The Trial
The very next day was Dora's trial and execution. Ariette could not sleep at night at all , because she was busy thinking about how to save Dora and how to escape from the prison cell. But all her plans seemed to be in vain and they looked stupid when she revised them. At last, Ariette was forced to give up and left all hopes of saving Dora. She decided that she would ask the guards if she could see Dora for one last time before her execution. Then she would return to Earth, and never dream of coming back again.
The next morning, a tired and hopeless Ariette asked one of the guards if she could see Dora. The guards allowed her and she entered Dora's cell. The effects of the flowers had worn off long ago. When Dora saw who had come, she jumped threw her arms around her. She said with tears in her eyes," Miss Ariette , it may be never again!" Fortunately, none of the guards were nearby.
In a few hours, Dora's trial was held. Ariette was kept in the prison under heavy supervision. She kept on struggling with the guards who held her by her arms. She was kicking furiously. She said," Please let me go to the trial! You have got the wrong person! She is innocent. I have to tell the truth to the King and Queen." But the guards were not going to listen. They laughed at her and said," Child, you shall be back at home to your Mama and Papa just as the witch is executed!"
At last Ariette managed to break free from the guards. She rushed towards the hall. She became breathless from running, but she could not stop. Finally after running for a long time, Ariette reached the hall. The King and Queen sat in the centre, and Dora was going to be beheaded. Ariette pushed through the crowd and came closer to Dora. Dora looked at Ariette and told her bye with the movement of her lips. She asked her to return home and forgive her for not trusting Ariette the first time they met. All this made Ariette very sad indeed, but she did not care, and shouted out to the King," Your Majesty, I wanted to say that you have got the wrong person, and that Dora is innocent!" All heads turned towards Ariette. Her palms were sweating, her knees were shaking and her voice was trembling.
But the King showed no mercy and ordered the guards to take Ariette away. But it was the Queen who interfered. " Dearest Frank," said the Queen Helen," why don't we listen to what the girl has to say?" King Frank did not refuse. " Say ,child, what you want to say." said he.
Ariette began," Your Majesty, Dora is innocent. It was her brother, Allen, who opened the portal of hell. He blamed her and fled, and her parents , who could never see any wrong in him, believed him and termed her as the criminal. Allen fled from guilt. It is now our duty, to protect Narnia from the evil forces and to find Allen and punish him." Everything was silent for a while and nobody spoke. The King said," Who are you to assign duties for us?" Ariette replied," It wasn't me , Sire. It is Aslan's orders and He has asked me to protect Dora and Narnia from all harms."
At that very moment, the King said," Leave the child. What this girl says is true. She is Aslan's messenger, she is a true angel!" " You have opened our eyes dear!" said the Queen," how can we repay you!"
At a very surprising rate, the hall became empty. The King and the Queen continued to praise Ariette for sometime before they left. Ariette herself was thankful to the Queen. At last when the hall seemed quite empty, Ariette went to stand next to Dora. She touched Dora's head once from the back. She turned behind. Ariette patted her head once more and she replied," Miss Ariette, I love you!" Dora hugged Ariette and rubbed her head on her stomach. She looked up at her, half- smiling and half- crying.
Ariette was so immersed in Dora, that she failed to notice two cloaked figures standing some distance away from them. The man, whom she recognised to be Dora's father, said," How dare you interfere in our private matters , miss? It is between us and our daughter." "How on Earth do you call yourselves parents? What parents are those, who treat their daughter unfairly, and blame her for terrible crimes which she never committed?" asked Ariette angrily. She felt Dora tremble in her arms. The woman did not say anything but looked at them with her evil green eyes. Then they left.
Dora looked up at Ariette's face which was stained with tears . Her eyes looked tired from worrying. Dora said," Miss Ariette, are you sure you are feeling well?" Ariette nodded in reply. They walked , hand in hand. Slowly they exited the great Cair Paravel.
