The Garden of Eternal Sleep
Ariette sat down beside Dora . Dora continued weeping, but she raised her head. Dora's face was stained with tears and her eyes were puffy and red from crying. Ariette put an arm around her shoulders. But Dora was not ready to believe in Ariette yet. She started to her feet and cried,' You are a girl! You are a human! You humans always make use of us Narnians and make us your slaves!' 'But the High King and his siblings are all humans right? Or they aren't?' replied Ariette. Dora was about to run when Ariette asked,' Do you have a place to stay, Dora?' Dora did not speak. Some tears spilled out of her eyes as she sat down on her knees in front of Ariette. Ariette patted the little girl on the head and said gently,' We shall go to the castle and ask the King Frank to provide you some place to stay. I won't ask you to be my acquaintance. But it is my duty to make sure that you find a place to stay.'
Dora could not help but say,' Thank you' to Ariette. She wanted to trust her but she couldn't, she wanted very much to believe in her as she was there when everybody abandoned her. Ariette took Dora by her hand and both started walking along the path. Soon they reached another place where there were trees and bushes growing on either side. There was a sweet smell of jasmine flowers. The smell was so strong that it made you feel drowsy. Ariette learned from Dora that this place was called The Garden of Eternal Sleep.
Dora rubbed her eyes and complained,' Oh I can't see anything properly, Miss Ariette.' Ariette did not say anything. They quickened their pace. But the smell was very strong and before long, Dora sat under a tree and closed her eyes. 'Oh Dora! You should not sleep! You will sleep forever if you fall asleep here.' Ariette cried. 'Nobody cares of I live or die. I would love to die while sleeping in this beautiful place.' Ariette shook her head,' We must go on, Dora. Climb up on my back and let us get out if this cursed Garden.'she said. Dora climbed upon Ariette's back and closed her eyes. Immediately a calm spread over her body and she did not try to keep her eyes open.
Ariette went on with Dora on her back. The smell made her feel sleepy and she would give anything to sit down and take rest. But she had a responsibility which she had volunteered to take.
Ariette began to jog. However it was impossible to run fast with a load on your back. Still Ariette covered big the path and before long, she could see the vague outline of Cair Paravel.
