Ch 18: Mawar is coming
"Olivier, you don't have to go if you don't want to go, okay?"
"Oki."
"Don't listen to her bullshit. It only drains your energy and sanity."
"Oki."
"Scream if it's needed. Don't swallow everything."
"Oki."
"Once more oki and I will pull your cheeks."
"Reanne already told me the same thing but it was nicer so I didn't take you seriously."
"WHATT???!! HOW DARE YOU??!!"
I witnessed Kaoru unleash her rage by pulling Olivier's cheeks just because Olivier told honesty. We laughed because we did get worried about Olivier's well-being if Mawar had reached Cowie Island.
"I'm sowwy..." Olivier apologized with her slanted mouth.
"You should be sorry!" Kaoru still pulled Olivier's cheeks. "You should be sorry, Amarantheace!"
"But Reanne was nicer..." Olivier defended.
"WHOA! YOU COULD TALK SOME MORE??!" Kaoru's rage was back. We couldn't help but laugh at their silliness, again. But that wasn't for long.
"Stop it, Kaoru..." Reanne tried to stop the dumb fight. "Or else you could pull her cheeks apart."
"She deserved it," Kaoru pulled her tongue while stopping her rage towards Olivier. "How could she didn't take me seriously."
Right after I and Jemi got the information from Lance that Mawar's coming, we didn't waste even a single second to tell everyone. I got frustrated because it was midnight and I really didn't want to bother anyone's sleeping. But, luckily, the Cowies had this habit of waking on the worst scenario; knowing that they lived on a small island that could be hit by natural disasters.
So, the news was spread in an instant and here we were united in my house.
Kaoru seemed frustrated, even more frustrated than Olivier who quietly sat on the floor with her head on the table. Others seemed to be pretty tense too, judging from the non-existent conversation in the room. I saw how Jin reacted, and he got this kind of creepy face. Almost the same face as Aura's and Elise's face when they encountered me and Lance.
"So where will she stay?" asked Elise. "At this house?"
"I can't say that for sure, but that's a possibility..." I hesitated. "Well, she hates me, right? So, I don't think she will think highly of my house."
The silence reeked in. Even the loud boys were suddenly all silent. It seemed like the happiness they just felt vanished at that very moment. The only happy person present in this mini-meeting was Lance.
"She would be very likely to ask to stay at a mountain hut with Lance," Ludwig commented. "She hates Luna, she hates me, she hates Reanne, so there will be no place for her to stay at the farmhouse, the Two Pines, or the clinic.
"Clinic isn't the place to stay, you know..." Kaoru explained.
"She can stay if I'm allowed to break her bone one or two..." Aura was back with her dark –almost serious joke, again.
"No, please..." Reanne sighed. "Being a professional doctor means I need to treat all patients equally, but please..."
Aura giggled. She walked to the corner where I put the small flower from Olivier.
"The Two Pines isn't the place to stay too..." Ludwig proudly uttered. "As a professional, I should be neutral and present the best service but please..."
"You don't sound like a professional at all," Cole facepalmed.
"Talk as you want," Ludwig shrugged. "It's my place, it's my rule. Or just make her stay at the Happy Cows."
Cole laughed out loud, the loudest I'd ever heard.
"She could stay, but at the cow pen, okay?" Yummi tried to be considerate but evil at the same time. "We got the corner full of hays and poops."
"Make her stay at the fish area?" Ludwig offered an alternative.
"You better go back to the kitchen and cook, Ludwig..." Koko was looking clearly annoyed. "If she ever stays at my fish area, I'll send her to the ocean at midnight. I don't care if it needs to be done with the biggest boat I have."
Ludwig hid his laugh while looking silly at Reanne.
The room was lively again just to discuss Mawar's staying. Honestly, they weren't really welcoming towards Mawar and it really showed. They treated Mawar as if Mawar had done something incredibly shattered and decayed.
"Why do you guys hate Mawar so much?"
We looked at Lance who asked us that one silly question –a gaze of disbelief.
"When we play a game, we have to choose the status for our character, right? This Mawar has her character built with minus kindness and 123,137 points of pure demon," Jemi volunteered in answering. "The status even has 10 at max."
"If we need to change her to something better, we would run out of holy water in this world to purify her," Koko expressed his disgust.
Lance seemed disappointed with the ambiguous answers.
"That's no reason to treat her badly," he commented. "You're being too judgmental here."
Again, we could only let out a gaze of disbelief to Lance.
"Then, tell us one reason why we shouldn't hate Mawar," Jin compelled.
"She paid for my education!" answered Lance.
Jemi, the only one whom I told about Lance's education, tried to fight back. Luckily, I noticed his movement, and I asked him to keep it a secret.
Jemi sighed.
"What a dumb response. I'm disappointed," Aura moved from her spot. "Hey, kid. Go to my place if you want to sleep, okay?"
Olivier nodded. "Thank you."
"Where'd you want to go?" Storm who stayed on the door got evicted by Aura.
"Anywhere but here," Aura put on her oversized hoodie to hide her from the hot sun. "I'm allergic to stupidity."
We couldn't stop Aura as she was adamant about her way. If I could, I would go and follow Aura. Yet, since it was dealing with me and my 'sister', I needed to go through the meeting until the end.
"I don't want to brag but I built a small house on the eastern side," Azriel broke the silence. "It's smaller than the usual house, but I guess it's cozy enough to be called a house. After all, I want Storm to take the house if he ever makes the round to the village's eastern side."
"YOU MADE A HOUSE FOR ME??" Storm was touched.
"Yes," Azriel answered. "It was originally Olivier's or Jin's house. But both of them rejected because for whatever reason."
"I could stay at the hut... that was my answer," Olivier raised her hand.
"You don't have the hut or the farmhouse anymore, Olivier," Reanne concluded. "I know that you're uncomfortable staying at the clinic if you're feeling healthy, and you can't save enough money to pay for the Two Pines bills. So, please take the house this time, okay?"
Olivier looked around with her doe eyes, confused but grateful, and hesitated at the same time. The audience nodded and smiled, demanding Olivier to take the house.
"Can I...?" Olivier hesitated.
"It was originally your house," Kyo finally opened his mouth. "We made that house in the hope you will be back."
This time, Olivier diverted her gaze to Reanne. As if she was scared to accept such kindness. Reanne smiled and assured her that everything would be okay.
"Alright, it's decided," Azriel stood up. "I'll throw some beds for you. What do you want?"
"A futon please," Olivier followed Azriel.
"... That's not a bed, you know..."
"It's okay I like futons..." Olivier grinned.
"A lot of blankets please, Azriel..." Reanne warned Azriel about Olivier's habit.
"Gotchu," responded Azriel.
"Oh, oh!" Storm panicked. "Let me help you to gather your stuff."
"That would be helpful, thanks," Azriel accepted the kindness.
Azriel, Olivier, and Storm disappeared to Azriel's workshop and left us in another awkward silence with Lance. It was still a mystery to me that other friends didn't even bother to quit the meeting. It seemed like they were so ready to slap Lance's back to his conscience.
"You don't go, Reanne?" I whispered.
"No," Reanne smiled softly. "Why would I?"
"Why would you not?" I asked.
"She almost took one of my 'family' away. I need to make sure that I do my best."
I forgot that I lived in one big monolith.
