The Night when It All Began
Once upon a time there lived a girl named Ariette. Ariette always dreamed to go to Narnia, not because she was not happy in her house, but because there was nobody to listen to her. Her parents who were the employees of a rich business man had to go to work early in the morning and returned very late at night. The only person to keep her company was the old Nanny, who was indeed very cranky and the only thing she ever did was to complain to the girl's parents about her, regarding how stupid she were and how shecaused problems for her. Ariette was thus truly very alone. Every night, Ariette used to go and sit by her bookshelf. It was her only refuge from the terrible lady. She believed that it was the gateway between Worlds and one day she would go to Narnia through it.
One day, Ariette woke up in the deadest hour of night , and driven by her instinct ,opened the doors of her bookshelf. She could strangely smell a sweet smell, like that of jasmine flowers. She quickly removed the book from behind which the smell seemed to come. Then suddenly, she felt herself being sucked into the shelf. Whether the bookshelf had become huge or whether she had become as small as a gnat, Ariette could not fathom.
She saw that in place of the book, there was a small opening. Ariette looked through it and saw moonlight flooding in . Ariette gazed at it in surprise. She stole a glance behind her and sighed with relief when she saw that no one was coming. She quietly slipped out through the opening which was big enough to fit in a teenager like her.
Outside was a beautiful sight waiting for her. There was a huge tree over her head. There was a stream flowing beside the shelf, just where she was standing, the stream was sparkling
in the moonlight. The moon was huge and there was soft green grass everywhere. The dew drops on them sparkled like diamonds in the moonlight. The sky was adorned with sparkling stars. Ariette stood there and watched the beautiful scene around her for a long time.
The place was quiet, except the rhythmic lapping of the water in the stream and the rippling waves . Ariette suddenly heard a noise which sounded like muffled sobs. Ariette tried to follow the sound and reached its source after walking for a few minutes. The crying seemed to come from a very young girl, around five to six years of age. She was sitting with her face buried in her knees.
Ariette put her hand on the girl's shoulder and gently shook her. ' Why are you crying?'asked she. The girl said ,' My parents have thrown me out of our house!' saying so, she continued to sob. ' How cruel,' thought Ariette,'to throw such a young girl out of her house. But she said aloud,'Tell me, why did your parents throw you out of your house? And by the way, what's your name? And do tell me what is this place?'
When the girl calmed down a bit,she said,' My name is Dora. And this is Narnia. In fact this place is called the Evening Moon,it is the gateway into Narnia for those who believe in Aslan truly and have faith in him.' The word 'faith' sent a chill down her spine. Her dream had at last come true! Aslan had mercied on her! 'Dora,'asked Ariette with excitement evident in her voice,'has the Queen Susan come to Narnia?' ' Yes,she has.' said Dora, still gasping for breath,'How?'asked Ariette,'By Death, just like her siblings did. She begged for forgiveness from the Great Lion and the Glorious One took her in,on one condition that she would never stop believing no matter what.' answered Dora. Ariette nodded. The greatness of Aslan was far greater than she ever imagined. 'Now tell me about yourself Dora.'said Ariette , changing the topic. The girl started sobbing again, but she started anyway and Ariette sat down beside the girl to listen.
