Ch 39: Decision

After that, we didn't see Mamoru until the dinner came.

We thought that we were going to have dinner in a proper dining room since the king and queen planning to join us. I had never been this wrong.

In fact, the king and queen were indeed joining us in our dinner... but it was in our bedroom. There weren't enough chairs for us to sit but Jemi and Azriel kinda gave their chairs for the loyalty.

Jemi just didn't care about eating on a dining table and Azriel thought that it was the right thing to do.

As the king and queen seated, the food started rolling in. Storm was elated with the massive amount of food yet the foodie Olivier didn't seem to be that excited.

"I wonder if the chef's cooking is good..." Ludwig whispered to Reanne who sat beside him.

"What's with that?" Reanne replied warmly.

"I don't know. Maybe I just want to get better at cooking..." Ludwig scouted the foods as the helpers served them. "Nothing here looks that fancy, right?"

"Well, if it's fancy you are talking about, the foods on the mainland are fancier. They have better utensils..." Reanne said honestly.

"How about the taste?" asked Ludwig again.

"We shall try and judge, Ludwig..." Reanne shrugged. "You better look at Olivier's expression. She's kinda funny..."

As I could overhear the conversation, I, Reanne, and Ludwig diverted our sight to the shortie. Our beloved shortie looked sour while sitting quietly.

"What's happened, Olivier...?" Kaoru whispered because our sight caught her attention. "You don't feel good?"

"Nah..." claimed Olivier.

"Then?" Kaoru added.

Olivier didn't bother herself with answering Kaoru's other question. She left the room and talked to one of the helpers, a small discussion then the helper nodded.

"What's she doing?" I asked Reanne.

"I'm not her mother. Try asking her..." Reanne shrugged.

Olivier came a second later, carrying the food. As she approached closer, the others were following her and assisting the other helpers too. It wasn't like we were out of servers, but the servers looked hesitant to serve the new people. Thanks to our actions, the dinner took no time to get served. Now the food was ready, Cowie gang was seated nicely on their own chairs.

Olivier finally regained her smile back.

"...You must be really hungry..." I whispered after seeing her broad smile.

"I am..." she responded while smiling ear to ear.

The room brightened up as the king allowed us to eat. This whole fanciness and the only ones who were eating fancily were Kyo, Aura, and Elise. I didn't need to mention the princes, of course. Well, to be frank, everyone was still eating politely, but we could clearly see who ate politely and hungrily.... I meant more hungrily.

As I munched my sandwich, I was interested in the king and queen's interaction. Rather than a special place to eat, they didn't hesitate to eat with us. The queen looked nothing like Jin and Mamoru. In fact, I had a clear vision that the king inherited all of his appearance from the boys: the golden hair and kinda bright blue eyes. Their mother, however, looked pretty majestic with her long black hair and eyes. If I could compare, she looked like Mama Charlonzi.

Oh, and one more thing. I didn't know that a husband, who got married to his wife for years, could still see and watch his wife with his loving eyes.

"Your dad always like that?" I managed my whisper to be hearable to the people across my table.

"What?" Jin asked.

"He was in love with your mom?" I adjusted my question.

"That's not really right, though..." Jin answered.

"Uh, so am I wrong?"

Jin gulped his milk before answering.

"He is STILL in love and going to be still in love in the afterlife, I guess..." Jin sighed. "Seeing them all lovey-dovey is a sore in my eyes."

"But you're happy..." I concluded.

"The sore is a sore of happiness," Jin nodded. "After all, he is not a bad father and so is my mom. As long as they are happy, which is being together, I couldn't ask for more."

The Two Pines Inn at dining time was way louder than this bedroom dinner. Sure the utensils were fighting against each other, claiming a lively situation, yet some of us probably behaved themselves because of the existence of royalty. A silent night, but still warm.

"Well, I probably didn't welcome you guys nice enough earlier. So I hope I can make up my mistake by offering this dinner..." the king started talking. "Please let me know if you want another portion..."

The Cowies looked at Cowie's shortie in unison. The shortie sparkled her eyes and brought her bowl to one of the servers. I guessed she asked for another soup.

"She's at home already..." Koko whispered at Ixora after poking her arm.

"Isn't it good?" Ixora smiled with joy. "Jin's home finally is Olivier's home."

Koko nodded, took his girlfriend's side, and chewed his fish.

"Well, the thing is..."

The audience paid full attention to the king.

"I'm not a perfect king. The happiness that exists in this kingdom isn't perfect either. Some sides should aim for our weakness or fault to make us disappear and since my children haven't fixed their mind on the king title yet, I can't pass on this kingdom voluntarily."

"How old were you on this day?" Storm left his bed to whisper to Jin.

"Hmm... Let me see..." Jin answered right ahead. No bother on thinking.

"We were still in our teenage years..." Mamoru made a clear straight line. "We were older for a few years than the Cole over there."

Cole, who listened, put his hand out as a gesture.

"Dude! Kings are made in their teenage years, right?!" Storm still questioned his mind. "You could take the throne, Mamoru!"

"Well, the truth is...."

Mamoru couldn't have his chance to talk as the door was knocked politely. With the king's order, two servers opened the door with two golden-haired boys standing behind them. As we already guessed, those were the Burningshield brothers, but younger. Cowie girls, like Yummi, Elise, and Ixora looked kinda ecstatic upon seeing the cute boys with good manners.

"What's the matter, Mamoru, Jin?" the queen responded on the boys' appearance.

"We come for father's order, Mom," young Mamoru replied. "About the next king."

"Oh, what a moment. Please come inside," King Burningshield looked startled but still managed a composure.

The Cowie stopped eating. Our eyes silently judged young Mamoru and Jin yet it was tense. We shouldn't laugh at this very moment just because Jin still wore the white robe he usually wore even at this age. Whatever the young Jin did, he looked like he was farming with all of the tiny twigs and dirt on his robe and hair. He looked like a farmer more than a prince.

"Well, so you have decided to take the kingdom, Mamoru?" the king asked his first son.

"No, Father," Mamoru replied. "I'm here because I offer a better solution."

"What kind?"

"Please let Jin take the kingdom," Mamoru answered.

The Cowie diverted their sight to invisible Jin. Jin sighed as his real identity was leaked. It was like he saw this years ago... and he indeed did.

"And why with that?" the king asked further.

"Don't you think that Jin has more leadership traits, dear father?" Mamoru smiled and burrowed his dimples deeply. "He is strong and communicative; also has a good amount of knowledge. I may be older and I may be more suitable for the title since I'm the first child. But, I don't have the traits that Jin possessed."

"What is that?" the king looked chill on listening to his son's comment. "Don't the king title radiate your well-being?"

"I apologize beforehand but unfortunately I'm in love with the wide world of books, dear Father," young Mamoru bowed to express his sorry... which I didn't believe he felt true. "I might be more proper to stay as Jin's right hand or anything but a leader."

Now, Storm scooted to the invisible Mamoru who was eating very peacefully.

"I can't believe you, Mamoru..." Storm whispered.

"They might see you as a weirdo talking on your own..." Mamoru laughed. Storm behaved himself after listening to Mamoru's warning.

"But... Jin didn't take it, right? If you took it, then there must be someone that was arranged to be your wife right?" Kaoru seemed puzzled. "You didn't take it, right, Jin?"

Jin didn't answer. He left the fork he used seconds ago to stab on some greens. As he felt uneasy, he tried to peek at Olivier's expression.

She was still eating.

"Do you agree with your brother's arrangement, Jin?" the king asked young Jin's opinion.

"Yes, dear Father."

Young Jin's answer stopped the time. We absolutely didn't know a thing about Jin, especially me. I thought that my Cowie friends knew about this answer but I was so wrong. Jin maybe didn't have an ex-girlfriend... but who knows that he had an ex-wife?

Reanne tried to see Olivier's eyes below her bangs as she was worried about Olivier's trauma. The worrying girl was still eating, but even slower.
