Ch 15: An awkward gathering
"I don't know why are you being this insane for this whole day."
I picked my nose up, unbothered.
"I'm talking to you, Charlonzi."
"Yeah yeah, you talked as if I'm not listening to you."
"That's because you didn't even understand and care about what I've been talking about!"
It was night, and I just heard from Cole that the boys were going to gather on the Two Pines tonight. I wouldn't want to miss this chat to iron Lance's wrinkled mind. His mind even was more wrinkled than the sheets we used to wash in the orphanage.
"Do you even try to listen and do what I want?"
Lance frosted because he couldn't turn my words back. I let him take his sweet time to think and judge for whatever he had done for me and the others on the island. Wouldn't he be able to think straight about all of this?
"Alright," Lance sighed. "I will go just this one time. You follow me and if I still think that it will be a waste of time, then I won't go ever again."
I smiled from ear to ear.
We went down from the mountain to join the boys' night out. I could see that Lance had been doing his job properly as he was still meeting some difficulties on the mountain road – he stumbled for some time.
"It's not even dark..." I facepalmed.
"Can you blame me if I feel that my safety is at stake here?" annoyed Lance. "You're seriously annoying."
I threw my flashlight to him to use. I guess I should stop being annoying for tonight or else Lance would abort his intention to meet with the guys.
"Use that and follow me," I passed Lance and made him come after me.
"How can you be this familiar with mountain roads?" he asked.
"I don't know?" I replied. "For starters, I listened to Storm's suggestion, also I picked the route that Olivier mentioned..."
"We have a different route?"
"No," I added. "I meant on the steps. Like if it's possible, try to avoid the lumps... the mud... and the grass. Step on the stones she pathed on the road. They're not shaped well but sturdy enough as the stepping."
That's when I heard that Lance just drowned his foot. He was shaken and speechless.
"I... should listen more..." he whispered.
"You should," I smiled while helping him throwing his misfortune.
We stopped at the lake to wash Lance's foot. The lake water was icy cold and he couldn't complain more to cover his own doing. As I tried to clean his foot, I saw the water circles coming from different sides. Someone was at the lake at this hour.
"I tried to clean my body and you guys tried to clean your shoes..." a familiar voice on the side talked to me and Lance. "First time here? I'm lucky that I didn't bathe at the same time you washed the shoes."
We could notice Jin drying his hair on the side lake. He looked rather refreshed from the water.
"Bath? At this hour? On the lake?" I rained Jin with questions.
"Yes, yes, yes," answered Jin nonchalantly.
It was rather awkward because Jin hadn't talked to Lance even once and I could engage in casual conversation just because Jin was my fairy patient.
"Okay, I'll be going first," Jin excused himself.
"You go to the boys?" I asked him the last question, to which Jin replied with a short wave.
I didn't mind each person's habit even if it was so weird and rare and could be put into the museum, but I guess Lance thought differently.
"He's kinda weird..." commented Lance.
"Everyone is..." I responded with ease. "Weirdness shows coziness."
Lance curled his eyebrows in confusion but I didn't want to elaborate further. let's just make him experience everything he could.
We left the lake as soon as we finished cleaning Lance's feet and shoes.
The Two Pines was full with the boys even if the 'close' sign was hung on the door. As we approached closer, Lance made his walk even slower. I needed to drag him like a child on their first day of school.
"What's with this sudden hand-holding?" Cole greeted us in such a friendly way. He was having a chat with Ludwig on the counter, a thing that he may enjoy sometimes.
"This princess won't come if I don't drag him here," I responded.
"Oh? Welcome to the Two Pines, dear princess and the knight in shining armor," Ludwig tried to be friendly.
Lance didn't say anything, so we decided to sit at the big table --the table in the middle used for small gatherings or meetings.
"Whoa, a new face!" Storm approached Lance with a high-five. "Hellooo, dudeee!"
Lance responded with an awkward high-five.
I let out a small smile. Whoever saw his actions could instantly conclude that he wasn't into it. Meanwhile, Storm's not bothered by it, at least, Lance tried to socialize and that alone, I appreciated. I looked around and saw that Jin had already fixed on the chair next to Cole. I guess he was pretty mild on learning love from Cole.
Everyone was here and this small gathering didn't even get started yet, I guess.
"So how's the city?" Koko with his one big portion of red spicy ramen approached us cautiously. He seemed to dislike his ramen soup to get spilled even a bit.
"Fine, I guess..." replied Lance after I 'senggol' his arm.
"Meet some good girls there?" Koko now proceeded to blow his hot ramen and eat while asking.
"Yes..." Lance hesitated.
"Dude, you have a girlfriend," Ludwig scolded from the side, serving some tea for a drink. "Show some respect."
"I do respect my girlfriend. That's why I'm staying at Cowie," Koko stared at Ludwig.
"You're not being too convinced..." Ludwig doubted Koko's stare. "Well, whatever floats your boat, Koko."
"Sure," Koko chewed on his ramen. "I and Gole habe the best relatonshib here."
"Swallow your thing, dude," Cole who silently listened to the conversation, seemed to have the urge to fix Koko's eating habit.
"I'm sorry..." Koko apologized and continued eating.
"But what Koko just said earlier was true, though..." Kyo stepped in this time. "None of us have a better relationship than them."
Cole chuckled while the room was all silent. They couldn't face the mighty Cole, after all.
"Can you please give me a girl to love?" Storm begged with his pleading eyes.
"I'm not God, duh..." Cole facepalmed. "You will find that lucky girl if you believe."
"Yes, meeting the right girl later is better than meeting the right girl soon if it's going to be like Ludwig's case..." Jemi who joined with an extra chair seemed rather sharp tonight.
"Do I need to be involved in that idiotic sentence...?" Ludwig rolled his eyes.
"He's right, you know," Storm stated his right mind. "And actually now I feel more at ease, thanks Jem."
Jemi clicked his fingers in response.
"Well at least I have someone to love, not like you, Jemi," Ludwig still couldn't accept the humility Jemi caused. Jemi just did another shrug; he didn't let the sentence bother him that much.
I guess the usual boys' night out would be like this kind of sensation? That was what I'd been wondering while keeping everyone in sight. They talked nonsense, and somehow focused on an entirely different topic and absorbed in it.
"Let's just talk about how Olivier couldn't see that Jin has been trying," Ludwig tried to divert the attention from him.
"Reanne didn't care about you too," Jin replied.
"HWHAHAHHHWHAHAHAHAH SERVE YOU RIGHT, LUDWIG!!" Storm literally laughed at Ludwig's face. "Serve you freaking right!"
"If you had one dollar for every spit you threw, you'd be a millionaire..." annoyed Ludwig was so annoyed. Storm, on the other hand, kept talking on his face.
I couldn't help but smile at them. The warmth, the cute bickering, it felt like this little fight existed between siblings, yet no. They were never tied with any blood relationship.
I looked at Lance, who still glued his mouth tight.
