Oh! So now she's using the incident to get out of this one, huh? Well, glad that could help. I entered the room. All eyes were on me.

"She's telling the truth, sir. I was texting that time, that so I really didn't know where I was going" I turned to look at Krystal, "Here's your book. You left it lying there."

I hand her the book. I touched her hand, I felt a spark. I wonder if she did, too. I doubt it. She's expression-less the whole time I saw her in this room, except the I'm-telling-the-truth expression on her face.

"Ahh! I see you're telling the truth Ms. Jones. I'll let this one pass. You can sit now." Krystal sighed as she heard this words from her professor. "And you Mister, you can go now."

I left the classroom and smiled the whole way to the library. What the heck am I feeling?

*KRYSTAL

Good thing I left the book, or else I'm going to taste hell this summer. I sat beside Tiffani, and chat her the whole class. It was then the class was finished that I realized having her as my friend was only in my dream.

"I'm sorry Tiffani, I didn't mean to chat you out the whole period. It's just that..." I apologize and starting to get to the point of telling her about my dream.

"It's ok." she smiled. "Wanna go eat lunch together?" she asked. I agreed. Since we're friends now, in reality for sure, I decided not to let her know. After all, it's just a dream.

"Hey, that man is hot, right?" Tiffani's grinning while we're on our way to the cafeteria.

"Who? That nerd over there? Ok, I'll pass. She's all yours girl." I joked. We both chuckled.

"No, seriously. I mean that guy who brought you your book at Trigo." she's really smiling now. More like blushing.

"Gosh, Kirk?" I asked and she nodded. "Oh, he's fine."

"That's all you could say? Fine? Fine!" she's being sarcastic, I could tell. But she kept on chuckling and smiling.

It's probably ten in the evening when I heard my phone rang. Who could be calling in this late hour, attempting to ruin my good night sleep? I grabbed my phone and checked the caller's ID. It's Jarred. Ugh!

"What do you want?" I answered.

"Could you help me out on my assignment? Pleaseeeeeeeeee?" he's sounding annoying as ever.

"Woah, you sound desperate. Hang on, I'll be there on a sec- hey wait! You needed something from me, why should I be the one to come?" I asked using my sarcastic tone he's used to in hearing.

"Please?" He repeated. "How could you resist your best friend, huh?" I heard a smug in his laugh.

"Alright! Just to keep your mouth shut" I finally agreed with a hint of sarcasm involved.

*JARED

I got her, which is a score for me!

I heard her car outside. I went out to greet her.

"You came!" I said brightly and half-surprised. She really did. As I was saying, SCORE!!!

"Yeah, right" tossing me her car keys and heading to the door without waiting for me. A good friend, huh?

After she greeted mom and dad, we finally went upstairs and into my room.

"So what do you want?" As usual, she's using her sarcastic tone again.

"I want you to help me in... I want you to... yeah, help me with..." I can't continue. I really didn't need any help at all. I just want her to myself this night, since I know I can't spend the summer with my best friend.

"With what?!" Krystal interfered.

"With... I want you to help me-" I'm doing my best to find the right words. Or else she's going to kill me. RUNNNN!

"Spit it!" She almost yelled. But I can't see any anger in her face, so I'm safe.

"With French" Did I just said FRENCH? She's not good at French. On second thought, I'm doomed!

"WAIT?! WHAT? French? Are you kidding me? Why the hell do you want me to tutor you in French? I'm not good at that. You're almost fluent in French how come you want somebody to tutor you in - Wait? Aha! What is it huh? What did you want me here at this very late hour?" she asked while looking at me suspiciously in the eyes, as if she could read my mind. Alright, I give up. I'm telling her.

"Well, since I can't have you this summer might as well have you now" I grinned innocently.

"What?" she's kind of shocked when she heard that. I think she misunderstood that part. Oh, well.

"Enough of that, let's go to our hiding place" I stated as I go out through the window.

The roof of the kitchen is our hiding place since we're young. Now that we're young adults we don't go there often. Knowing that my parents already knew that place so it's not a hiding place anymore.

"Why are we even here? I mean, I already knew the part where you... uh, never mind" she's sounding awkward. I couldn't help but laugh.

"Could you spend the night here?" Crossing my fingers at my back hoping she would agree.

"Are you kidding? There's school tomorrow!" she yelled, but she's not angry at all. Minutes passed.

"Oh, I guess one night couldn't hurt" she agreed again. Yes! Another score for me. We sat down on the slippery roof and having a nice chat and reminiscing the old days.
