What did Newton want Sheryl to do?

Sheryl's POV

I looked with widened eyes at him. What did he want me to do?

"What?"

"I want you to solve this.....I'm trying it for years but I still cannot solve it.....if you solve this....I will surely help you.."

"Yes, I will try my best to solve it...but don't forget you have to help me in return"

I went with the old book which he had given me to the room and hid it so that no one could see it. I then continued my work of cleaning the palace. I worked swiftly in order to finish the work on time.

I finished the work and was tired and saw at the huge clock. There were still five minutes left for an hour to complete.

I rushed back to my room and was about to solve it when I heard a voice.

"Sheryl..."I turned back to see who it was. I was shocked.

"Mom.....how are you? Where were you?....please mom, help me to get out of this place. Please!I was in tears.

"No Sheryl....this is your life. Now you have to accept it no matter what."I was shocked hearing this.

"No....I'll teach that queen a lesson which she'll never forget.....and I think you should go away because you are discouraging me"

"Don't do this....she is very dangerous and might kill you....If you want me to go then it's okay....I'm going"she left me.

I took that old book and saw it was divided into two sections. One of Science and the other Mathematics. The Science part had lots of law and derivations related to gravity, motion, etc. I was surprised seeing how intelligent he was. I opened the Maths part and found what he told me to solve.

It was a method used for solving polynomials. He tried finding the approximations of the roots of a real valued function using the same method but failed to do so. I took a look at the hundreds of graph papers he solved.

After some time, I noticed something. He guessed the starting point as x=1/2 where the derivative is 0. Therefore, the tangent didn't intersect the x-axis on the graph. I took the book and went to him. I explained to him, his mistake.

He was surprised and said,"What I couldn't do for years, you managed to solve in few minutes. I will surely help you with your plan of escaping. First I thought of keeping the method's name on my name but now as you have helped me, your name should also be included. What is your full name?"

"My name is Sheryl Raphson."

"Okay. So now my method's name will be Newton-Raphson method."

I was happy that I will be freed from here and even that now I have a method on my name.

Next day,

Suddenly there was chaos filled in the court which indicated that the king and queen are about to arrive. I moved aside to make way for them to move. All the courtiers bowed to them giving them respect. She reached front of me and I stood there without bowing.

"Oh....I think this one has forgot her manners....I think I have to teach her"

"There's no need for you to teach me.....Its better you teach yourself manners before teaching others"I said sharply and the whole court looked at me. The queen was fuming in anger.

"Queen...no need to waste your time here...it's your birthday today..."the king intervened. Saying this, they both moved forward.

"Yes, the witch's birthday!"I murmured and she stared back angrily at me.

I went back to my room because I didn't want to be a part of her party. I didn't like Queen Naagin nor did I like King Reuben.

Naagin's POV

I sat beside Reuben and I was extremely excited because he loves to give me surprises. I didn't show how excited I was. The advisor announced.

"Today is our great Queen's birthday. I hope she gets all what she wants."he finished his announcement when the court filled with voices.

"Long live Queen Naagin!!"

Just then Reuben got up and forwarded his hand gesturing me to dance with him. I happily kept my hand in his and stood up to dance.

He started singing. I kept my hand on his shoulders and he held my waist gently.

I found a love for me
Darling, just dive right in and follow my lead
Well, I found a girl, beautiful and sweet
Oh, I never knew you were the someone waiting for me

There was a smile on my face and I was lost in my thoughts. We swayed in the tune of the song as we danced.

When he said these lines I blushed and looked into his eyes and we kept gazing each other while dancing.

I whispered underneath my breath
But you heard it,
Darling, you look perfect tonight

He pulled me closer and the blush on my face increased as he turned me around. We both looked perfect tonight!

She shares my dreams, I hope that someday I'll share her home
I found a love to carry more than just my secrets
To carry love, to carry children of our own

We are still kids but we're so in love

I danced beautifully with him, my eyes still locked in his. He was right, the words he spoke was true!

He said it wrong. I didn't deserve him. He suddenly carried me and I was taken aback but still I loved this moment, it was so beautiful.

And the dance ended. I stood on my feet again but I didn't want this moment to end. I wanted to hold his hand and dance with him. Everyone started clapping but I ignored them and saw in Reuben's eyes. He looked in mine. He was coming closer and closer towards me. Suddenly, someone shouted which broke our reverie.

"Can't you see!"it was Joshua shouting at Sheryl because she had dropped something on his expensive robe. This Sheryl.... she will never stop causing trouble.

Sheryl's POV

I was carrying the different fruit juices in my hand but I wasn't walking carefully, I was busy looking at them. They had so much love for each other. I wish I too had someone for me who would save me from this hell. I was walking when I crashed into someone, spilling everything.

"Can't you see!"he shouted at me but I refrained from looking at him instead I kept my head low and shut my eyes.

"Slave...what have you done....you ruined my birthday...I won't leave you for doing this!"I opened my eyes and saw that the queen was going to slap me when king Reuben stopped her.

Tears were brimming in my eyes but I stopped them from spilling out. I finally looked upon whom I spilled the juice. To my horror, it was the king from the other kingdom whom I met previously. I thought he was nice but he too was like queen Naagin. I ran towards my room so that I could save myself from the insults.

Joshua's POV

I was enjoying the party. Suddenly, some slave came and dropped juice on me, ruining my robe. I was really angry and shouted at her. "Can't you see!"

She looked down and closed her eyes. I don't know why I felt like I had seen her before but where?

The Queen came over and shouted,"Slave...what have you done....you ruined my birthday...I won't leave you for doing this!" She opened her eyes. The queen was going to slap her but then Reuben came and stopped her.

She tried holding her tears back in her eyes. I felt sad seeing her like this. Why am I thinking so much about a slave? I guess I drank too much tonight.

Sheryl's POV

As soon as I entered my room I started crying. How dare she raise her hand to slap me? I have some self respect. I already bore so much torture for no fault of mine, but not any more. They will have to pay for their deeds. I won't spare them at any cost.

With this determination in me I wiped my tears and walked back to the party. My plan was ready. Let the fun begin!!

No one's POV

Sheryl took a tray containing few glasses of different drinks. As Reuben was feeling thirsty after dancing, he took the glass containing transparent liquid thinking it to be water. He drank it in one go. Apparently that glass contained vodka.

Reuben started losing his senses. He saw Naagin busy gossiping with her sister Ellie. As he wanted to dance he pulled Ellie's hand instead of Naagin's. He could see Naagin instead of Ellie and vice versa due to the effect of alcohol over him.

He started singing and dancing with Ellie leaving Naagin fuming in jealousy.

At the doorstep, of my heart.

You have stepped right inside.

Reuben held Ellie's hands and Ellie too danced with him. Being Naagin's sister she didn't think that Reuben was Naagin's husband and not hers.

Naagin came on the stage and pulled Reuben away from her sister. Reuben was wondering why Ellie pulled him away from his wife.

Sheryl was happy seeing her plan successful.

Joshua's POV

I saw that same slave who spilled juice on me smiling at something. Seeing that beautiful smile, I too smiled. I still think I saw her before. Instead of breaking my head wondering who she is, it's better I ask her.

I went towards her and asked. "Excuse me. I think we have met before. Who are you?"

She looked shocked seeing me. "You are a king and I'm just a slave. Why do you want to know me?" Anger took over me and I ordered her,"How dare you back answer the king. Just tell me who you are."

She looked frightened at me. I felt sorry for speaking to her that way. Nevertheless, she answered, "I am Sheryl, the black fairy. Few days back, by mistake I had entered your kingdom."

Shocked would be an understatement to tell what I felt right now. She's Sheryl. My Sheryl. What happened to her? How did she end up like this? I took a proper glance at her. Her long hair which used to reach till her knees, barely touched her shoulders. Her eyes lost the shine which it earlier had. Her beautiful and innocent face, now just held sorrow, hatred and anger. Her fine, black dress was replaced by a pale dress which had few stains on it. She looked so different, that I failed to recognize her. How could I not recognize the lady of my dreams?

"What happened to you? There is a huge difference between how you used to look earlier and how you look now."

She laughed sadly on her fate and then answered,"After your guards left me back in this kingdom......"

She told me everything what had happened to her. How Naagin falsely accused her. How they cut her hair, made her a slave, made her do all the work of the palace, everything. I couldn't see the tears forming on her eyes while saying this and took her for a hug. I didn't care what others must be thinking about me. All I cared about was her. She looked surprised at first, but then gave in and hugged me shedding all her tears.

After some time we broke the hug. Thankfully no one saw us as they were enjoying the party. I assured her that nothing will happen to her and I'm there for her whenever she needs me.

The party ended. It was time to go but I didn't want to leave her alone. I saw Naagin and my anger rose. I anyhow controlled my anger and after bidding bye to a drunk Reuben, I left.
