Ch 46: Weapon
On the fourth day, we stayed in Burningshield, I found another weird thing happened to my friend.
Olivier asked for a cloth to cover her nose and mouth. Was she having an excellent plan for avoiding the young Jin? Nah, I believed it wouldn't be the issue. Everyone who knew her or even only saw her I was 100% sure that they would notice her with that long-ass black hair. It was almost like a walking mop but with black cloth. Also, it was like a waterfall but black or... it was like a walking black paint.
My point was she wouldn't get to hide if she was still keeping that kind of hairstyle.
The only one who was kinda sad with Olivier's transformation was Jin. On daily Olivier, we could only see her mouth as her eyes were covered with her bangs. But now, there was nothing to be seen as everything was covered.
"Just ask her what's the reason behind her face cloth..." I offered a suggestion to Jin. "Well, that's if that thing annoys you so much."
Just like that, I left Jin speechless with his next action.
The next thing that happened was regarding Storm and Kaoru. They brought good news from the barracks. It seemed like the chief knight was elated to have Storm joining the army and Kaoru as the knight nurse. Supposedly, Storm's case was intentional but Kaoru's wasn't that intentional. In fact, Kaoru was invited because she could 'heal' the army just by looking at her and listening to her voice and song. Though she preferred another job, Kaoru was delighted to have people appreciate her skills and appearance.
"Well, that guy has good eyes on talents," Azriel suddenly joined the chat after overhearing my, Elise, and Ixora's chat.
"You mean the chief knight?" I asked.
"Who else?" Azriel turned the question back. "He is a bit lethargic but he knows good people. So, I'm not that surprised that he would recruit Storm and Kaoru."
"He could recruit Koko and Ixora too, right?" I questioned the chief's ability as I knew that Koko and Ixora were super athletic.
"No no... we are working in the palace kitchen now..." Ixora shook her hand to make a justification. "I do agree that working at the barracks is way more fun, though."
"Then why?"
Ixora giggled at Koko who sat in the back-most chair of the class.
"It's time for us to get ready for cooking," Koko answered with a bit of yelling. "We won't want to eat raw stones when we are staying together."
The girls screamed. It meant that Koko fixed his eyes on marrying Ixora soon, that was what we thought. Overjoyed with the news, we danced in circles with Ixora to summon more happiness. Catching a hint, Olivier joined us in the circle.
"Ya, just like that, the chief knight lost his two talents..." Azriel sighed.
"What do you mean by just like that?" Elise stabbed Azriel with her words. "That's so rude, you know. You need to feel empathy more and be happy with your friends' happiness."
"It's okay, Elise..." Ixora tapped Elise's shoulder. "Azriel was the first to congratulate us on this good news."
"He knew first?" I curiously asked. Ixora nodded.
"How come?" I followed with another question.
"You need to see the barracks with your own eyes, Luna," Azriel made a suggestion. "So you would understand everything."
Well, I guess it should be the best choice. I fixed my direction to the barracks, following Storm, Kaoru, and Azriel. The knights were busy sparring with each other but my eyes caught something more interesting.
A white-haired kid with lethargic eyes between sparring knights.
"Good day, Chief."
Storm bowed at the kid. The kid nodded and asked Storm to change his clothes to armor while Kaoru already left the spot for the palace infirmary. I shook my head feeling disbelief. I might be wrong so I focused my concentration on the kid. Other knights who just came also bowed at him and called him a freaking chief.
"That kid... is the chief..." I whispered.
"He is the chief," Azriel smiled. "Well, this kingdom never sees the age. If you have the talent, then you fit in."
Oh, so that was the reason why I as one of the Pummel gang was offered a job even if I never worked before. Also, I bet that was also the reason why Olivier got the job at the barn so smoothly just because she was able to sympathize with the animals.
"They... don't laugh at that kid...?" I asked more questions.
"At first, yes. But for knights, the weapons speak way louder..." Azriel answered. "That kid chief beat everyone in the barracks."
Again, I shook my head in disbelief. That was something that so rarely happened on the mainland. What I knew was you would get a job if you were still young, academically outstanding, or if you got a recommendation from the company. Still, I found something amiss.
"How do you know so much about..."
I stopped talking as I saw Azriel's body turn invisible. The same white hair and lethargic eyes... that kid... was Azriel.
"Don't look at me," Azriel whispered. "People will think that you're insane by talking on your own."
I fixed my posture. Feeling satisfied, I returned to the palace with Azriel. Leaving the barracks I could see his body turned visible again.
"It would be a lot simpler if you just told me that you're the chief..." I sighed.
Azriel laughed.
"It's interesting, Charlonzi," Azriel commented. "I love seeing everyone's side eyes on judging the mini-me. It's just an entertainment for me."
"Well, I'm sorry if I'm your part of entertainment," I rolled my eyes. "So that's also the reason behind your willingness to take that potion with no argument..."
"Exactly," Azriel nodded slowly. "I knew that Mamoru or Jin would never hurt me. That's because I've been serving him since I was able to hold my own sword."
"You sound dirty..." I smirked.
"The only dirty here is your mind, Charlonzi..." Azriel sighed. "I suspect that you're after Storm's massive weapon of destruction..."
".... His weapon is massive?" Luna whispered.
"Dude, just see his big body. It will be ridiculous if he has a tiny eeny sword," Azriel discussed. "Well, not like I'm to talk. Even in the bath, I was so focused on enjoying the warm water. No time to compare sizes. So you better take a look at it by yourself."
I looked at Azriel who walked to the throne room, supposedly he was going to hang out with the king, curing his missing feelings for the king and queen. Meanwhile, here I was. Feeling destroyed and doubting my existence. I didn't know who I needed to talk to. Was it a normal thing to be curious about someone's sword?
My work time was completely ruined just because I couldn't keep my cool head. I admitted my mind to Reanne and Yummi. Yummi looked embarrassed while fortunately, Reanne responded logically. She said that it was normal for me to be curious about someone's sword size.
"Well, if you are lucky, you could see that thing standing while he's sleeping, so you better be prepared..." Reanne made a suggestion.
I would like to say thanks to her but... it was a bit weird for this case.
I felt excited as the sleeping time came. I tried to explain my situation to Elise and Kaoru. Kaoru looked excited and a bit embarrassed. Meanwhile, Elise radiated a different response. At first, she rejected my idea because she wanted her eyes to see only her partner's sword. After numerous attempts to make her follow us, finally she joined our dirty cart.
"You should see one before your partner's, Elise... That way you could compare."
Yes, that was one statement that made Elise join our dirtyhood.
Everyone else was already sleeping. Only me, Elise, and Kaoru still staying up and waiting for the moment of truth. Unfortunately, the plan didn't come according to our hope as Storm faced the wall while sleeping.
"What a bummer..." Kaoru sulked, lying down on her bed and closing her eyes. "Wake me up if you see something."
Well... maybe I wasn't fated to see something that I shouldn't have. I sighed and lay on my bed too, following Kaoru. Elise didn't have a chance to lie down as her bed was located in the corner so she took her time to go back to her bed. Reaching her bed, Elise decided to brush her hair first before sleeping.... facing the turning Storm, revealing a such fine colossal rocket in the middle of a sleeping body, sparkling and aiming at the vast and heavenly sky.
The next morning, we could see Elise get panda eyes for the first time.
