Chapter 2

[Quest delivering supplies to Danem city soldiers.]

[Quest success reward: Relationship with Major Glav increases by 10 for every 10 surviving soldiers. Job changes depending on the success level of the quest.

Quest failure penalty: Major Glav will never give you another quest. Relationship with Major Glav becomes 0. Danem city population will decrease. The number of residents who will decrease due to failed quests will increase every 1 hour]

Kin paid close attention to the contents of this quest. He focused on the prize from the quest, Job changes. Finally, I can change jobs. But why, depending on the success level of the quest?

Kin feels confused and it shows in his face. So Kin looked again at the contents of the quest and was stunned by the penalty for failing the quest.

For Major Glav not to give another quest and the relationship is not good, I can understand. But what is this quest relationship with the townspeople? And why is the delay of finishing this quest resulting in decreasing the population of this town?

Kin shook his head to ignore the confusion. And he only focused on the prize he could get. Changing jobs is the only thing that he focuses on.

"Okay Major Glav, I will help deliver the supplies." Kin answered enthusiastically, not like how he behaved normally.

Kin immediately ran towards the supply box and tried to lift the box. The box went up but then he saw 4 other boxes and wasn't sure he could quickly deliver these supplies within 1 hour.

Not as easy as I thought.

Kin then looked at the contents of the warehouse and saw that there was a cart that seemed to be enough to carry 5 boxes of supplies at the same time. He tried to ask Mayor Glav carefully. "Ma... Major Glav, ..." But he never finishes his sentence. It looks like his introverted comeback. He can only point his finger to the cart but no word can come out from his mouth.

It looks like Mayor Glav understood what Kin means. "Use whatever you need."

Awkwardly Kin answers. "Thanks, Major."

Kin then took the cart and placed it at the exit of the barracks. One by one the boxes of supplies were loaded onto the cart. In less than 5 minutes all the boxes of supplies were on the cart. Kin then checked again the balance of the cart. He made sure that the box being transported would not fall and be damaged. After he was sure it was safe, he pushed his cart and stopped by to pick up his sack of apples for Fakiha's quest. After that, he pushed his cart and left the barrack.

I will deliver this apple to Fakiha first before heading to the west gate of Danem city. Kin started pushing the cart towards Fakiha's shop under the light of the sun which was getting dimmer and the moonlight which was starting to illuminate the city.

While he pushed his cart toward the west gate, Kin passed Fakiha's fruit shop, and put down Fakiha's sack of apples while shouting at Fakiha.,"Fakiha, here is your apple." And a notification pops out.

[Quest collecting apples completed.]

[You gain relationship with Fakiha +1, 500 experience, 1 gold.

Relationship reward with Fakiha + 1 failed because the relationship with Fakiha has reached the maximum.]

"Thank you Kin. Here's an apple for you. Cheer up Kin." Fakiha shouts to Kin while throwing an apple at him who has already passed her shop. Kin caught the apple and put it in his pocket. Fakiha continued to watch Kin with a worried look, until Kin made a turn and Fakiha couldn't see him again under the moonlight.

Kin is still pushing his cart as fast as he can toward the west gate. His mind is still thinking about what the quest means. A lot of questions are running in his mind but he can't find the answer only from his quest notification.

What is this quest? How can I complete this quest in 1 hour? Is population reduction completely inevitable? At this speed it will take more than 2 hours to reach the west gate of the city. Hopefully it can still be faster.

Before he could settle the chaos, the panic struck a notification popped out.

[1 hour has passed since you accepted the quest. Some soldiers of Danem city have been injured]

No! What happens?! Kin panicked and pushed the cart harder. The cart didn't move as fast as he expected. He started desperate and not sure if could make it in time.

If only his status point is distributed like a warrior or soldier, this quest can be completed within 1 hour. But Kin status points were spread evenly throughout all statuses and did not focus on status STR, AGI and VIT so this quest cannot be done in 1 hour. Moreover, as a result of Kin completing the quest from Fakiha first, the time required to complete the quest becomes longer.

Kin was finally able to see the west gate of Danem City. In front of the gate stood a tall, bulky but lean soldier with a sharp chin and sharp nose. His arm muscles make him look tough and it matches his white-brown skin. This soldier named Clark is very well known to Kin because he is one of the gate guard soldiers who often talks to Kin when he is standing in front of the gate.

Clark ran to Kin. "Kin! It turns out you are the one who brought the supply box. Come quickly, the soldiers are in critical condition right now."

Just as Kin is about to give his cart to Clark, 2 notifications pop out simultaneously.

[2 hours have passed since you accepted the quest. Some soldiers of Danem city were seriously injured and most of the soldiers were injured.]

[Quest delivering supplies to Danem city soldiers part 1 has been completed.]

As Clark took over the cart he said. "Help me deliver all these supplies to the Darewof cave. The other soldiers need items in this supply box."

Another notification pops out in front of Kin.

[Quest delivering supplies to Danem city soldiers part 2 has begun.]

[You have met Clark, one of the members of Glav mayor's soldier. Help Clark deliver the supplies to the Darewof cave. Find out the condition of the soldiers in there. Check the contents and condition of the supplies. The time you deliver the supplies will affect the number of injured soldiers.]

"Clark, I'll push the cart from behind." Kin, who was still confused, just ran with Clark. Maybe it was more like he was being dragged by Clark because his hand could not let go of the cart.

Clark then directed the cart into the forest. As they got deeper into the forest, they suddenly heard the sound of tree branches snapping. From inside the forest around them, they can hear some screams. After hearing screams then there are five lights like explosions which indicate that some player died and returned to the place where he was respawned.

Kin started to panic and a lot of things were going on inside his head. What happened? Why do those players scream and die? What monster attacked them? And why did Clark take me running towards that scream?!

cannot hold back his question inside his head anymore and in the end, he asked Clark. "Clark, what happened? Did they die?"

Clark answered Kin while still pulling the cart "Yes they died. They were attacked by wolves."

"It's just a wolf. Isn't it common for wolves to be around here?"

Kin can hear a tension from Clark's voice. "Not for this wolves. This wolf is bigger than the wolves that are generally around here. The information I received was that this wolf was from Darewof cave."

"Aren't soldiers from Danem City guarding the cave?"

Some tension threaded his voice " But the cave has too many exits, and some wolves slipped through into the forest."

"Hopefully it doesn't get worse." Kin then glanced at the supply boxes. "So that's why these items are important?"

"Correct. This supply box contains food, drink, medicine, armor, weapons and magic scrolls. And these items will help us hold back the wolves."

Kin realized how high the difficulty level of this quest was. He started checking the supply boxes one by one. The condition of food, drink, medicine, some armor, and some weapons. They are still in good condition. In one corner of the supply box, Kin can see there is a fire bomb magic scroll.

[Fire bomb magic scroll.]

[This scroll has the power of fire bomb magic. Firebomb magic is high level magic. This magic compresses and condenses the power of fire into the form of a small fireball which will explode when it comes into contact with an object. The explosive power of this fireball is very big. To use it, you need to open this scroll and direct it to the intended location.]

Worries can be seen on Kin's face after he read the scroll description. "Clark, what monster are we dealing with? Why need this high level magic scroll?"

"I don't know either. While the team that was going to check into the cave was still getting ready, I went back to the city to get this box of supplies. We should hope that the conditions are still fine. Soon we will arrive at the camp where the soldiers are."

It looks like this game doesn't want to make this quest easy. After Clark told him they were near, some wolves howling could be heard coming from the forest. The sound of bushes and running animals could be heard approaching Kin and Clark's cart too. Kin and Clark pushed the supply cart as fast as they could. Kin began to see a big wolf far behind them. In front of them, the sound of wolf cries began to be heard, mixed with some sound of weapons swinging, as well as the sound of hard objects colliding with something. Kin began to be able to see from afar the exhausted soldiers fighting some big wolf.

Then Kin and Clark shouted at the same time. "We're carrying supplies!"

Some soldiers looked at Kin and Clark. One of the soldiers pointed behind them in panic, Kin and Clark looked back and saw a big wolf getting closer. Suddenly Clark stopped and pulled out his sword.

Clark shouted at Kin. "Keep the cart going! I will hold this wolf."

Kin continued to push the supply cart towards the soldiers. Then Kin can hear the sound of a sword hitting something behind him. And some soldiers became more visible and one of the soldiers named Guarda ran towards Kin. Shortly before Guarda managed to help Kin, another wolf appeared from the forest and attacked the right side of the cart. Guarda ran past Kin and instinctively took out a shield to block the wolf's claw.

Within a few seconds, an arrow flew towards Kin. He immediately ducked to avoid it. And suddenly there was a scream from a big wolf that was being held by Clark. Kin saw the soldier who shot the arrow earlier and he saw a woman. The name above for the woman is written Ai in bronze color, indicating she is a rare NPC.

Kin finally arrived in front of the NPC named Ai, and a notification appeared in front of him. A notification pops out in front of Kin.

[The quest to deliver supplies to Danem city soldiers part 2 has been completed.]

From behind Kin, Clark's sword was heard slashing against the big wolf. Kin turned around to see Clark let out a war cry and the big wolf that was chasing them stumbled and shattered into dust. After that, Clark ran towards another wolf who was being held back by Guarda with his shield.

Guarda stepped back a little to shake the wolf's balance then tried to cut the wolf's head with his sword. The wolf managed to avoid it by jumping. Before it landed, Ai with her prediction, shot an arrow to the location where the wolf would land. It hit the wolf's leg. The wolf then lost its balance a little. At that moment, Clark quickly slashed the wolf's neck until it broke and the wolf shattered into dust.

A dying howl from the big wolf could be heard, Kin who just standing watching started shaking with fear. Kin rarely takes quests related to killing monsters so a dying howl from an animal and the sound of a fight scares him. Especially since the monster that just attacked him is bigger than him. His timid nature is one of the reasons why Kin rarely takes quests to kill monsters.

As the sounds of battle around the Darewof cave diminished, Kin forced himself to look beyond his fear. The ground was littered with wounded soldiers, their groans cutting through his haze of anxiety.

A sense of urgency stirred within Kin, pushing him towards Ai. She stood nearby, surveying the aftermath with a sure gaze. Her tall, slim figure was a study in composure, her black hair tied back, and a cloth mask concealing much of her face.

"I'm Kin," he stammered finally, drawing courage from necessity. "Major Glav sent me with supplies. Is there anything else I can do to help?"

Ai scanned the surroundings, her alertness was unwavering. Without meeting Kin's eyes, she instructed, "Distribute food, drink, and medicine to the soldiers. Then take the fire bomb magic scroll into the cave."

Hearing this, Kin's voice trembled, "I'm going... into the cave?"

A knot of fear tightened in his chest. The thought of venturing inside made his pulse race. What if I die? His dream of a job change felt like it was slipping away.

Before his fears could spiral further, a notification flashed before him.

[The quest to deliver supplies to the soldiers of Danem City part 3 has begun.]

[Danem city soldiers are injured from fighting monsters from Darewof cave. Captain Ai asks you to distribute existing supplies to the injured soldiers. Captain Ai also asks you to deliver the fire bomb magic scroll to the soldiers in the cave. Because the time required to complete the two first stages of the quest is 2 hours late, the condition of the soldiers is currently very critical, especially the soldiers who are in the cave. The more soldiers who were rescued, the higher the relationship with Major Glav and the soldiers will increase. Currently, 50 soldiers are alive with 15 seriously injured, 25 injured and 10 in good health.

Quest success conditions: Rescue a minimum of 30 soldiers and monsters in the Darewof cave can't get out.

Quest failure conditions: Less than 30 surviving soldiers or monsters in the Darewof cave successfully leave and attack the city of Danem or the quest recipient dies.

Quest success reward: Relationship with Major Glav and the soldiers of Danem City increases by 10 for every 10 surviving soldiers. Job changes depending on the success level of the quest.

Quest failure penalty: Major Glav will never give you another quest. Relationship with Major Glav becomes 0. Danem city population will decrease. The job change quest related to soldiers in Danem city is missing.]

After reading the contents of the quest, Kin panicked. Then he asked Ai quietly. "O Okay I will help... but what are the current conditions? How many soldiers entered the cave?"

Ai exhaled, fatigue etching her features. "Currently no other wolves are emerging from the cave other than some wolf that just attacked you. The number of soldiers outside was 30 people, 5 in good health, 15 injured and 10 seriously injured. Meanwhile, there are 20 soldiers in the cave and we don't know their condition."

Kin began to compare the conditions of the soldiers that Ai told him and the minimum conditions for success in his quest.

If I can save the soldiers outside then the minimum conditions for success can be obtained. But there is a possibility that a wolf could emerge from another cave door and kill the soldier waiting outside the cave. Especially if the soldiers in the cave die and the monster firm cave goes out and kills all the soldiers and then attacks the city. Or I can use the 'fire bomb' scroll to close the passageways in the cave. But will all the ways in and out of the cave be closed?

His mind reeled with memories of Carnice, Fakiha, Clark, and other NPCs. They had been his steady companions, their quests keeping him engaged for three years. They only had one life. If these soldiers died, they would be gone forever. Could I accept that?

Why does changing jobs have to be this complicated? His thoughts spiraled until another notification pulled him back.

[Currently, 50 soldiers are alive with 16 seriously injured, 25 injured and 9 in good condition]

His heart sank further as he realized that a soldier in the cave had worsened, another critical thread in a fraying line.
